That is great news about Aliya! She is such a positive role model in the gymnastics world, I would love to see her compete again. i wouldn't put it past her to become a 3-time uneven bars Olympic champion....

I have caught up on some of the Russian Cup routines and the Russian team is actually looking pretty good! Melnikova and Eremina were both consistent and had good results which will boost their confidence heading into Worlds. I particularly enjoyed Melnikova on beam but they are both solid AA threats. And I hadn't seen Kharenkova in forever but she did a fabulous floor routine and looked a completely different gymnast - assured and confident. I hope she gets to go to Worlds although I don't think she was provisionally named to the team. But she looked in great shape.

This year's worlds are looking like they could be quite competitive, I'm disappointed there won't be a team event now!

Russia already named their Worlds team and Melnikova, Eremina, and Paeska are part of it although that could still change.  I think this year will be exciting to watch though it's hard to make any predictions - I think some of these girls should just go for it - it's only going to get more stressfull as we head towards Toyko!

I liked her as a gymnast, but ugh. I felt really bad for her after the 2000 vault fiasco, and in 2004 I thought she deserved the AA gold over Carly Patterson. But going after Simone for having ADHD  is just classless. And she got that info based off of stolen medical records!

Wow. What's up with Eastern European athletes attacking American athletes in their memoirs? Does it sell more books?

Maria Paseka was also a shitty sore loser last fall about Simone's medication (which is allowed, BTW, so they can STFU). And Komova accused the US team is using steroids after 2015 Worlds, to which some anonymous wag brilliantly replied "STEROIDS DON'T HELP YOU STAY ON THE BEAM, VIKA." She later apologized.

With it being the year after an Olympics, you might as well put in a new senior for the experience, especially with there being no team event, just individual events.

They really don't make the Worlds team that way. It's always who is ready now, not who might go sometime in the future. And the rumors on twitter were, Ashton had it together at camp and other didn't.

I believe it's the latest incarnation of the NBC Sports network.  It's a cable channel, plus you can watch online and via the NBC Sports app if your cable provider carries the network.

The Olympics Channel is offering CLASSIC OLYMPIC PERFORMANCES!!  Opening ceremonies going back to 1996 are being shown in the next couple of weeks as well as Olympic gymnastics!!!  They're showing SEOUL (1988), London and even some from 96 ...  I can't wait until they show the Winter Games too -- IF ONLY they could show Lillehammer, but they might not because those games were CBS...

Well, NBC sure doesn't appreciate it!!  When I went to sign up for the Olympic Channel on Spectrum in my town, I FOUND OUT THE LOCAL SPECTRUM TERRITORY DOESN'T OFFER IT!!  I'M SO UPSET...

Apparently, though, if you order HULU LIVE STREAMING, HULU carries that channel.

Spectrum (a/k/a TIME WARNER):  See, this is how you lose subscribers!!!    Pretty soon I will be PULLING THE PLUG.

I'm watching the 1992 Barcelona Gymnastics competition right now.  OMG.  Baby Kerri Strug, Shannon Miller, and Dominique Dawes.  Meanwhile, Svetlana Boginskaya is every bit as regal and beautiful as I remember.  Also, wow, they were sure picking on Kim Zmeskal, weren't they?  I just changed the channel while they were harshing on her.

I'm just glad we're out of the 1980s.

It's also fascinating to see how much harder the gymnastics are now.  Also, knowing what I know now, I have to admit, Bela creeps me out.

Totally gutted about Kohei. Sub 3 was a blood bath. Literally!

And will someone please please please turn up the arena light? I really don't want to see the ladies falling all over the place like the men. It's a gym meet not a disco.

I'm not feeling this setup for Worlds.  I thought the whole stage setup in Glasgow was a one time thing!  Too many injuries so far.  Based on how the USA ladies did in podium training I hope they got it out of their systems.  They are in the final subgroup so they will also have the added pressure of knowing what they need to score to make event finals.

I'm so sad for Kohei. So sad.  But he'll come back and be amazing again because Kohei does Kohei things.  It has to be a bit less exciting for whoever wins because there's no King to beat now...it's kind of like an asterisk needs to be put next to this years results that says *no Kohei.  If it can't be Kohei, I'll be so excited if Manrique can win. Oleg can have it too, but it would be so cool to see Manrique take the title.

And if you ignore Sam, the American men did really well so far. But Sam also does disappointingly Sam things. He's a great gymnast but he just cannot get his shit together when it counts internationally.

I'm looking forward to the women today, both for USA and NED.

****

Well mother f-ing hell! Iordache just hurt herself on the one-touch floor warm ups! Like carried off the floor hurt.  Why can't we nave nice things?

I want Manrique to win AA!  I'm routing for our men  but not surprised that Sam messed up again - just proof he shouldn't have been on the team!

I'm shocked by the low execution scores on beam.  Poor Lari!  I hope that this is the last of the injuries.

Me too. I'm not sure how Akash does on HB in general since he's more of an AA guy but all he had to do was not screw up to have had a better showing. Plus he's part of the future of the US men's team so I wish they would have sent him just to get experience at Worlds.

Well at least nobody was seriously maimed or injured tonight so that's a plus. I just can't get excited about the Chinese men's team, but they did solid clean gymnastics tonight when it counted...

I'm happy for Kenzo. He's a real boy now who is competitive AA and not just a freaky little tumbling machine, so that's nice to see. Especially to see him carry on the Japanese medal streak.

Oleg needs a nap. He just looks so tired. Which he probably is because he competes non stop. I so wanted him to do well. As much as I wanted Manrique to medal, he had a good day. I always forget about David and how much I like his gymnastics. His fall was gutting, just so sucky. Nikita too, I wouldn't have minded him medaling either

Yul had a great day. Top 10 finish his first time out is fantastic. He has a really bright future ahead of him.

Im much less excited for tomorrow night than I was for tonight.  The women's competition just seems so blah for the AA.

Love seeing Kenzo on the podium! He should be really proud of himself. Kinda think he should have gotten silver since Lin Chaopan was, once again, overscored on the vault... The Chinese men just don't thrill me. But, they didn't have any big screw ups or Deng Shudi feet, so good for them, I guess.

Oh David... I don't ever know what to say about him or whatever happened to Manrique and Nikita.

Yul and Nile did great even if their routines weren't hard enough to win. Especially happy for Nile after the year he's had.

I'm kind of over everyone going,  "Poor Oleg..." every time he misses at Worlds. If he and his federation can't figure out something better, that's always the way it's gong to end. Kohei or no Kohei.

And speaking of Kohei, The Japanese media had a picture of him in the stands and he looked like his eyes could burn a hole through whatever they were watching.

I'd love Mai Murakame to win the AA just to see Tumblr set itself on fire. That and I just don't like Ragan Smith's gymnastics.

*small voice* I'm also not a huge fan of Ragan's gymnastics. I think she is a lovely person, but someone on another site said she didn't have that "killer instinct" needed to be a great AA gymnast and that sums up my feelings about her. I can see her winning this Worlds like Bridget Sloan did back in 2009, but then never hearing from her again until NCAA.

We will probably get a WTF podium like we did with the men last night. Expect some combination of Ellie Black, Nina Derwael, Melanie, and Elena Eremina on top with none of the Americans medaling and Marta having a meltdown wherever she is currently residing.

I'm with you on Ragan. I have nothing against her as a person and she's a fine gymnast, but she just doesn't excite me. She's fine, she's functional, but she's just not...my favorite gymnast. This year is very reminiscent of 2009 so she'll probably win. And Kim will be ecstatic because one of her mini-mes will have finally done something big internationally.

I'd love Morgan Hurd to kick ass and medal. As a fellow glasses-wearing Morgan, I have a soft spot for her.  But if she does medal, then we'll be treated to more obnoxious Al Trautwig comments about how China will want to reclaim her. Nina would also be awesome to see medal, and I'd be cool with Melanie too if anything just  to see other flags flying during the medal ceremony rather than the usual cast of characters.

Ragan Smith injured in warm up and has withdrawn from the AA final.  The Romanian girl took her place. The amount of injuries in this meet is insane.

I...just...can't...anymore. I mean, didn't really want her to win but I wanted her to have the option! I wonder what the body count for Worlds is now?

Al isn't there this year.  John Roethlisberger is commenting instead.  He is at least a million percent better.

Ragan is on the way to the hospital.  I really don't like this at all.

Looks like Valeri knows what he's doing. Who would have seen Morgan Hurd saving Worlds! Some of the scores were a mess... I really hope Mai isn't stuck in fourth place forever.

Is it even worth watching EFs? Should we just call it a day now?

And Morgiboo saves the Worlds! Hopefully this will mark a turning point and event finals will all go amazingly (and by amazingly I mean that Jade will win vault, Tabea beam,  and Nina bars, the US men will medal on all their events and Epke will win high bars....what? I can dream, right?)

Good job Jade! As for Ashton I think she cracked under pressure but even if she hit I don't think she would have gotten the bronze. Will Jade and Morgan win medals tomorrow? Hard to say I really hope no one gets injured.

Gymnastics fans: Nothing could ever be as bad as Sydney 2000

2017 World: LOL

I'm loving all the blue leotards team USA has been sporting here. It's like they've been waiting for Martha to leave to bust them out.

So, Sam Mikulak. Does he have pictures and/or a video of US gymnastics officials having a big ass farm animal orgy? That's the only explanation I can come up with as to why he's still around.

I know everyone has been acting as though Reagan is the new chosen one, but I've never been a fan, she's not a bad gymnast by any means, I'm just not into her as a gymnast. I'm thrilled for Morgan, although I have to admit I was cheering for anyone to win except Ellie Black and her 1997 gymnastics. You tried yourself there, Montreal.

I've really been enjoying Tim, John R, and Nastia as commentators this week. Tim and Nastia seem much more relaxed without Al. And Nastia has really upped her game commentating on MAG. When she started you could tell she didn't know much but now she seems to have done her homework. I also enjoy John throwing little bits of snark at Tim for his stupid catch phrases. And none of them has said anything horribly obnoxious as far as I can remember so big plus!

I loved Yul getting a floor medal! He's just so pretty to watch. I hope he can up his D scores without sacrificing his form so he can really be at the top.

Paseka's form on vault is just so...so...ugh. Jade getting silver was awesome but I really wish she would have beat Paseka.
