Aly Raisman and Simone Biles are appearing in the SI Swimsuit Edition. Their pictures are gorgeous, but... I know they're both adults, so why do I feel like it's borderline child pornography? Maybe it's because female gymnasts tend to be petite, and many of them are under 18, so I think of all elite gymnasts as little girls.

Switerzerland: Eddy Yusof
Ukraine: Oleg Vernaiev
USA: Sam Mikulak
USA: Wildcard, to be determined

Many of the usual suspects returning, but a few new faces as well. Kinda wish someone other than Sam Mikulak was picked for the USA.

Wow, that is a great roster - looking forward to seeing Ellie Black, Eythora and Melanie De Jesus in particular. Will be a fabulous experience for Ragan too to become the leader of the US women's team in the absence of some of the more familiar faces, I'm interested to see how she performs. I don't follow MAG as closely but Oleg should be a lot of fun.

Simone, Aly and Madison were at the Golden Globes this week - http://www.usmagazine.com/stylish/news/golden-globes-simone-b-aly-r-and-madison-ks-hair-deets-w460094 They all looked great! And Madison started off her NCAA career by winning the AA at UCLA.

Laurie Hernandez will also be on Ellen on Thursday.

I've been watching college gymnastics. It's called Friday Night Heights. I noticed they're using the old scoring system. I also noticed how much more I enjoyed the routines. Toes were pointed and those balance beam spins were completed elegantly with few wobbles. It wasn't a series of flapping arms and wobbly spins and bent knees killing time between difficult tricks. I'd forgotten what a joy it is to see routines done so well, although I saw far too much of the stand-on-the-lower-bar-to-transition-to-the-higher-bar silliness.

Anyway, during the floor routines their teammates would stand on the sidelines doing the movements with them. It was really cute.

Not being from the US, it took me some time to work out what this whole college sport deal was, but I'm glad it provides an avenue for the hundreds of gymnasts who dedicate their lives to the sport but aren't able to quite achieve the elite/Olympic dream. I have only watched a few online videos of the meets but it seems quite high quality (although the bars routines are very quick!).

A couple of members of the final five are spreading their wings into acting - Laurie was invited to guest star on Law and Order (http://www.teenvogue.com/story/laurie-hernandez-guest-star-law-and-order-svu) and Gabby is guest starring on a Nickelodean show, Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn (never heard of it!) http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/gabby-douglas-guest-star-nickelodeons-nicky-ricky-dicky-dawn-963892

Laurie has such an expressive face and extroverted personality that I could see her moving into acting/presenting roles. And Gabby seems to be good around kids so maybe these types of roles will suit her. I'm still amazed that no make-up company has snapped her up to be their ambassador, she is very photogenic and has shown some really bold and funky choices with her lipsticks etc.

I also saw that President Obama has appointed Gabby as a member of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition - http://www.aol.com/article/news/2017/01/17/obama-appoints-gabby-douglas-kareem-abdul-jabaar-transgender-and-more-to-fill-jobs-before-trump-takes-office/21656994/

Along with her anti-bullying campaign, it's great to see Gabby giving back to the community with these types of positions/roles - she can be a great role model for kids!

How sad. And horrifying. That doctor should be strung up by his ankles and castrated. Or put in prison and live through all each and every atrocity he's put these girls through or has watched through his child porn collection.

And if the Karolyis knew about it and didn't report it? That's just as bad.

Not just that the Karolyis knew about it but that there was some unspoken agreement that the ranch would be a "safe place" for abuse to take place?  That there was a mutual understanding to turn a blind eye, but both parties knew what the other was doing?  Whoa.  WHOA.  The implications of that literally make me sick to my stomach.

When the girls go to train at the ranch, do the coaches also go?  Or are the girls basically just handed over?

I believe their personal coaches go, but I'm not sure how much direct control they have over their athlete once they are there (i.e. time with medical/training staff, nutrition, etc.).

Do elite gymnasts have to master all of these skills?

No. It's just a record of the skills being done in Elite competition and who is competing them. So if you want to see what skills make up someone's routine or if you want to see who is doing a particular skill, Spencer has put together a really fantastic resource for this.

I just watched those videos you posted HartofDixie - how horrifying. What an awful, sustained ordeal for those girls. And who knows how many more have been affected, as the lawyer said, this guy is a serial predator, and he was just given so much access to young, vulnerable girls who were in a high-stress environment. Sickening. Very brave of those girls to come forward and to now go public.

USAG's reaction to the 60 minutes interview so far has been.... fairly inadequate. Their tweets just completely miss the point. They put one tweet up quoting Tasha Schwikert who said she had always felt safe and looked after by USAG. What the hell?? How is that relevant or necessary to point out??

I'm curious if Tasha knew they were going to tweet out that quote right after the interview.

You would hope not. It's possible she provided the quote under a different context and they just chose to put it up yesterday. I think she is a lawyer though or was at least studying law so if that is what USAG have done, I hope she is straight on to them!

Vanessa Atler, Kristin Maloney and Dominque Moceanu are several gymnasts who have come out with supportive tweets for the women involved which is really nice to see.

Televised non-college gymnastics this weekend: American Cup on NBC on Sunday from 1-3pm (Reagan Smith & Riley McCusker are the US girls) and the Nastia Liukin Cup on Saturday from 7:30-10 p.m. on NBC Live Extra (which I assume is an online thing) or 11:30 p.m.-2 a.m.  on Universal Sports (for those of you who don't sleep or want to set your DVRs...)

That was all over tumblr last night! I was like what the hell, I leave tumblr for 24 hours and when I come back there's drama about Riley McCusker's wolf turns and Mihai has pulled up stakes for down under!

US Gymnastics is streaming the the American Cup here starting at Saturday 11:30 am EST. I think it's geoblocked in some countries.

It's not totally shocking Mihai is going to Australia. Valeri Liukin got the job he really wanted, so why stick around in the US.

Proud of Riley for finishing strong after those two disastrous sets. She really has lovely lines, hopefully she'll bounce back after this.

LOVE Riley's music!!! And Ragan's choreography is excellent! It's cutesy but still artistic, I feel.

Why the heck couldn't NBC show Amy Tinkler??? OLYMPIC MEDALIST Amy Tinkler? (Although I understand she didn't do floor but still...) Or Kim Bui who from what I heard had a great bars set? I know they have to show the guys as well but I don't think we say any routines the bronze medalist did (I missed the first 15 minutes so I may have missed something).

Men's World Cup from Stuttgart is on NBCSN at 11pm on Monday. Women were on tonight.

I have managed to catch up on a few of the women's routines. Apart from a mini-disaster on beam, Morgan Hurd did really well. I love her expression and performance on floor, and she is so flexible!! I'm also seriously impressed that she can execute all those routines while wearing glasses!

It was also nice to see Melkinova do well after a bit of a struggle at Russian nationals a couple of weeks ago. She looked much stronger and fitter.

Germany has some really strong gymnasts at the moment, will be interesting to see how they do at European Championships.

I love Morgan Hurd (and not just because we share a first name and both rock glasses ?). She's really growing up and seems like she's here to play in the big time. Even with beam, it was a great international senior debut. I love that she's so expressive and light on floor, but still a hell of a tumbler. I have high hopes for her in the future.

I'm appalled at how USA gymnastics is responding to this sex abuse scandal.  Blanket PR statements, probably issued by their crisis management firm they hired just for this.  I understand that they can't say too much due to pending litigation, but honestly....this approach is doing them no favors.  They basically look (are?) heartless.
