I have big news about the season finale. There will be a new ghost named Mary from Hetty's era. She will replace one of the ghosts. I got this information from Twitter. I hope it isn't Hetty she's my favorite character.

@Annber03 and I have been discussing the potential of what might happen during the season finale based on the title "The Heir" (the known title of the episode). Was Elias' stepping out on Hetty a well-known Woodstone family fact? Because I'm wondering - what if someone came around attempting to pass themselves off as a long-lost Woodstone descendant to claim their family stake in the B&B? And what if that person wanted to buy out Sam's portion and do something to the bed and breakfast that would endanger if not get rid of all the ghosts?

Would you grace us with a Hetty-centric Ghosts spoiler? –Olivia
I wouldn’t want you to boooo me, so here goes! Ghosts co-showrunner Joe Port shares with Inside Line, “Hetty, as you know, has been on a journey of self discovery this season. But in the last few episodes, it is the discovery of a shocking and long-held secret that Hetty is keeping that leads to one of her most enduring friendships being severely tested, perhaps beyond repair.”

“We ended [the current season] with a cliffhanger we can’t talk about yet. But we also, in the episode before the finale, we solve Alberta’s murder, which has been a season-long mystery that we’ve been [working on],” Wiseman said. “And all the characters have [these] ongoing storylines that we can touch on every now and then, you know? We have a huge cast, which is the strength of the show; we can go in so many different directions because everyone is just a home run hitter. But we also have a lot of characters to service. It’s so exciting to have different friends to play with and to have different dynamics. Each time you put sort of a different two or three people in a room, it brings out different sides to everybody. It’s like Sam has many facets, and she’s one person with Hetty, she’s one person with Nigel or somebody else. So, I just love that, and I think you get to see the textures really pop more and more throughout the season and hopefully into Season 3 as well.”

I really hate the idea of a feud between any of the ghosts the show works because the ghosts all get along, I don't want to see Sam playing peacemaker while trying to work.  I knew Stephanie would be mad when she found out about Trevor and Hetty. I hope Sam and Jay have their banking information safe so they don't become a victim to the Nigerian Prince scam. The internet wasn't used for scams while Trevor was alive.

I just had a thought of something that I wonder. Are ghosts with more unexpected deaths the ones that tend to choose to stay?  For example if you were to die from something that you were in pain in for a while like cancer, would you have the pain you were in when you died in your afterlife?

My understanding was that the ghosts don’t get to choose whether they stay or not. Apparently it’s the ones with unresolved issues who don’t get sucked off. So it would probably make sense that if you had a long term illness, you’d be more likely to be able to resolve things before the end. Like Sam’s great (or whatever) aunt, I suppose.

This interview with Danielle Pinnock is interesting.

It looks like Alberta's sister being the murderer might be a red-herring.

For my last question, because we're also heading up to the season finale, was there anything you'd love to tease for all the Ghosts fans out there?

What I would like to tease is that we will finally solve Alberta's murder, but the solving of the murder will be at the cost of a friendship. And that's all I will say. [Laughs] That's all I will say!

I bet this ties into the spoiler about Hetty keeping a secret that tests one of her long-standing friendships. Theory time: Hetty has known all along who poisoned Alberta but has kept it a secret. Why? Maybe it was one of Hetty's descendants who did it. One of her children or grandchildren.

The CBS press department is certainly in a playful mood about this, and while I don’t often share those sorts of communications, here’s what critics and reporters received in the aftermath:

Press friends, until our season three premiere, please keep in mind:

We will not confirm or deny any press reports on if/who might be leaving.

We WILL allow press to run misinformation.

Press and viewers will not be able to decipher any spoilers from our season 3 on-set photography.

So however they promote the next season, I wouldn’t try to solve anything by who you see and don’t see in the photos or on-air promos. I expect they’ll milk this as best they can, and I won’t share my druthers because I love this ensemble and would miss any of these ghosts almost equally.

When they do flashback scenes, it would be interesting to see other ghosts who were once there, but have since been sucked off… It could be an interesting way to have guest stars

I wonder if Rose McIver's pregnancy will be written into the show, Introducing babies to the main characters usually doesn't work, but it might be fun if the baby could see the ghosts and interact with them.

“I think one of the ghosts left! I have no idea [who left]!” Sam says after seeing a mysterious light shoot out of the couple’s home. “No one is here. I will check the library. The library is empty!”

This is funny because her line at the end of last season's finale was "sucked off" - not "left." But they dubbed it for the promo spot.

It might work.  After all, we know Hetty was aware of Thorfinn when she was little, so it could be canon that young children have the ability to see and interact with ghosts but then lose that as they get older.  I could see a scene in which Sam goes into labor very suddenly and unexpectedly with Jay somewhere else in the house or on the grounds out of earshot and the ghosts frantically trying to find a way to let him know.  And then after the baby's born they'd all become ghostly aunts and uncles.  Maybe Isaac and Nigel would be exasperated at first with the baby crying but end up wishing they had one of their own.  There are a lot of potential storylines.  The only thing that would bother me is that Jay then becomes even more isolated--even his own kid can see the ghosts yet he can't.  But I agree that introducing a baby might screw up whatever arcs the writers have already prepared. Instead, Rose McIver might be spending a lot of time sitting or standing behind tables so no one can see her condition.

In the episode where the contractor's kid saw Isaac (and thought he was a pirate), it was explained some kids do.

This show is not remotely ready to alter the dynamic by adding a baby, so I can't imagine them messing with that by writing a pregnancy they had no inkling of writing at this time just because the actor got pregnant, but if it runs long enough that makes sense, I'm sure they'd revisit the possibility, even with an infant -- every time Jay is alone with the baby and it seems to be looking at something that isn't there, he gets bummed he's going to be the only one in the family who never gets to see the ghosts.

More specifically (unable to get back to sleep for a while last night, I decided to start re-watching this in advance of the new season, and watched through this episode):  It's said to be "rare", but "occasionally" young kids can see ghosts.

So, yeah, I think if Sam and Jay ever have a baby (please not now!), everyone being on the lookout for any indication that kid is one of the few who can will be something running in the background.  I think it would be especially cute with the ghosts all wanting the baby to be able to see them, so doing things to try to capture its attention.

I think a baby that can see ghosts could be entertaining - for about half an episode.  If that long.

Maybe a small child that can talk to the ghosts might be more fun.  For a short while.  So a niece/nephew visiting?  -- doesn't address the pregnancy issue, though.

david could visit again.  He’s still young enough to see them.

Jay will have an opportunity to see a ghost in Ghosts season 3, per actor Asher Goodman.

The upcoming episodes will introduce new sets, flashbacks, and new characters.

Ghosts season 3 will continue to expand the visual world and explore the history of the plot of land.

…….

https://screenrant.com/ghosts-season-3-update-story-details-jay/

We have some fun things this year where he does have an opportunity to see a ghost. I'll give you one little teaser.

We have some new sets that we're introducing, so I think the visual world of the show is just going to get more and more rich. Our designer is incredible, and every time I walk into one of these rooms, an attic or a barn or whatever it is, I'm like, "How did someone make this?" Visually, the story is going to continue to expand. We're going to do some flashbacks and things you haven't seen before, introducing characters who are going to come by that you've never seen before. And I think we're going to keep playing with this core eight, seeing different pairings and relationships revealed.

There's a lot to mine because there are 1000 years of history on this little plot of land, and there are only 20 minutes in every episode to get to it. So, there's a lot coming down the pipeline.

Thank all that is rational and right:

“We’re not writing it in,” co-showrunner Joe Wiseman tells TV Insider. “Currently, Jay and Sam aren’t going to have kids.”
...

“We’re not writing it in,” Port echoes Wiseman about McIver’s real-life pregnancy, but he likes the idea of Sam and Jay becoming parents down the line. “That doesn’t mean they can’t have [a baby] in future seasons,” Port continues, noting that “introducing a little baby for everyone to get involved with isn’t something we wouldn’t do.”

“Yeah, we’re definitely open to it,” Wiseman chimes in. “It just felt a little early in the series to make such a big change.”

As an aside, shouldn't this thread be called "The Eyesaac Sees All" since that was the name of his contraption?

I think I speak for many of us when I say that, if this is true, I really really hope Pete's the ghost Jay gets to see, even if it's just for a few minutes.

But in tonight's episode, Jay's look and expression of relief when Sam told him Pete was still there was very touching.  He'd be devastated if Pete went away, even though he's never seen or heard him.  Which is why, as you say, he probably won't!
