My god, the overreaction. Mara IS being a total bitch, but jeez Sarah, just tell Clayton that maybe just maybe, her motives aren’t pure and enjoy what’s left of the evening. The waterworks are so unnecessary.

Plus, Clayyun is so ham-handed bringing it up. Why didn't he just "get serious" in the conversation and ask her directly if she could see them engaged at the end of this "process"? It's typical bachelor dinner conversation. Then, depending on her reaction, he could bring up her age or her doubts. Then as a third tack bring up the comment by another contestant.

I noticed sobbing Sarah said she would of course get engaged if she really wanted to, or something like that — her get-out-of-jail (engagement) card...

As for Croatia, Dubrovnik is on my bucket list — it is gorgeous. That said, no way did any of those women think "Croatia" when told they were going to the most romantic place.

I think Clayton totally misunderstood the “she’s an actress” comment.  I think she had an IMDB page or something when Shanae meant she thought G was putting on an act.  He kept asking “are you an actress?” like she would admit to a bunch of acting jobs instead of whatever job she previously claimed to have.

I really hate it when older contestants claim younger contestants aren't "ready for marriage." Who made her the marriage police? 23 isn't THAT young, she's not 17! I got married at 23. We're still married now, 38 years later.

I know. I call it the infantilising of young people.  Suddenly you are a kid and completely unable to make good decisions etc until you are almost thirty. It's ridiculous. And is usually espoused by people who say they waited to get married until their mid-thirties but get divorced anyway. I mean, I understand teenagers but mid twenties people are still saying this. People live up to what is expected of them and the age at which people are considered old enough to make decisions and handle their business keeps going up.

In the Bachelorverse, it usually represents older contestants who are jealous of the younger ones. Mara looks and acts ten years older than her stated 32. I think she thinks she is the only one old enough to be 'wife material'.

And can we talk about the term 'wife material'?  That whole 'wife' thing makes me cringe. I have no problem with the word itself but the way it's used in The Bachelor makes me think of June Cleaver, vacuuming with her high heels and string of pearls. It's just uncomfortable.

I can totally see why Clayton was going to pick Shanae over Genevieve. Genevieve was so long in the face and unpleasant from what we saw and Shenae was energetic and focused on Clayton, smiling and talking to him. Without knowing anything else about them I would've picked Shenae too. It's dating 101: when you meet a guy, be pleasant and engaging if you want to move forward into a relationship. I mean, if you just got mugged or your dog died or something then sure, show your real emotions. But don't bring your petty complaints and moods to a early date and be all sour faced and quiet if you don't want to be ghosted.  Genevieve was so checked out on that date.

BTW, Rainsong's recaps are 70% of why I watch this show any more. I am so happy when they get posted after the show. Thank you Rainsong.  🙂

I feel like the two on one is always an awful set up - by design. It’s always some laughable, unpleasant makeshift seating. This time it was cheap Walmart outdoor furniture in the middle of a grassy knoll surrounded by nothing particularly nice. It’s literally supposed to be awkward and weird because that’s what the whole date is. Two people who hate each other fighting it out over a not so great prize. The comedy of it is why I’m glad it’s back in all of its trashy glory.

The problem with this two on one though is that it was so boring (i realize that may be a redundant statement this season).  The two on one dates that work are where both of the contestants are into the situation.  Here it was just Shanae cackling in her usual manner and Genevieve wondering why she was putting herself through this.  And Clayton looking blank.

And where is Shanae left?  On a nifty boat cruise around the falls that will just bring her back to the limo.  Honestly, the only real emotion shown on the date (except for Shanae’s weird twitching after she lost) was by the women who weren’t on the date.  Even Shanae’s final “I hate you Clayton” had all the sincerity of “I’m going to Disneyland!” after the Superbowl.

Right, Genevieve was like the 3rd or 4th down on the list of Shanae's enemies. If they wanted to do a 2-1, the time to do it was when Elizabeth was still here. Even though Shanae mostly made that rivalry up too, at least Elizabeth was engaged in it. I think Genevieve's big crime was yelling at Shanae one time.

Also, when Genevieve was shaking her head in disbelief at the actress accusations, I really wanted her to just stand up and be like "nah, you and your weirdly sloping shoulders aren't even worthy of a response, I'm out." I knew she wouldn't give Shanae the satisfaction of getting to stay, but honestly, his completely misunderstanding of Shanae's accusations and his weird, stunted way of asking questions made him seem as dim as he is dull.

Mara is a bunny boiler in the making, she needs to sit back, enjoy the free travel and wait for the inevitable pre-hometowns axe to fall. If he's not trying to find time for you, you're not the one. You're lucky enough to be on a season where you're not trapped in the Covid Courtyard Inn for weeks on end, you're going to actual vacation spots, just roll with it as long as you can. But she's drawn such a bullseye now, she's probably going home without a rose ceremony.

Nah!  I don't want daughters with your short legs, underbite, IQ, worrisome neediness, AND your weirdly sloping shoulders.  Sons either!

She has probably considered herself "wife material" since age 15 and STILL WONDERS why it* hasn't happened for her.  As she ages, so does her criterion.

*For all we know, she's been widowed 3-4 times.  NOT HER FAULT!  Three of the times she wasn't even a suspect.

So sad that it's too late now.  Someone could have suggested that various women spread rumors about others:   She was Miss America!  She won six million dollars in a lottery!  She gave up two of her children.  Her eyes aren't brown.   Yes, she was a firefighter, but on a chain gang.

Clayton: "I'm so confused right now."

Me: "When are you not confused, Clayton?!?"

At least the producers finally let him get rid of Shanae. Not that I want to give her any credit, but I think she's right about Genevieve not being into Clayton. Genevieve looked disgusted when Clayton kissed her, though I can't blame her.

Hvar, Croatia, would not be my first choice of travel porn, but after multiple seasons confined to cheap resorts, it's a welcome change. The "medieval" date was terrible though. Why couldn't they do a scenic boat ride or something else pretty?

I feel like Mara has stuck around due to producer mandate, because they saw the cattiness between her and Sarah at the roast and wanted to exploit that. Clayton seemed much more attracted to Hunter, and even kissed her before sending her home. Mara is the only one he hasn't yet kissed (and never will, IMO).

Sarah may be young, but she's already Kylie-Jennered her lips and boobs. When the camera is on her, all I can do is think about what she would look like without the terrible fillers.

I really noticed her swollen lip in some of the close-ups. It looks like her top lip is too close to her nose. Why do women do this? For crying out loud. You’re 23 years old. At least wait until you’re older and you actually could benefit from cosmetic work.

I think they’re keeping Mara around because she’s the oldest one there. They’re milking that story. It’s clear she is too aggressive for Clayton. He’s not into her at all. As others noted, she does have a speech-style similar to Gloria from Sopranos. I didn’t realize she wasn’t Italian.

Who is the woman that said she’s falling in love with Clayton and he said he was excited about it? Was that Rachel? Is she the pilot? I can’t keep them straight.

Clayton’s height and build is the only thing remotely attractive about him IMO. His face, swirly hair and wimpy demeanor don’t do it for me at all. I’m longing for the old days of Brad. He was much more my speed!

My God, Mara is unbearable with the constant talk about being she's the only one there who is ready to be a wife.  She's delusional. I bet men run away from her after one date.

I love how she said that she's coming from a "place of care" and "concern." Girl, please. The sneering lip as you lecture Clayton says it all.   She is so unlikable!  Run, Clayton, run!

Could someone explain to me this concept of "my person". Do girls really think they are so super duper special that they actually believe that in this entire world, there is one person just for them??? All of the rest of us missed out on this, but they have that one special someone tucked away, just waiting for them to be found on ABC. Uh ok.

It is a bastardization of something from Grey’s Anatomy.  Meredith considered Christine her person.  That is, her closest friend, someone who she could confide in and rely on, no matter what.  There was no sexual or romantic connotation.

In a recent long shot of him from behind...maybe looking into a sunset...allowed us to see his "sloping shoulders" mentioned earlier and his odd build.

Like, like, like, uh…vulnerable, like.  Falling in love. I’m like in love with you. I’m in love with you, huh…like.  Like I’m in love with you. Like, like, like-like-like, like. Confused. Are you confused? Confused, like. Like vulnerable? This is like the happiest day of my like life.  Like I’m confused that I’m like so vulnerable. She’s like an actress?  Like I made a mistake.  I’m sorry I’m like confused. I'm in so like love.

My guess is either some of the women were threatening a walkout if Shanae stayed (leaving the show with insufficient women to fill out the remaining episodes), or the producers realized that her making it to hometowns would wreck the show: Future men and women would enter the show determined to lie their asses off and turn on the crocodile tears nonstop.  Catty gameplay has existed for longer than this franchise, but Shanae took it up to another level by outright LYING about her fellow contestants, then bragging to the cameras about it. The producers couldn't allow that behavior if they still wanted the show to have any credibility.

Or she's dating one of the producers.

I think it was the emergency contact. Meredith had to fill out medical info and realized she didn’t have “a person” to be her contact. So she asked Christina to be “her person”. Then they kept using it. And now we are being endlessly tortured with it on this show.

It was the other way around. Cristina was scheduling an abortion and she told Meredith that she put her down as her emergency contact person. Meredith didn't realize that Cristina considered her a close enough friend to trust her that way.

"The term was coined over a decade ago on “Grey’s Anatomy” — to describe the deep bond between best friends Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) and Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). The first time it’s uttered, they’re seated at Joe’s Bar when Cristina matter-of-factly tells Meredith that she put her name down as an emergency contact for an abortion she has scheduled. “The clinic has a policy. They wouldn’t let me confirm my appointment unless I designated an emergency contact person, someone to be there just in case and to help me home, you know, after. Anyway, I put your name down. That’s why I told you I’m pregnant. You’re my person,” Cristina says."

From this article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2018/12/04/youre-my-person-how-greys-anatomy-created-stand-in-soul-mate/

I always really liked the deeper meaning behind that phrase. Then the Bachelor franchise had to come along and ruin it.

Agreed, the concept behind the original phrase is meaningful, but now that it's been co-opted by these ding dongs and repeated on a loop, I can't stand hearing it.

Yeah, even taken on its own, it would be hard to believe that it was anything but a last ditch ploy to take out the competition, but especially in the context of the episode where Mara tries and tries and fails and fails to capture Clayton's attention, it was embarrassing to watch.

I felt the same about the girl who lectured Clayton on her way of the rose ceremony a few weeks ago. She was just mad that Shanae got to stay over her, she doesn't care who Clayton ends up and it looked foolish to try to sway the outcome after she'd already been eliminated.
