I REALLY need Terry to have her own podcast. I'm actually getting annoyed at myself for being so annoyed at her dominating the podcasts when she DOES have interesting things to say about costuming. If that makes any sense. Because, honestly, I would listen to podcasts of EVERYONE involved - but they need to be separate due to the wealth of information available. I'm greedy.

I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my podcast app because I have updated several times and still can't see episode 5's podcast. I have an iphone and use their podcast app to keep track of all my podcasts. I'm definitely subscribed to the Outlander podcast. I'm just really frustrated that it won't show up. So frustrated that I decided to register for an account just so I could ask the rest of you listeners for help and see if any of you are having the same problem! :) Love the show and love the podcast (although I agree Terry can take over sometimes to the detriment of things)

They seem to be really inconsistent about putting the episodes in the RSS feed. I use Downcast and I'll get the same episode more than once and then the new one won't come out until several days after it came out.

I actually sort of missed Terry this week.  I guess there wasn't really much she could have contributed since this is the same day as the last episode and most are wearing the same thing.  The only 'new' costume would be the general's and it's just all his extra pieces of flare.

I enjoyed this podcast. Found the editing detail, about changing the timing of Claire's "shamed" story to Jack listening vs. him drawing her, very interesting. There was a lot of interesting info -- and at least one literal cat fight! Terry's blog about the costumes was also good (enjoyed listening to the music she has embedded there). I still want both, separately.

Watching without sound, I thought Jamie looked rather giddy at the prospect of marriage -- much more than I'd realized before. And then he looks kind of dismayed when Claire stomps by without acknowleging him. Like, "I guess she's not so eager." These things register normally, but they really stand out without sound. (I get lulled listening to the accent; what can I say?) The whole cast is so great with facial expressions.

It's funny, Ron seems to be trying to carry the load for Terry in the podcast because he actually talks a fair bit about the costumes.  I also quite liked the information about the set because the color they painted that dining room was absolutely the perfect complement to the red-coats (especially these made-to-order-in-the-Ron-approved-shade-of-red-coats.)  I also heard or read somewhere this week (can't recall where) that the red coats are the only red in the show (with the special exception of Geillis' shoes).  I love that.  It's perfect.  Because you really do notice those coats as alien to the landscape.

I never heard Ron's podcasts for BSG. Did he ever have any of the actors join in? Just wondering if he does that, since they should be done shooting S1 by now or soon, so some of the cast might have some spare time to share their thoughts. That would be interesting.

Glaze Crazy, I listened to every single one of his podcasts for BSG and he quite often had both actors and fellow writers join him, as well as his wife. His cats and dogs would also chime in, just like in the latest podcast. There were even special podcasts that were round tables and not connected with any particular episode, so I am hoping that will happen in future.

In a way I was glad the podcast for 106 was done by Ron alone because I was really looking forward to hearing more about how they adapted the scene between BJR and Claire. Also, that scene felt so much like a play in its intensity and limited scenery. I was reminded a little of "Fly" from Breaking Bad in that that also had the feel of a play.

I liked hearing the details about the location for St. Ninian's spring and how they had to winch (?) the actors into that area to film. I am always amazed by the breathtaking cinematography and have to remind myself that Scotland is a naturally-occurring special effect.

I can't remember if he talked costumes in the first podcast before Terry joined him. I think so, though obviously in less depth than with her.  It was actually Terry's blog that mentioned the uniforms being the only red in the show!

Yeah, I was trying to picture Graham and Caitriona in costume being lifted in and out by some huge crane. But it sure was a pretty site. I love your description of Scotland.

I listened to a podcast with the man who is the Gaelic consultant for the show (very interesting), and one of the hosts mentioned how Scotland seems about ready to explode into greater global awareness (paraphrase) between the referendum vote (this Thursday!) and Outlander raising the profile. It was funny because I had the same thought just a day or so ago. At the least, they're certainly going to have a jump in tourism.

Regarding the podcasts, is RDM's wife in all of them after the first one? I'm on the third, and I'm sure she's a nice person and stellar at her job, but I'm already wearied of listening to her say the word "texture" over and over while gushing about the extras' costumes. I really enjoyed the first podcast where he got to talk about the directing and writing choices instead. Their marital habit of interrupting each other and then getting annoyed is also kind of awkward. No offense to people who just want to hear the costume stuff, of course.

I'm enjoying the podcast, MOSTLY. I loved the Breaking Bad official podcasts too, save for the exhausting level of back-slapping and Vince Gilligan's need to refer to everyone including the most insignificant extra as "wunnerful". But it was an endearing tic of his and I came to love him.

What I'm not sure I'm going to come to love about this podcast is the distracting sound of cancer sticks being lit and smoked. (frankly, it sounds more like he's smoking a joint and I'd be more accepting of that, so just fess up already RON.) It's just something that grosses me out AND I've got a personal bone to pick with tobacco, so YMMV.

Otherwise, I love insider info and showrunner commentary as a rule so I'll stick with it.

I don't know about the rest but for episode 6, she is blissfully absent. However there are a few cats having a knock down, drag out fight.

Thanks very much! Listened to six tonight, very much enjoyed it, especially since it was such a good episode. The cat brawl just sounded like home.

I'll skip through the others and see if any others are RDM-only. I think not, though, because he describes his wife as being in Scotland, so I assume he's explaining why she's not there for that week only.

Edit: tried episode 5 podcast, but it was only about four minutes before she said "texture" the first time (after hunting for her name in the credits as usual, so skipping). (No offense, Moores, love the show.)

Edit: oh, didn't realize there was a podcast thread, thanks for getting my stuff moved out of media. I see I wasn't the one one who likes hearing RDM being able to talk about writing and directing, not costuming. And one last snippy remark, I think the problem is RDM comes across as well spoken (meaning in the public-speaking way) and his wife does not. I can understand WHY she has tunnel-vision about the costuming, the problem is she's not aware of doing it or how it messes up the flow.

I found myself wondering what Terry would say about this episode. I liked the lingering look at the wedding dress and all the under layers Jamie had to get through. The word porn has been tossed around a lot this week but I do enjoy a bit of costume porn. Thank you Terry!

It is funny that this has sort of become the costume discussion thread.

I was listening to "the Scot and the Sassenach" podcast this morning -- NOT Ron's because he hasn't posted it yet, I think -- and the female half of the couple (Lani) mentioned that she heard that it's possible the second half of this 1st season will not be aired until April 2015! NOOOOO! (Every other time I've heard anything, it was said that it will probably return in late January 2015 or, at least, earlier in 2015 than April.) Ugh. Hope whoever she heard that new info from is absolutely wrong.

I just listened to the Ron-and-Terry podcast and I have to say, they were adorable.  Terry clearly belonged in this podcast because the costumes were so important to this episode and Ron makes a point of deferring to her at those moments but Ron also has really interesting things to say about the unusual story structure so it's a really good talk.  Then you find out Jamie's line about seeing Claire at the church and feeling as though sun came out when he saw her was actually an homage to something Ron said the first time he asked Terry out on a date.  And then Terry reveals that they are holding hands as they tell the story.  Aw.  Just adorable.

I also give them big props for finding something appropriate to say all through the nude scene  -- basically talking about how hard those are for the actors and how the whole crew does everything they can to make them comfortable at having to be naked in front of 20 people.  All around an excellent podcast.  And of course, any reason to watch the episode one more time . . .

I haven't heard anything about January from anyone other than people assuming that early 2015 meant January.

Season 1 of Black Sails premiered in January 2014, so i would assume that Season 2 would premiere January 2015 and Outlander would follow. There has been no official word on when Black Sails Season 2 airs, so it may just be about finishing production on the last couple of episodes of Outlander.

I was just going to post the same thing! I was wondering how they were going to handle commenting on that scene...and you could hear Claire's screams in the background...but they did a wonderful job, and I agree it was absolutely adorable.

I read Terry's blog where she shares lots of details on the costumes as well as fun Outlander illustrations and images that have provided inspiration, so her comments in this podcast were not a surprise. But she does give a few more details here. I also really liked how she reminded Ron that he had originally wanted to shoehorn some BJR into this episode, but he had thought that he had wanted to make the wedding over 2 episodes. But he later conceded that of course she was right :-).

They must constantly talk about the show at home (and Terry says as much in a blog post), but thank goodness it appears to be a labor of love. I am always so grateful they take the effort to do these podcasts, but I suppose Ron does it for the same reason he had done them for BSG: for the fans and also a way to explain the decisions made for each episode. Win win for all!

I appreciated the balanced talk between them. Terry talked more about the production in general (as she did in the last one she participated in) and Ron brought up costume elements. (I also liked the expression of romance and affection between them.)

Didn't Terry introduce Ron to the books? And that's why we have the show. Something to be grateful for. I actually like it better when they both do the podcast together. It would be nice too if they could get some of the actors to chime in future podcasts.

So it sounds like they latched onto dedicating a lot of episode 8 to Frank's search for Claire pretty early on in the writing process. I really wish that they would have backed off of it as they went on. I'm not against breaking Claire's point of view but there was just too much Frank in this episode.

I think that they did that to flesh out the situation more for the non-book readers. Readers are already hooked, but for someone who is only watching the show, it helps drive home the point that both of them are desperately trying to find each other and how sad it is that they can't. It makes for more compelling TV that way.

I also would have enjoyed more Claire and Jamie in this ep, but I totally understand why they went that way.

I don't feel like Frank's story was really fleshed out though. The only two substantial things we got from it is that Frank now knows the legend of the stones, and that he's really good at describing broaches... I mean he suspects that the mysterious man outside the window had something to do with Claire's disappearance. I really think they could have condensed his scenes to Frank at the police station, Frank going through Claire's suitcase, the story of the stones, and then Frank stopping at Craigh na Dun on his way out of dodge. The Frank/BJR parallel seemed unnecessary and the writing was on the wall with the lady trying to dupe him ("Come alone! Bring the reward money! Did I mention the money? You should bring it.") that the whole plot lost any suspense. The only scene where I felt like Frank was desperately trying to find Claire was at the stones, and that scene worked really well. The rest he just seemed mundane and bored and more annoyed than sad.

I liked the scene in the police station because it clarified for me what happened in 1945 when a woman disappeared without a trace.  I'm glad they showed how hard the police looked, how Claire's family (Frank) and friends (Rev. Wakefield) were absolutely consumed with trying to find her.  The scene with Mrs. Graham was essential since that's what got him to the stones for that important scene.  I suppose they could have skipped the plot to mug him but I thought that was interesting character development and given the presence of BJR in the episode I rather liked the Reverend's musing on the nature of evil.  Maybe we didn't absolutely need the scene where the Reverend speculates about Claire living in a cave or the one where Frank contemplates their wedding photo or the one where he leaves the suitcase behind but all three scenes "show" (rather than tell) us what Frank is dealing with and going through so that makes the climactic moment at the stones all the more powerful.

But I will confess that when I re-watch the episode I am eager to get back to 1743.  Seeing the Frank scenes once was enough whereas I crave re-watches of just about every Jamie-and-Claire scene.

Ron had to do this pod-cast solo and so one thing we didn't hear about was Hugh's fabulous costume.  It's one of Terry's favorites because since he was a secondary character the powers that be had fewer opinions about what he should wear so she could really let her imagination and her love of "texture" run wild.  There is a really good post about it on her blog if you are interested.

I just want to know about the suitcase.  That was a gorgeous suitcase.

I just listened to The Wedding podcast, and Terry got all indignant when Jamie removed Clare's lace necklace during the first disrobing scene. She said it wasn't supposed to come off, but she left before they started filming, so she wasn't there to stop it.  Well, I'm glad she left. I thought that was the most erotic part of that entire scene!

Jess, totally agree. I haven't listened to the podcasts (yet) so I suppose she may have had a reason having to do with historical accuracy or something, but in terms of good television, I'm glad he took it off. :)

Yeah, I liked it because it was the part where he first got to really touch her.

Yup!  My DH sighed audibly at that moment.  He thought the whole episode was wildly sexy and romantic with its attention to those little details.  The presentation of the pearls and the way Claire wraps the plaid up around Jamie really got him too.  He said he felt like he had accidentally walked into someone's bedroom and was seeing something real.  Cait and Sam play nuance verra verra weel.

I agree! Jamie delicately untying that ribbon and it skittering over Claire's breasts as it fell was just perfection. To me it really, really showed how--warrior though he is, acclimated to work and fighting as his hands are--Jamie can be gentle and controlled enough to attend to something as small and fragile as a neck ribbon. I don't believe I speak solely for myself here when I say that when we women see such evidence of care-taking from men, it can be quite the turn-on.

I liked the podcast for The Reckoning quite a bit. The info on how they filmed the rescue was interesting; the level of detail, especially in editing, never fails to amaze me (Should we show them underwater? How long should that last? Should we see them swim away?).

They also talked about how they flipped some scenes from how they were written. Originally, the political stuff and Colum giving the gold to Dougal was at the end of the episode. Ron switched it to have Jamie and Claire at the end, feeling that they're really the center and the true climax (yes, they said it) of the show. Good choice.

They mentioned several bits that were cut for time, including a conversation between Jamie and Murtagh in the kitchen at Leoch, where they talk about women and love, and Murtagh admits his feelings for Ellen. That one absolutely needs to be on the DVD extras.

--To the person in one of the episode threads who thought there must have been more to the conversation between Jamie and Colum, after "I meant no betrayal,"  that's correct. It was another scene they cut, and it went into more of Jamie's possible succession. Another I'd love to see.

Maybe the only part that I wish had been different was at the end. Ron got into talking about how he misses being on set more and in the writers' room more, sort of "boss syndrome" where you're not involved in the day-to-day stuff with co-workers anymore. I liked the sentiment -- more fun to do than to make decisions about doing -- but he and the writer went right to the end so that there was no mention about the ill wish and how they changed from the book there. Not a big thing, but I would have liked to hear something about it.

I haven't listened to the podcast for The Reckoning yet but in trying to figure out why the feed wasn't working in my podcatcher anymore, I discovered that they had made one podcast feed for Ron and a separate one for Terry on the costumes. The costume one only has podcasts for the first two episodes but hopefully that means we'll be back to hearing mostly about story and production in Ron's podcast.

I came to Outlander late (late Dec) and to the podcasts even later.  The latest one features Ron and episode writer Matt Roberts.  It was a great insight into the writing process..  I'm now going back to catch the season 1A podcasts.  Only got through episode 1 last night.  Looks like the next two may be a little frustrating.  But I'll force (haha!) myself to sit through them.
