Judging by the lack of comments everyone feels just as depressed and defeated as I do.  Didn’t laugh very hard last night.

There really wasn't anything new last night or anything particularly bad or good. Fawning interviews with no subject, decent panelists with some insightful and/or clever comments that never went anywhere because Bill refused to follow up or focus on anything and was just marking time until his next scripted bits. Scripted bits that were meh until New Rules which was decent with some good bits, undermined by some misfires and a giant hypocrisy at the core (Bill himself is the king of saying the left needs to fight dirty like the right and then either not having any ideas or actively clutching his pearls when someone fights back). It was pretty much a generic episode of the current iteration of Real Time except there wasn't any health and diet nonsense or Bill telling some Ann Coulter type they were very brave to come on. When nothing new is said it's hard to say much about it. Overtime was interesting and substantive as usual, but there was no standout viral "go fuck yourself" moment to drive discussion.

This week has been devastating for a number of reasons. When I was in school in the 90s, it was a common occurrence for everyone to yell “KOBE” as they attempted to make a shot 🗑. Shoutout to Eric Dyson for wearing the #24 jersey.

RIP Kobe and everyone else who perished that day.

I do think Bill made a good point that perhaps Bernie has the best chance to defeat Trump because his supporters are just as hardcore, willing to play dirty, etc. as Trump’s. I also agree with him that that’s what it’s going to take (playing dirty vs.”going high”) for Dems to defeat Trump. Being civil hasn’t gotten them anywhere against this administration.

Michael Eric Dyson was annoying, as usual. His heart’s generally in the right place, but his delivery just irritates the beJesus outta me.

Totally agree with both comments, especially about Dyson.

Watched the Buttigieg interview--and enjoyed it, liked him, made me want him to be president--but couldn't bear to watch anything after that.

I find him to be generic and dull.  I would say more about him but it would be off-topic.  He was smart not to fall into Bill's trap about Black voters.  It seemed like a gotcha moment and I found it weird that Bill would do that to him.

I think it is because he speaks like a preacher and it can be too much at times. There is a time and a place for everything.

And it takes him 3-5 times longer than the average person to make his point.  Every time he is on, Bill waits twice as long before interjecting something, and then Dyson demands more time to make his point in 3X the necessary time, if anyone is still listening.  He likes to hear himself talk.

Apparently, only white men watch the Super Bowl. It's crazy for someone to advertise during the most watched (by miles) TV show of the year.  <rolleyes>

Read that it was softball interview.

Buttigieg would make a great president. But I wish he'd be a little less milquetoast.  His demeanor is a little reminiscent of Dukakis. Bill's final question to him about what he'd do if he won and Trump wouldn't leave office just screamed for a better answer than he gave. He could say something like he believes the military would be on his side and they would escort trump out, and hopefully they could remove him with no harm to him.

Folks: A reminder that your political commentary should be limited to what was discussed on this show. Do not speculate how Bill would feel about something if those feelings weren't articulated during the course of the episode. Also, name calling, pot shots, and any other derogatory sentiments expressed towards any politicians supporters are expressly against the rules. They're pinned at the top of the forum. Please review them, or PM me, if you have questions.

Oh my god the guy is beyond annoying!  How can anyone stand him?  He’s hopped up on something, and I seriously was getting anxious watching him.

Also f him for saying American Dirt shouldn’t be read because it’s crappy??? Like he’s a critic.  He’s a blowhard, trying to sound intelligent but he’s not, he’s an idiot.

Didn't mind him putting down that author but on OT, he was talking about how Obama talked down to some graduating students at a black college, which he didn't do with students with a large number of white students.

Bill seemed to me like he strongly disagreed with Dyson on several things, but he was biting his tongue more than usual for particular reasons. Dyson is very "woke" and kind of sees race as behind everything. Bill sort of thinks "woke" has gone overboard, but I think Bill thinks his own is a point of view where one is only allowed to go so far.
