Culture Check: How can we discuss a character's or actor's appearance without objectifying them? How can we express likes or dislikes and still respect an individual's humanity or be mindful that a character represents a person someone else might relate to or identify with?

I know it's unpopular here, but I think James is a cute little handful, and exactly the kid Maxie would have.  If I'd been seeing him for his fracture, I would have stepped out of the room for a moment to laugh, and then gone in and been appropriately sympathetic with the parent.  This kid is going places, if he makes it to adulthood.

I guess it wasn't surprising that Lulu chose Carly to talk to.  She knows Carly was given to adoption by her bio mom, and might be able to share that perspective on it.

Tracy. She could certainly have developed a relationship with Gio without having a blowup with Sonny, but considering Sonny will eventually come to be recognized as Gio's grandfather, maybe it's part of some elaborate set up.  Regardless, I like to see that relationship developing, and wish she was also working on one with each of the other kids in the house.  They don't need to have her play the bad guy to make her interesting; JE has that covered.

I forgot that Drew is Oscar's father.  Obviously the change in actors doesn't help, but it's more the change in Drew's personality.

Overall, I feel like something has happened with the show.  They seem to know which stories they want to tell now, and they're moving them forward with a momentum that has been missing for a long time.  I'm not a fan of all of these stories, but I appreciate the progress.  I hope they will become adept at integrating depth into the characters and conversations as well.

NuNuLulu is in danger of becoming a Carly.

I was impressed with Amanda Sutton today as well, and I'm usually not a big fan.  Even Lulu was put off her diatribe for a second or two when Brook Lynn reacted to learning she'd given birth to a boy.  The confrontation should never have taken place, though.  Lulu seems to be advice-proof, begging the question of why she bothers asking for it.

I don't know what to make of Sonny supposedly having been involved with Gio's childhood, and it may be because I wasn't really watching much in those days.  If Sonny was involved, why?  He would have had to travel from PC to Brooklyn to attend Gio's events, and I'm not sure why he would do that.  Did he have a special relationship with Gio's adoptive parents?  Did Lois just get him involved when she took Gio in, without telling Sonny that Gio was his grandson?  Did Sonny even realize that Dante existed at that point?  I thought he was surprised by that fact when he shot Dante.  Do I have that wrong?  I'm confused.  Obviously.

You raise some good questions. And I haven’t been following Gio’s backstory well enough to work out the timeline. Gio would have been 6-8 when Dante was revealed to be Sonny’s son (I think.) So potentially Lois felt compelled to include Sonny in Gio’s life around that time since he missed out on being a father to Dante. Or maybe Lois knew all the baby daddy secrets and knew Dante was Sonny’s long before it was revealed in Port Charles.

Dante came to Port Charles in 2009, so Sonny didn't know until 2009 or 2010 that Dante was his son. But he said today that he could never refuse Lois, and since he spent a lot of time at their house growing up, he could feel that he owed the family. We've been told before that Lois and Olivia were good friends growing up, so it's possible Lois has known all along who the father of Olivia's baby was. That could explain why she couldn't answer Ned when he asked her why she suddenly wasn't doing her due diligence.

Of course, you know, we're putting more effort into unravelling this than the folks working on the show . . .

Then Lois sucks, so thanks for ruining another character, show! Seriously, why would Sonny be so involved with one of the "old neighborhood" friends' kid. He didn't even seem as involved with Spencer growing up, and that was his known nephew who lived off and on in Port Charles. It isn't like his own life wasn't eventual as it is. Lord knows we haven't gotten much of break from the character since, well, since MB struck out in primetime . This storyline sucks and I pity everyone involved, including Maurice Bernard. If they wanted the actor to be on the show so badly, why not bring him on as Alec, Brenda Barrett's son? It would be around the right amount of years to be SORASed to and Ned & Lois were pretty close to Brenda.

No surprise, Carly blames Robin for wrecking their lives by revealing the secret of Michael's paternity and not herself for the secret in the first place. And Lulu, who spent time growing up in the Quartermaine house, shouldn't accept so blithely how horrible it would have been for Michael to be AJ's son.

Well, it is in keeping with Carly's malignant narcissism, of course she still blames Robin, and even blames her for Carly's narcissistic abuse of AJ. The big difference between Robin and Lulu is that Robin figured it out on her own and kept the secret because of Jason. Lulu went riffling through someone else's private files.

Tracy, Gio's unwitting great grandmother, confronting Sonny, his unwitting grandfather. I don't know whether to be impressed or throw up..

Throw up. It is so heavy handed.

So since Michael didn't call Sonny, will be be angry when he returns and rightfully join team Tracy?

Does Lulu spend any time with Rocco?

She shut Brooklyn up fast. Brooklyn doesn't get she and Lulu are not the same the issue is not the truth it's all the lies. Dylan knew, everyone knew.

Ooh a Brenda and a wire mention!

Lois and her Sonny worship is disgusting as she lives and mooches off the Quartermaines. Go live with Sonny since he's so great, oh wait his apartment blew up. Then she'll storm in to yell at Tracy and then Ned. Why should anyone in that house worship Sonny who murdered a family member?

Kick her out.

So new WSB guy is Dex 2.0?

SpyGirl's WSB handler is hot; something I didn't think Dex was.

Gio's mom died when he was 10 or 12. At the time, Rocco was already born and everyone knew that Dante was Sonny's son. Lois made a choice to introduce Gio around this time knowing that Sonny was Gio's grandfather. As Gio was orphaned at a young age and was be raised by various Cerullos family members, Lois should have BLQ that Gio was her child.

Lulu? Fuck Off. Zero sympathy for a young teen mother. And it almost 20 years since it happened. Maybe Dante's son (which is just below my daughter in importance) would not want to know that he was adopted/know who his birth parents are.

Fully agree about Amanda Sutton, she was terrific today.  Up till now, I've been less than interested in her and her relationship with her Topo Gigio of a husband.  But anyone who can shut up Lulu deserves some respect.

If anyone needs a return to ComaLand, it's her.

Joss's handler has good hair but that's about it.  Maybe it's my age but I'm less than impressed with world-weary and cynical 20-somethings.  Call me in 40 years when you can't get through the night without getting up to pee a couple of times and then we'll talk.

He and Joss promise to make a perfectly dreadful couple.

How many times is Dante going to have to go reassure Daddy Dimmest that he loves and reveres the man who shot him in the chest?  If the Quartermaines served no other purpose than to remind Port Charles that Sonny is actually a ***, they'd have served their purpose.  Nice to hear Ned chime in on that theme today.

The casting department really thought outside the box for Joss’s new love interest. Instead of a white, medium height and short hair actor they went with a white, medium height and long hair actor. Why didn’t they just let Evan Hofer grow his hair out? They must have gone through thousands (one) headshot to find the new actor. Wait! Do the soaps still use b/w headshots? A lost art.

Sidwell looked appropriately WTF when Alexis went over the background of the knife.

Lulu attacking Brook Lynn over her teen pregnancy decisions (no matter how short-sighted and stupid this storyline is) is not a good look at all.  She should have been smacked back into a coma.

Shut up Lois, Sonny doesn't need you as a guard dog and if you're going to be mad Tracy for speaking the truth then maybe find a new place to live.  I hear Bensonhurst is nice this time of year.

No one answers the door in a sheet mask even if they just think it's a delivery driver.

"I'm not like other rich girls!" Shut up Joss.

I was yelling at Alexis not to touch that dagger and she of course, did.

Either Sidwell is trying to prove he’s a long lost Cassadine, or he’ll attempt to frame her for a murder (attempted murder if it’s Sonny, as we all know he won’t die).

Speaking of Sonny not dying, didn’t Bigoted Natalia arrange medical help for him in California? Why is he still clutching himself and more importantly, *not* dying?

I’m watching in real time, shifting from GH to Beyond the Gates but ABC and CBS have the same commercial break times and I often wind up doing something else…

Other than it being a heavy-handed way to advance a plot, I'll never understand why Alexis held the knife. She should have taken the knife, in the case, with her and dumped It in the harbor again on her boat ride home. Did Sidwell have a backup plan if she had taken it?

Sonny and his California doctor agreed that he could wait a while for his life-saving procedure, giving him time to deal with matters in Port Charles. He probably won't have any problem until the next sweeps period.

She's been a Carly since the JMB days.

She wants someone to tell her she's right, that's all. When she doesn't get that, she goes ahead anyway, because she knows all.

I disagree. I've answered the door with a mask—I'm not going to waste it just because it might be a bit embarrassing to be seen looking like a serial killer.

I totally agree with this, and it can never be said enough.

I wonder if the show is still trying to decide if they should ease Sonny out of mob life, so we're getting this dumb plot-point time line.

I read somewhere the knife would be used to stab Drew. God willing. Seriously though. I think a knife used even on Drew would be a little much. I think the actor playing Sidwell is great but I don’t think he’s needed. I’m still trying to get used to Jack Brennan being all sorts of creepy spy guy. Charles Mesure was charming and always had a twinkle in his eyes. He was so good. Why can’t we have nice things?!
