  1. Finally got around to writing about why I watch TAR. I'm hoping fans of the Racers read it and get hooked on the show. ETA: CBS's big three realty shows to get involved with primetime The Price Is Right. ETA2: The Dogs 101 episode with Guido airs on Animal Planet on Saturday at 11 a.m.
  2. Quite a week for superhero shows. Supergirl got to channel Alan Moore. The Flash went back to its comic canon roots with a jaunt to Earth-2. And Legends of Tomorrow .. . recycles Firestorm stories from the Eighties. At least we're spared Vandal Savage this week. Wait . . .since when is Kendra housing a demigoddess? I thought whatsherface was a priestess. It would make sense to have Kendra to go unhinged over time without Carter to help her. Seems like a lazy way to have the two female regulars bond. Speaking of Sara . . . like I said on last night's episode thread for Arrow, Rip should dump half his team and pick up Nyssa, since she has spare time now. Fun to see Cold get his seduction on. It's a funnier visual if you imagine Ray hiding, tearfully wanking as his dreams of being a suave secret agent go down the drain. Poor Eagle Scout. Here's hoping the Time Lor- . .. oops .. . Time Masters drama has a purpose. On the bright side, Mick's heat gun actually causes stuff to catch fire.
  3. Anybody else watching? Three takeaways from this week's episode, as Team Ronin advances: 1. Karson Voiles and Karsonic Boom are so boring, two of their runs were relegated to "While We Were Away" status, including Karson winning another anchor leg to force sudden death. 2. Tiana Webberly of Team Ronin becomes the fifth woman to scale the Warped Wall during competition. 3. TNW really does not work well for Lance Pekus. The Wild Bunch got swept in both of their matches.
  4. Jenna was brought in midseason of Ex-Plosion as Jay's ex. I don't consider her a full-fledged cast member. Same with Camila coming from Spring Break Challenge. Idle thought: who would you want to see competing on this season from True Blood? Off the top of my head, I got Sookie & Jason and Tara & Lafayette. ETA: From Brianna's Twitter: "There was a 5th checkpoint! We had to do ANOTHER LOOP and then race up like 1648262528591647 million flights of stairs "
  5. Funko to produce four One Piece vinyl dolls. We got Luffy, Chopper, Ace and Law. I think stylish headgear put them over the top.
  6. AVClub collects seven new trailers. Stuff gets repeated, but there's choice stuff . . . like Lana kicking a naked Archer in the balls, and Pam doing something horrible to a burrito.
  7. For anybody who wants to know about Deadpool, The AVClub has a brief history. I'd dive into the comments, but I don't want to go into a flame war defending Gail Simone's run on the book.
  8. Brutal final mission, as usual. Kept flashing back to Luke getting his bladder filled in TAR18 watching Cara Maria handle beer after beer. She does have a point about things coming down to "janky carnival games." Anybody else expect Jenna & Brianna to falter at the puzzle? They should have been awarded with a free kick to Johnny's nuts. I'm not certain that they should win . . . .they would be the first team not to have been initially cast on The Real World or The Challenge. Next week should be fun. A tiny part of me wants all three teams to drop out so Aneesa can finally get a win. Or would the prize money be rolled over into the next season?
  9. The big question: How the fuck can Frank exist? He lives in a fog of senility and drugs. If the Gang knew -- or cared -- how messed up in the head he is, they'd probably have him carted off, because the intervention didn't take. Yet he manages to dodge death and save the day for his crew. Anybody else expect "nightcrawlers" to be ickier? Sure, it's something done by two grown men in the dark, but I was expecting something messier. At least Frank has Charlie in his life.
  10. Before I forget . .. why the hell does anybody live in Star City? My thoughts on the fracas basically boiled down to, "Assassin war in the streets? Must be Wednesday!" Oh, and hello, Quentin. Keep forgetting he exists. That bodes well for him not being in the grave.
  11. Anybody else think Nyssa disbanding the League is a bad idea? I don't think all of them are just going to take a retirement package. They'll wind up getting assembled by the S5 Big Bad. On the up side, Rip Hunter can dump half of his "Legends" and pick up Nyssa to run wild with Sara. Vandal Savage wouldn't be a problem anymore. I gotta admit, Barrowman can bring the drama. Too bad Malcolm is such an asswipe. Anybody else hoping that the dismembered hand goes to David Tennant? I can't see Noah/Calculator being foiled so easily. He'll be back. Felicity did the right thing, though. Anybody else have to remember that Oliver is running for mayor? He has so much on his plate, I can't see how he can make room. Boring flashbacks are boring. Still wondering if Oliver can grow the crazy beard and hair in S5.
  12. I keep getting trade paperbacks and graphic novels from the library. I've read the first four volumes of The New Teen Titans from Marv Wolfman and George Perez. Nice energy for early Eighties storytelling. I also got the third NTT omnibus, currently paused before the wedding of Donna Troy and Terry Long . . . which seems squicky in retrospect.
  13. It can be so much worse. Two words: Laurel Lance. Jay will never be as lame as the Whack Canary. And yeah, I thought of Fringe. I think the transition cues between worlds should have been adapted by the show.
  14. That was . . . unique. Kinda reminds me of the season openers of The Real World and Road Rules back in the day, where we'd see cast members say goodbye to their families before trekking off.
  15. "I've been impaled . . . like Cordelia . . . bugger." Good caper episode. I'd like to see Jarvis cook a soufflé. Fun to see Peggy dummy up for Ray Wise, then proceed to neuralize the ever-loving shit out of him. And Whitney shows her husband who wears the pants in their relationship. Also, Rose gets to shine. Good for her.
  16. Can somebody identify all of the images in the portal? All I could see was Supergirl and Jonah Hex. Trini . .. back in the day, the Justice League would meet the Justice Society of Earth-2 once a year. They're collected in trade paperbacks . . . I like to think the stories have held up well.
  17. Good episode. And now I want a musical episode. I knew that Grant Gustin was on Glee, but I didn't know Jesse L. Martin had pipes. Pity Joe-2 is dead. And Deathstorm. And Reverb. They do not mess around in Earth-2, do they? Nice that (an) Iris is in the center of the story for once. Fun to have Iris-2 smooching with Barry-1 . . . Barry would have killed for that action a year ago. Don't know what happened to Barry-2, though. I keep imagining Harry and Cisco taking turns clocking him in the head with a frying pan. I'll give Teddy Sears this . . . he cuts a rather imposing heroic figure. Too bad Jay still has speed death impotence issues. At least he makes the helmet work. Hi, Supergirl! See you soon! Watching Barry and Winn getting their respective geeks on should be fun to watch.
  18. I have a sighting to report . . . I think. I was watching the debut of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, and I could have sworn that I saw Julie from NOLA at the opening "press conference." Judge for yourself . . . if I'm right, she's the one behind the laptop. I'm a little iffy, because I haven't seen her since Gauntlet 2.
  19. I did a search for "Toonami, February 27." The first result was from the Adult Swim forum, suggesting that Psycho Pass fill the 12:30 slot. When I clicked the link, the post had been taken down.
  20. Before I forget to ask . .. has there been any sign of an epilogue on Facebook? Or was that a one-time thing?
  21. Anybody else see the premiere? It was broadcast on lots of Turner cable stations . . . even Cartoon Network. I thought Sam did a good job, and that she's a worthy successor to her old boss. As a bonus, TBS will run it right before The Daily Show, so there are no DVR complications. Who was narrating the Jeb Bush segment? I would have guessed Werner Herzog, but the guy was openly swearing. Anybody else feel bad for Jeb? I keep flashing back to the SNL takes of debates, where Trump mocks "Jebra."
  22. John Seavey encourages optimism for the upcoming season.
  23. I'm aiming to see it on Friday, because I don't have much of a life. I'm hoping this wouldn't be another blow to Ryan Reynolds' career like Green Lantern. Also, writer Joe Kelly is going to be doing a signing on Wednesday at one of the shops I frequent, and I'm going to get the latest issue of Spider-Man/Deadpool autographed. ETA: For anybody new to the character of Deadpool, I would suggest reading the stories that Kelly wrote. He had a 33-issue run, not counting various specials. I think he was the guy who created Ajax and Blind Al (as a sarcastic lookalike of May Parker).
  24. That was a good episode. It pales to "For The Man Who Has Everything" from Justice League Unlimited (featuring Thomas Wayne beating the ever-loving crap out of Joe Chill and Batman widely smiling), and it doesn't measure up to the original Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons story (why weren't they credited?), but it was decent nonetheless. And we lost a major player . . . I kept expecting Astra's death to be written off as the Black Mercy dream of Kara or somebody else. Why else would we be left with Non as the new main villain? He's about as charismatic as Vandal Savage on Legends of Tomorrow. And "K'ara" dealing with Cat was a little funny. Not laugh-out-loud, but it was an acceptable amount of cringeworthy. Seriously . . . seek out the original story if you've never read it before. Nice take on Krypton and an embittered Jor-El, an epic fight between Superman and Mongul, and freakin' Jason Todd saves the day. Definitely one of the best Superman stories ever presented.
