  1. Hmmmm, well as long as they still use that wonderful striped dress Myrna Loy wears in the Christmas party scene. *************** As an earlier poster said about those early Norma Sheara filsm. Really, really early, like her first talkies of 1929 and 30. So many of the characters have that melodramatic tremble in their voices. "Oooo, I can not stand to see you marry that man.ooooooo" But by 1932, a more naturalistic style is already the norm. Being Veterans Day, Im surprised that TCM isnt showing military-themed movies.
  2. Christ Almighty...five minutes of Project Runway, ten minutes of PJ Jr. commercials. I finally turned it all off.
  3. Oh Alison, I know you were desperate to get hold of Noah, but what were you thinking trekking all the way into the city. And isnt she legally obligated to stay away from his children? Or was that just the advice Noahs lawyer gave him?
  4. I missed the reason why the book-keeper is being forced to cook the books. I like the flawed characters. More interesting than just a bunch of stiff-upper-lips. Though I wish it wasnt always so damn dark in everyones houses.
  5. Unfortunately, abusers can be very charming in the beginning. Is Bob too old to be called up?
  6. Merline's outfit looks like it was woven together by a giant spider.
  7. hell, the Monkees did a similar plot involving Davy's grandfather 40+ years ago - Its a sit-com plot classic. I remember seeing the same thing on the old Addams Family tv show. Gomez and Morticia pretend ed to be servants to impress Lurch's mother.
  8. Wheres the thread for last nights episode, #5?
  9. Aw, poor Joe. Lamenting that if only the mean media would stop inconveniently reporting on the crazy things trump says everything would be okay. "They're just feeding into him, hes hurting the Republican party!" No Joe, whats hurting the party is the realization that Trump is speaking for large portion of it. Why else would he be the front-runner ITrying to ignore his statements is not going to make him go away. If this man wants to be taken seriously as a candidate, don't you think the people hes seeking their vote desreve to know how what the thinks?
  10. Just curious. She got kicked out for fighting. Now was that something physical, or just verbal sparring. Cause when you have a bunch of addicts, all strangers to each other, detoxing , stressed and thrown together. Gosh, who could expect there'd be any confict!?
  11. So, looks like that weird couple are only smugglers. I thought this story line was going to deteriorate into some kind of "The Most Dangerous Game."
  12. Caught some of the Blank documentaries last night. 'Garlic Is As Good As Ten Mothers 1980' (also on youtube) The one on Polka Clubs was a hoot. Also from 1980; Ive never seen so much Farrah Fawcett hair in my life.
  13. Really. No offense to Jeff, but this guy came off less than 'not feeling his feelings' than just having gone thru a lobotomy. Or the latest victim of the Body Snatchers.
  14. Ive missed the last couple of episodes. What the heck is the "Blighty Ticket" and what's its signifigance?
  15. Really. Way tired of all this Blithe Spirit stuff. ******* I dont think Gillian was flirting with Cheese Guy. She looked more appalled that she was going to be working at the same place with this old one or two night stand; whos obviously interested in starting things up...
  16. Ugh, why does my mind always go to the grusome-est conclusion? In the scene with the fire on the beach, I assumed Ross was burning Jims amputated arm. *************** In the midst of all their grief and anger at Jim's death; I did get a kick out of Demelza's shy 'May I take a look at it...' at her new dress.
  17. Gaah, how I hate these shows. Realtors ruining yet another neighborhood. ;Up-and-coming; jsut translates to Were gonna end up turning this area into another uninhabited place.
  18. Hey, did you know that Joe talks to people. ;-) Oh, and as usual, whatever the topic, the only that matters is how it affects Joe. In the story about the growth of Uber cars on the street, the important thing is that Joe likes the app for him and his kids. No mention of the point that Deblasio had about unregulated growth clogging the already packed NY streets.
  19. Stumbled on this show and i really want to like it. Fan of both Aasif Mandvi and Jack Black. But Black feels like hes trying to channel Bill Murray from Ghostbusters and its really not working.
  20. Regarding Gillians firs husband. If memory serves, I dont think she actually murdered him. Didnt she find him critically wounded in the barn and waited to call 911 untill it was too late...
  21. Clothing wasnt the throwaway items that they are today. Well made clothing would last for decades, was valuable and was frequently listed in someones will.
  22. Not nit-picky but a personal observation, when Ross's uncle said the phrase 'bite the dust.' my first thought 'thought that was an American expression, more from cowboy and western movies.' But looking it up I see it goes all the way back to 1750. *************** Poor Francis. That scene where he tries to have some face time with his mine workers was just painful. *************** Is it just cause they were the old servants of his father? Otherwise, can't see why Ross would still be employing the pretty useless Jud and Prudy.
  23. As somebody earlier said...Don't the banns have to be read from the pulpit three Sundays in a row? I mean this is 19c Cornwall, not Las Vegas. You can't just show up in front of a minister and say' we wanna get hitched.' You could run off to Gretna Green or get a special license from the Archbishop of Canterbury, but I doubt Poldark swung that. But maybe that will contribute to the scandal, Ross and Demelza getting married without the proper procedure.
  24. Plus Odi has all the big and small memories of George's family- it might not be the same trying to upload it into a new model. Isn't it amazing that Issac Azimov's three laws of robotics have so completely become the law of the land of Sci-Fi literature? Sure, writers can struggle to find ways to turn their robotic creations into Frankensteins, but the assumption is the laws are a given. Course , Azimov, at least in his classic books, made it clear that there was no way to circumvent them; they are so fused in their positronic brains that any attempt would make the robot useless.
  25. The abrupt change in Grace this season just made her seem so insincere, in the first few episodes she had something up her sleeve, like spying on Jackie for her father. Everytime she spoke or made nice with Jackie it just didn't seem believable.
