  1. I'm kind of raising an eyebrow at certain aspects of the last Entertainment Tonight report listing out confirmed or in talks celebs. Beverley Mitchell's name first came up among fans when her Wiki bio happened to fit the clues about Artem's partner; did the show coincidentally bring in (or come close to bringing in) two actresses who had their first screen credits at age 9, recorded country albums, and had work published? Because I can buy Maureen McCormick as being accurate, that seems like an expected show choice. But if the Emma Samms info is truly wrong, then I'm not sure why the "source" couldn't have screwed up with others, too. With the caveat that I hated Seventh Heaven and Lucy Camden so I'd prefer her portrayer not turn up here (I'm sure she's a lovely person in real life).
  2. I'm not entirely sure "The Network" that Bobby kept referring to wasn't just a random social media intern or janitor whose opinion he and Giada asked.
  3. I actually thought Ana did well in the "describe a guilty pleasure" intermediary challenge; she didn't talk about anything poppin', which was an improvement over the challenge winner's presentation for me. She doesn't have the presentation skills otherwise to win this thing, but I'm not offended by her staying over really anyone who's left on the main show at this point. I'm clinging to Star Salvation to deliver the ultimate victor. Jennard needs to can it with the Love Chef shtick; between his dinner presentation and dish and Erin's defensive meltdown, I was fine with either going ahead of Ana in that particular trio.
  4. I think there is also a difference in packaging and mediums. Anthony Bourdain, Andrew Zimmern, and others like them are selling travel shows, so there's a story and adventures accompanying the less familiar cuisine; you can tune in and be intrigued or put off by certain foods, but half the fun is just seeing the people they meet and the locations they visit. The introduction and expansion of actual restaurants obviously means a chance to sample an unfamiliar food. But I can see Food Network, specifically, being concerned about ratings for a stand-and-stir show about a cuisine not already familiar to most of its audience without a really great impetus to compel a wide audience to watch this person preparing food about which they know little or nothing. There's surely a reason they keep falling back on the Southern angle, even if foodies discussing this show and others have good reasons to wish for something more unusual (I'd appreciate a vegetarian angle, but apparently it's not considered broad enough to be worth covering).
  5. The watercolor sketches are cool, but I kind of wish they'd offered links to a few screenshot examples, because some of those points of criticism weren't ringing a particular bell with me. But I was Rory's age as the show ran and loved her later season clothes so I suspect the peasant/print topic is at least one I'd personally take issue with, heh.
  6. I actually do. Her first dance was an emotional contemporary -- a usually high-scoring genre -- that was, by the standards of this show, well-executed; after all, her Breaking Bad jazz earlier in the season also received a perfect score. Her duet was Chicago with Bindi, and as long as both kept things sufficiently clean and sharp, which they did, it was going to go over big. But regarding Tamar, I was uncomfortable that she was permitted to return at all that night given the question mark hanging over her condition. She's certainly not the person I'd like to have seen go next, but it's far better if she can focus now on her health and scale back the schedule for a little while. The contemporary with Val looked to have potential to be something really lovely; it's unfortunate they missed the chance to dance it full out.
  7. That "just jealous!" argument is one of my absolute least favorites and somehow one that is a constant of fandom's existence. It's entirely possible to dislike a female character for her writing and to not give a flying fig about her looks/love interest/perceived popularity etc. I've loved some female characters, I've disliked others, and it all typically comes down to how much I personally appreciate or enjoy the traits of said character or how much such traits are things that bother me in people of either sex in real life, along with quality of writing and quality of storyline. What I don't appreciate is the idea that as a woman, I -- speaking generally for the population -- am committing a wrong by daring not to love every woman or girl I watch and to sometimes prefer male characters (always again for reasons having nothing to do with their...dateability or whatever).
  8. She was also recently announced for the off-ice cast of Disson's Shall We Dance on Ice show that's featuring some other DWTS names, so it's nice to see she's getting a few opportunities this fall/winter. I do wish sincerely it weren't with Gary Busey here...
  9. I've always used "=/=" in casual communication as a reference to the math symbol. Related, I always used to think the Adjective!Character formulation was inspired by action figures or something, not programming language, mainly because drawing from the former makes much more sense to me, in this snarking context, than the latter...
  10. I would have gone for more of Martha's Apprentice. It wasn't without its inanity, like Hateful Jim (TM Keckler's TWoP recaps), but the tasks were kind of fun. Some of the contestants even had a genuine interest in doing the sort of job they were competing to win, like my favorite from the show, Marcela Valladolid, who now has a successful career on Food Network and her own Safeway product line. The Celebrity concept for the show, though, has always put me off and would with any host, and this is the "show I've never watched [except for one desperate evening] but hate anyway." I know there's an ostensible charitable aspect, but as a piece of entertainment, I prefer the suspended-disbelief of the business competition aspect over the other baggage the celebrity angle brings.
  11. Heh, not to mention Brittany Cherry and her star turn in a video that's gotten over 600 million YouTube views (also having danced in Sheeran's tour), but the show probably wouldn't want to put too much spotlight on someone they cut in a first elimination. Philip for sure was missed, and the Evan and Jess omissions feel particularly glaring when they bothered to make Broadway success a category; Jess was my S8 favorite and I enjoyed Evan, and the treatment of both still rankles so... I would have paid good money for a ballroom reprise. Not a huge fan of the bench dance, but I hate that they failed to even acknowledge Heidi's role in the original -- but if they had brought her in, I would then have wanted "Black Mamba." They couldn't bother with anything in an entire genre?
  12. This is Emilia's primary blog (linked off her Twitter page), which gives a little more clarity on her "edgy" or "saucy" self-references but also isn't what I'd consider a traditional food blog so she may have some account I haven't located: Tinder Dinners As far as the episode itself goes, Michelle only made things worse for me when she turned it into "eggplant testicles" in her talking head. It was certainly an error in the presentation, but I think if it were a contestant for whom they had less affection they'd absolutely have used it as a strike against her.
  13. Maybe it can allowed if one takes it to mean that they've returned to where they were back pre-Decision?
  14. But I would assume that issue is on the person who captioned the .gif (I've seen some brutal misspellings on captioned .gifs) or at worst the program itself?
  15. The problem might be that "Dark Eyes" is essentially a waltz. I definitely do not possess particular expertise on Argentine tango and its time signatures, but it does seem that it's generally going to be set to something with an even signature of 2/4, 4/8, or 4/4, so that might be enough to create some challenges. But as a fan of ice dance, too, there were a few competitive programs a few years ago which controversially incorporated waltz and tango together -- something I actually enjoyed quite a lot on a totally non-purist level -- so I'm interested to see how this challenge is resolved! The piece absolutely has a great tango sound, so I hope they get it worked out well enough.
  16. Delurking, but Carrie Ann began her critique of Kym/Robert by saying that last week they were so cute they made her nauseous, so this week they now have her praying to the porcelain god. The whole running thing was about Carrie Ann's reaction. As for the rest of the show, was actually surprised by Nastia in the samba -- I expected her to fare well technically, but she was stronger on the performance end then I was anticipating. I feel like dancers here (and, really, in some other contexts as well) with a stronger footing in the balletic territory have struggled a bit in a more Latin style, but she acquitted herself pretty well, I thought. Also enjoyed Riker, Latin background or not, Willow, and Rumer. And won't be sorry to have seen the last of Charlotte, though bummed Keo's gotten the short straw twice now as celebs go. And Noah is definitely strong, but I also have to give it up for Sharna's core strength -- she holds herself in a lift quite well.
  17. The link isn't working for me either, and Googling it just takes me to the same (not working) page.
  18. S10's Brittany Cherry stars in Ed Sheeran's latest video, which was choreographed by NappyTabs:
  19. I don't care, Buzzfeed, I will forever stand by my support for S5 Mitchum. The man was not demonstrably wrong! But whatever, I have my own issues with a list that ranks Colin and Finn ahead of 9-10 other dudes, Dave #11, and calls Lane and Zack a perfect couple anyway.
