  1. In the 2000s (before SYTYCD type choreography and genre obscuring began to rule the day) we called them angsty slap/pound the floor lyricals. This was before modern or contemporary were even categories very often, modern sometimes where you'd see actual modern technique... not angsty pound the floor stuff. Our studio actually used to win overalls with ballet, imagine that! I'm sorry for your loss.
  2. I was being stalkerish on twitter a few weeks ago - and there was a photo posted of the studio supposedly, but I can't find it anymore. I think what I remember of it mostly was that it showed the front desk and store (sell that Abby Lee Miller Apparel!) area. It very well could have just been a "prototype" for how she wants it set up though. Has anyone else noticed that the girls are all dressed in the same colors each week lately?
  3. DADA offers open classes - just buy a punch card and you are good to go. We have no idea how the girls are training outside of choreography while they are in LA (until Abby gets her studio and faculty up and running) or maybe Absolom does. ;) There are also Millennium, The Edge and Debbie Reynolds. Just because she's taking class at DADA doesn't mean she's a full academy member.
  4. Debbie Allen's is a wonderful place for training all around dancers - she covers every genre. The lass did her summer intensive and adored it.
  5. What a silly article... of course most of the fights are producer driven - but some of them certainly haven't been fake and have lead to negative conclusions like ah, lawsuits. Of course, the whole set up is now fake since the "competitions" that are filmed are essentially fake anymore. Which leads to a question about IBTimes, is it just an internet gossip site like Inquisitr or whatever it is, because I sure don't understand the title International Business Times, it basically looks like an aggregator like Huffington Post or something, with mostly gossip.
  6. Oh, I think it's old and tired - it was fine the first week or three but it is just stupid now. I was only trying to be silly... and failed methinks.
  7. Continuing the "results" discussion, I found this for this episode, which represents the goofy placing and picking and choosing the editing by the producers give us. There are no "official" results on he NY Dance Experience site because of course this is an "invitational" and not an official competition. For example, this is the results from the recent StarSystem competition that Chloe's duet did well at (1st overall in teen duets) - it makes it really clear how everything placed overall by age grouping and level - Super Stars being the "elite" or top level at that particular competition. Comparing to what I linked about this episodes results, neither Nia nor Mack's placements (DNP) would be seen on a website if there were "official" results recorded. That being said, they may not have "placed" in the overalls, because there simply were not enough competitors to have an overall, often there is a rule that there needs to be a minimum of competitors in whatever division to justify having an overall - if Mack and Nia were third in their age divisions but they only competed against say 4 other dancers - they may not have an overall because the requirement was a minimum of 10 (I don't know if this is what happened, but it could be what happened). There were very few kids on stage, once again. I hope that all made sense.
  8. Why Why Why??? Amy Holmes, really? They think she will help this sinking ship? Arghh, she did Way too Early this morning as well - are they seriously considering her? What is Lack thinking? I certainly do not need a Glenn Beck mouthpiece with my cereal in the morning.
  9. This makes so much more sense. I'm actually excited to see what Mikey Minden does with Nia in the whole video, I'm a little frustrated that Kendall K's has been leaked but not Nia Sioux's. These stupid names... there are no words! (This is what I always think of when Mikey Minden is mentioned... and it's interesting that it's Mikey, buddy of Blake's after Blake had a lot to say about about how soul crushing this show is publicly.)
  10. Somebody needs to inform Nicolle that It's Okay if You Are a Republican.... ;)
  11. Gotcha. The only "overalls" that I've ever experienced that spanned age divisions were at International Dance Challenge (IDC) where there were overalls for Minis/Jrs and overalls for Teens/Seniors, so it's not something I've usually encountered. First season they did show some StarPower real competitions but I think they got the axe because of manipulated judging shown (as you describe) and the hassle of the tapings. I think some of the early in10sity competitions may not have been invitationals but they all have been been since my daughter was competing her last year (2012-13 season). I also noted in the first season or two - Abby would sometimes enter them in the "intermediate" levels - which was pretty yucky as well - can't stand studios that do that sort of thing just to win. (Group dances, I wouldn't have quibbled if someone like Vivi were entered there for a solo since it's based on hours per week dancing or years competing as a general rule.)
  12. Are these true "age divisions" or are they the dance style/age groupings results, i.e. lyrical age 9-10? What is the definition of the "overalls"? Not that it matters, these invitationals are fake from the get go.
  13. Tears.streaming.down.my.face.laughing.so.hard. One of y'all has to keep watching so we can keep the grand snark. Bwah! Whoopi Moondoggie and all her babies surfing.....
  14. She's a character all right, a nasty one. I don't find that to be true at all, sure they are enthusiastic most days, but the 50-100? live audience members aren't what matters, it's the 3 million folks at home.
  15. From the NewsHounds post: Are we sensing a theme here with Bitsy and her outrage with campuses? Every fucking one of these panties twisted stories are in association with Campus Reform, what a bunch of hateful right wing brats this group is. There is no shaming in asking people to check their privilege, it's an exercise in understanding the social privileges that we each have juxtaposed against what others are not afforded. The faux outrage and exploiting the naïveté of a clearly unworldly freshman from Appalachian State for heaven's sake, is nauseating! By both over-privileged Bitsy and her band of privileged campus talibangelicals. ...stepping off soapbox
  16. While I agree with this, they do not have to embarrass the girls and make them look awful. Again and again on AfterBuzz and such, Abby has said that she's taken over the costuming from production because they did such an awful job. The choreography didn't have to be crap to lose to a beautiful lyrical either, because in the real competition world, it's very true that a pretty lyrical (or "contemporary") will usually win, unless there is a really amazing ballet, cool tap or incredibly creative "open" type number. This is a generality of course. It' pretty normal in Minis and Jrs to see trick after trick after trick in acro with little emphasis on control or artistry - sort of the same as the Jr Division generally - lots of fast turns and leaps - not always well controlled and no transitions or artistry at all. (Again, generally speaking.) That all changes as you move into the Teen and Sr divisions. You will see beautiful Sr pieces with only a couple multiple turns and leaps that win - because of beautiful artistry, musicality, transitions and actual dancing. My younger sister (who can be irritating) and both my kid's names start with a hard C... if my ire is up - you never know what will come out of my mouth. :P
  17. I call bullshit. I know that she gets annoyed often about production, but even if production insisted on the theme for this dance, Gianna could have done a very good jazz piece to it, there was simply no dancing in the whole number. That's why it sucked, had nothing to do with Maddie being there or not, the piece was a joke for the junior "all tricks all the time" division. The costumes sucked as well - Mackenzie looked ridiculous. And even if, this was Abby's means of protest against the production team, how mature to make the girls look awful for her own agenda, pure Abby.
  18. I'm a big fan of Elizabeth Warren, that she'd attach herself to Mika's ME ME ME tour is distasteful to me and actually makes me think less of her, tbh. I'm sure her motivation is to get more women off their arses and become involved, but it's just so gross.
  19. Well as far as production goes, I didn't notice "Collins" anywhere in the credits.
  20. The recent was a relief actually - no drama! Boring though - just a repeat of the Chandelier facials.
  21. My DVR shows it as taping next week - but didn't show it last night, who knows with these Abby spin-offs.
  22. Orange Carpet photos from the KCA at Huffington Post. Yes, Chloe was invited by the KCA which actually makes sense since the award was based on a season that she participated in.
  23. Perfect! I didn't catch what Abby said, I was sleepy and then just deleted from the dvr, how nasty was it?
