  1. I feel like we're saying the same thing but in different ways.
  2. That not being his dream is what made him a sell-out. Perhaps a temporary sell-out until he had enough cash to open his club, but a sell-out nonetheless. And that is what Mia called him out for -- what she saw as giving up on his dream.
  3. Hooray for Alex telling them to start at the tops of categories! FJ was an instaget for me, and apparently for all the contestants. But otherwise, that was not a good game -- I really didn't think the former champ would be in FJ. Rich, the new champ, reminds me a lot of a young Wil Wheaton. I was shocked, though, when he missed the DD of Dylan Thomas in the Welsh writers category. Welsh writers = Dylan Thomas. I also got HTML, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, and Dick Francis. I'm not particularly a fan of mysteries, but I like the ones he wrote. I think because of all the research he did into the backgrounds of his characters. Also that it isn't the same characters in every book.
  4. Oh well -- wishful thinking on my part, I guess.
  5. Oh, hooray! And we may not even have to see him at the TOC, right? Was this his fifth game or sixth? Not that the new champ is much better in terms of starting at the bottoms of categories, but it does not hurt my feelings in the slightest that Jon lost. Incidentally, Inuit? Horrible guess, since they are North American natives. FJ was an instaget for me. This would have been a decent game but for the board-hopping and the game-slowing by Jon. I get that taking forever to pick the next clue is a strategy, but I'd rather see the board cleared than wait around for days for the next clue to be picked. Anyway, it didn't seem like there were too many TS, but I did get Maui and old maids.
  6. Boo, hiss, Jon wins again. And for no reason I can think of, Wimbledon was the first and only thing that came to mind. Even after I thought about it for a few seconds, I couldn't think of anything else that would have a quarterfinals and possibly be in England where they have tea. I couldn't believe Jon missed Monaco, though. Isn't it common knowledge that Grimaldi = Monaco? I also got his other missed DD of Tennessee Valley Authority, but wondered if they would have accepted TVA, since that's what people usually call it. And somehow, I came up with cadaver as well. No idea except for the medical student hint.
  7. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.
  8. I loved that the family just rolled with it.
  9. I thought Sebastian resembled Jason Bateman. Dammit, Chloe, I was rooting for you! Sebastian annoyed with the leaning, and Jon, well, is Jon. And can't anyone start at the tops of the categories anymore??? FJ was an instaget for me. I also managed to get Calgary, a surprising TS, Swee' Pea, Scott Turow, James VI, and pop. They must have forgotten the category for pop, otherwise I don't see how they all missed that one. I can't believe Jon's only been on for four days. It seems like it's been weeks.
  10. I did not get FJ -- I'm not sure I've ever read it (or had it read to me), so I came up with nothing. However, I have read Great Expectations, and got that TS. I also knew projection and forgetting, and in a wild-ass guess, got Yellow River. I am beyond ready for Jon to lose.
  11. The woman guessed satellites, not space shuttle, which aren't even transportation, and definitely aren't christened. Jon lost me with his very first pick, though I laughed, too. But then I rolled my eyes when he didn't even bother to wager the maximum amount. And then Trevor did the same damn thing in DJ! But at least he made a good wager. When the Third Party Candidate category was announced, I shouted "Ross Perot!" and was glad to see that he was the answer to one of the clues. It was a little surprising that no one got it, though. As third party candidates go, he was one of the more memorable. I could barely remember the ones from last year. To Sir, With Love was a very surprising TS! It's the first movie I think of when I think of Sidney Poitier. I also got X, and was a little surprised they all missed that, too. But I was torn between the 747 and Air Force One for FJ, and chose incorrectly. The Concorde briefly entered my mind, but I thought 1970 was too early for that. I didn't really care who won, though, since both the contenders kept annoying me by starting in the middles of categories.
  12. Good for Jon, though I got confused when he skipped over the $800 clue in the last category in the first round. It could have really cost him if someone else had gotten the DD right. I spent too much time trying to identify the flower, which I did not recognize at all, and didn't pay enough attention to the clue itself, so I flubbed FJ as well. And then did a mighty face palm when Alex said it was edelweiss. One of my favorite movies, and I've even stayed at the Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont! D'oh! Not a good game for me tonight. :(
  13. I suspect she knew enough about him by the time we meet them and the village to wholeheartedly and vigorously reject him.
  14. THAT'S what pissed me off about Nathan! He really got annoyed when he was behind, didn't he?
  15. Clint pissed me off when he started in the middle of the category in DJ. Nathan just plain pissed me off. I really hoped the woman would win, but oh well! I admit I had to think just a second for FJ -- mostly to remember which direction latitude is. Duh. Once I remembered that, it was incredibly easy. The only TS I got, though, were David and inflation.
  16. Also he was willfully ignorant with zero intellectual curiosity and saw nothing of value in Belle except for her appearance. If nothing else, she would be bored to tears in minutes.
  17. I was expecting a correction for that, too.
  18. IIRC, they have a few weeks of filming left, plus possible reshoots.
  19. Hoffa??????? What an insane guess. Trump is not much better (as a guess). Florida real estate in the 60s = Walt Disney. It was an instaget for me. And I laughed out loud at "M.T. Lott" -- I'd not heard that pseudonym before. I am sad that Nathan won. I was rooting for William. Mostly because Nathan claps like Nicole Kidman. The only TS I got was Lender's bagels. Oh, which reminds me of Brandon's other insane guess of marmalade when the answer was lox.
  20. I think I'd have to skip the pumpkin juice (I don't even like pumpkin pie!), but the rest sounds like SO MUCH FUN!
  21. In her defense (and I'm not proud of defending her), she did stop after saying "Chilly", but Alex hesitated in ruling her correct, so she added "the Penguin". I blame Alex for the weird judging on that one.
  22. I think Brandon looks like he really needs a nap. I feel like I look that way -- can barely keep my eyes open -- when I need a nap. I have never heard of a biting midge. Biting flies, yes, but not midges. And I cracked up so much at Alex pronouncing "genre" that I think I missed a couple of clues. But I did get cloud, Trinity, lava tubes, Buddha's mother, Stone of Scone, and Dundee. I was surprised Trinity was a TS (though I was glad to see my alma mater show up in that category!), and also that my wild-ass guess of Buddha's mother was correct. I couldn't think of a name, either. FJ was an instaget -- one of my favorite Bradbury novels.
