^^^ Not sure if these are the correct interviews... ‘Arrow’: ‘Olicity,’ Felicity’s First Solo Mission And More Intel From Emily Bett Rickards And Marc Guggenheim By Laura Prudom April 24, 2013 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/24/arrow-olicity-felicity-oliver-emily-bett-rickards_n_3144718.html?utm_hp_ref=entertainment&ir=Entertainment 'Arrow' Boss on Oliver's Love Life: Not Many Superheroes "Are Married" Philiana Ng September 9, 2014 http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/arrow-producer-oliver-felicity-ras-731022

At SA's Friday panel at Dragon Con 2015 (Sep. 4, 2015), when a fan asked about EBR's character not originally planned to be an integral part of the show and if he knew Felicity was eventually going to Oliver's love interest, SA responded: "The answer is no and no. The bare bones of making a TV show is that you are going to shoot a pilot, and we shot the pilot in March of 2012. March, April, of 2012. That pilot gets put together, gets picked up by the network, you go to the Upfronts, and you announce that you're going to do a series, and you know - the best pilots set the table for a series, but at the same time they really need to be explosive and almost their own story, so that the show actually gets picked up in the first place. Then when you get into the bare bones of television production, we were completed - we had completed episode 9 before the pilot had actually premiered. So how do you know what's going to work? How do you know what's going to pop or resonate with an audience? You don't really know until people watch it. And, in the early going, after Emily's first appearance in the third episode, it was just people who saw the studio and the network cuts going, 'we enjoyed her performance', so we saw her again. And I knew that she was going to be an integral part of the show when all of a sudden they built her a set. (audience laughs) Right? When you build someone a set, they're going to be around for a little bit. (audience laughs and claps) And then she signed on as a regular. But, you know, as late as - I don't know - probably the midway point of season 2, it was like, 'do you think that Oliver and Felicity will ever get together?' And I swear to God, the show runner said this, 'Absolutely not. Never.' (audience laughs) Which is why you never say never… Never say never." An Unexpected Treat at Stephen Amell Live! This season's "back to basics" version of Arrow has made one thing very clear to me - TPTB don't really understand (or have forgotten) what made S1 and S2 so well-received and well-liked. Yes, better action sequences and better flashbacks were both key elements of the first two seasons. But arguably more important - or at least equally as important - were better, more consistently written and developed characters and relationships. In a July 2012 interview (before Arrow even debuted), Marc Guggenheim said: "[O]ne of the things that is part of the DNA of the show is the emotional complexity, the emotional resonance of the relationships between the characters. It’ll start off with Oliver relating to Thea, and Oliver relating to Moira, etc., but as the show evolves and grows in the series, we’ll start putting other characters together... So watching the characters combine and interact with each other in ways that independent of Oliver, I think, is just as interesting as when Oliver is involved. Part of the show is a soap opera. Part of the show is a character drama. And that’s, I think, one of the very importants of the show. It’s not just Oliver beating up bad guys every week.” So when I read comments about how Arrow must go back to what it did in S1/S2 and be a superhero show again, and not a soap opera or relationship drama (usually in support of an argument that the show must have more fights and little to no romance), I have to grit my teeth. (To be clear, I think Arrow needs it all - action, fights, mystery, drama, romance, etc. - but in a more balanced and organic way.) This season, the characters have become unrecognizable and, in some cases, unlikeable. And the relationships are indecipherable and, in some cases, unlikeable. The EPs went "back to basics" with the more superficial elements, but lost the heart and soul of the show. This season, the EPs didn't reboot the show to make it better. They destroyed what made Arrow a good show in the first place.

I'm glad that Eonline is doing this, because I thought that the voting problems were sketchy and unfair to non-mobile users.

Maybe they overestimated Carly Pope's Popular-ity? If Arrow has never been beholden to the comics, then what's with this season's party line about how we can't have a Green Arrow show without a Black Canary? Someone upthread asked about 520/Felicity/Malone's death. Here's what WM said: "The grieving is not going to stop. We're going to be feeling the repercussions of what happened with Malone at lea[st] through episode 520." (Jan. 25, 2017 ScreenerTV article, page 52 of Spoilers thread)

That was so apparent from the very first episode of this season when they had Laurel say, "Please don't let me be the last Canary," conveniently forgetting about the existence of her sister, Sara, f/k/a the Canary, n/k/a the White Canary.

If Arrow ratings had gone up this season, would anyone be giving credit to S3 and S4? No, of course not. They'd be crediting the current season of the show. But because ratings have gone down, instead of blaming the current season, they're blaming the previous two seasons. Great logic. Ratings going down over the course of a season means that people who were watching earlier in this same season have dropped out... http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/arrow-tv-show-cw-season-five-ratings/

I'm also enjoying AoS this season. They're doing a good job of integrating action/fights into the overall plot, creating tension, and not ignoring character development. This episode focused on two of the best characters/actors now - Jemma (Elizabeth Henstridge) and Daisy (Chloe Bennet). However, the biggest weakness of that show remains Coulson.* His big dramatic scene with May had Ming-Na Wen in one corner, doing a fantastic job of portraying the conflicted LMD May, and then there was Coulson in the other corner, with Clark Gregg reciting each line as if he was reading off cards. Luckily, they've spread the screen time around to different cast members better this year. (* His monotone voice really annoys me. Clark Gregg's deadpan way of speaking and always immobile face worked fine when he was a SHIELD minion making cameo appearances in various Avengers movies, but when he's the lead character - or one of the lead characters - and the leader of the team, it just highlights his limitations as an actor. But YMMV.)

And yet I'm sure that some will still blame Olicity for this season's falling ratings. If this season was so great, ratings would be slowly climbing, not slowly dropping.
