'Arrow' Poll: Should There Be More Political Stories? February 17, 2017 Derek Stauffer http://www.buddytv.com/articles/arrow/arrow-poll-should-there-be-mor-63325.aspx

ITA. I fear that what MG's comment about all online theories being wrong meant is that Oliver proposes to Susan at this season's end and she returns as a regular next season (as Star City's star reporter). In a future episode, we'll learn that Tinah also went undercover with a street gang that liked to do martial arts and that's how she got her martial arts training.

Agents of GEEK Podcast Episode 61 Craig Wack & Tatiana Torres 02/16/2017 http://agentsofgeekpodcast.com/wordpress/ -- Craig said that 513 was "a very special episode" of Arrow. He thought it felt a "little off" and "weird." He noted that the Berlanti shows take place in fictional worlds and having an episode take place in "a very real world" took him aback. Tatiana would prefer that the show stayed in the "fake world," considering the state of the real world makes her want the escapism. She would prefer that any parallels that are done on the show be more "crafty". -- Craig said that Felicity was "the avatar of the audience, who's sick of the noise back and forth." But he also appreciated Curtis' position that we need to have a conversation and reach a compromise. Tatiana noted that people "don't even know what compromise is any more." -- Craig noted that Arrow has a "very casual relationship with violence, particularly with gun violence," pointing out that just about every other week, "mass dudes with automatic weapons and body armor... stage some sort of attack on a public gathering in Star City." -- Craig said it felt "tone deaf" to have this guy shoot and kill 7 people, which normally would be a tragedy, but on this show, we've seen masked guys with guns shooting up stuff "way too much" in the past couple of years, so for this to happen is just like "Tuesday." Tatiana noted that every previous Mayor and D.A. has been killed, and Craig noted that Felicity was just shot and paralyzed last year. -- Tatiana reiterated that it was a very important debate to have, but she didn't think that a show where people are shooting each other every week is the place to have it. She noted that Oliver just killed Malone recently. Craig noted that both Diggle & Wild Dog carry and use guns every week. Tatiana thought that Agents of SHIELD "might be able to pull this off because they use icers." Craig thought that even Supergirl might be better able to pull it off because Alex doesn't use a gun with bullets any more, but instead uses a "little laser gun that she stole from that planet across the galaxy." So Supergirl has distanced themselves from guns and bullets. But Arrow is supposed to be grounded in reality. -- However, Craig did think that it was a good way to handle Wild Dog. Tatiana now felt more "connected" to Wild Dog after seeing his back story. -- Craig mentioned that we got more of Felicity hacking and got a Prometheus "name drop" and even Thea was back. Tatiana loved that Thea "hates stupid, lying fake reporter." Craig loved Thea's "throwing up in the mouth" line. -- In summary, Craig thought that this episode had some good moments, but it also had problems. However, he appreciated the effort and thought it was a "brave" thing for MG to do.

I'm pretty convinced that Prometheus is Justin Claybourne's son. There have been too many interview comments about how Prometheus was Oliver's "dark mirror" and paralleled Oliver, in that they're both sons acting on their fathers' legacies. So yeah, I think he will be Claybourne's son. The only surprise will be if Claybourne's son turns out to be someone we know (which allows for the Malone possibility) and/or if he has any sisters, relatives or cohorts. I'm also skeptical of an Olicity reunion this season (though I would love to be surprised by one and only if it's permanent). However, I agree that there's still hope and that there's more chemistry between Oliver & Felicity than there is between Oliver and Tinah. Still, the EPs/writers can do whatever they want. A year from now, if they've hooked up Oliver and Tinah, I can see them saying that they laid the foundation stones for building their relationship in S5 with Oliver learning to trust and confide in Tinah, taking her advice, becoming friends, fighting together, etc. (Oliver & Felicity started off as just friends, albeit with a lot more chemistry.) There is also that MG comment about how Tinah is someone who comes to the team "without the burden of having dealt with all of Oliver's secrets and in some cases lies and mishegas" and "without the baggage of the past four seasons." It could very well be that they want Oliver to start afresh with someone new, who he hasn't lied to or deceived. He is the 'hero' of the show, after all. The thinking could be that, just as Lauriver was tainted by the sister-swapping, now Olicity is tainted by the BMD. Did he ever apologize to Laurel, by the way? We know he never apologized to Felicity. He just keeps going, and the EPs go out of their way to justify his selfish actions. Tinah got Laurel's name and Sara's bo staff. She's got cop training and some bo staff training while undercover with the Pilgrims(!), so now she's apparently an expert bo staff user? Waiting for the weapons-switching fight scene with Oliver, where she fights as if she had League training like Sara...

Okay, here's my wild conspiracy theory of the day... Doris Chase and Dinah Drake are sisters. Or, better yet (since Dinah is a comics character), Doris Chase and Susan Williams are sisters. They, along with Adrian Chase, are all part of the conspiracy to take down the Green Arrow. I swear, the new brunettes on the show this season all look similar enough to be related. Doris Chase (Parveen Dosanjh):

You know what's worse than Lying Oliver? Preachy Oliver. His multiple speeches in this episode (esp. to the gunman and to the public) were cringe-inducing. Oliver also expresses concern that he, as the Green Arrow, is just contributing to the "vicious cycle" of meeting violence with violence. So I guess he's going to stop being the Green Arrow, right? No? And Felicity gets thrown under the bus again. In this MG-written episode, the newer characters that're being propped up this season get the desired and popular viewpoints. Curtis is the mouthpiece for MG's position that issues must be debated out loud. Rene and Dinah are the mouthpieces for the pro-gun rights position, a position that is undoubtedly popular with the target male demo for this show. Felicity gets to be the mouthpiece for the position that MG thinks is wrong (that we shouldn't talk about such issues), despite the fact that she of all people should and would want to talk about this issue. So Felicity wasn't sure if her relationship with Malone was "real", but Oliver is already "getting pretty serious about Susan"? WTF?! Although Susan's absence from this episode is puzzling. You'd think a reporter would have a role to play in an episode about a city hall shooting. Where was she at the press conference? Did I miss something? Is she abstaining from doing her job just because she and Oliver had sex? Rene's back story is predictable and unoriginal. Rene has a 12-year-old daughter? How old is Rene supposed to be? And we're supposed to believe that Rene's back story led to his pro-gun stance? Arguably, if he hadn't had a gun, maybe his wife wouldn't have been shot and killed. Dinah is saying lines that could've been said by Laurel in the Arrow bunker scenes. It's like they replaced Laurel with Dinah on the team just to get rid of KC. By the way, Dinah has more chemistry with Diggle (who's married) and Quentin (who's already been married to a Dinah) than she does with Oliver.* Bad news for the EPs if they are positioning her as a next-season love interest for Oliver. But still, a big NO to any Dinah/Diggle romance. (* In fact, a few media reviewers - IGN and ScreenCrush - have commented on the chemistry between Dinah and Diggle.) Adrian Chase is married? I guess the person he lost wasn't his wife. Here's a thought - could Doris Chase be Dinah's sister? Or maybe Susan's sister? They look similar enough to be related. This episode was the worst episode of the season and arguably the worst episode of the series. It was a very simplistic depiction of a very complicated issue. Oliver's "citywide gun control ordinances" sounded like no gun control at all (Oliver: "Nothing that makes it harder to buy or own or carry a gun." Rene: "It also doesn't prohibit people from protecting themselves from gun violence.") Contrary to what the Rene/Curtis debate seemed to indicate, it isn't a choice between (1) prohibiting citizens from having any guns at all and (2) allowing citizens to have guns freely and without restriction. Just like with free speech, there's an in-between ground where reasonable restrictions can be imposed - but that's a debate for another forum. This was the wrong show to discuss gun control. This show glamorizes gun violence and killing in virtually every episode, whether it's done with bullets or arrows or swords. What are James Bamford's and Corey Robson's jobs? To make violence look cool. In fact, this season was promoted last summer by talking up an increased focus on fighting (violence). As highlighted by SA last year: "Oliver kills half a dozen people in the pilot episode of the season." And you know what's worse? Next episode, this show will just go back to normal - with Oliver and Team Arrow shooting people, and the Arrow b-t-s crew doing their best to make violence on the show look beautiful.
