  1. I wonder if Oliver's headstone is still standing in the cemetery - like Sara's headstone apparently still was, even after 7 years and her 'welcome home' party... http://www.avclub.com/article/oliver-queen-dead-long-live-oliver-queen-214122 By the way, the writer of that article is kinda snarky (I like it!):
  2. This website, The Outhousers, takes a look at the comic references and Easter eggs in each episode of Arrow (if you like this sort of thing)... Arrow Annotations http://www.theouthousers.com/index.php/staff/find/tag/arrow_annotations.html
  3. I really think the quality of the storytelling has gone down on Arrow this season. And I still think the reason is that the EPs are spread too thin - and what TV time they do have is devoted more to The Flash. Let's look at the EPs' current projects (that we know of): Marc Guggenheim - Arrow (TV show), Arrow Season 2.5 (companion digital comics), Vixen (animated online series), and Daredevil #15.1 (comics). Andrew Kreisberg - The Flash (TV show), The Flash Season Zero (companion digital comics), Green Arrow (comics), and 2015 Oscars (writer). Greg Berlanti - Arrow (TV show), The Flash (TV show), The Mysteries of Laura (TV show), Supergirl (TV show), 2015 Oscars (head writer), and Pan (2015 movie, in post-production). During the Sept. 6, 2014 Paleyfest Fall TV Previews panel, AK talked about when they were doing Ep. 14 of Season 1 of Arrow and were just getting the hang of writing for Arrow, then GB said that they should do a spin-off, and his reaction was: "Are you kidding? We can barely do one of these." He was right.
  4. I think it's how you interpret the line "avenging her sister to honoring her sister to becoming her sister". When I first heard it, it sounded like a done deal - like Laurel first avenged Sara, then honored her and finally is becoming her. It would've been clearer if the line was "Laurel goes from seeking vengeance for her sister to honoring her sister to becoming her sister." As for the "I'm the justice that you can't run away from" line - I think it could work if said the right way by the right person and in the right context. However, as Danny Franks noted above, it's a problem when Laurel - an ADA - is essentially acting as judge, jury and executioner. Sure, there's sometimes clear cases where the obviously guilty bad guy goes free, so you might root for someone going vigilante and imposing street justice. But sometimes someone may appear guilty but actually be innocent. That's why we have a justice system set up to protect the innocent who's wrongfully accused (presumed innocent until proven guilty?), with a prosecutor, a defense lawyer, a judge and sometimes a jury. Oliver did the same thing in season 1 when he went after the bad guys on his father's list, but it was Team Arrow - specifically Felicity - who got him to stop and think about what he was doing (that episode where she tried to lock him in the Arrowcave because the bad guy he was going after had a kid). I wonder if Laurel's BC is actually going to kill any bad guys, or just beat them up (but what does that accomplish?), or try to capture them and leave them for the police? She's killed before with apparently no regrets, so it wouldn't be the first time.

  8. Regarding KC's TCA statement that Laurel goes from "avenging her sister to honoring her sister to becoming her sister" -- I never understood that statement. Laurel never avenged her sister (and never searched for Sara's killer). Laurel never honored her sister because keeping Sara's death a secret, following Sara's path (which Sara would not have wanted) and taking on her identity is not exactly honoring her. And Laurel becoming her younger sister is just creepy. Anyway, MG seems to be backtracking on Laurel "becoming her sister" in this recent Tumblr posting:
  9. I'm puttng this here because it's really about relationships and it's not spoilery... I had previously speculated in the Green Arrow in Comics thread that, in 10 years, Felicity might be considered the Lois Lane or Mary Jane for the Green Arrow. It looks like SA thinks the same way. From TV Line's interview with SA (posted in the Spoilers thread): SA really gets it. Oliver's relationship with Felicity has grown organically over the course of two-plus seasons, from temporary allies to trusted friends to equal partners to wannabe lovers. Both Laurel and Sara are past loves (I like how he equates them in Oliver's mind), but they never were Oliver's trusted friends first. For SA to say that Felicity has grown into this superhero's great love is saying a lot. Unfortunately, SA is not an EP of the show and does not dictate the course of the tv series. If the Arrow EPs make a drastic change on the relationship front next season, then SA will have to change his tune to conform to the company line.
  10. To quote Dorothy Parker: "Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses." It's a classic Hollywood trope - wearing glasses and having pulled-back hair usually indicates the "plain Jane" (from Diana Prince in disguise in the old Wonder Woman tv show to Laney Biggs in She's All That, as mentioned by Danny Franks). By contrast, the "beautiful" girl usually wears no glasses and has long flowing hair around her face. That's why Felicity is such a refreshing change - she's a girl who wears glasses and has a pulled-back ponytail most of the time, but she's the love interest and not treated like the plain Jane. Sure she drops the glasses and lets her hair loose when she's glamorizing up to go undercover or go on a date, but it's not her everyday look. It's not like she permanently transforms like in the movies and never goes back to the glasses/ponytail look. She changes it up. The new sexy nerd look is in - just look at Dr. Cassandra Railly in 12 Monkeys: That's why the description for the new Supergirl tv show is disappointing. I thought we were past that old trope.
  11. Laurel's Black Canary will do well because they'll use an amazing stunt double for most of the fighting. I don't think Laurel is going anywhere. MG's Tumblr responses make it clear that the EPs are planning on having her Black Canary train more with different fight trainers and get better and better over the course of several years. The Arrow EPs are riding high on the success of The Flash right now and probably have a lot of power at the CW Network. So I think they'll have a lot of say over their shows. Plus it's in their best interests to increase Laurel's popularity if they ever want a future BC or BOP spin-off in the future. I like SA but I didn't like this statement by him (in his TV Line interview): You can be a fan of the show and not like the story that has been told so far. Also, there's almost an implication that you'll continue watching (the upcoming trilogy) if you're a fan of the show. I actually think Ep. 3x10 will do quite well, ratings-wise, and that the EPs will consider that vindication that they're going in the right direction. Regarding the discussion above about Slade Wilson coming after Felicity or Laurel again because he thinks one or the other is the one that Oliver loves (from the events in "Unthinkable"). I think he'd come after Felicity for no other reason than she was the one who jabbed him with the hypodermic needle and made it possible for Oliver to defeat him.

  22. That Robert Dougherty article that wonderwall quoted in the Media thread ("The Best Case Scenarios for Arrow Season 3B") really captures a lot of my fears for the remainder of this season. Dougherty has the following hopes/wishes for 3B: 1. An Oliver-free trilogy that isn’t overrun by Laurel. 2. Thea being allowed to see the whole truth once and for all. 3. The end of secrecy on Arrow. 4. Actual screen time for Malcolm Merlyn. 5. A quick end to Raylicity. 6. Diggle to shine personally and professionally. 7. A.R.G.U.S. and Amanda Waller to factor into the present day. 8. Female friendship to return to Arrow. 9. Felicity to not look bad for the sake of drama. 10. Oliver not becoming a soulless zombie for 10 episodes. 11. Not waiting until the season finale to stop dragging Olicity out.
