Favorite Quotes: "What the hell goes on at night in this house?!"
Stinger97 replied to Kiddvideo's topic in The Golden Girls
"Well excuse me for living, Anita Bryant." -
This is a place for you to discuss all the episodes ever (which we've all likely seen 100x over yet still crack up at). With the show currently airing on at least two cable networks, I expect quite a bit of chatter.

Well, that escalated quickly. Charlotte is there one minute, the next she's committing suicide in a most dramatic fashion. Like, instead of stabbing that innocent kid last episode, you could have saved everyone the trouble and tossed yourself off the cliff from the very beginning. Either way, sayonara, Swiss Miss (... she looked like the Swiss Miss). Also, as a big a dick as he was, I felt like Murphy was a teeny tiny bit justified in being hella pissed off at Charlotte and the rest of the group. If you're gonna string someone up for a murder he never committed (even though he was indiscriminately peeing on people who expressed that they were feeling a touch parched from building the Great Wall of Earth), be prepared for him to organize a big unruly mob once he's cut down. Just sayin'. Clarke and... that dude who looks like all the other dudes... bonking at the end of the episode, and in that very romantic bomb shelter no less? Good stuff. I have zero idea of what is going on up in the Ark. How is Abby planning to save everyone on the Ark by sending Raven down to Earth? Why did Nigel flip on Abby? What is Gladys from Reaper doing leading a class on bonsai care?

Lindsay Morgan (ex-Kristina) is guest starring on the CW's The 100. She's just as stilted as she was on GH.
-
I forgot to mention that I loved the Bob Ross cameo. Like, any show that can drop a Bob Ross reference and feature a shot of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, is alright by me.
-
Troy Gentile is kinda, sorta brilliant in the role.

I laughed a bunch, mostly because of Barry's ridiculous idea of romantic foods ("Soft cheeses, oysters, and onion dip!"). I also cracked up at Beverly's first attempt at a Bert and Ernie cake ("Bert looks like Sloth from The Goonies!"). Erica had her moments acting as the "smother-y sister."

The number to the far right of all the data indicates how much, year over year, each particular show is up or down in that particular measure. So, over this time last year, GH is up 304k in total viewers, as well as up 151k in viewers 18-49. Additionally, according to Soap Opera Network, here are the last 3 weeks in ratings for GH: So the show had an up week last week, but has been fluctuating quite a bit lately. However, better to recoup the viewers it had lost rather than lose some more. And it's always great to see it up over 3 million total viewers.

Courtesy of TVBTN ("GH Surges in Total Viewers & 18-49"): Great week for GH, probably due to the Britt reveal.

I must be completely daft, because I actually gasped when Charlotte stuck Wells with the knife. In my defense, it was late at night and I wasn't super invested in that little brat anyway. I do, however, hope that the group figures out that she's the murderer and strings her up by her braids.

Courtesy of TVBTN: Not great, but I'm hoping it can hold on and somehow get itself renewed. It's a fun Wednesday night show, and the only thing I'm interested in in the 9pm hour.

Was that Adam? I thought Octavia said that she was his brother, but then she was all pissed off at Bellamy and then he referred to her as his sister. And then I was super confused. Hopefully these kids find a mall somewhere and I can differentiate them based on their clothing choices. I actually missed the first two episodes, and only sat down to watch the third last night. It took me about 45 minutes to figure out what the hell was going on ("Tons of random lens flare indicates flashbacks!"/ "Being floated means being flung out into space!" / "Earth was these kids' only refuge from the dying Ark!"), but once I did, I liked it well enough. So, yea, I think I'm in for the long haul.

I pegged Cory as a big ol' douche at the beginning of the season, and at least he was consistent. I think Cory has the ability to be a good guy (when sober, I think Cory liked hanging out with Brian and wanted to look out for him), but after an evening of drinking, Cory was horrible. Not to mention the fact that he treated his pregnant ex-girlfriend with not an ounce of understanding or respect. I loved The Shit They Should've Shown, mostly for Jenna's segment focusing on her only eating chicken nuggets. At one point, Jamie was like, "You and those chicken nuggets," and Jenna, bless her heart, responded in the most sad, guilty way possible with, "...I know." It was cute. She may have the personality of a gnat (or, she wasn't interesting enough for the producers to focus on), but at that moment, I decided I loved her. And she's from Long Island, so she automatically gets some love from me. Tom and Jamie? Won't miss them.

Did anyone else notice that "Eye of the Tiger" was a cover, and not Survivor's version? I don't believe the show's done that before. I was a little disappointed, but perhaps they couldn't afford the original version.

Such an odd season. I liked it, but it never felt like The Real World. I felt bad for Brian. Perhaps he brought most of the shit on himself, but he took a lot of flack from everyone -- Cory, Jenny, Tom, etc. Was he dumb as rocks? Sure. Did he probably have some of it coming? Of course. But he never could catch a break, even when he wasn't in someone's face. My heart went out to him.

One thing I remember vividly from this season? Cameran getting out of the car and running straight into a cactus. I still crack up thinking about it. And if her appearances on Bravo's reality show, Southern Charm, is anything to off of, she's still down to earth and as cute as ever.

Love him or hate him, he was always a consistent schlub.

Worst of Golden Girls: Your Least Favorite Moments
Stinger97 replied to FormerMod-a1's topic in The Golden Girls
I hate the episode in which Rose starts to "eat Life." In fact, most of the episodes that feature the girls at odds are my least favorites. -
Nineteen Eighty-something: Anachronisms, and Cultural Touchstones
Stinger97 replied to Kromm's topic in The Goldbergs
I had my eyes peeled for any anachronisms when Barry showed up at the airport looking for Fanny and, surprisingly, didn't see any. I thought it would be difficult to keep anything and everything out of the scene that didn't exist in the 80s, but I was pleasantly surprised nothing slipped through. Although, I don't recall having to walk through a metal detector at the airport as a kid, and that was in the 90s. Although, now that I think about it, I didn't fly for the first time well into my teens. I do remember, however, being able to walk to the gate with your family and friends to see them off. Nowadays, it's all Kiss & Fly at the terminal. -
ABC is known for saving their renewals until late April, early May. They're apparently always the last ones to renew their shows, except for their breakout hits. Silly, but not unexpected. I'm not concerned about the show being renewed, but more concerned about where ABC is going to slot S2. With The Neighbors likely being cancelled, I would hope they wouldn't slot the show on Friday nights at 8:30. Keeping my fingers crossed it gets moved to Wednesday night right after The Middle. That's what I'm expecting, but you never know with the those IIC over at ABC. I loved the episode. It was right up there with some of the best ones this season. What I loved about this episode (and about this show, really) is that it all ended on a very happy note, but without coming off corny. Erica helped Barry out; Beverly helped Adam out; and Murray was there to witness Adam succeed at the pull-up bar. And then to have Adam teaching Murray to swim? There was an audible "awwwwwwww" from me. But the show always tempers those sweet moments with legitimately funny stuff, too, which is necessary to keep the show from being cheesy. For example, after Adam did his singular pull-up, it would have been easy for the show to leave it at that and let him revel in his success. But the gym teacher's quip (something along the lines of "That was ugliest pull-up I've ever seen done-- but good job, Goldfarb") was perfect. In other news, Beverly really is the perfect s'mother, and WMC is perfect in the role. The show got lucky in casting her.

She never leaves home without it.

Sophia Petrillo: That Young Peasant Girl Was Her
Stinger97 replied to Bastet's topic in The Golden Girls
Agreed. There was one line which always bothered me, when Dorothy tells Sophia that Sophia is her best friend and she is Sophia's. Sophia responds with something similar to, "Best friend? You're not even my favorite daughter." I remember the first few times I'd heard her say it, it struck me. I mean, what an awful thing to say to your kid. But, as you said, Bastet, there was an earlier episode in which Sophia tells Dorothy she is/was her favorite, and I'm more inclined to believe that that was how she really felt. -
Carly Corinthos-Jacks: Ruining Lives Since 1996
Stinger97 replied to BetteBoo's topic in General Hospital
This is almost like those arguments James Bond fans get into about who their favorite Double-Oh-Seven was/is. I grew up on Sarah Brown's portrayal of Carly, so she's the one I remember most fondly. However, I think each actress (except for What's Her Name, who was in the role for something like 10 minutes) has had some defining moments as Carly. I think, for me, Tamara Braun had the most. During the Panic Room arc, I still remember her on the floor, clawing for the phone in Liz and Ric's house, right after Liz had a stroke from the birth control pills Ric was slipping her. And I still remember her opening her eyes from her coma after the Bullet of Love incident, which led into the "heartbeat" of Dave Koz's GH theme. It all gave me chills. And I acknowledge that much of this was the writers and the story that was given to TB to play, but I thought she did a great job with it all. I don't know if I would be equally impressed with LW if she was given the same material. I wasn't bowled over by LW's Carly begging Heather to spare her life in the Spoon Island barn, but YMMV. -
I grew up watching reruns of the show, I think on USA. Natalie was always my favorite, because she was "chubby" and, more often than not, the comedy relief. But the show, along with a ton of other 80s sitcoms, was comfort food for my TV loving heart. There are still moments in my adult life when I become so frazzled and anxiety-filled, that I have to sit down and watch an episode of FoL to calm my nerves. "Take My Finals, Please," will always be a favorite, especially as I study for law school finals.
