S03.E03: Part Three - Seventeen Seconds
starri replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Star Trek: Picard
In-universe, we’re in 2402 or 2403. The Dominion War ended in 2375, so it’s been the better part of three decades. -
S03.E03: Part Three - Seventeen Seconds

I am conditionally okay with the Jack reveal. There is a lot of squinting that’s necessary over the age issue, but I have to say, from a pure performance perspective, that may be the juiciest thing Gates ever got to do in the history of the franchise. I can see why she was so positive on the season. The unexpected Raffi/Worf buddy cop story may end up being my favorite part of the season. We’ll see how it unfolds. I adored him just calling her “Rafaela,” as I imagine few people get away with doing that. -
Counterbalance two threads (well, maybe three, since EEAOO is the big critical darling that the awards seem to be falling in behind): -Jamie Lee Curtis as a link to two Hollywood legends, given the nepo baby chatter. -Angela Bassett having had a fairly strong prior Best Actress nomination for What's Love Got to Do with It?

Well, if Picard, like Sisko, missed his shot that month... I ultimately don't think I have a problem with Picard and Beverly having a child, because I did always ship them a little, but they're going to really have to tapdance to make the timeline make sense.

She's absolutely channeling her father's performance as General Chang. And I am here for it.

I wonder if meeting his father has Jack considering the future of his hairline.

Well, we know Klingons age more slowly than humans. Kor, Kang, and Koloth were all still pretty intimidating after 100 years on DS9. I guess Terry Matalas is going to be hiring a lot of people from 12 Monkeys. I did not recognize Aaron Stanford at all as Sneed; I kept thinking it was perennial Trek guest star Clint Howard. I'm still chewing over the episode, although I do have two thoughts: 1) If Jack is Picard's son, I'm glad they didn't drag it out beyond the stinger at the end of the last episode and this one. 2) Amanda Plummer is a great villain. I also love symmetry that after her father was the last TOS villain, she's the last TNG one.

I did too. The Goddess of Thunder storyline from the comics was probably my favorite Thor I’ve ever read, and in the end, I think they did justice to it, even with her dying. It was Natalie Portman’s best turn by a country mile. Even my husband, who usually requires some kind of bribe to go to MCU movies, laughed at the screaming goats.

S03.E01: Part One - The Next Generation

Not only that, she’s Terry Matalas’ wife. So continuing the tradition of the producer’s spouse voicing the computer. She also appeared (uncredited) as a Vulcan in two Enterprise episodes. -
I missed this one Zach Galifianakis to Star in ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Live-Action Movie. On the one hand, great, another remake. On the other hand, it's being directed by Dean Fleischer Camp of Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, and that's kind of a perfect pairing for a story about a chosen family.

Season Three Spec & Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard
starri replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Star Trek: Picard
People have been harassing Terry Matalas on social media about rumors of Deanna dying, and he got fed up with it and said she and Riker will be fine. -
The View set turns into 10 Forward and Whoopi slings prune juice while she hosts a reunion with Stewart, Frakes, McFadden, and Dorn. For all of Whoopi's recent fauxpaux, it's still heartwarming to see how much being part of TNG meant to her.

Am I the only one who thinks Worf is Raffi's mysterious handler? -

She has the same name as one of his "All Good Things..." daughters, so I'd say there's a non-zero chance. It's 2402. So about a year after the "contemporary" parts of Season 2. -
S03.E01: Part One - The Next Generation
starri replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Star Trek: Picard
Actually, she had been. One of her first professional jobs was an episode of Enterprise more than 20 year ago. I also confess to having a lump in my throat when that came up. I want someone to a breakdown of all the stuff that appeared in the end titles. I saw engine schematics for a Romulus ship, a reference to a 10 Forward holodeck program (with the safeties off) and what I can only assume was a schematic of Data’s positronic brain. -
S03.E01: Part One - The Next Generation

I thought it was an excellent episode, but the thing that jumped out at me the most was the music. They used so many queues from other scores, and then going out on the First Contact theme hit me directly in the feels. -
If they're going to lean into the Green Lantern Corps Space Police history, they'd do better adapting NK Jemisin's Far Sector mini.

Even divorcing out the troubling things about Ezra Miller, I've always been very mixed on them as a performer. I thought they were gangbusters in We Need to Talk About Kevin and Perks of Being a Wallflower, but haven't liked them in much else. That said, I shamefully admit this trailer made me a lot more interested in the movie than I had been.
-
Yeah, that made me tear up. I'm not ready for this ride to end.

As stupid as it is, the Lwaxana half of that episode is actually the good part. -
It's a shame Wizards of the Coast just spent the last two weeks utterly stepping in it with their fanbase.

When a statuesque blonde woman is immediately identifiable as a Ferengi even without dialog, she's doing something very right. They set out to hire a set of boobs, and got a really great actress attached to them.

All in all, I'm pretty satisfied with the season. The nice thing is that the way it shook out, whether Cirie doing as she did or if Andie and Quentin had eliminated her and split the pot, the outcome would have been acceptable.

I loved that line. I really think he's an awesome host.
