  1. No, we’ve already seen Talos IV on Disco. Pike also got a psychic visit from Vina. I think there’s probably some question about how much of “The Cage” is actually canon to SNW. Clearly, the parts that were reused in “The Menagerie” were, but I can’t remember if Spock grinning at the singing plants was included in the latter. I know I’m in the minority, but as much as I like the canon, I’m okay with them not being hidebound by it, because I do ultimately find it limiting. As long as what they’re doing that contradicts it is interesting, I can dig it. And Ethan Peck has really done great with this.
  2. I quite enjoyed that. It wasn't anything revelatory, nor was it high art, but it had solid performances, the two guys had decent chemistry, and they didn't shy away from the queer sexuality.
  3. I mean, if they were going there, why not just have Dakota Johnson play Julia?
  4. I have to give props for the casting of Martin Quinn as Scotty. For one thing, he's actually from Scotland for a change. But an even bigger deal, I look at him and can definitely see him aging into being James Doohan.
  5. Weirdly, the set pics I’ve seen of Dakota Johnson have her wearing a similar costume to the one Julia wore during her period as Madame Web.
  6. That would be true even if the show was on broadcast. I’m just pointing out that there’s a lot of story between this episode (in 2259) and Pike being hurt (in 2266). If the powers that be grant it, there’s plenty of time.
  7. In universe, we’re still six or seven years out from the accident. Even if they keep with the 1 season = 1 year that prior shows had done, they’ve got plenty of time to fill.
  8. We're all Trekkies, there's always going to be some digression about other series, however, if the entirety of your post is about a show other than SNW, please take it to the appropriate thread. Thank you.
  9. Spock was using so much computer power investigating the fold, there wasn't enough left over to automatically route messages to their intended recipients. Kind of standard Trek plot device where technology always works except when the plot demands that it doesn't.
  10. I was 17, but I was painfully shy and basically hid from the world (and with a big helping of body dysmorphia). I had a long-term relationship, but I didn't truly come out of my shell until I was in my late 30s. And now, I watch shows like this in part because I know what it would have meant to me to have something like this when I was 15 (my option was only Ricky on My So-Called Life), and partly because I know my eyeballs that are attached to discretionary income help keep it around for today's 15-year-olds.
  11. This hasn't been the best summer for me health-wise (ironically, still better than last summer), so I missed this in the theater and was waiting for D+. Chosen Family stories are my personal Kryptonite, but even so, I was not expecting to be hit as deeply as this did. I teared up probably three or four times. Baby Rocket ("Hurts!") freaking broke me. I can't say this is my favorite of the three (I'm contrarian and prefer Volume 2 the best) but this had a much stronger finish that I would have thought was possible. It's been a good ride.
  12. That's consistent with "The Cage" though. Pike complains that it's burden being responsible for 203 lives.
  13. Also, I don’t believe animated series are currently struck. Like soap operas, they’re under a different contract.
  14. I know it can’t be helped, but Delenn really doesn’t sound much like Mira Furlan.
  15. She (or possibly M’Benga) did say that the fellowship is for 3 months.
  16. Given the combination of the underwhelming performances of so many movies this summer, as well as the effects of the strikes, I'm wondering if we might finally start to see a course correction in Hollywood. It's been a general trend for at least the last 60 years or so that the studio system breaks down every twenty years--which gave us New Hollywood in the late 60s and 70s, which lasted until about Star Wars, and then gave us the indie boom of the mid-to-late-90s. We're overdue for an implosion. I was thinking that too much power was concentrated in too few hands for it to really happen again, but pandemic + strikes + big box office misfires may have tipped the scales. I can't want to see what happens.
  17. I love Tori. That's the post.
  18. The soundtrack is available on at least Spotify and Apple Music now.
  19. I don't know if this is what the show wanted me to take away, but I am shipping Mr. Ajayi and Mr. Farouk hardcore.
  20. I can conclusively say that Paul Wesley is a better signing Kirk than Shatner.
  21. Man, Celia Rose Gooding has an incredible voice. I actually rewound to listen to their solo number a second time before continuing the episode.
  22. If you'd like to discuss TOS, you may do so here. Please keep this discussion on how SNW does or does not compare with the rest of Trek. Thank you.
  23. Damn, I was not expecting them to go for that level of emotion so soon into the season.
