Wow. I know a lot of people hate white privilege, but to say white collar criminals are the worst? So to you a woman who cheats and tries to get her kid into a good college is worst than Jeffrey Dahmer? White collar criminals are worse than serial killers or child molesters? Most criminals generally have some reason for doing what they did. Not all are horrible or irredeemable. Blanket generalities don’t really work in a complicated world. This woman was literally punished for what she did. She went to jail and, I believe, paid a fine. I don’t care if it was some swanky, rich prison. She was punished for the crime she committed. You may not consider not doing what you love a punishment, but many do. I know in this day and age of cancel culture and social media mobs thinking they have the right to pass sentence on people, but that’s not the way it works. If, as an individual, you want to hate and judge her and not watch anything she does, that’s your right. Just like it’s the right of any casting director/production not to hire her. But it’s not anyone’s right to ban her from working permanently at any job she wants. You don’t know her, yet for some reason you’ve decided she’s the scum of the Earth and has no remorse. Just because she tried to get her kid into the college she wanted doesn’t mean she valued money and power above everything. And she did lose money and status. Like I said, there’s the fine she paid and the lost work over these last few years. The internet is forever and she’ll never have the same reputation again. She deserves that, but not being shunned forever for a white collar crime she actually did her time for.

S49.E04: Timothée Chalamet / boygenius
FilmTVGeek80 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
Overall, I thought the episode was mostly meh, especially compared to his first hosting gig. There were several sketches in that first ep that I thought were genuinely funny and rewatchable - whereas in this ep, other than maybe the first sketch, I don't really have any desire to see any of them again. I get that some fans just enjoy watching Timmy sing anything, but the appeal of Tiny Horse completely escapes me. But kudos to him for having a popular enough sketch (two even since the character in the rap sketch was from his first ep, too) that they wanted to reprise it. The gym sketch could have been good, but wasn't. One joke sketches can be funny (like the Kieran Culkin cable company sketch) but this just felt tired. It's funny, because in many ways he seemed more poised and confident as a host - especially in the monologue, but he was able to keep it together much more last time. Last time, he broke a couple of times in a couple of sketches, but this time he broke several times in almost every sketch that wasn't pre-recorded. Sometimes I enjoy when the hosts/cast break, especially when I understand why, but sometimes he would start to smile/laugh for no obvious reason. Sometimes it was funny, but mostly I found it distracting. -
So because she committed a non-violent crime and then served her time she should be punished for the rest of her life? Her getting to work again is not about "celebrating" her. She has a right to work in her chosen profession as anyone else.

I think my favorite line of his is from TOW the List - "Oh, no two women love me! They're both gorgeous and sexy! My wallet's too small for my fifties, and my diamond shoes are too tight!" I watched some Friends lists on YouTube, and another of my favorite lines of his was shown often - "You have to stop the Q-tip when there's resistance." Despite how many times I saw it yesterday when I watched the episode (TOW Ross's New Girlfriend) today, I still cracked up. The line delivery is fantastic, but the topper of him miming removing the Q-tip and then holstering it in his pocket gets me.

What does that have to do with it? Rachel wasn’t just a long-time love, but a long-time friend. That he had difficulty cutting her out of his life, didn’t mean he didn’t love Emily. It wasn’t an everlasting love and I think their engagment was ridiculously rushed, but I do think he loved her. I wouldn’t wish either one on anyone else, but for different reasons.
-
The situations may seem similar, but they’re not. The situation with Rachel was clearly about trying to stake his claim and wasn’t coming from a genuine place of love. With Emily, it was different. He’d screwed up royally and was trying to express his love and remorse. It wasn’t about attention or ownership or trying to control her. Also, I find it hard to call something a “signature move” when it was only done twice.
-
“Weakening with sentimentality.” According to that definition everyone throughout the history of time who has tried to apologize for wrongdoing or sent gifts is “love bombing.” The floral industry would probably suffer major losses if people who messed up stopped sending people flowers. How could you tell that Emily’s resolve wavered when she sent the flowers back in pieces & called to tell him it wasn’t working? And if she was moved by the gifts? And? If Ross’s speech caused her to resolve to waver, so what. He made a persuasive argument. There’s nothing wrong with that and it certainly doesn’t mean Emily had no choice in the matter. She wasn’t tricked or lied to. Love bombing is a form of emotional abuse and control. Ross wasn’t trying to control her. If anyone in that scenario was trying to control anyone, it was Emily.

Chloe shipping Parker off bothers me more than all of the other “absentee” parents on this show. People like Nicole get a lot of flack for not being around their kids enough, but I give most of the characters slack because I know this is just how soaps are with most kid characters (out of sight, out of mind) but with Chloe we know he is truly out of sight and barely on her mind. She is barely bothering to raise him and there’s no real reason for that. It doesn’t really matter that his past crimes are worse than the Susan mess (though it seems clear now they had Sarah concentrate so much on the Susan aspect so that Susan being being alive means ‘ok, bygones problems solved.’) Sarah did not forgive Xander’s past behavior and then go ‘Please continue being a sociopath and lie to me some more.’ Xander had assured her that he had changed, but after a little bit of struggle he resorted to form. Not only did he go back to committing crimes, but he lied to Sarah repeatedly. And not just lied, he basically gaslit her. Sarah was smart enough - and knew him well enough - to put together what he was up to. Despite his actions being horrible, if he had just been honest with her when she confronted him, she probably would have easily (too easily) forgiven him. Instead, he made her feel like an idiot and disloyal for daring to question him. And somehow Sarah’s the villain here and Xander’s the victim? Yeah, it sucks she’s on baby lie number two, but her reasons for lying to Xander make a hell of a lot more sense than her reasons for lying to Eric. I’ve always hated the Xander/Sarah pairing (don’t really see the chemistry.) Despite my dislike of Xander, I do think he and Chloe have a lot of chemistry and a fun dynamic. BUT, I still think she’s too good for him. And I think the only reason she’s willing to put up with him & his past, is she hasn’t been through the same things as Sarah. Yeah, Xander left her with a Mexican druglord, but like Sarah before her, Xander has convinced her he’s changed. I think if she had been in a relationship with him and constantly lied to, she wouldn’t be as forgiving. I think Theresa, the other day, nailed who he is at his core. He’s “good” as long as things are going okay. When they’re not, who he really is inevitably comes out.

Ross being around Rachel wasn’t Emily’s wake-up call. It was Ross pointing out that she can’t know where he is at all times and if she couldn’t trust him at all, then they weren’t going to work. That seemed like more of a mutual ending then Emily breaking it off. And Ross did not love bomb. It takes more than just sending a lot of gifts for that to be accurate. Ross didn’t hypnotize her or force her to take him back. That was her decision. And let’s be real, the only reason they had Emily go through with the wedding was because the writers needed something to keep Ross & Rachel a part since they had the asinine idea that they couldn’t reunite until the last second. Well, the good for Rachel would have been if he had changed his mind. Intent means a lot, but it’s not everything. What you ultimately do matters more IMO. Like, let’s say I’m thinking of cheating on my spouse. Just thinking about it isn’t necessarily wrong. But if I take the extra step and plan a rendezvous with someone else, then it is. But if I change my mind and don’t go through with it, I think that matters more, especially if I change my mind because I realize how wrong it is and not because I get caught. And, no, it’s not true they only wanted to be together when they were with other people.
-
It’s still not Rachel’s fault. Yeah, Ross saw her, but she still could have gone through with her plan, but she CHOSE not to. And, what normal person who’s in love with someone wouldn’t question what that person saying their name at the altar meant. She still didn’t go after Ross then. His saying her name isn’t her fault. Late or not, she was still an invited guest. No, we’ll never know if he would have said her name under different circumstances, but I doubt it would have made a difference. There’s no way he would have said Phoebe’s name if she had showed up unexpectedly. I think him saying Rachel’s name was his subconscious giving him a clue that he wasn’t ready to marry Emily, no matter how much he had convinced himself he was. Of course the others all knew about Rachel’s feelings for Ross. None of them thought Emily was crazy about that. But they did have an issue with her trying to control every aspect of Ross’s life. They were going to respect Ross’s decision until Emily made the other crazy demands. Also, they were Ross and Rachel’s friends. They didn’t have any obligations to Emily or to be happy with their group dynamic changing, making their lives more difficult.

How is Sarah acting like a saint of perfection? This isn’t Sarah and Xander’s first time at the “he lies horribly to her face” dance. She already forgave him for lying to her about her DEAD BABY! When is it okay for Sarah to decide that enough is enough and she doesn’t want to deal with Xander’s lies anymore? It’s really telling to me how I see so many comments about how unlikeable Sarah is for trying to protect her baby from a criminal while said criminal mostly gets a pass because he’s “charming.” I think creating a list of the people Melinda DOESN’T dislike strongly would be far shorter than of those she likes or gives a pass to. Given that Kristen killed her daughter she’s expressed hatred for her. I’m also pretty sure she’s not a fan of Xander or Gwen either. EJ is not the only character she’s expressed a dislike for. And Talia’s crimes in no way compare to EJ’s. She drugged some baked goods while EJ’s a RAPIST. Talia also didn’t get away with her crime. Just because she didn’t go to prison doesn’t mean she got away scot-free, unlike EJ who only went to prison once for the rare crime he didn’t commit.

That was an implied action. It's not like we actually saw his head in his crotch. There was a similar scene not that long ago where Gwen was also implied to give Dimitri oral sex. We didn't see her down on her knees, but she was clearly going lower and lower under the sheets and out of frame. Most of us who watch are adults. There's no reason to keep things so PG. Two glaring moments from today's episode where I felt the writers completely dropped the ball - either because they completely forgot the show's history or because they didn't want to point out the obvious. First was Maggie and her continued rampant hypocrisy. Maggie: Rex is unreliable! Now, let me wax poetic about your thug ex-husband who enjoys lying to you, threatening rape, and kidnapping women in his spare time! Sarah did counter a lot of Maggie's arguments, but it was glaring that she didn't call Maggie on insisting Rex was unreliable while trying to push her to get back with a man like Xander. The second glaring omission was when Xander and Chloe were discussing whether Sarah could lie to him about the baby and Xander - with a straight face said Sarah would never do that. Chloe gave him a great "bitch, please" look, but she didn't actually follow it up with the most sensical response which is that Sarah has already lied about a pregnancy. Speaking of that pregnancy lie, why didn't Maggie point that out to Sarah (instead of droning on and on about the magic of Sarah and Xander's love?) Point out that she's already had one baby lie blow up in her face. Another moment that stood out to me - badly - was Sarah referring to Victor as the love of Maggie's life (and Maggie agreeing.) Victor's her second dead husband. There's no need to try and qualify everyone's partner as "the love of their life."
-
For a time, Rachel actually was a good kid - onscreen and off. Then Kristen came back into her life. She started filling Rachel's mind with all this junk about Brady and Kristen getting back together and making Rachel think Chloe was evil. So, it's very doubtful Kristen will somehow be some calming presence on this kid and make her normal.
-
I get not trusting the writers, but how is dying in a plane crash "damaging?" Unless they're going to pin the plane crash on Victor. Dying in a plane crash doesn't mean his death won't be touching. IMO, how his death is handled is more about how it affects those who loved him. His loved ones will mourn his death, whether he died in a plane crash or in his sleep.

Right because being invited to one film festival means you haven’t been punished in other ways. And, Polanski aside (because he is a convicted rapist) why shouldn’t the other two be invited? I’m glad these international festivals are not buying into this BS where people need to be punished for accusations. Disappointed? Because she’s automatically guilty?
-
The custody case was typical ridonkulous Days BS. The last Kristen/Brady custody trial was also epically stupid (with a better outcome.) But it was insane how that judge refused to consider Kristen’s past crimes because she was pardoned and had to literally see her attempt murder not to give her custody. This judge was even worse. Again, somehow Kristen getting a pardon meant she couldn’t even consider her “unsettling” crimes yet she had no problem using things Brady wasn’t even charged with against him. And wouldn’t the previous judge have made note that Kristen lost custody because she attacked Brady’s then girlfriend with scissors? Even if she thought Brady was unfit, the more rational solution would be to either put Rachel in foster care or give her to relatives, not hand her off to her rapist, often incarcerated mother. Kristen seemed too surprised to be called into court to have bribed the judge herself, but I was hoping we’d see a scene of Megan or someone else talking to the judge. The only saving grace of this will be if Kristen/Rachel move away like Theresa/Tate did. But as much as I can’t stand Rachel, I’d hate even more to see Kristen get a win. Another acceptable outcome, IMO, is if being around Kristen more makes the scales fall from Rachel’s eyes and she sees who her mother really is. Either that or Kristen realizes what a demon her daughter is and demands Brady take custody back.

💯 She has no reason to shut up because she hasn't even said anything. I have no idea why people take sources like the NY Post & the Daily Mail at their word. Yes, they get things right occasionally, but mostly they're tabloid trash. I also don't really see what the big deal is that he is supposedly going to die in a plane crash. It's not an embarrassing way to die. It doesn't seem particularly salacious or disrespectful (even if the JA being afraid of flying thing is true.)

THIS!!!! I was just coming here to post about this. I know some will excuse it as Maggie's love for Xander because he saved her life, but it's still ridiculous. She can't forgive Rex for cheating on Sarah, but she can forgive Xander for lying to Sarah about her DEAD CHILD. On top of all the lies, he told her about his various crimes, including making Sarah feel like an asshole for questioning him about those crimes. Oh, and shut up, Bonnie. The show is trying way too hard to show that she's turned over a new leaf with this BS that she can't lie convincingly to Xander, and that's it tearing her up so much to lie to him. I was getting serious deja vu with Gabi and Stefan's scenes. Didn't they just have this EXACT conversation during their last episode together - about doing things together as a team? They seriously have nothing else left for them to do or talk about.

75th Emmy Awards (2024)
FilmTVGeek80 replied to ProudMary's topic in The Primetime Emmy Awards (Emmys)
THIS! I just watched the first season last week - and like you, I did enjoy it - but I honestly could not stop wondering how this qualifies as a comedy. The only qualification seems to be the fact that most of the episodes are half an hour or less. Yes, there are amusing moments throughout, but that does not make it a comedy. It feels like absolute category fraud. And, yeah, my jaw hit the floor when I saw Bernthal's nomination. None of the articles with Emmy predictions predicted he would get nominated which is totally understandable. He's basically on-screen to give a face to a character you hear a lot about, but he doesn't do much at all. -
From how NLG described it on her Twitter feed yesterday, daytime actors will not be included in the strike if it happens at the end of the month. Daytime actors are not part of the deal that's set to expire. Actors would be violating their contracts if they didn't continue to go to work.

What erylin said makes perfect sense, and I'm not sure why there should be an exemption in sexual assault cases no matter how few get prosecuted. It's still innocent until proven guilty. And if a member of the public decides they're guilty merely based on an accusation alone and doesn't want to watch their movies, etc. so be it. The problem is lately there's a mob mentality where people have decided that because they think someone is guilty that person shouldn't be allowed to work PERIOD. People should not get to make that decision for the masses.

I’m getting the impression that some people think the actor who plays Paxton looks old or something. The obsession with his crows feet or “wrinkles” is a little much. I think he looks fine…more than fine and I could care less that he’s a lot older than the actress playing Devi. The actress is an adult and if she wanted to date him in real life she could because there’s nothing morally or legally wrong with it. I’m definitely rooting for Paxton/Devi. I think the actors/characters sparkle together a lot more than Ben/Devi. I think Ben/Devi have good friendship chemistry and that’s it. I also don’t think it matters that Ben & Devi have more in common. There’s a reason the saying “opposites attract” exists. Couples don’t have to be carbon copies of each other to work. I also like Paxton’s personality more than Ben’s. Neither are perfect and that’s fine. I like that Paxton likes normal, stupid teenage boy stuff - like blowing shit up - but also has depth to him in the way he relates to his sister and grandfather and is starting to care about doing better in school. I like that the show hasn’t magically erased his faults - same Devi. He didn’t instantly start doing better academically. He’s trying to get over it, but can’t help feeling self-conscious about what other people think. I like Ben a little more after his standalone episode, but I’ve still never forgotten about his treatment of Devi at the start of the show and the unfuckable nerds nickname. I also hate the David nickname. I’d rather Devi end up alone or with someone else other than Ben.

I have no sympathy for Colin and understand why Paulina doesn't either. Was covering up for Chanel - especially considering it was self-defense - the right thing to do? No. But she didn't murder anyone either. What Paulina did is no excuse for Colin drugging an entire town and certainly not for his attempt to kill Abe, Paulina, or Chanel. He doesn't have to support her because his sister has also done questionable things. Abe is like family to him, and Colin tried to kill him. I have never understood this type of reasoning when it comes to baby secrets. "It's not my secret to tell." Who cares. You should not keep a secret like that from someone you claim to love/care about. It was the same when Nicole kept Sarah's pregnancy a secret. And he has every right to be pissed at her since he specifically just asked her not to keep secrets from him. The Deimos secret has absolutely nothing to do with Sloane. Now that is actually a situation where it's not his secret to tell applies. Sloane didn't know Deimos and his death doesn't affect her in any way, shape, or form.
-
The show hasn’t specified how far along she is, but it’s probably a month or two. I don’t think she’s going to be showing noticeably anytime soon. Plus, she’s not planning on keeping the secret indefinitely. I wouldn’t call it blabbing to Kayla, since Kayla’s her doctor and is bound by doctor/patient confidentiality anyway. And she decided to share with Anna because she needed someone to talk to and for some reason the show had it be Anna instead of someone like Chloe.
-
They got back together - I’m not sure how long they’d been back together - before she was dying. They got married because she was dying, but they were already reunited and in love. I think, the show, wanted the story to be more evenly matched. Instead of two husbands afraid for their wives and one guy worried about his girlfriend, or even his fiancée, all the couples were married. So, they married off Kate and Roman. But, I do think the plan - for now at least - is to keep them together. It’s clear Kate doesn’t regret the marriage given how desperate she was to get her rings back. I like them together. I like John and Marlena together. I really love that the show doesn’t pretend the older couples are sexless and still show them desiring each other. But, I do think they have vastly overplayed the strawberries and cream thing. I groaned when John brought them out. I’m not sure how she’s acting like a teenager. I think the show has done a great job in Nicole’s last two appearances in really highlighting what should be Nicole’s main concern - the viability of the pregnancy - rather than the sole focus being the WTD angle. I thought the scenes between her and Anna today were great. Nicole’s fear was palpable. Anna trying to reassure her and looking out for her was sweet. Unlike her lying to EJ about sleeping with Eric, I get why she doesn’t want to tell either guy yet. Not only is she still processing the news herself, but she doesn’t know if there’s any point without knowing how viable the pregnancy is. Wouldn’t Megan have used that as a bargaining chip with Bo when she was desperate to keep him from leaving? Also, I think there’s more than enough drama with him being a new DiMera. Sure him being Bo’s would add more, but there’s enough story without that angle.
