  1. OMG, I remember almost throwing the remote at the TV when she responded to his crap by inviting him to buy her drink and walking off chatting and laughing with him rather than by punching him in the nuts and walking away. Looking back, I'm kind of surprised I kept watching the show; two episodes in and they choose to give me a man who, after a woman ignores his calls, tracks her down and makes a public scene, follows her after she tells him to stay away from her, casually starts bragging about his day, tells her she needs saving, and after she tells him he humiliated and scared her, he shrugs, "I guess that's just the way it goes"?!
  2. The show treating Josh like he's wonderful in that scene drives me crazy in the same way Sports Night treats Dan like he's wonderful in the episode with the homeless man in the building -- Charlie just wants a job with a schedule and pay that lets him help take care of his sister, and Josh ignores that to play savior, strong-arming him a job that doesn't pay much more (and pays less if you look at it on a per hour basis) and has a schedule completely unconducive to his goal. The homeless man is just looking for a place to avoid starving or freezing to death for one night, but Dan is too busy glorifying people with the money to climb Mt. Everest for fun to give this man any practical help. It's the typical tone deafness of Aaron Sorkin.
  3. Here are the updates: May 6-12: Amazon May 20-26: Walmart June 3-9: Target June 24-30: McDonalds Everything I saw about Friday's boycott was targeted at corporations, with small businesses specifically excluded. But I think somewhere along the way it started being discussed as a "Don't buy anything anywhere" boycott instead.
  4. And USAID’s acting assistant administrator for global health has been put on leave for trying to do his job and documenting what is happening -- he wrote a memo stating that, despite a promise of waivers by Marco Rubio, the administration has failed to protect programs that deliver lifesaving assistance, which will "no doubt result in preventable death, destabilization, and threats to national security on a massive scale.” CBS News On the flip side, one of the crytpo bros with a civil fraud case pending against him by the SEC had that case halted after he bought $75 million of World Liberty Tokens (75% of the revenue goes to the Trump family). 5. Yeah, they talked about that in the bracket reveal special and summarized it at the top of this one, but never got into how the chefs were divided up into these new non-geographic groups. Just that so it's not largely the same group of chefs competing against each other again and again, they're no longer doing East vs. West. They're instead starting with groups A, B, C, and D, eight chefs each; we saw the four match-ups between Group A tonight and will proceed accordingly.
  6. Rocco vs. Tim - I don't much care for flank steak, so I didn't get excited by either dish, but I would have been happy to try both, especially the curry. But I would have knocked off quite a few randomizer points for not meeting the "breaded" requirement very well, so I was glad Alex said something and that's indeed how it wound up. I thought Wolfgang Puck's "I like heat and this isn't hot" criticism of Rocco's and "Finally something hot" about Tim's was bullshit; heat wasn't part of the challenge. In the judges' chat with Simon, he said something more along the lines of the pineapple would have been better with heat, and that I can readily agree with. Casey vs. Kevin - I have never done anything with a portobello steam other than use it to make stock (I use it in both chicken and vegetable stock), so seeing Casey pickle it was interesting even though it wasn't unanimously successful. I thought the color of Kevin's mushroom gravy was unappetizing, so I was surprised none of the judges apparently felt the same. I'm with Alex on questioning both dishes on being creamy style. And I'm bummed for Casey. Adam vs. Adriana - "Four fantastic ideas not having a conversation with each other" was a nice way of saying it. Each component sounded very tasty, but it looked completely amateur all together, nothing like ToC. I was really impressed with her in the qualifying round and he bugged me last time, so that completely bummed me out. Antonia vs. Maria - I hate that these two went up against each other first thing, as I wanted Maria to progress yet want Antonia to finally win the whole thing, so had to root for Maria to lose. Heart breaker. On a shallow note, I love Tiffani's glasses.
  7. Yeah, I think what we saw in "Claws" is probably what has been Matty and Edwin's MO in addressing this with Alfie all along: Ellie was an addict. She fought, which means she quit multiple times, but addiction means you can get it right 99 times, but when you slip the 100th, you have to start the fight all over, so she continued to struggle after he came along, even though she loved him more than anything. If he knows they took custody right before Ellie died, rather than thinking they got it because she died, I don't know; I suspect not. If they've told him the timing, though, I imagine they've skipped details, just saying she was going through another rough patch and it was better he be with them at the time, and then unfortunately she overdosed before she could get herself in a place to regain custody.
  8. Yeah, all the mistakes other people have made/are making in this story don't negate that the manufacturers knew the drugs are highly addictive, yet marketed them as safe and effective, particularly downplaying the risk of long-term use, leading to widespread prescription, and widespread addiction, leading to a staggering number of overdoses -- while heroin and illicitly manufactured fentanyl account for an increasing proportion of opioid-involved overdoses, the majority of people with opioid addiction started with prescribed painkillers (and this was especially true back when Ellie became addicted [we do not yet know if that was the case with her]). And, if the allegation on Reddit is correct, the firm hid documents that would have exposed the details of Wellbrexa's knowledge, which could have yanked the drug off the market. That's an if, and an even bigger could. There are a lot of factors here, and Ellie's, Edwin's, and Matty's actions are fair game for scrutiny. But to dismiss Wellbrexa as some boogeyman they're inappropriately targeting is ridiculous. Ellie shouldn't have done this, Matty and Edwin shouldn't have done that, maybe a doctor (if applicable) shouldn't have done something -- those may all be true, but manufacturers, having all knowledge of the risk and lying about it, started this devastating ball rolling and made big bucks off it. Shrugging that off to focus on individuals caught up in this disaster ignores reality.
  9. Looking her up (as I'd never heard of her), I confirmed my assumption Sherry Cola is a chosen, not given, name so I don't have to wonder what the hell her parents were thinking. Sherry is real, Cola is not, and "Sherry Cola" started when picking a name to leave Yelp reviews, became a general social media name, and then her stand-up comedy name (since there are a lot of nicknames in comedy) and stuck as her stage name. I've never seen her in anything. I didn't recognize Sean Gunn's name, either, and, checking his credits, the only thing I've seen him in was an episode of Any Day Now -- but, since his role was "clerk" I quite understandably do not recognize him. D'Arcy Carden, on the other hand, I greatly enjoyed as Janet on The Good Place and then Greta on the tragically short-lived streaming series A League of Their Own.
  10. The entirety of Parenthood is a lesson in how not to parent (Jasmine and Crosby weren't on the same level, which is why theirs was the only household not ruled by the kids), yet the show didn't know it. I think I only made it through two seasons -- it was just a weekly collection of "Oh, HELL no!" moments.
  11. I refer to people by their actual names unless I have personal knowledge they prefer something else, or have used another name interchangeably. I have no exception for "unless they're a woman who married a man [even though in the nearly 35 years since the wedding she never changed her name]". I would no more call Betsy Arakawa "Mrs. Hackman" than I'd call Gene Hackman "Mr. Arakawa" based solely on the existence of the marriage; her name was her name, period, and here there's the additional fact she wasn't "just" his wife, she had her own career so her name was publicly known [in certain circles, nowhere near as widely as his] professionally as well as personally. And, with that, I'll step away from this flogged horse.
  12. I don't use social media, and if there's anyone I am no longer in touch with because that method of communication isn't an option for them, they're not springing to mind -- and I obviously don't miss them.
  13. I cook every day. I have linoleum in the kitchen (with tile in the bathroom and hardwood everywhere else) and will replace it with tile when I renovate my kitchen. But I know a few home cooks with hardwood floors in the kitchen because they wanted the same flooring throughout the entire house. So it doesn't work to assume she doesn't cook just based on that.
  14. I don't watch a ton of movies with romance as the main plot, partly because they're so often sexist, but that is a fantastically feminist movie.
  15. This is now available on Prime. I poked around last night and it's the same version Hulu has (no scenes missing, but with some replacement music).
  16. You don't have to do that in NY. But, yes, it does have a paranormal activity rule, which is limited:
  17. Her name was Betsy Arakawa.
  18. He has backtracked: Speaking of backtracking:
  19. The Daily Best shares some quotes from Russian media: And apparently, even though the White House said Tass wasn't in the press pool, the entire thing was live streamed in Russia.
  20. I saw it in October (I missed it when it aired here, and it took me a while to find it on the PBS app). I enjoyed it a lot, but I wish they'd had bloopers like the 20th anniversary special -- those always make me laugh.
  21. I watched with friends so didn't keep track, but none of us had the slightest idea for FJ. The only person Wisconsin brought to mind was Jeffrey Dahmer and that obviously wasn't it. We were also unanimous in yelling at the TV when none of these guys knew childless cat lady.
  22. Well, when Starmer met with Trump yesterday, it was with a letter from King Charles in hand, inviting Trump to a state visit, so ...
  23. Only through a spokesperson:
  24. It is; that's what he posted on Facebook in August. (I didn't know until seeing the post here that he's battling cancer, so did a search and his Facebook post came up.)
  25. Oh, I see what you're saying, that what she switched his with was her card, not a replacement Alfie had somehow created. That would make much more sense, but, then, yeah, as you noted, it means she has to switch back now (especially if his card gives access to places hers doesn't). No, at least not that we've seen. When she is in the security office (where her info is already up on the guy's computer well before he scans her card, which bugs me), we see the side they scan is all black, and the other side just has the firm's name on it. But it looks like some sort of pouch, so it's possible there's more inside.
