  1. The show has finally started showing on the LAFF channel, four different eps a night! I've just watched two from Season One from 8-9 PM Eastern, and Two from Season Seven (I think) are coming up soon at 10-11 PM. I haven't seen this show in so long. An ep with John Astin as Harry's father Buddy is coming up! I do agree that Dan and Christine had the chemistry, even with his flaws he respected her.
  2. Sorry if this is a little OT, but New Year's eve and day are always big for special holiday marathons and The Odd Couple is being marathon-ed from now until about 5 PM eastern on Channel 55 WLNY in the New York area. What a classic show, we were so lucky to have Tony Randall and Jack Klugman starring in it for five years.

    LAFF

Good news, I just saw online that LAFF will begin showing Night Court the evening of January 4, Monday. It's scheduled for 2 shows from 8-9 pm Eastern and another 2 I think from 10-11 pm. I'll have to check now to see if I'm getting the station in HD over Channel 7-3 in New York (last time I looked it appeared to be SD).
  4. If these shows are from the 1960s, I wonder if they were just junked by the network who saw no future value in keeping them around? After all there was no VCR or DVR back then, and I read that Johnny Carson and Soupy Sales, for example, had a great number of their shows of that era sadly trashed without their knowledge.
  5. I tried Sling twice, once when it first came out and later when they added TCM but canceled both times and went back to adding more cable channels instead, reluctantly. I realized that I could get TCM added to my Time Warner account for less than I was paying Sling, and Sling won't let you record channels like TCM or watch them on demand. I've played with going all the way down to "starter" cable at times (since there are some over the air channels I don't get well) but even then I would pay over $70 a month with internet (no phone, I use two cell phone plans, one very basic, now for my two numbers, which saves over using a landline). I keep Netflix and Hulu Plus though I would mainly watch them when I'm out of town on my Ipad or something. I did upgrade to commercial free Hulu Plus for about $12 a month and it's kind of fun binge-ing a show with no commercials at all. I did it with a few episodes of American Greed (I have a kind of train wreck fascination for that show) one night when I couldn't find anything else to watch.
  6. Not sure when this happened but MeTV has added some classic sitcoms to their late Sunday night schedule - including The Odd Couple, Bob Newhart, even (if you want to DVR it at 2 AM) Get Smart.
  7. I interpreted the article as complimentary based on the subtitle "At the moment Bruce Springsteen is on Fallon, here's the brilliant but bizarre bit done by Colbert" and the "another great bit" reference below, but I can see where the headline doesn't help matters. There's been so much rating obsession lately mainly about "the demo" (and Stephen's overall numbers are better than that it appears) that I thought it was interesting that the article seemed to mainly focus on the content of the clips. It does end abruptly though like a lot of these pieces seem to do.
  8. Interesting article on Salon in regard to last night's show: http://www.salon.com/2015/12/18/this_is_why_stephen_colbert_keeps_losing_to_jimmy_fallon/
  9. I worked for a number of years on and off with a French woman, and noticed that she and other real French people say "oh la la" not "ooh la la" as TV would have you believe.
  10. Well New York City is about 15 degrees above normal currently, so maybe the producers looked at a long-term forecast :)
  11. Was I not paying attention, or did they not introduce the building owner before they brought him in for questioning about the crime? I thought it was . I was also very glad to see Alfredo back and that his relationship with Sherlock will continue in some form even if Sherlock finds another sponsor. I like the way Sherlock is showing more sensitivity to Alfredo as he did to Joan in the opening episode when he thinks he is finished with the NYPD and tries to save her job there.
  12. I enjoyed the increased real or seeming spontaneity of this episode, from Stephen telling Jimmy to keep rollling after flubbing in the opening segment, to setting up the Reese's segment only to interrupt it to go out and change the dead light bulb, to the appearance of "ghost" Brian Stack (and is the female ghost his new female writer?). I also didn't know anything about Adam McKay and his improv Chicago background and it was amusing that Stephen had his old show ad from the 90s. I think that kind of loosening up is the kind of thing the audience will enjoy.
  13. Agree that was a great interview. It really gave me an insight into writing especially short story writing. I'm glad Stephen is keeping the bedtime story sketch as a way of integrating the authors into the performance of the show, and helping them do what they do best.
  14. Also in Slate, an interesting article on Stephen's recurring late night bits. They left out the "bedtime story" with guest authors; I thought about it after there was another one with writer George Saunders tonight.
  15. Thanks for the heads up, I didn't realize until CBS ran the ad tonight that the show is this week. I got confused because they were pre-empted for football last week and some shows are on reruns this week.
  16. I wonder if they will bring back the actor who played young Ducky last time? He was excellent.
  17. I didn't hear any mention of the new baby either, however I thought Christina seemed a little less animated than usual, which is not surprising if they filmed not long after she gave birth. Great to have Izzy back. I loved his deadpan delivery of "you already paid for this?" ETA: I just looked at their facebook page, apparently the current shows were filmed well before the baby was born.
  18. I haven't watched the brothers in awhile but I turned on the ranch show since it was new. It amused me that they seemed to be going out of their way not to mention that they were in Canada. Finally I saw the moving company with boxes showing a maple leaf icon on them. Ha! Also the accents of the inspectors gave it away. Still the family get togethers with their parents are cute.
  19. I just watched two late episodes tonight that I recorded maybe last week on ION: "Strike" and "Personae Non Grata". Especially in the second one Linus Roache is so brilliant as Cutter. When L & O ended I was really sorry that more fans hadn't come to realize how good he was (at least that was what I felt).
  20. I really liked this episode also, I'm a sucker for cold case stories and this one didn't disappoint. I didn't expect all the flashbacks but they were really well directed and acted by the cast (nice to also have Loretta appear). It really is stunning to realize that it's been 10 years already since Katrina.
  21. I guess you could say this about any type of show, but hosts like Carson and Letterman and even Conan were probably lucky to start out in the pre-internet era, and to be given time to get into the swing of things. I do think that Stephen is finding a balance with the interviews, and doesn't have an issue going from sillier to more serious segments or vice versa, which is fine with me for one. It probably takes time for him and also for the writers to figure out what works and what doesn't in a new show, but I think they are getting there. Personally, I have no problem at all with him using all his talents. CBS seems to be still acting supportive, I've just read that Stephen will be hosting the Kennedy Center honors again for them next month.
  22. I just loved "Stephen Colbert will be unable to find his fortune cookie prop" "And then he will find it moments later". Ha. I guess it would be easy to lose a fortune cookie in the dark like that.
  23. thanks chrissiegal, I'll do an online search for the show.
  24. So is Sara Moulton still making new shows for Create? I normally watch the network in the early evening (dinner time, naturally) and I never see her show anymore. I think it's listed in the early morning but if it's still current I wonder why it's not on at a better time?
