Props to both comments. A lot of the younger viewers probably don't remember Laura as the ORIGINAL bad-ass, ride-or-die girl. As many times as Luke threatened to kill Helena, Laura was the one to actually do the deed (until Hells came back one last time before Nikolas finally pulled the old bat's plug). We actually do need to see Laura do some Mayoral stuff though. In the brief glimpses we've seem so far she's actually appeared to be quite capable.

It really doesn't need to be any more complicated than that in a modern, industrialized society, IMHO. I'm glad that GH has decided to tackle the health care affordability issue. However, as another poster pointed out, it really doesn't make sense with Jordan, a Police Commissioner with I'm guessing a high five-figure or low six-figure salary.

I've said it before and now it's truer than ever: Kara's secret ID is a joke. Think about all the "non-super friends" who must know her true identity. Kat Grant is a friend, no threat there. But Lex knows (and by association Eve must know as well). Russian Supergirl knows. Lillian Luthor knows. Manchester Black plucked the Fortress of Solitude's location from J'onn's mind, you know it didn't stop there. He likely knew Kara and Clark's real ID - if so, did he tell the rest of the Elite? The Snake Lady certainly seemed to know. The crazy guy that worshiped Kryptonians (is he still alive?) knows. Even if you pull out the now-deceased Manchester and make the bold assumption that the rest of the Elite doesn't know, that's still a small village of people, folks. Having said that, possibly the best episode of the series, absenting the "young Alex and Kara" one. Even the small story flaws (which are not going away) were tolerable with enough suspension of belief.

I'm a man so the "good looking guy" thing escapes me. I saw the actor on a Hallmark romance movie awhile back and thought, "he's SO not a romantic lead." Different strokes, I guess. Plus, Valentine is the lamest Cassadine ever. None of Stefan's intellect or charm. None of Stavros' single-minded, malevolent obsession. Damn, even Alexis is more intimidating. I look forward to his character leaving the canvass soon as well, although it probably won't happen.

I'm usually more of an Alex-in-jeans guy, but I'll agree with you both. Melissa is a cutie, but Alex has that killer hour-glass figure going on.

I'm fairly certain now that Manchester was/is the DCU's iteration of a mutant. In his first appearance there was a slight hint that he was a low-level telekinetic. Kinda sad to see Manchester go. Interesting character with charisma and a lot of potential. His agenda got really muddy, though. To me there was no way of telling what his long game actually was, it never really made sense. In a way Manchester was SG's most formidable foe, he deserved to hang around a while longer IMO. One thing that really bugs is how the writers are time-releasing his backstory. Brainy's one line about Mon-El being dismissive of him was delivered with subtle intensity; you can tell that he's still holding a grudge. I'm hoping we get a Brainy stand-alone episode soon. Well two seasons ago Superman did say J'onn was the most powerful being on the planet. Makes sense because he has so many impressive powers (invisibility, shape shifting, and intangibility) that Kara and Kal-El don't have. He just fails to use them effectively. I'm really curious as to what the staff does, don't remember him having one in the comics, but then I stopped reading DC books 20 years ago.

I've resigned myself to the reality that the writers are just screwing with us as far as Kara's secret ID is concerned. Yep, that makes a whole lot of sense. I wonder what kind of powers James will have. The maddening thing about SG is that its always so close to being a good superhero show, but the showrunners are never able to close the deal. I have a good friend that gave up on SG about three episodes into this season. I told her the key is to accept that this is as good as the show's ever going to be.

Actually, I was wondering why Laura felt the need to be on the bridge, with Jason, for the presumed "kill shot." Not a good look for the new Mayor to be involved in a murder, even Ryan's. Aaargh..St. Jasus...so interesting that the one time he really, seriously needs to off someone, he can't get it done. And I don't buy that it was because Ava was in the way. JaBorg is supposed to be an expert marksman. Plus, if he had shot Ava by mistake, Sonny and Carly would have turned cartwheels.
-
I know Laura's been through a lot lately, but why would she, as the Mayor of Port Charles, tag along on Jason's (botched) hit? If JaBorg had killed Ryan and Laura had to testify on the stand, would she have perjured herself to protect St. Jasus? Sloppy writing that undermined an otherwise decent (if overly long) S/L.

Yeah, I kinda wondered that myself. And regardless to whether or not Kara has a family "claim" to the Fortress, bad things always seem to happen there when she's involved. Kinda reminds me of the rowdy cousins who always broke my models when I was younger. And how did Manchester even know about the Fortress? Or how to get there? No need to apologize. That dress was talking, Eve never looked more attractive. "Miss Tess-MACHER" indeed. Just wish they'd stop nerfing him. Every time he uses his telepathy, he can always "feel" his target, but can never find them. At least we got to see his native Martian form. The f/x costs related to that can't be that high, can they? I'm calling it now - Lena will have to administer the Super Soldier Serum to James in order to save his life. James will once again be one of Kara's "Super Friends" (ugh), and he and Lena will get back together. Second episode in a row we've gotten a Kara "hands on hips" reference. One of the writers appears to have a fetish, heh.

We get so few persons of color on this show, why does this one have to be so...shady? Why is she shady? She wanted to give Oscar and Joss private time and came up with an excuse--which she quickly let Cam in on. And then they watched Mary Poppins. Seems perfectly fine to me. Granted, I've only been half-watching this train wreck of a soap, but whenever I see Trina (and she's not on that much), there's always some kind of duplicity. Like misleading parents as to their whereabouts. And didn't she also use phony ID to get the motel rooms? Just saying.

S04.E13: What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?
Winston Wolfe replied to Trini's topic in Supergirl
Hell, I've been reading comic books for over 40 years and didn't know that. Interesting. But he did look kinda goofy flying after Supergirl. The Hat actually said that he can't take them any where he hasn't been, so they couldn't get to Menagerie that way. A characteristic which seems to be common with teleporters, so that makes sense. Not liking Dreamgirl-1 or Brainy so much these days. A little over-exposed and definitely over-the-top most of the time. Jesse Rath's acting choices and delivery are definitely beginning to bug. No reason we can't get the more human Brainiac 5 from the Legion comic books. And man...J'onn abandoned that pacifist stance pretty quickly. This late in the show's run and they still can't figure out what to do with MM. Funny, before sitting down to write this post, I really liked the episode. Other than seeing Manchester Black I'm now feeling kind of meh about it. I think a lot of that feeling comes from the writers not being nearly detailed enough and trying to cram so much content into every episode. -
Actually, as my former GF and her co-workers were fleeing Downtown Manhattan that day, she correctly (and almost immediately) surmised that we were under attack when the second plane hit. She and her co-workers walked across the Williamsburg Bridge into Brooklyn - a questionable strategy to me because I expected al-Qaeda to start taking out the Bridges and Tunnels next, effectively isolating Manhattan. It really was a nightmare day from Hell. Re: television coverage: I seem to be the only one who remembers (or mis-remembers?) this, but I swear I recall all the TV stations (at least in NYC) going off-line for an hour around 8pm that night.
-
This show has been growing on me, so I have mixed emotions about the season finale. I lived in NYC for most of my life and resided in Brooklyn on 9/11. My then-SO worked four blocks away from Ground Zero. So that day was a very real thing for me, something I'll never forget. Especially the strong smell of jet fuel in the air two days after the event. So having strong emotions almost 20 years after the event kind of makes sense to me. Honestly, I still get nervous driving over the Brooklyn Bridge, wondering if/when we're going to get hit again. But life goes on, and as other posters said, Jon had enough other crises going on in his life that committing suicide because of survivor's guilt somehow rings false and hollow.

Yes, more Wendy, particularly since we're getting too much Tammy. Six seasons in we know virtually nothing about Wendy. She cries a lot, is a good Nurse, and has a lot of roommates. That's it. We see Tammy get laid, but Wendy only occasionally mentions male companionship. The character deserves a stand-alone episode, at least.
-
Yes to that. As another poster noted, it was almost like Lena was looking to start a disagreement as a means to end the relationship. The way Katie played it, that was Lena's whole demeanor in the Limo. Poor James, so unlucky in love. And since we've already been down to James Olsen-Lucy Lane road with this show, my guess is his next romance will be with a brand new character, although TPTB love recycling characters from cannon.

Thank you for that Hater, it made me both happy and sad. That YT clip reminded me that even in 1993, a little past its Zenith, GH was still re-writing the genre. Real action and adventure in the afternoon. Damn. Today's show runners can't pull that off - even worse, they don't even care that they don't have those kind of creative chops. All we get now is blind Borgs pulling their guns out for no real reason. And as a TG/Luke fan, it's kinda painful to think there's a whole generation of fans who don't realize how cool he was back in the day (retconned rape S/L aside). The best reformed character we get now is fucking Franco. Gag. Retch.

Both points taken, particularly the first (which dawned on me immediately after posting). On the second point, now that I think about it, you're probably right - women do tend to gravitate towards the "hottest" alpha male in the room, which Joe M was.

Leonard trying to look menacing while holding a dish-washing wand was hilarious. Yep, it's definitely a Lorre thing. In reality, Stuart's life has never really been all that pathetic. His store struggled a bit (hard to understand since he always had a stream of regular customers), but now it's successful, and he has a cute-ish girlfriend with a great personality who definitely seems to "get" him. A lot of real-life folks aren't doing that well, lol. Well the guys do it all the time (the Katie Sackhoff and Summer Glau episodes come to mind). Oddly enough, the ladies come off creepier and more lascivious than the guys. Which kind of makes sense if you've ever been to a women's strip club.

I actually liked that part, made Theo seem like a real boy. The character's great, but other than the night terrors he was a little too perfect. Yeah, the show did a nice little fake-out with the near kiss. Eddie seems to be growing up a bit, and it might still be possible for the two to reconcile. Someone needs to talk to Sophie about "stranger danger." More evidence of excellent parenting by Delilah. Even though there are still some inconsistencies, AMLT is definitely getting better, more of the show I was hoping we'd get. There's been enough good stuff in the past three or four episodes to bring me back next season.
-
"No Bloody A, B, C, or D." - Captain Montgomery Scott. Agreed on both fronts. It reminded me of some of the early season episodes, a bit mean spirited, with lots of nerdy, scientific goofiness. No Anu, but that was kind of ok. Here's hoping the show runners can duplicate this magic eight more times this season.

And what was that weird rant to Franco today about how much she hates her job? We've never seen a hint of that from Jordan before. We didn't get as many UCG moments today as yesterday. But "go away Lulu" still has me cracking up at random moments. Kin Shriner is Gold. Another funny spot was when Laura verified that Kevin, not Ryan, had visited her in France last year (they apparently had sex then). My thought was "don't worry Laura, Ryan would rather bite the head off a rattlesnake than make love to you," lol.
