Without a doubt Thank you for that analysis of costume design. I heard or read at some point that color scheme of Grace Kelly’s gowns in TCaT were supposed to reflect her character’s changing emotional relationship to Cary Grant. —cool blue to hot white to warm gold—indifference to passion to genuine affection— I don’t know if that story is what was the actual design or what the reviewer was seeing. Her casual every day clothes do not follow that pattern. And as an aside, I still do not know what was so startling about her black and white beach outfit other than it was something she knew would draw everyone’s eyes. I also remember from a TCM intro it was pointed out that the costume of the character of Danielle was designed to mirror Robie’s character down to the part in her/his hair. Borrowing your photos (How do you embed photos in a post?) I really hated to delete the other photos but I wanted to focus on these two for Jesse Royce Landis. I love how fabulous she looks in this movie. I especially like the peignoir set she has in the break in scene. Though the focus is meant for Grace Kelly, see how she is in beige in the casino scene which is fabulous with her red hair, she doesn’t fade into the background. She more than holds her own, she complements her daughter. We can see it again in the ball scene with the gold and blue gowns. And not just any blue but a deep rich jewel tone sapphire. What better to complement gold? (I just noticed how the color families are reversed from the casino scene. Can’t help but wonder if that was a deliberate choice.) I love both blue gowns. I can only dream of the sapphire jewelry JRL is draped in. I can not be the only one who wishes there was a feature of just the gowns from this scene. All the costumes are amazing, including the ones for the servers, that I just wanted to see all of them in detail. JRL is one my favorite character actresses right up there with Thelma Ritter. She makes her most of her small role in Airport . It was no surprise that Edith Head was the costume designer for that movie. I was surprised that IMDb does not list Edith Head as the costume designer for NxNW, the other famous “mother” role for JRL. Does anyone know the story there?

Yes, you did. A re read of my post I see how it came off a tad harsh/snarky, my apologies. I was reacting to the fact that Edith Head took credit for all the designs in Sabrina without acknowledging Givenchy’s contributions. We can all agree that the gowns are dreamy.

Sorry, no, as much as I love all the photos here, I must correct this misconception. Hubert de Givenchy is the genius behind those stunning dresses we remember in Sabrina. The wardrobe after Sabrina returns from Paris are Givenchy that Hepburn selected herself because when Hepburn had first approached Givenchy to design costumes for her in Sabrina, he was unable to commit time to the project. Instead he gave her the run of the rails and she picked a few choice numbers, including a memorable white strapless gown with black embroidery and a double skirt. Hepburn requested that Givenchy design all her future costumes, starting with Funny Face. Edith Head does deserve all the kudos for To Catch a Thief and Rear Window, but not the other two.

It bothered me that Bucky did not correct Walker when Walker called him “Bucky” with a well placed “you don’t get to call me that!” Didn’t he scold Sam earlier for calling him “Buck” or is that somehow more personal to him?

I know this quote is about his friend, but it applies to the kids too. Paul is trying to be the cool parent too hard. That first scene with them ignoring Paul then telling him to leave because he was bothering their tv watching had me wondering how many of us watching this thought that the tv would have been snapped off and off limits for a least a week if any of us spoke to our folks like that. Only the interaction with Bow at the pizza parlor was amusing to me. It is a classic tween/parent event. The one with Johan was again him trying to hard to be a friend then over correcting with “he can’t be your friend” nonsense. (The skate ramp was dangerous though) I am so tired of Santi and her creepy child/bratty half-pint (tm TV tropes), I’m tired of that trope overall.

Is there anyone would didn’t guess that Albert and the neighbor would get together? I wanted a scene with Buck talking to Chim and Maddie where he tells them all about the date. They both look at him like he’s crazy asking him “you told her that story?” I admit to hitting fast forward during all but the denouement scene. The bonus of watching Rear Window for me is Grace Kelly’s Fashion (with a capital F) and the great Thelma Ritter, who makes everything better. Did Athena tell Michael any of legal penalties of spying on people? How are they going to explain why/how they knew the guy was up to something or to look for the woman? I did think they were going to go with the plot device that Michael hallucinated the whole thing because he had a brain tumor but quickly remembered all the shenanigans with the others. That is how much I was paying attention. They did a great job of casting Hen’s mom. At first I thought that the styling of the hair and glasses was influencing my perception a bit but during the scene in the car where it was not as noticeable you could better see a mother/daughter resemblance. Who was the actor playing the neighbor that got hit by the mis-deployed Humvee? And could anyone identify the patch on Hen’s red jacket? Baum or Blaum?

I didn’t get that far into the story. Once I heard of her new profession, I was so disgusted. It was as if the writer couldn’t handle the strong woman as written by ACD and just picked up on the “oh, she was an actress “ let’s take that to the extreme demeaning implication of that term and then let’s make her an accomplice/victim of Moriarty. Not enough suns to express my hate. Irene Adler was never a victim.

Aw! Considering, what Dr. Who Rory went through (he’s plastic!), it is surprising that he didn’t go that way.

I initially was skeptical about Elementary but came around to really enjoying their take on Holmes/Watson. When I saw what the Benedict Cumberbatch version did to the Irene Adler character, I was furious. If I could have thrown the tv, I would have. And yes, the other show also changed Irene, but they kept her spirit of being Sherlock’s equal who could get the better of him. Even with the mishmash, they didn’t assassinate her character as did the BBC. That must mean he is the sweetest, most loyal cat you could ever want to have.

Not sure where to post a “things I appreciate in a commercial I don’t “, but here it goes. I like the level of detail the set designers put into the LiMu commercial with zoom call, the commercial itself is annoying. There is a photo of Mrs. LiMu visible behind LiMu among some other avian themed decor. I do wonder on the detective’s side where is the photo of Mrs. Detective though.

This is the kind of episode I like, interesting and wacky rescues low on the ick factor with very little personal drama. That look Chim gave that idiot clown -daggers- I do wish the other clown had done more than just roll her eyes. I think my favorite scene was the talk in the station where all the “medical, baby, whatever Buck was reading” got dropped in favor of what was going on with Eddie. It had a nice sibling vibe. The talk while they were trapped in the engine was good too and of course the other station is going to take photos. They would have if the situation was reversed. TIL not to put ice on a burn. Does anyone know what the song was at the end playing in the background with Eddie and the teacher/VP? Not really looking forward to a “Rear Window” type story next week.

I was happy they used a new song, but I see what you are saying. Of a certain age? I’d say of any age. My favorite part of the commercial, unlike the others of the type, is that the shop employee keeps the song going and all of them join in.

It looks like a basement to me which would explain both the size and what appears to be a multiple use room.

Weird is the whole vibe of these commercials.

I saw a commercial online* that ties back to the watching tv while sick comments. It is for a new streaming service with Sir Patrick Stewart hosting a cocktail party on the Paramount mountain with Stephan Colbert as bartender and it only gets weirder from there. It reminded me of how when you would be sick, dozing on the couch or bed with the tv on, and the tv sounds seep into your dreams. It is that nonsensical. *as I am typing this, a next chapter type commercial for this service came on, which without the context of the first one makes less sense.

What song is used in the new Jeep commercial? It sounds both inappropriate for a commercial and that it is being mangled.

I think this the same ad that at the beginning they are discussing someone from a dating app. One of them is listing the qualities including “long hair” and “plays frisbee” when another voice dismissively says “what is he, a Labrador?” I can’t be the only one who grumbled in disgust. Long hair? Do the advertisers not know what a Labbie looks like? Of all dogs to choose!

It is his character. The less said about that the better. I do have to admit that I’m not all that fond of Noth either, but that is more of I can tolerate him in small doses. Or if he is with Jerry Orbach (Law/Order ref). I don’t think 13’s Tardis had changed. It is still the weird crystals uber-dark dreck it was before. I really miss the clean bright control room of the original. The alternate Tardis had that look a bit, though it did seem a bit cluttered with wires or something. I don’t remember what Ruth’s version looked like. (See comment below) Still looked better even with all Daleks about. So, a NuWho idea along with the hybrid human/Dalek creation during Ten and Martha’s run. Not the best episode but still far less aggravating than this one. I am still bugged by what happened to the technology that allowed “Danny Boy” to fly into space. I guess everything is still classified so no one knows about the previous attempt to use Daleks as opposed to the how many times the Daleks have attacked Earth. I heard that line in caps in a Dalek voice. I was so relieved when they finally got back in their shells and sounded like themselves again. Before that my DH made another movie reference to Independence Day with the Dalek using the human to speak. I was also glad to see Ryan and Graham safely off the Tardis. Closer to what happened with Sara Jane or Teegan, them deciding on their own to leave. Loved the call back at the end to Ryan trying to learn how to ride a bike and for Graham to see Grace. I don’t think Ryan saw her or at least he didn’t indicate that he did. I would watch spin off of their adventures. Sad to say, it would be more interesting to me than the current Who because there wouldn’t be the mucking about with the Doctor’s backstory. Did wonder about the trolls though, in Finland? I thought it was Norway. Either way I thought the Scandinavian countries got along with the trolls.

Forgot to mention that I did chirp “hey, the squareness gun!” Nice callback, wonder where Jack got it. Also wanted to ask if there was any significance to the look of the control room on the decoy Tardis. (so sad to see any Tardis destroyed)

Me: (after being relatively quiet during the episode). Aaargh! Why didn’t they kill him off? He can’t be knighted, he’s not a citizen! DH: Why not? Jack Ryan was. Me: ? DH: Patriot Games. It was honorary too. (smiles) I know I indicated I was not planning to watch this one because of Chris Noth, but my family had been asking all week when it was going to be on. Then today, they were reminding me it was going to be on, so I agreed to watch and went in spoiler free. It was better than I had expected, not a Cyberman in sight! Yes, a mention and Jack should have yelled at her about that but I digress. and Regrading the apparent amnesia about Daleks, I ranted about that earlier so DD and I started listing all the people who would remember starting with Wilf . She also said that most governments would have a secrets book where they would have that info and were probably now freaking out seeing them rolled out on TV. On point 3, I had a hard time seeing the character and not the actress. I kept switching between seeing Fanny Dashwood and Brutus in Julius Caesar . When was it established that they could survive outside of their shells? Was that a NuWho thing? I liked all the callbacks too (and no Cybermen!). Avoid “The Time of the Doctor” if you want to keep the creepiness of the Silence intact. I agree. It would have been nice to see them adjusting to the new situation. It is too bad they didn’t go with someone from another time period or another planet. An aside: I did appreciate with tptb did with the promos for the show with the commercial that was introducing the Daleks. First time I saw it, it took a split second to register that it was not going to be another watch commercial.

I found the tag line annoying because it felt to me that it suggests a scenario that we, the audience, have not seen before. Now if it is a quote from one of the trio, then it would make sense because they have never had this experience. Once they meet up with Jack, he might have a few pointers. I also find it tedious that once again someone has thought “oh, let’s use this tech that tried to kill us to be our defense system”. Or at least that the impression I got from the clip. I realize that what happened in WWII in this universe is probably still classified. I guess it is the equivalent to what is supposed to be happening at Area 51.
