May 25. I haven't seen Somebody Feed Phil. Seen the one season of his PBS show. How does SFP compare to Searching for Italy? Or Bourdain? Also it's suppose to be in 4K and HDR. Do they have good cinematography? Not just the food photography but maybe land and cityscapes, street photography of the places?

Sure but if she really wanted to lean into being Cruella, she could have just laughed at her when Ava was crying or on the verge of crying after Weed told her they're not turning back. I think also Ava senses that even when Deb was messing with her, Deb didn't despise her for the email or any other reason. Or she would have just quit if she thought there was no way they were going to re-establish some working relationship at least where Deb respects Ava for her comic instincts.

House Hunters International - General Discussion

They do if they're on HHI.😄 It seems budget was the big factor, otherwise the penthouse was the best home, though it would be a splurge. Who knows if the relocation is temporary or meant to be permanent. I guess if the other guy was going through the licensing process in the UK, which could take a long time, they plan to be there for a couple of years. I don't know the hotel market in Bristol but even in smaller cities, hotels which aren't even that special can be easily $200 a night after taxes. So the difference in rent between the penthouse and the house they chose might only pay for 2 or 3 nights. But who knows if he was serious about having family over. They will certainly visit them at some point, though Bristol isn't exactly the big draw that London would be. But it might be part of the HHI template for one house hunter to talk up guest room for visiting family and friend. -
Van at the end talked about the timeline. She was in Atlanta 2 weeks ago. So within two weeks, she hung out with Earn for awhile and then assumed this whole life? Hell the baguette was suppose to be 6 months old! Even two weeks between Amsterdam and Paris can get expensive, unless she took a couple of peeing gigs herself. It still had a surreal air, like some of the anthology episodes. Completely blasé about Skarsgard but she wanted to collect hands for the dinner? Not that convinced that the mention of Lottie would snap her out of her funk. After all, she left the kid back home to come on this adventure. And IIRC, Earn asked her about Lottie earlier in the season. Whatever malaise she felt -- whatever caused her to come to Europe on a whim -- it was while she was taking care of her daughter. I can't recall how she came across as a mother in previous seasons, it's been so long. But it seemed she had other diversions than her child, like the time she thought she was going through one of Drake's homes. They must have quite a budget. That place where she bludgeoned Emilio with the baguette looked like the Louvre. Then that apartment at the end with the panoramic views of the Eiffel Tower would be prime real estate. Or filming at that bench with the view of the tower, probably a very busy venue. They probably didn't have to pay for the big celebrity cameos. The stars are probably fans or buddies with Glover so he's kind of like a younger Woody Allen, the director everyone wants to work with. Let's see if there are more celebrity cameos in any future seasons.

I took it as Deb messing with Ava more than trying to be hurtful. The thing about selling her condo was pure trolling. And as we saw, when Ava really became distraught, she dropped the mean girl game to help her retrieve the ashes.

Terrific episode, Deb being humbled after the soaring moment of the singing performance, when she owned the room. Then she just as quickly lost the room or boat or ship with her performance. Inside the Episode they said they knew fans would love it because of Jean Smart singing. She pulled it off, especially if that was one take. Then Marcus hitting a low, allowing his puppy to get poisoned on one of his club drugs, seeing that his ex is already with someone and the vet refusing to release the dog to him. Deb sensed that so she fired Weeds and had Marcus join them. Beneath that tough broad exterior she's a loving mother to her employees, who are like her surrogate children. Well maybe compensating for not doing such a great job with her own daughter.

I don't think she was being malicious about it. Especially the way she chatted up that other female comic, had Ava go get them drinks, then as soon as Ava was gone, got rid of the other comic. Then the cracks about whether she could sell Ava's condo as a 2 bedroom if it has a big closet. And how it's too bad Ava's father didn't live long enough to see her take everything Ava owned. She probably thinks Ava has to endure something for betraying her confidence. She could see Ava was frantic and really distraught over losing her father's ashes so she dropped the act, had them turn the bus around and even went dumpster diving. If Deb didn't like Ava, she wouldn't have lasted this long.

So apparently MTV is planning various spinoffs based on JS, including a JS 2.0 with a new, younger cast in a Jersey Shore home. They are also planning Buckhead Shore, based in GA, and All Star Shore, based on a shore home in the Canary Islands as well. Some or all of these spinoffs would be for Paramount +. https://www.nj.com/entertainment/2022/05/jersey-shore-20-heads-to-mtv-sending-new-generation-of-partiers-to-the-beach-plus-all-star-shore-battle-royale.html Snookie didn't react well to the news: JS Family Vacation will continue, with new episodes soon. But apparently some other OG JS cast members have complained as well. 495 Productions, the production company, have over the years tried to get permits to film in various Jersey Shore towns and have been repeatedly turned down, in part because of the reputation of the cast. https://www.nj.com/entertainment/2019/08/mtvs-jersey-shore-rejected-by-nj-town-again-heres-a-history-of-the-state-saying-no-to-snooki-and-co.html Well MTV and Paramount are rebooting The Hills with a new cast as well and so far, the original cast aren't whining about the reboots. Guess Snookie is threatened that the gravy train could end if the reboot and the spinoffs are more popular and they don't pay the cast of these new shows nearly as much as them?

Highly staged confrontations, Benny telling Jaime that giving orders and direction is intimidation. Again Benny is encouraged to be openly defiant of his supposed superior. Jaime goes to Jason, says he's had it with Benny but Jason won't back up his bosun, says he has to hear Benny's side and also get opinions of other deck crew. First of all, Benny was back talking to his direct boss Jaime, the same way Ryan was dismissive of Jason, the supposed top boss on the boat. Jason is itching to get rid of Ryan but he wants to give Benny a chance? The whole chain of command and insubordination talk on the other BD shows is completely missing on BDDU. They might as well not have any titles or roles. Everyone is an equal cast member on this TV show which is supposedly about a yacht crew. The producers aren't going to let the supposed bosses fire or discipline any other cast members. If they do, they're going to have all these convos talking about it endlessly. They all must know that because the bosses are kind of gun shy too while the insubordinate slackers are bold and blatantly defiant of their supposed superiors. It also seems like Culver and Brittini don't want to throw Benny under the bus, even though Benny put Culver in danger with the jet ski crane and tried to make more work for Brittini with the encouragement of the guests to stay up late fishing. Instead Brittini says Jaime is to blame for not telling Benny that he moved her to nights because he wasn't finishing his tasks. BTW, that's all Jaime has to say to Jason, not just the insubordination and defiance part, which Jason says is a personality conflict. Jaime should have told Jason that Benny repeatedly won't finish his tasks during his shift, leaving work for the others and that he was taking selfies when he was suppose to be driving the tender. He should also ask Jason, "aren't you sick of Benny repeatedly playing the dead parents card whenever he gets into trouble?" Magda's turnaround is short-lived. First chance she gets, she has to message or call her boyfriend again. Why she go all the way around the world if he's so precious? She should have gone for BDM, to be close by. Her friend was right to call her a psychopath, the way she's so jealous and suspicious. For all we know, women aren't throwing themselves all the time at him and it's just Magda being paranoid. Or playing up a fake story line for the cameras.

Wow it seems like they're going to wrap things up quickly. How does Grace know to wear the same light gray jacket that Cassie decides to wear on that day, when they decide impromptu to go to the pier? Max had to figure it out too and then within hours they're off to the pier. In any event almost everyone is there except Dot, who may have been running Grace. It seems like they're going to merge the Megan and Cassie plots together somehow. Have a feeling that the way they resolve things in the season finale will be unsatisfying.

Something I've noticed with this episode, the married relationships seem odd. Kim and Jimmy seem to have a distance since they were married. Maybe it's because they're lawyers but a lot of their dialogue seems like a negotiation. Sure married couples should be equal partners and should agree on things. But the rhythms of the speech seem off and there's not much affection or passion shown. They brush their teeth together and get into bed together, no kisses or cuddling, they continue a conversation some times. It becomes a pattern with Howard making a giant cup of coffee or cappuccino for presumably his wife. They're already both dressed for work, in business attire. They have the same kind of distanced dialogue which seems odd in a couple. She proceeds to dump the cappuccino, with fancy peace sign drawn in milk, into a big portable mug, spills some. Later on, after she leaves, Howard goes there and cleans up the spillage. Again, the dialog feels more like business partners than a man and a wife. It's a stark contrast to Walter White slipping into bed late at night and and making Skylar go "Walt!" Of course they bicker plenty during BB. There are no negotiations or deference to each other when they are having a potentially contentious conversation. Howard's behavior is consistent with his character. But Jimmy/Saul? Seems Jimmy and Kim should be more like Walter and Skyler. Even though they are both plotting together so on the same page. Jimmy made another proposal that they cancel their plans after he witnessed something which could undermine their plans. Kim decided firmly that they were not going to change their plans but said it in a way to end further discussion.

Yeah I'm the same about pork. I've eaten plenty of ham and salumi though. And those charcuterie plates are popular all over. But they're loaded with preservatives or with salt or both. I once booked a stay at an agriturismo without realizing it. It was outside Arezzo and it required driving up a hill in these narrow dirt roads. After driving up, I dreaded going back down and up again. I didn't even get to visit Arezzo the two days I was there. Well their featured dish for dinner was pigeon. Still didn't try it. I understand it was a good way to improvise and get proteins but it's not the Middle Ages any more and it's not my tradition. They grow plenty of cattle in Tuscany and other parts of Italy. I've been watching Nomad. Carlton is pretty good considering he's new at this, though maybe he's done some TV before. I guess these producers set up these visits of the places where they shoot. He's not pretending like Bourdain to already know every one of the people he visits on the show. So he doesn't have the easy rapport that Bourdain seems to be able to have. Tucci doesn't quite have it either, probably the same story, the producers do most of the work to set up these meet ups that they can film. Carlton was most natural re-connecting with relatives and old friends in the DC episode which just aired. Maybe these producers just want to rely on a formula that's worked for a long time for Bourdain. So even if the hosts wanted to carve out their own style, they may discourage experimentation. Curious if he writes the copy for the narration, like Bourdain did. He can certainly express himself well enough. The selection of places so far is more eclectic and maybe meant to convey that they're up and coming places, kind of like the host. So if nothing else, they haven't been places that you would have necessarily have seen Bourdain visit. Here are the places he visits in the 6-episode season 1. https://cnncreativemarketing.com/project/nomad/ If they renew, it will be interesting to see if they choose more popular or better-known destinations. I can see viewers who watched Bourdain and now Searching for Italy maybe balk at watching Nomad because some of these places are not those they're interested in discovering or possibly visiting.

Season 8: Predictions, Premonitions, Probabilities, and Paranoia

Well she did kind of have this attitude like "what was I thinking, wasting all that time" and "Metul is so much more of a man." So if Craig has a shit-eating grin, he'd be justified somewhat. But I think a lot of this is ginned up. Like that one season where they repeatedly played that stupid Instagram video of muppet mouth supposedly in a threesome and built a whole plot for him and Madison over it. -
Paul's more mindful of cursing out Luke, always has these flashbacks when he was screaming F-bombs at him. While Ally sees Ava growing apart from the cozy mother-daughter relationship that they used to have. She feels a certain way about Ava not telling her about having her first period. Then the grandparents had to have that discussion about feminine hygiene. Paul is too easily annoyed or Luke is just annoying? But maybe his back pain go the better of him, before he lost his temper again at the kid.

Sicily would be a big one. Here's the menu for the Umbria episode. https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/stanley-tucci-searching-for-italy-umbria-itinerary-origseriesfilms/index.html La Prosciutteria seems like it would be wildly popular. In fact they seem to be a chain with more locations in Toscana than Umbria. Under 6 Euros for their paninis. https://www.laprosciutteria.com/en/where-we-are/

Such classy dinner conversation. then stuffing a big load of spaghetti at once. Bravo sure knows how to find them. I bet Dr. Nipples and her crew will be repeat guests in future seasons if Daisy is still around. Those producers are such trolls. The next guests are also repeat guests who also acted out last season. Kelsie is kind of tomboy-ish but Gary senses she wouldn’t go for his act. Instead the girly girls seem to like his attention. Kelsie was asking Ashley to stop with her moping on the van ride home and just embarrassed for her. Then the whole thing bout being second stew — I have more experience! Baby, you’ll still Be cleaning toilets even as second stew, like Daisy said.

That's a good point, she has to think about her public image. It wouldn't look good if the start and show runner of an acclaimed show about domestic abuse was herself in a relationship which could turn into domestic abuse. Katie is right about Barry but it's hard to believe someone so young would have insight about violent men, unless she's had first-hand experience or maybe she witnessed someone close to her being subject to something similar. Sally may have arrived at the right decision about Barry but maybe it's not purely a sign of emotional growth. Maybe she did a calculation about having to protect her public image. But then typically stars (or budding stars) would talk to managers, agents and maybe a publicist or PR expert? Still it's hard to believe they're completely over. If Sally cuts off ties to Barry and she sticks to it, then why would she need to have as much screen time on a show mainly about Barry? The plot about her show is rife with comic possibilities, like people watching Pam! rather than Sally's show, despite the RT scores. Or they think it's about something else. But if they run this story line in parallel with what's going on with Barry and they do go for comedy, it would feel odd to have comic scenes about the TV business at the same time you have an increasingly dark trajectory for Barry himself.
-
that's a good point, Cousineau definitely has an anger management problem. If he was doing all these antics, which they seem to cite for comic effect, he'd be canceled like Weinstein. Barry makes a mistake one time and Katie judged him and Sally canceled their relationship.
-
If it were anybody else than Cousineau, he'd have killed that person who was threatening to go to the police. Sure there is no way for Barry to come back from the actions depicted on the show. But it doesn't strike me that Hader and Berg conceived of this show as a serious exploration into whether a killer can have any semblance of a normal life or get out of the only life he's known for most of his adult life. I think they came up with a hook, an assassin who wants to become an actor. So there were jokes in season 1, Fuches telling him he can't be public-facing in his job like be in commercials and Barry saying he didn't think he'd do commercials -- wanted to be a serious ACT-or. Maybe the more they had to have him kill, to keep Hank and some other characters from his past alive, or depict his past, they realized they can't have him suddenly quit and become a successful civilian. It would upset many viewers and probably not ring true that he can so easily leave a life of violence behind. Plus there's the whole impulse for morality tale, people may not be able to tolerate someone who's done so many bad things go unpunished. We've gone through the heavy and dark shows about crime and punishment -- Breaking Bad, Sopranos, The Wire. I would have enjoyed Barry remaining more light and comic. Because the funny thing is, there are a lot of viewers who didn't want to see Walter White or Tony Soprano get their just deserts, poetic justice. But I was okay with how the ending of those characters were handled. Not sure I'd want to see Barry killed or locked away in prison at the end. That may be a minority view though.
-
Probably. Or it's more the case that Barry shouldn't be in a relationship with anyone until he sorts through his issues. But there are no indications that he would harm people close to him -- or those whom he loves -- because he's going out of his way not to kill Cousineau, even though it would make things easier for him. Fact that he loves, or thinks he loves certain people puts him ahead of other killers?

Season 8: Predictions, Premonitions, Probabilities, and Paranoia
aghst replied to Babyfoot's topic in Southern Charm
Starting to suspect they're using more fictional showmances and hookups. Or maybe Naomie is that stupid. A show like Siesta Key, all the showmances are dubious. -
I can't recall Barry being that frequent a yeller. He yelled "Fuches!" when Fuches ratfucked him with Cousineau but otherwise? We did see him blow up, kind of enter the fugue state at the monastery. Maybe also when he invaded the Ecuadorian headquarters in season 1, though it was his partner that was out of control and reckless. Barry has been a proficient assassin because he's bee coldly efficient, rarely get out of control. We saw that in the first murder in the hotel room, a grisly scene with the blood coming out of the eye of the victim -- Hader said they researched how corpses of murders look. Yet he was calm and after that first hit shown, he went home and played video games. It was in season 2 when they did the backstory if Afghanistan, though he was very efficient using that sniper rifle and it was his fellow soldiers who got emotional in celebration. Then another Afghanistan flashback, his buddy is killed and he goes out of control and kills that villager. Kind of seems like there was a bit of retconning there in season 2. Because in season 1, he was always this cool customer. Like he discovers the Chechens killed Ryan so he cooly takes them out, going straight at them while they panicked. Also efficient, not getting emotional, to kill Janice. But now they're suggesting he's prone to going on emotional and shooting rampages? He was cool as he paid off the lemonade stand girls and then plant the bomb. Also throughout the technical support call for the Detonate app. Then he rescued Cristobal and took him to Hank's. He got kind of emotional, telling Gene that he took a job to make it up to him, promised to leave him and his family alone and gave him the bag of cash. He definitely needs therapy but I don't think it would be for something like anger management. More like PTSD and being emotionally dead until he met Cousineau.
-
Bill Hader said on the Prestige TV podcast that Sally hearing from Katie is suppose to be the veil lifting from her eyes moment, a sign of growth for her. Hader talked about some people reacting like "he just got mad at her" and his response was "Dude ..." But sure, Barry is violent from killing all those guys, though Sally doesn't know it.
-
Fuches may be betting on Annabeth not knowing that he's the guy who arranges the hits. But she may conclude that since he knows the details he is the one who arranged it. The comedy will come from Fuches discovering that he's the target. Like that moment when the detective caught him in season 2 and his proposition to Barry was to kill his ex-wife's lover and Barry was "What?!?" Annabeth could have used a fake name but Fuches would know the real identity of her husband who was the target and be able to find her.
