Starring Jeremy Allen White (Lip from Shameless). Few reviews but all positive so far. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_bear/s01/reviews?type=top_critics OK it's an FX show but it's available only on Hulu. Instead of airing on FX channels, they are dropping all 8 episodes on Hulu. Weird. Kind of like the reverse of season 1 on The Chi, where Brandon aspires to be a chef but has to go out to a food truck. This guy has made it in the fine dining world but goes back to help his family run a sandwich shop?

House Hunters International - General Discussion

Coventry girlfriend wanted her own bathroom. Not unreasonable, since she's paying the bills. They'd never lived together so it's kind of a leap for her to move to the UK with him, get a new job, pay the bills while he goes to school. Does she do that without an understanding that they will marry so his increased earning after getting a master would benefit the both of them? But for now they're not married so girl better check herself a bit, he could exit stage right after he gets his masters. It's not uncommon for young women to toil and support a guy through med school or residency only to be screwed over and abandoned. -
Only way Chase would know about Harper calling the agent kiddo is if he was in contact with Harper much more recently. Or been to his office where Harper called the agent kiddo. But when Harper called to warn him, they apparently hadn't spoken in 30 years or whenever they had their adventure in Afghanistan. So it's either a continuity error or just pure coincidence?

Which other BD alumnae are on OF?

Yeah this episode kind of seems self-contained. I was thinking this drama with his parents wouldn't affect his family until Jackie asked to stay with Paul's family. I wonder if they wanted to let these two older actors really let loose and showcase their chops, because they've mostly been on the periphery. Even his father thinks Paul has anger issues. Looks like Paul and Ally are already clashing over Ava.

Westworld Season Four: Speculation, Casting, and Discussion
aghst replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Westworld
Here are the salient points about the season and the series: 1. The land and city scapes are pretty. So are the actors. 2. Every character is a robot. 3. Robots are scary efficient at death and destruction. 4. If you kill off major characters, because of #2, they will just come back. 5. Plotting and logic are optional. -
Yeah that has always been convention with Real World and other reality shows having individual cast members getting sendoffs. Also a good way to fill time, which just goes to show how much little substance they have. The antics in the van and the 3 guys slapping each other are purely playing to the cameras. These aren't 20-year old frat boys. After the initial success of the BD shows, each new cast member knows they have to be outrageous and silly on camera, whether drunk or not. They're probably made aware during the casting process that they're expected to be loud and noticeable on camera.

Stews and News: Below Deck Med in the Media

Have there ever been any BD season where there wasn't some kind of showmance or crew hooking up with each other or a charter guest or whatever? -

Of course they cast the chief stew who's going to be involved in some "romance." -
boring finale, boring season. Scarlett says Gary is too much drama whereas a couple of episodes age she couldn’t stay away from him. Like she could turn it on and off. Daisy is so fit? Not in that bikini. Sounds like they're planning to have a few of the crew back.

Previews show that Zoe is going to be with him. So Chase isn't just going to leave her home and go on the run, he's apparently going to take her. It's weird, Chase was thinking he'd kill both cops at the traffic stop and then shoot her if she was questioning him. But instead, he drives them home and they sleep together. Why would he have to kill her? Just say I'm on the run, sorry didn't mean to get you involved and just take off? But he was right to be wary of the traffic stop, because Harper got pictures of them and her address. How often would they have a traffic stop in a rural area? Plus I think he started out in Massachusetts and apparently his confrontation with the CIA agents took place some distance away from Zoe's place in PA. So did Harper, the FBI and CIA have a dragnet out? Or they just happened to have found those pictures from this unrelated traffic stop in some small PA town?

Trying to construct a timeline. Harper and Chase both reference Chase leaving behind his former life 30 years ago. Assuming current day is around 2020, that means Afghanistan in the late '80s or early '90s when Chase was playing Lawrence of Arabia and killing Soviets there as a rogue ex-CIA agent. Emily is about 30 years old so the little meeting between young Harper and young Chase on horseback would have been a little before that time. And when Chase proposed to his late wife, to have a normal life, it would have also been in the late '80s or early 90s. So Chase and Harper were both around 40 when they had their adventures in Afghanistan? The dogs must be under 10 years old? When are they fully grown but not too old to fall to disease? So in the 30 years since Chase left behind his life, how many sets of Rottweilers must he have trained to kill? I guess it's conceivable that Hamzad became a US ally and now he's demanding an American citizen be delivered to him by the CIA? Sure Chase went rogue so CIA may not GAF about him. But surely they must care if he keeps killing CIA operatives that they send after him?

I watched the little preview they had of the upcoming season. They're trying to make a big deal out of some IG photo of Angelina with some guy. They keep referring to Angelina being in Spain. That is the new All Star Shore show which they're doing in the Canary Islands and Angelina is the only one from JS to go on that show. Chris is out of the picture and Angelina may be dating this guy. I hope they got a lot more than trying to zoom into IG photos to determine that the photo was taken in Cancun, not Spain. Mike the Investigation uses his skills, which consist of zooming into the background to see Cancun. Rest of cast tries to feign interest at this random photo. Come on, need to do better than that. They previewed Buckhead Shore, a young cast in GA. They're preparing chicken and they're complaining that the guys cooking it doesn't know what he's doing while the guy says he makes great chicken. Then they cut to people complaining about how dry the chicken is.

House Hunters International - General Discussion

Looked like a lovely part of France but doesn't seem to be a huge tourist destination like nearby Avignon or the Luberon villages. Does the chef house hunter work in a restaurant which tries to attract tourist clientele or hope to open one? Do people who live in small villages patronize restaurants enough to sustain them? I think the choice they made was good, not to put all their money into a big property without getting an idea of the local market. That third place was also 45 minutes away from the restaurant where they have jobs, so they'd have had long commutes for awhile. They don't know that that place is necessarily good for restaurants. Also, they happen to choose that area because that was the first job he found after culinary school. So he might prefer or find jobs in a different region. -
Culver and Brittini both think they're being treated unfairly. Suddenly Culver turned into Benny, wanting to have fun in the last two charters. Brittini doesn't like the guys being able to flirt with the female charter guests, who are sloppy drunks. They tried to stuff too much into one day and the tides won't cooperate so the crew is trying to get back to the ship before being stranded on that beach. Aesha wants to try to end the season on a high note but the crew won't have it, they get loaded and then come back and stuff their faces. Someone was doing the Ashley from BDSY trick with the spaghetti with a bowl of ramen. Nate was stressing out about making the correct combo of dishes for the dietary requirements and preferences but turns out the charter guests are too drunk to notice the food. These guests are why I don't buy the idea that they pay tens of thousands for these 2-day charters. They don't care about anything other than drinking. They could get a lot more bang for the buck getting booze at beach clubs or resort bars. Unless their secondary goal was to come across badly on television.

Yeah as of the time of that interview the show hasn't been renewed for season 3 yet. They got a hatchet guy now in charge of Warner's and Discovery. He already canceled some Max Originals like Made for Love. He took over after Discovery bought out Warners which includes HBO Max. Looks like he's killing a lot of shows that was ordered before him. So as highly praised as this show is, there are no guarantees. The show runners very much want to keep doing more seasons. Two of them got married, just had a child. Maybe they can take it to another streamer if HBO Max cuts them.

Remember Taylor from season 1? Barry hired him in season 1 to help him take out the Bolivian stash house. He was all Rambo and probably saved Barry's life. So they have all this money and Taylor wanted a hot tub and really spend the money extravagantly. Then they trie to go meet the Bolivians where they were flying in on a improvised landing strip but he was obvious about it and the Bolivians killed Taylor. But Taylor's sister and brother go after Barry and I think the brother is the one who shot Fuches, while the sister is the one who chased Barry on the motorcycle. Brother tried to hand off a gun to another gang member, causing him to crash. The sister chased Barry to the dealership, shot at him from the roof and Barry shot her there, then went on to get poisoned by Chris' wife, who disappeared. This show may bring that character back at some point.

Reviews seem to praise the citing but not so much the writing.

I visited Cork like 20 years ago one time for work. Too busy to sightsee. Center was okay, the hotel I was in was near the water which had swans. I learned that Cork or the coastal area near it is called the Irish Riviera but didn't see too much sun. The Ireland of the movies and Game of Thrones are elsewhere on the island. But I think Cork became a big growth area because US tech companies built facilities there. Can't recall the agent's name, the guy is pretty funny. He said very high demand or low supply of rental housing in the city. Also said it's hard to find rentals willing to allow pets so they should be happy with what they ended up with. Things I most remember about my trip. As soon as people got off the plane, you heard all these lighters flicking on because the Irish were fiending to light up. Restaurants had a small section for non-smokers but they weren't separated so not a pleasant dining experience. Irish took their tea with milk, which was something I hadn't seen before -- hadn't been to England yet.
