House Hunters International - General Discussion

Ireland to Perth, a family of 5, 3 young sons. Couple met in Sydney, moved to Ireland for awhile and the wife "manifested" a sunny, active outdoors life for their family so they moved back, except Sydney was overpriced now and Perth made more sense. They said once they experienced living in sunny weather, they couldn't unsee it so they're back. Husband found job with plumbing company and wife will work from home. They want a big home, though their kids are young, maybe they'd go for homes with bedrooms for all, in addition to pool, be close to Perth CBD. Also, apparently "Hamptons" style is a thing, at least in Perth if not other parts of Australia, though I don't recall it being mentioned in other Australia episodes. Wife wants modern, spacious suburban type of home which is Hamptons style. They are referring to Hamptons NY, not somewhere else. But in the Hamptons, you're not seeing suburban homes, you're seeing mansions, on compounds or vast expanses of open space with beach access, for billionaires. They had a $2800 budget, while one home was the fancy home that the wife "manifested" and she didn't want to compromise, they end up choosing the lowest-priced home, which is close to husband's work and while it looked old from the outside, the inside met most of their requirements, though it didn't have a pool nor was it as close to the beach as the other homes. There was another episode recently where the house hunter was some kind of manifestation coach, which apparently is about dreaming or wanting something and finding ways to get it. -

Nick and Mike were dispirited by the time they went through the hay stacks, probably ready to give up, especially after Hana and Holden found theirs and the other team arrived. so yeah they probably rushed through the hay and missed it but they were tired and giving up.

Well the task was to come up with an opening skit, not necessarily a monologue with one liners. OK even during the truce, Deborah and Ava spar over how to manage and motivate the staff. Deb is old school, wants to make them fear her, while Ava wants to nurture and encourage, build a supportive environment. The show runners said in the after show that a writers room which works well is like group sex, with everyone contributing and riffing over each other’s ideas and that seems to happen in the end. But Poppy warns Ava that Deborah never forgets, will probably come for her again at some point.

Didn't they say there would be NELs this season? We're now down to 5 or 6 teams and we haven't had any NELs yet. If they have one now, it's going to be a strong team which survives. Very physical tasks throughout the day. Even the apples started out the day with a lot of running in the heat. Melinda and Ericka panicked. Nick and Mike probably lost the will when they were U-turned and then when the other U-turned team found the needle in the haystack. Or they were tired and rushed through the hay, not concentrating. Jonathan and Ana helped by bystanders. Did they notify the villagers that there would be a TV show filming that day and people were watching and then decided to help? Or did the producers say they could help? Meanwhile Nick and Mike, once they went through the 3 haystacks weren't allowed to start with another 3 and they spread the hay all over. They think they lost because they had to make an extra trip with the chopped wood and when they saw Melinda and Erika running, they didn't run right away.

Adam said he and Steve discussed splitting the money. Looks like other challengers also suspected that “twist” since these are teams of rivals. Wonder what kind of contest they’d have had for winner take all. So one eating challenge followed by 3 physical challenges. Obviously favored the fittest and strongest team. Not even a puzzle right? They cast overweight people or those having physical disadvantages because that becomes part of the social game or drama. But if the Finals are endurance, speed and strength-oriented, all the drama is proven right.

Colorado to Barcelona. Lisa, a middle aged divorcee follows her daughter Annalise, who’s going To grad school. She had moved from CA to CO after her daughter and she’s following her again in another move. She wants 2 bed, 2 bath, so her other daughter can visit, want to be near her daughter and near the beach. She wants a modern open plan and furnished place for $2500. Also terrace. House 1 is in Gracia, has the number of rooms, for $2000. Rooms are small and it’s far from daughter. Terrace has no view, just brick walls of adjacent buildings. House 2 is in Eixample district, 2 bed, 2 bath, big rooms, nice terrace for $2900. An hour from daughter. House 3 is nearest daughter, farthest from beach. It’s very roomy but funky style and decor and multi-level. Lisa has a bad knee. Has a beautiful terrace though\. They eliminate House 2. Lisa says she would rather be closer to Annalise than the beach and she likes size an features of House 3 better so that is the choice. 3 months later they’re happy Lisa moved to same city. Annalise visits often or they meet for meals when Lisa is paying. Maybe she had a good divorce settlement though she’s also written a couple of books. -
This episode seem to be rationalizing why they will go back to Gilead. Again. Characters have to repeatedly show why they are going on a mission to risk getting themselves captured or killed. Goal of course is to kill Commanders. But was June really going to walk away, get Luke and Moira to go with her to Alaska, quit the struggle? As long as Hannah was in Gilead, she wasn’t walking away was she? You would think for 3 former captives, who all went through a lot to escape, they’d be very reluctant to go. Did they forget the PTSD, particularly June and Moira? June thinks as long as Nick has power, he will save her if she gets into trouble. Moira just wants to fight? She just bored of being free or just want veangeance? Luke also wants to be a hero? I don’t know if these motivations are believable. Show obviously has to have the main “Good Guys” get in the fight again. Been well-established that these characters have reasons to fight Gilead. But they seem to need to express this want repeatedly. Tone of the show is different now. We haven’t had the traumatic and intense scenes from the early seasons, when they hit you in the face with the brutality of Gilead. Maybe the characters have forgotten the horror so they’re more hung-hot Han they’d be just after they gained freedom?

Stanley Tucci's new show is finally going to air next month, on May 18th. Note the name change, it was going to be called Heart of Italy but now apparently Tucci in Italy. I created a new thread which has a link to the announcement.
-
So they announced a new show at the end of 2023. It was going to be called Heart of Italy. Now they appear to have changed name to Tucci in Italy, premiering May 18 on Disney +, Hulu, National Geographic. https://www.vitalthrills.com/tucci-in-italy/

I don't think they knew. Doctor just wanted to cut up her brain. Promos for the show have a close up of Ellie snarling "You swore!" So the lie seems to be the dealbreaker, no extenuating circumstances count for Ellie.

There firings seem to be for cause, not concocted for a TV show. Yet they happened to have 2 replacements ready to go next day. What are the odds they have people who can take over on a TV show so quickly? Maybe the Seychelles is a hotbed of luxury yachting industry, so plenty of able crew around. Or maybe production had these guys stashed nearby the whole time. But why would they bring two people all the way to the Seychelles, ready to replace cast members? Because they either anticipated firings or planned for them. Remember this is not a typical yacht charter operation but a TV show so it’s not a about staffing decisions so much as casting decisions. Also remember that Wihan apparently didn’t have experience working on board yachts so much as selling or leasing them. So how real was his job performance? How real was his behavior? Did being on camera make him act or do things he normally wouldn’t do? Did producers encourage him to behave in certain ways? Anyways he got a lot of screen time in these first 10 episodes so they milked a lot of drama out of his antics.

Why wouldn’t Joel want a cure? Well most people can put two and two together. But Ellie is young so maybe she hasn’t deduced that he prevented them from using her to develop a cure because it was going to harm her. That would be the most plausible reason that he got her out and away from the Fireflies and lied that there was no cure. I don’t recall if Ellie saw or learned that Joel fought the Fireflies before he took her away from them. But it’s not like they said bye to her and Joel and she left the Fireflies amicably.

Looks like she would have liked to have continued, to promote this thing that she's promoting. No doubt she would have worn that sports wear on the show. She also says she'd like to be on Southern Hospitality, the spin-off show. Oh well, too late, unlikely to have a success like Sewing Down South or even Trop Hop.

You should now be able to add this show to your DVRs First episode is on Barcelona and Catalonia. So a lot of tapas?

I like that Eli let Jesse drink the bourbon with the piss. But is Jesse even suppose to be legal drinking age in this episode? Already the kids are spoiled. Seems Eli and Aimee Leigh didn't care about raising their kids the way they were raised, from humble origins. Instead it's let them do whatever they want, speak to them however they want. Such a contrast in personality types between the parents and the kids. Eli is a preacher but not a fire and brimstone type, outlandish, loud, flamboyant. Aimee Leigh and Baby Billy, same thing, way different personality types. As successful as the Brimstones are, they certainly have a lot of enemies along the way. Are they polarizing? Again stylistically, they don't seem to be, yet people were hating on Eli and A-L just for trying to get a permit to build a huge parking lot -- understandably they don't want all the traffic brought in to fill a 10-acre parking lot.
-
I think she senses it but doesn’t know. They keep replaying the scene at the end of season 1, where Ellie asks Joel to swear. Presumably she will learn the truth when Abby and the vengeance crew start trying to kill Joel and she will have to take sides. Even then she might still be mad at him for lying to her, though he chose to save her. Ellie is not only reckless, maybe she has a poor memory? After the tragedy at the mall with the girl she liked dying, why would she lead Dina into that warehouse, like they’re going to play a game? She has a Get out of Jail card but Dina doesn’t. Joel says they shouldn’t let too many outsiders into their camp so quickly. Looks like there will be multiple threats to this place, including some infighting, like the guy who hurled a slur at Ellie and Dina.

I don't know that they're back in each other's good graces yet. They are calling a truce now because they need to deliver a hit. But the hard feelings may not be fully squelched and could arise again. I was specifically talking about Americana the brand itself. Near where I live there are places like that, luxury arts on top of retail, except these don't have many lower-priced food and drink options or a place where Kayla would be able to get her tits pierced.

Yeah Ani seems to have had many interactions with clients outside the club so when Vanya asked to see her outside, it didn't seem like she was doing something she hadn't before. He kept giving her everything. Forget which one of them broached the idea of getting married. Turns out he didn't really care while she did? Her sobbing at the end is suppose to indicate that? Some sex workers at least supposedly come to hate their clients. Though maybe since Ani is still young, she hadn't reached that stage, believed that she had found Mr. Right from one of her clients? It seems Vanya's parents could have more easily controlled him by cutting off his money. He wasn't allowed to drive all those fancy cars in that garage but he seemed to have unlimited budget otherwise, taking Ani and his friends on a trip to Vegas on a private jet. Even after he fled the mansion, seemingly with nothing other than his clothes, he had a lot of money to party at various places before they found him. Are there urban legends about children of Russian oligarchs staying in America and behaving anything like Vanya or did they concoct this character mostly out of thin air?

Palm Springs to Puerto Vallarta. Gay married couple want to change their llfestyle. One is winding down his career and the other wants to start his remote coaching business. They are looking for 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, office space which can be closed off, view of the ocean and pool. They want to be within walking distance of the Romantic Zone but not be in the Romantic Zone. Budget is $600k -- it's the usual one is willing to stretch the budget, the other isn't. House 1 is in an up and coming district but far from the Romantic Zone. Taniel says though that it has its own restaurants and shops and it's a new complex, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, an office, for $575k. But the unit doesn't have a sea view. The pool in the common area does have a sea view but that may not be enough. They like the place, maybe not the location. House 2 is near the Romantic Zone and the beach, 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath condo for $525k, $75k under budget. But it doesn't have a separate office, as the desk is set up in the second bedroom. The guy who wants the office says that they plan to host a lot of guests. The terrace does have a small ocean view and overlooks the pool, which is appealing to them. House 3 is at the top of a hill, 3 bed, 3 bath, for $675k, $75k over budget. It has beautiful ocean views from a big terrace. There's a doggy loft area under the stairs and they do have 2 dogs. However, they would want to make some modifications, mainly the lack of doors to bathrooms. They eliminate House 3 and they talk about the 2 choices. They decide that when they have guests, the guy working from home isn't going to be working so no big deal having the office in the guest room. 3 months later they're glad they made the move. -
But how many commercials is she doing that she can't leave NY nor does he want her to move there so they can marry and think about starting a family? The answer is that her cover story for not marrying him or living together was fake, as was their relationship. They needed a pretext to have her as a semi-regular on the show. It served both their purposes to have this show relationship, because they could feature it on SC for several seasons. She must believe that the additional exposure on SC led to more "business" opportunities. Now she probably thinks she got as much use out of being on SC as she needed and the relationship is over.

Poor Jason. Never watched any if the Real Housewives show. Still, poor Jason. And Daisy is coming over from BDSY? Poor Jason.

The three show creators and runners are fans of the actress. I am too. Obviously the cast likes playing off Kayla's over the top performance, especially Jimmy. I didn't know Americana was a thing, an outdoor shopping mall with apartments above them for people who don't want to cook or make coffee for themselves. They also are fans of the comic who now plays their new assistant. We will see on that one. Wow Winnie's home. Yeah the coyote is suppose to represent Ava to Deb. Coyote wouldn't budge and Deb had to back up and turn around -- though it looked like that road was wide enough for her to drive around it.
-
It kind of feels abrupt, the way Deborah flipped on wanting Ava by her side, when she finally triumphs. Last season started with their awkward reconciliation, because in their core they cared about each other. Sure they'd bicker but that hiking episode, which a lot of people dismissed, showed how they'd come to rely on each other, the way Deb showed her vulnerability, asking Ava not to leave her. Remember that while at the end of season, she was supposedly setting Ava free, to spread her wings, when she needed to kill in her guest hosting of the late night shows, she turned to Ava, not the writers she had been using. So for her to now say that Ava's comedy writing isn't broad enough, that while it was nice for Ava to shape the new Deborah Vance on her comeback, reinventing her public persona, now as late night host, she had to go back more to the Vegas and Tonight Show Deborah, it just seemed a little forced. I guess the writers wanted them to have conflict, at least in these first two episodes, so they find their way back to each other? So that if the show becomes a hit, it was hard earned, a result of both of them pushing each other emotionally? In the after show, the writers said that they wanted to turnaround from season 3 to 4 quickly, for continuity because of how things ended in season 3.

The Europeans and Canadians are ready to cut deals with Gilead because they have a couple of infants. Lawrence boasts that they cleaned up the toxic waste so birth rates are increasing again. Instead of being impressed, maybe these foreign countries should wonder if they shouldn't do the same? You know if not to improve fertility rates, to make it safer for their people in general? That way they wouldn't have to cut deals with a regime which routinely kills their own people. In any event Lawrence seems to think they can now expand NB but that other commander doesn't want to. Instead, he will play along, probably because he wants to bang Serena.
