House Hunters International - General Discussion

That one guy, the astrologer life coach, and Chipper Sarah brought out the worst in each other. I would hope that their decision to move to Amsterdam, one from NYC and one from Shanghai, was based on something more substantial than Daniel’s astrological charts. Like he must have had reasons to believe he would have clients in Amsterdam or at least he could still make money with the clients he already had? Guillermo was basically jobless, no more “digital marketing” money, so maybe he was willing to go anywhere. Presumably felt that their relationship was solid enough to move in together. House 1 was nice but it had a wet room shower and that spiral staircase? Well it is Amsterdam and they did have the canal. House 2 was okay, seemed to give them the most space. They really didn’t show how they furnished it. House 3 wasn’t so bad, would have saved a lot of money but seemed to be the smallest and maybe not their preferred area. -
These are supposedly restaurant owners and people in hospitality who are suppose to know about service and such. But they sent back Wagyu steaks which were cooked perfectly. And now a low tip, though maybe the producers wanted to make them look bad with the low tip.

Wow April 10th, what an unexpected surprise it's coming so soon. Season 3 ran from 5/2/2024 to 5/30/24 for 8 episodes, running 2 episodes on some weeks. So less than a year since season 3. Compare that to some other shows having 2 years or more between seasons.

The cable car is spectacular. But I guess the racers would just sit in and ride for 10-20 minutes, admire the view. -
Adair doesn't clean toilets. Bully for her if she can get away with it. Of course the new sous chef is pretty. Maybe she'll only add to the drama outside the galley. This show, compared to other BDDU, leans in on men wearing speedos -- forget the Australian term they used in previous seasons. So they'll probably have them do it a few more times, rather than make the women go around in swimsuits. Maybe Wigan's stripping experience and abs got him cast on this show. Yeah those cliffhangers never turn out to be as dire as they try to make them out to be. Probably some of the crew or at least the real engineers know how to deal with jet skis which get submerged. They knew how to drain it and then the cast got it lifted with the crane. They may not have known that they needed to drain it because it would have been too heavy for the drain otherwise.

That after show is funny, it sounds like the cast believes the Shep Sienna relationship was fake, after they find out that she was dating some NFL player. https://www.bravotv.com/the-daily-dish/craig-conover-taylor-ann-green-reveal-sienna-evans-secret-relationship-before-shep-split Of course some of us have been highly skeptical of this showmance all along except the difference is that she wasn’t the only one perpetrating the fraud. Shep and the show’s producers were in on it all along. They probably paid her (probably not enough) and paid her expenses when she showed up in Charleston. But you could tell by the time they were filming in the Bahamas, she didn’t really want to participate, especially that ridiculous dinner table scene where all the other cast put her on the firing line, peppering her with questions about this fake story line. It was the producers idea all along. If she were just some grifter or fame whore who pretended to be interested in Shep, the producers don’t have to put her on or even shoot scenes with her. Not only did they film her and film Shep and others talking about her, they aired all these scenes about the “relationship” and how Shep was swooning over her, how he felt she was The One, how supposedly crushed he was in that Bahamas trip. They don’t devote a lot of this season to this fake story line unless they intended to all along. They don’t waste money filming her or taking the whole cast and crew to the Bahamas unless they planned to put it on the air. And they certainly don’t spend all that time and money if she was the only fraudster in this DUMB story line.

But you’d think Bill would be more sophisticated than to fall for such crude messaging. Yet he thinks the Democrats were too beholden to the woke mob and didn’t come out forcefully against trans men competing in girls and women’s sports because they chose to die on the hill of trans rights.
-
It shouldn't have been a factor in the election but Trump spent millions to run those ads, pictures of trans men or men in drag standing over smaller women or maybe girls. So the subtext of those images was that these trans men were a threat to women or taking advantage of them in female competitions. If you remember, conservatives started on this a few years back with state laws barring trans from using school bathrooms for girls. They were laughed at for trying to make such a big deal but they kept at it with these anti LGBTQ laws and messaging. Trump in his first term was relatively friendly or indifferent to LGBTQ rights. He supposedly knew a lot of gay people when he was living in NYC. But conservatives believed they could exploit the issue and there were some polls showing those trans prison ads having impact. It shouldn't have been an important issue but maybe people reacted in a negative way, let their prejudices guide them in voting.

Wasn’t sure that was Cooper until the credits. Guess he’s a fan of the show and McBride. Elijah had a true conversion when his life was spared — he did pray to survive the battle, even though he hadn’t been a believer. So the founding of the Gemstone empire was somewhat legit, as the forefather became a true believer, after grifting and pretending to be a man of god. Maybe McBride wants to put these characters on a redemption path in the final season, as the Patriarch Gemstone found his redemption. Maybe they overcome their greed and venality and find true faith. Or at least become slightly less awful human beings. Last season, Eli regretted not raising his children better, not being a better parent, given how misguided and terrible his children had become. But do they need to have near-death experiences?

The articles Belinda read said that authorities wanted to question Greg but he was not cooperating. He has a lot to lose if Belinda suspects him of having a role in Tanya's death and goes to the authorities. So she should be getting out, going to authorities and telling her son not to come to that resort. Read on another forum that there is a particular town where that's a tradition and everyone is squirted. Not sure if they only target foreigners or anyone who happens to be on the street. Maybe Valentin knew that but in any case, looks like the women are ready to hook up, particularly Jaclyn, whose boyfriend hasn't been calling her back. In the Inside the Episode, the actors playing Gaitok and Mook said that Mook wants to be with a guy who's got a big job, which is why she keeps asking him about a promotion. Gaitok feels uneasy about carrying a gun, which Mook sees and thinks it means he's getting a promotion. Meanwhile, she inadvertently distracts him, potentially leading to a disaster. Looks like all the guest wanted to get away from the resort in this episode. Well Saxon is hoping to get lucky and Jaclyn just wants to let loose because of her growing realization that her boyfriend is dumping her. Rick of course wants revenge or his idea of justice. Piper may realize that Thailand may not be the place she was seeking for her spiritual journey, though once she and the rest of the Ratliffs find out what Tim's been up to, moving to Thailand may not be an option for her. Victoria is right about the shady types on that yacht, sees people who would be in trouble with the law back home. Of course, she can't conceive that Tim may also have engaged in illegal acts because she thinks he's a Boy Scout. Tim may not be chasing women half his age but certainly was willing to chase ill-gotten gains.

It's possible that at some point, Sienna decided that she didn't want to be a part of this circus and they pressured her to shoot these scenes. After all, what's in it for her? How much could they pay her? That scene with everyone at the table firing questions at her, why would she want to put up with that? Probably not getting enough money to continue the charade. Even if the relationship is real or was real at one time, who wants to have the "friends" of her supposed "boyfriend" giving her the third degree on camera? The cast members who've been on the show for seasons are getting paid well but what does she get?
-
There was the pandemic and then the writers and actors strikes. There was also reports of arguments in the writers room, like Stiller wasn't going to be involved and then decided he would be and was going to get a huge payment. Then they took 4 months to film Mark running those halls. So some of it was circumstance and some specific to issues behind the scenes of the show and some are some creative choices. I think the season has been pretty strong, the reactions to it seem positive for the most part. So maybe they have some momentum and have season 3 outlines done, ready to write soon if not already writing the scripts or in pre-production.

The Kyoto episode was wonderful but I can’t imagine that that these famous chefs still work daily in the kitchen any more. Like the soba guy, does he hand pull noodles every day or did he hire cooks and trained them to make the meals day to day for less famous clients while he prepared the food for Phil for the purpose of filming the show? Same thing with the Noma guy. How often is he working in the kitchen or serving courses to customers these days? The camera distorts reality, make people behave differently or at least break their daily routines. BTW, Noma guy did a show called Omnivore, which is about ingredients which changed cuisines all over the world. Really well done, not as entertaining as SFP but makes you reflect on how the food business has evolved within our lifetimes.

It may also tie into the tempers thing, like the chip can flip your mood or feelings. Mark said it helped with his grief. When he became an innie he wasn’t conscious of the supposed accident and death. But did it alter his emotions so that he couldn’t feel grief, sadness?

Maybe they roped off one side of the steps to the Buddha so that they could be filmed but if they went to the top, there would be public visitors there and the venue didn't want to completely disrupt the visitors so they didn't permit them to go all the way up. As it is, it was demanding for some of the teams to go up the distance that they did. -
Craig say he was an alcoholic seems like something out of Jerry Springer or some D-list celebrity going on his sobriety tour. Is this confession part of his brand? You know, addict turns his life around, becomes big businessman? I'm side-eyeing EVERY scene in this show.

It explains her scene with Helena earlier in the season, how aggrieved she felt that she was fired and not allowed to continue the work on the severance floor. She wanted Milchick fired and her job back. It wasn't some petty corporate climbing rivalry, she wanted to finish her life's work. She drew those diagrams and schematics when she was really young? So she was brainwashed starting when she was a child but you wonder if she's deprogrammed now. When people in cults are brainwashed, I'm not sure that they will deprogram on their own because they feel wronged or whatever. I think it usually takes an intervention. Thus, should Devon trust Harmony to help Mark complete the re-integration safely or could Harmony, regardless of her status with Lumon, try to undo the re-integration so that she can continue to experiment on severed people? It's kind of a leap of faith? I don't remember the first season when Harmony cared for her baby under false pretenses? Maybe Devon feels she has no choice, doesn't know whom to turn to and she doesn't seem too impressed by Reghabi. Cissy Korbel is still a true believer, despite still living in that desolate town, in that house way out from anyone else. So you wonder how easily Harmony would just turn against Lumon, which clearly has caused damage to the town -- she said it was older and more feeble than she remembered? Certainly when she was having that argument with Helena, she could have said "I invested Severance, not Keir, not any Egan." In fact, it's not clear that Helena knows the truth, just assumes her father invented it, not that he stole or took credit for it. She may know that her father is capable of stealing ideas or inventions but still may not know that Harmony is the inventor and that's why Harmony feels wronged.

They are still waiting on the book to be complete before starting to adapt for season 3. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/harry-potter-big-little-lies-pitch-hbo-1236155898/ I'm curious, was season 2 also based on a book? Didn't realize that the author was writing sequels to the original book.

For somebody so heartbroken, he wasn't so morose. After he filmed the goodbye, say what he had to say for the purposes of the show, he was joking, even smiling some. Because he really wasn't heartbroken. Sienna barely said anything to him or the rest of the cast. Seemed like she was captive and had to shoot those scenes. What a setup, a bunch of strangers asking pointed questions about her supposed feelings in all this. So fake, who in real life would put up with that, they'd simply walk away but she was obligated to film the scene. In real life, people wouldn't confront someone about something which is clearly none of their damn business. Yeah that's a showmance, for 2 shows. That charade will soon be over. And they're trying to set up Venita with JT. What a joke. What was it the previous season, Venita had a bf whom she barely saw and JT was suppose to be so into Taylor. What a quick switch, pair off two other cast members. Just maybe, people can find other people to date who aren't on the show? But if they are going to stay on the show, they have to play out these fake connections with other cast members. For instance, Molly first pursues Whitney this season and now she's waiting on Shep. Come on, she can find other men who are not on the show, if she isn't seeing someone already.

They wore T-shirts which said Salt Lake so maybe they're Mormons and wanted to have many children. -

On the singing task, they must have had flash cards because I can't imagine they memorized those verses in Cantonese. Plus they elongated certain words. -

The dating nurses barely survived. IF they'd have been eliminated because they couldn't get a taxi, it would have been a bad look to have them be one of the double-eliminations. Were they the only ones to have so much trouble getting taxis from the ferry or was it just editing to show them having difficulties but not the other teams? It would seem to be the former because they were one of the last teams to get to the Fork in the Road. Was it that the taxi drivers didn't want to drive way out of the way to a different location? Because I think maybe it involved crossing Victoria Harbor, from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon or vice versa. Or maybe the unpleasant possibility that because they were black, they had troubles getting a taxi. I don't know if that's a phenomenon in Hong Kong but it's certainly a thing in some parts of the US. I also suspect that the judges were told no more than x number of attempts, pass them even if they didn't really improve. OK, HK is a real long flight from LAX. I'm hoping the eliminated teams get to spend at least a couple of days there before being flown out. It would be tough if they had to fly out the day after their race. I believe it's about a 10-11 hour flight so for them to run off the plane and jump on taxis and race is difficult enough. -
Did Adam and Steve explain why they didn't pick another team of star holders? What they should have done was pick another strong team because their best chance to stay out of eliminations is to win the Dailies and keep winning them. So they should have targeted two strong teams, get one eliminated. However, the way the house vote went down, maybe the rest of the house will be targeting each other instead of them again. Daily was more about doing the anagram after they matched enough letters. The elimination, Big T and Corey were going to have difficulties balancing because of the difference in height and weight. Plus Big T seemed to have difficulty putting the top star on and keeping it on.

House Hunters International - General Discussion

These couples looked young so they may still be looking for what to do long term. Or maybe they're willing to take lower-paying job for a chance to have these experiences. When I was their age, I wasn't backpacking through Europe but maybe that would have been an interesting path. Even when I was working, my first trips abroad, I tried to save as much money as possible. I could probably have stayed at hostels but the accommodations were maybe one cut above, own bathroom, place where you could lock up your belongings without worrying about leaving your backpack. So a lot of house hunters were looking to move for a short period of time especially when travel blogs and social media were at their height and people wanted to showcase living abroad -- even if for a few months. I prefer to see people making longer-term moves but as long as they're not doing it for a social media stunt, these couples seem to just want to share an experience, maybe before starting families back home. -

Phoenix to Lisbon. Another young couple wanting a change, more driven by Ariel than Tucker, who wants it to be like back home in the phoenix suburbs as much as possible. Ariel wants city center, to be immersed in the new culture while he wants peace and quiet, outdoor space for their dog, more space and stay under their $1200 budget. So he’d be more open to living outside of the city. They want 2 bedrooms since they both will be working at home. This couple also seems to be taking advantage of a Digital Nomad Visa but they seem to be thinking more long term than the Valencia couple. They both talk about learning Portuguese. House 1 is in a suburb, about 40 minutes by train west of Lisbon. It’s 2 bedrooms for $1200. Ariel is not receptive to being so far away from the center of Lisbon. House 2 is in the center of Lisbon, 2 bedrooms but $1400. Tucker is wary about it being over the budget. It’s not fully furnished so they’re looking at additional expenses on top of a higher rent. No outdoor space for Luna, their dog. House 3 is also outside of Lisbon, 15 minutes by train. But it’s 1 bedroom with a little yard for the dog for $1000. Not ideal for both having to work. They eliminate House 1 and while Tucker argues for House 3 because of the lower rent, Ariel says why leave Phoenix if they weren’t going to try to have a lifestyle which would be a lot more different than living in the suburbs of Phoenix. Three months later they say they’ve adapted well to their new life and work. They don’t mention price at all. They say their dog is now a city dog — well there are parks nearby.
