  1. In this case, her mouth and teenage sensibilities burn away three quarters of her caloric intake.
  2. Maybe Isaiah kept him away from the pond?
  3. Aw, NCIS version of Jumpin’ Jack Flash. As soon as they dug up the account information pointing to Webb, I asked myself which was more likely: he’s guilty or CIA framed him? Only surprise was who. I really thought it would be the smug agent from the beginning of the episode. I really don’t expect anything new from this show, it has been around way too long, but I’d miss it if it ended. (I sort of feel like my parents, watching Bonanza).
  4. Yeah, there isn’t any definitive evidence to indicate what really happened. I think he’s avoiding Russel because he’s the most likely to have turned out being as twisted and manipulative as the father. How long can they drag it out? (Anyone remember “Red Sam”?). I don’t really care. They could drop that whole plot line as far as I’m concerned.
  5. I did laugh at her attempt to hide the sneaker. “What manner of footwear can this be?” (Bright red Converse from the 1990s). I think they’d know what rubber was at the time (maybe), but not used by a cobbler.
  6. Jacob does have a memory of the adult Kat. She found him during a town celebration when he was walking home. She didn’t identify herself as his sister (back from the future would have alarmed him). She walked him home and seemingly watched him go in the house and that was the night he disappeared.
  7. The clothes Kat dug up-bad writing, meant to alarm us. 20 some odd years later, in that climate, they’d be unrecognizable. They looked as if they were buried yesterday. Understandable to get rid of the modern clothing. The ship Jacob delivered must have been for the US navy..why? More money makes no sense as at that time the US was flat broke.
  8. Yeah, I really don’t get what they’re trying to convey with her persona/screen presence. It’s as if she’s on a bit too much Valium or something. Everything she does/says seems in slow motion, she never changes facial expression, and her “needs” for the practice are rather narrow/single minded. Her attempts to foist the financial pressures onto the staff are rather menacing.
  9. I took the Christmas gathering at the pub to be a solution/alternative to the usual Christmas Eve party at Skeldale, and a way for the community to share whatever local food was available. Mrs. P actually said to Audrey when she dropped off her contribution (that F & M “hamper”), that it was lovely of Audrey to “do this…everyone contributing”. I was left with the impression that Audrey organized it and everyone brought something from their farms. Yes, it was apparent that Mrs. P had never been to Drovers before, but she did attend the next day. It probably wouldn’t have happened if not for the war and Helen’s impending delivery.
  10. It seemed to me that the clothing designs were pretty, but the construction was very poor, resulting in a very frumpy-looking wardrobe. At the very least, everything she wore needed a good ironing. Was it done deliberately, to imply that they were barely keeping the household afloat, and she was relying on cast offs and hand me downs?
  11. His response (excuse) was offhand: “Well, I haven’t written it down yet.” I thought this was funny (flippant, sarcastic exchange). I think she may have been implying that Darcy and Byron had crossed paths or, worse, Darcy hadn’t the literary nor imaginative chops to create that himself.
  12. Max: “Lord, deliver me from loose cannons!”
  13. We know that Susanna is the “white witch”, we know who runs the town in 1814, we’ve known since last week that Jacob is returning home on a ship, out on the Atlantic and based on discussions, has returned. Those men in the woods-we don’t yet know what side of the war they’re on, but chances are, they’re siding with the Crown. In US politics at the time, some were promoting expansion into Canada, and I don’t imagine these rabble rousers want their farms to come under US Territorial rule. (The War of 1812, which lasted until 1815, was very complicated). Jacob was out to sea during an extremely tumultuous time in maritime history! If he is, indeed, back, he’s very lucky.
  14. Alice and Elliot were talking on his front porch steps near the end. She asked if he really had loved Kat all these many years, as she had just returned from seeing her parents getting engaged (revealing Elliot’s broken heart). He finally gave her the picture he took, as Alice had just seen it for herself.
  15. Jumper drove me crazy and took me many years to accept, especially when men were talking about them. We could not wear pants to school until they relaxed the dress codes when I was in high school. To keep warm, my school clothes consisted of wool jumpers (a sleeveless, collarless dress), turtlenecks, sweaters, skirts and knee socks (buy them big and you can pull them up to cover the knees).
  16. If it’s any consolation, the original series did not spend many episodes with the main characters away from the business. Tristan was seen doing office work in England and traveled back to Skeldale House quite a bit. Wading in the ocean!!!😂
  17. That episode went by too fast. Gathering at Drovers was nice, and the look on Helen’s dad’s face when Mrs. P put Tricky in the cradle was choice. I loved that Helen carved the log face in James’s absence. She needed to sing at least the first line of Auld Lang Syne.
  18. Barn Owls certainly do hoot (have a call). It’s remembered by the phrase, “Who cooks for YOU?” (Morse code-dot,dot,dash,dash-the last syllable louder). Just like the Cardinal’s phrase is “What Cheer -3x” Cornell ornithology lab has a great website where you can see pictures and listen to all bird calls, songs, alerts.
  19. Mary Mc has had a few series, none on channels I’m able to watch. I sorely miss her glib, smarta$$ self!
  20. You would have to see a record of descendants to understand how distant their relationship would be (very removed from the early 1800s) and so far all we know is the “Landry” record, where Del finally recorded Jacob’s death and Isaiah never entered his name in 1814.
  21. Great post. I share your sentiments. However, I predict excessive whining (with no rallying or helpful contributions) when the grid collapses. About Gerald, nice enough, but Audrey didn’t need to have another mate with scars from the war (WWI). I think he made a lot of progress (with Audrey’s help), but I’m also very glad he’s not headed for London because the blitz might just do him in mentally.
  22. I think they wanted to keep the fact that there was such an extensive breach of information limited to only the two agencies minimizing the risk. That said, surely there’s a US Marshals office in LA?
  23. Thanks. I read them in my teens, then became a stalwart fan of the series. FWIW, pbs was received over the air with a UHF antenna (I feel so ancient and totally confounded by the attitudes of today’s under 30s).
  24. Based upon previews for the last episode, Oscar will perhaps be moving. Does anyone recall from the books when Helen delivered their first child? Was it while James was serving, during the war?
  25. Money in Nash’s business account. Nash no longer has a license to operate that business, Scarlet was an employee, not a partner. Hence, Eliza is left high and dry.
