S03.E04: Don't Tell Annalise
Happytobehere replied to Tara Ariano's topic in How To Get Away With Murder [V]
Actually, if you believe the narrative that Frank killed Wes's father, then he was playing the role of avenging angel at that point. Avenging Annalise and her son and avenging himself because his dealings with Wes's dad was what put him on the path we currently see him on. That's part of why I think the body has to be Wes or Frank. Frank because he has gone too far. Wes because Frank can't logically come back into the mix with Wes knowing he killed his father, but this is HTGAWM and everyone is a killer or involved in covering up killings, so Frank's return might not phase Wes in the least. So while I want the body to be Nate, as the story unfolds, I doubt it. -
So based on what I'm reading, there's no reason to watch this. At this point, I'm just waiting for the episode that facilitates the Tom spin-off with Famke Jansen, maybe he can take Dembe and Mr. Kaplan with him and this show can just be done once and for all. So sad, so much promise blown to hell. They semi-course corrected by killing Lizzie, but back-tracked and brought the gaping black hole that is her back from the dead.

S03.E04: Don't Tell Annalise
Happytobehere replied to Tara Ariano's topic in How To Get Away With Murder [V]
I still say that I would like the dead body to be Nate. Aside from him being little more than a sexbot, I never thought he was that good a guy and I have never trusted him. I think I noted before that I highly suspect that his relationship with Annalise is a case of "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." I still think Connor is an option. Annalise's non-response to Oliver about who was dead after we saw her see and react to the body could point to this. Remember, Annalise still needed Oliver and his skills to help her coverup whatever she was doing (hearing of her financial troubles, I now believe that Annalise is in fact the person behind the fire). While I agree that there is still storyline to be mined with Connor, it is possible that the actor, who at least outwardly the person most likely to fit the Hollywood model of its "next big thing," asked to be released. This would explain why Oliver's role on the show was altered to explain why someone whose connection with the characters on the show is via his relationship with Connor remains affiliated with Annalise ad her crew. It could also explain why the presumed focus of this season (see below) was changed. However, with Laurel in the mix and her attachments/obsessions with Frank and Wes, I think the odds are tilting more and more in favor of one of them being the body: A) Wes seems to finally be happy and there was some sort of resolution to his story. Although I never bought that Adam Arkin's character was actually his father and thought his murder and Wes's paternity would be the focal point of the season. I mean, you don't cast Adam Arkin as the man behind the death of Annalise's baby, Wes's potential father to just kill him and move on, do you? So maybe the showrunners feel like they can move on because there is little left to do with him. B) Frank may have been pushed too far into the intentionally murderous corner, something the showrunners could have done to precipitate his exit from the show. Although as I said earlier, I think there is still a lot to mine with Frank and Annalise, Frank and Sam, and Frank being in jail. Of the two characters I would prefer Wes to go over Frank because Frank can still be a goldmine to the show. I mean, he's running with Annalise, so borderline psychotic who feels he is avenging innocent clients can work for at least another season. While we all focus on who it might be, at this point, I will shift and say I hope that both Asher and Michaela make it out of this storyline alive and intact. Strangely, I find myself actually liking them as characters and I'm moving toward at least being open to their coupledom. This is huge for me because Asher has always been the character I liked the least and Michaela has always been the just their and undefined character, absent her poor choice in men which was on display during the first two seasons. I was also pleasantly surprised when Bonnie was revealed to be alive as well because she never made an impact on me other than blah, so at some point, I clearly shifted in my thoughts about her without realizing it. Perhaps I only disliked her because the only other thing I ever saw the actress in was Scandal and she turned out to be playing a less than delightful person there. -

That was my thought. There is next to no chance that Laurel wasn't showing if Frank was the father. Plus, the doctors did not know until Meggy told them, so that means she is not visibly pregnant. However, it could be that Laurel and Frank reconnect in PA and that's when she gets pregnant. Although, at this stage and with her knowing how far Frank has spiraled out of control, Laurel would be stupid to have unprotected sex with him. I'm still hoping that Frank is not the dead body because just the process of his being reincorporated into the Keating fold would be amazing to watch. How do he and Annnalise move beyond what her realizing he caused her son's death and then the attempted murder of Frank (I actually believe her when she told Eve that she would never have ordered it. It took way too long for her to respond, we have seen how quick Annalise is on her feet and having planned this out, if Annalise wanted Frank dead, she wouldn't have hesitated. She acted rashly in a moment of anger, but I doubt she would have carried it out had Frank not killed the killer). Besides, someone like Annalise definitely needs a Frank on her team and unless they ff at least a year, I can't see her trusting anyone else the way we saw her trust and rely on Frank. Meggy still creeps me out. First we see her being way too invested in what is happening with Annalise; last week she runs Wes's license; this week she is snooping through his cell phone. Something is not right there. Given my feelings, it likely means that Meggy will just be revealed to be an overentitled social media savvy millennial. -

I know the scarf is supposed to be there because of her surgery, however, when you can clearly see MBE's hair underneath, it becomes comical. -
S01.E04: There Goes The Neighborhood
Happytobehere replied to WendyCR72's topic in Lethal Weapon [V]
I caught up on this show On Demand when it was raining on Sunday, and am surprised to find I really like it. Tonight's episode was great for all the reasons mentions. I do however have to say that Jordanna Brewster can't act at all and she runs every scene she is in. The actress or the character needs to be replaced. But I guess she is there to be a possible love interest for Riggs and I am not looking forward to that as seeing more of Brewster is not a plus. -
I know right. I would rather they just started the show in November and let it run straight from that point. I agree, about Jamal and in many ways, Hakeem is the most like Cookie (except he is straight stupid based on being raised by Lucious). This is why I have always felt that Cookie favored Jamal (the homophobic hatred from Lucious served to amplify that closeness) and Lucious favored Hakeem. The show tried to give us the Andre is mentally ill and Jamal is gay edit; and those things undoubtedly played a part, but at the root of it, Hakeem reminds Lucious of Cookie, so he got the favored treatment. Now I still think part of that favored status is rooted in guilt because IMO Lucious was the one who set Cookie up to go to jail.
-
This is why I'm not feeling this character, aside from the Taye Diggs factor, he intentionally allowed Cookie to dress and feel inappropriate for the occasion. No matter how much he smiles and says otherwise, this lets me know there is something sneaky and duplicitous about him. I say he can't be trusted and will continue to feel this way until I see consistent and credible proof to the contrary. Yes, Lucifer is reminiscent of JR Ewing and we need to honor that with a who shot Lucifer mystery. I hope Jamal doesn't just take Lucifer's word about Freda without proof, he knows what a lying, manipulative, sleaze his father is. Andre and Nessa will not end well. Loved him beating down Shine, thugs like that are always big and bad when it comes to sneak attacks and hitting women, but they can rarely stand toe to toe with a man, as we saw when he went for the weapon and his plan to come thugged up and gunned up. Can Rhonda's ghost be laid to rest? Perhaps if they buried her, she would stop popping up. Andre seemed sane and rational the entire episode until she reared her dead head. Hakeem is truly stupid, and now the world knows it. I see a whole lot of being played for a sucker coming his way. Becky needs to bounce, not only was she not given the job, a white, racist was hired instead of her. Know and show your worth girl and walk away with your man. Young Lucious is as awful a rapper as TH's Lucious, so that was solid casting. I find that the episodes I like best are the episodes that feature Boo Boo Kitty the least.

So. Joey has been returned unharmed. Couldn't one of the three have whacked him in the head, causing him to become a new, smarter and more worthy example of a Steve and Kayla child? No, instead we get the same dimwitted Neanderthal. Ciara, STFU! Can the ultimate purpose of this storyline be Fauxman's death. I just can't with Josh Taylor. -
S03.E03: Always Bet Black
Happytobehere replied to Tara Ariano's topic in How To Get Away With Murder [V]
Well, Bonnie is also off the table in "The Who's Under the Sheet Mystery," as well as in the newly launched "Who's the Second Body that can't be Identified Mystery." Strangely, I'm glad that she is not the casualty of the season. New game, new thoughts, one of the people, either the dead one or the badly burned one is either Lauren Velez or Meggie, who clearly cant be trusted because she is running Wes's drivers license. Who does that? Someone who is a little too interested in the life and times of Annalise Keating and company, that's who. I am more convinced than ever that either Nate or Connor will be revealed to be the dearly departed. A strong case can be made for either of them based on the developments of their characters this season. Nate is around way too much, why is he always there? Damnit get a job! However, the more I see of Nate and his insistence on being there, the more I feel like love isn't driving his actions, but rather, it's a case it "keep your friends close and your enemies closer." I'm trusting him less and less with each episode. Connor is getting the good guy edit, which is often writer speak for, we want you to miss this character when he is gone. Defendant of the week was pure garbage, if there is any justice in this world, he will get his just deserts while in jail. The Slap by Annalise and the takedown of the bitchy lawyer were the best moments of the show. What is Laurel's deal with Frank? I don't believe she loves him, so what's up? Is her father right about her only being interested in men who are unavailable. I'm starting to re-evaluate Michaela and Asher as a couple. I forgot about how damaged she was shown to be in season one. The engagement of the former boyfriend and her reaction showed hat she was still living in a bad head space. I think Asher r ally cares for her, despite the way the relationship began. They might actually be good for one another, so I'll step back for the time being and see where the show goes with this pairing. -

While I love Thao P. the show was wrong to bring him back as Andre. He should have been Tony. Andre is a deranged serial killer who was never a fan favorite unlike Joe M. as Stefano was at one time, and George D. as Orpheus was and continues to be. Andre's return is yet another example of the showrunners not understanding their show or their fans. The character of Tony was great and TP became a fan favorite for his portrayal of that character. Andre was a great storyline originally, but that was to facilitate what was a very well done murder mystery. Whenever people requested TP be brought back, it was because we wanted Tony, not Andre. The sad part is that with the darkening of the Kiriakis clan, Tony could have provided a great contrast, rather than another version of the same thing. He would have worked great as a source of support for Chad upon Stefano's death, the Abby debacle, and now as Chad finds himself tempted to walk the dark path. He also shared a terrific friendship with Marlena. However, we now get him trying to be a grade D version of Stefano, and it simply does not work. -
Current Plots Discussion: Actually Today's Episode

I love this entire post. I too agreed that the worse thing about this episode was everything involving Hope and Rafe. This saddens me because while I have not, do not and will not care for Rafe, Hope used to be a character I loved, now I cannot even stand her presence on my screen anymore. I so want Hope, Rafe, and Fauzman to all get their comeuppance and lose their jobs. It old be too much to wish for incarceration, since I doubt any of the characters will be held accountable for anything, rather, much like Hope's equally awful cousin Jennifer, the three will remain on canvass being sanctimonious and self-righteous. Abe was so great today, both in his friendship with Kayla (dear show, remember when Abe was close friends with both Kayla and Nicole, who should be there not just based on this friendship but because Brandon is her brother, she should be his emissary), love the shifts between Kayla being Abe's doctor, Abe being a former cop and current mayor expressing his worry over the Treacherous Three, and their just being friends and expressing their fears for their sons (Kayla fearing the worst would happen to Joey and Abe confronting what all parents of special needs children do -- what will happen to their child when they are no longer around). The scenes with Theo were equally great. Speaking of Theo, b***h-face much Ciara? You didn't think twice about dumping Theo when you thought you could sink your claws into what you thought was the "better deal;" now you want to worm your way back into Theo's life so he can be your fallback guy until the next "better deal" comes along. Well screw you Hope Junior. I might not be 100% Team Theo and Claire, but at least I believe that Claire actually likes Theo for Theo and isn't looking to throw him overboard the first chance she gets. Whatever her many flaws may be, that does not come across as being one of them. Loved the scenes with Marlena, John, Steve and Kayla, which should surprise no one. I just hope this leads to an actual storyline involving them that highlights the characters in their best light. Marlena always works when being a psychiatrist, we seeing the caring and compassionate side that helped make the character a heroine; John always works when paired with Steve and Kayla (has from the time he was Roman), it's as if the writers remember he is not stupid when they are paired; Steve works best when we see the anti-hero in him as well as the caring person Kayla fell in love with; and Kayla has always been compassion personified with a dash of common-sense concern, so seeing that way when speaking with Marlena, John, Steve and Abe as noted above thrills me. I love the remembrance of Orpheus' kids and his love for them. Marlena is correct, as much as Orpheus was driven by his desire for revenge for his wife's death, he was also driven by his love for his children. I agree that his bonding with Joey would be interesting, especially since I would love the character to remain on canvass. And no, I don't want Joey the fool or put upon chump, rather, I want more scenes like we got today where we, the audience truly get why Joey can forgive, because for the first time since Joey was aged, he actually reminded me of his mother, when he reasoned that everyone deserves a second chance (how many times did she say that to Steve and even that PoS Victor, who tried to have her killed more than once), while understanding why everyone else in town rails against Joey and his sympathy for Orpheus. More on point words have seldom been spoken. -

So Kate is aligned with the Dimeras? What about Phillip being her son and on Team Kiriakis? Will Lucas be Team Dimera like his mom, thus causing a split with Adrienne when she is put in a position where she feels the need to be Team Kiriakis in defense of Justin and Sonny, because I agree that I saw that old spark between Justin and Adrienne and I've got to say I'm liking it. Dario remains awful, but I'll take him over, "I'm so bland and pointless, I make drying paint look deep and meaningful," aka Rafe. -

I agree with all of this except, Joey knew full well all that Ava did and he really didn't care. He killed her after finding out that rather than sexing him up, which was his greatest desire, she only used him and wanted to get it on with his dad. So unlike the other cases (with the exception of Theresa, who I don't care for either), Joey was not some put upon victim out to avenge a on-going pattern of wrongs, or even someone who committed a crime in the heat of the moment, he was a monsterous brat who murdered Ava because he couldn't get what he wanted, which was her to actually be interested in him (the show might try to make us think he did it because of what the she-devil was planning to do to Kayla. I remember the scene where Steve told Joey all that happened, and that black rage came over him upon hearing about the sexcapades, and not after hearing plan to fram Kayla for attempted murder, IMO, Joey started plotting Ava's demise the moment he realized she had played him for a chump). He then figure out how to cause a distraction to get the police guard away from Ava's hospital room, and he coldly smothered her after she begged for her life. Sympathy or understanding cannot be ascribed to the actions of Joey Johnson, and I say this as someone who hated Ava and felt no sympathy for her when she got her comeuppance. If Steve or Kayla had killed Ava, I would understand and sympathize based on what she had done and was planning to do. Joey killed Ava because of what she did to him, the evil she did to his family, which he never to into consideration before just made it easy to justify his actions. -

I would love for this to be the case and not just because I want their child not to be, well, Joey, because there is no way that either one, especially Kayla would stop loving Joey and considering him their son, but because I always thought that was the reveal that was being planned when they found the kidnapped Joey and Kayla thought there was something different about the way the baby looked. I thought then, "Oh, this is why the show had the storyline that Kayla gave birth early and neither she nor Steve were able to hold the baby, so that when the reveal was made, we and they would remember it and it would make sense that Steve and Kayla could not tell that their baby had been switched out for someone else's child." -
I didn't really have a negative opinion of Claire or the actress who plays her, until they morphed her into a self-obsessed, narcissist, who insists on singing all the time, despite not being especially vocally gifted. It doesn't help that the actress isn't selling the evolution of her character very well. Days seems not to get it, but sometimes, hiring people with the chops to begin with rather than hoping they develop them along the way is the best course of action. A year and a half in and the only one who is consistently good is Kyler Pettit, that speak volumes to me.

I love all of this, especially your comments about Hope (I now hate her as much as I hate Jennifer, I think I like Kate more than them and that's saying something) and Aiden (I hate how they are treating the character and the actor, the show should be working to keep them both). I want Hope to go down so bad at this point that I don't care what ridiculous way it happens. The show should have held off on Chloe's return until the actress had her baby because I'm sick of her and everyone involved in this dud of a story. I don't care who the father is going to be revealed to be because everything Chloe has done has been downright stupid (don't want Deimos to know your pregnant, why not go to the small town where he lives and see him everyday; dont want to see Deimos, move in with the woman Deimos is involved with) and it makes me wonder what game she is playing. As for Steve and Kayla, every time I see them I wonder if Kayla is teary-eyed because she is worried over Joey, or if she is secretly frightened that Orpheus will eventually realize that there is no greater punishment than returning the murdering moron back to Kayla (the show really screwed up by making Joey a premeditated murderer, I just cant get past it and it is so bad that I dont know that recasting could salvage the character). I say send him off to some out of state school; bring back Stephanie; and think about recasting years down the road when his moronic misdeeds aren't the first thing we think of when we see Joey. -
I agree with this with the exception of Theo. KP is doing really well. He's the only one worth keeping. I dont know if Joey is a salvageable character no matter who plays him -- they never hold have turned him into a cold-blooded, premeditated murderer. I dont know if the character can come back from that.

Current Plots Discussion: Actually Today's Episode
Happytobehere replied to CatLady's topic in Days Of Our Lives
Kudos to the show for remembering and mentioning Brandon. Not only is he Abe's son and Theo's, brother, he is Nicole's brother as well. This would be a perfect time for him to return. Wonder if MC would be willing to reprise the role? I guess Abe getting shot is the storyline the show will use to reintroduce the character of Lani. No offense to the actres who originated the role, but that part needs a recast if they are trying to reboot the character. I for one would like to nominate Orpheus and his band of moronic marauders for a humanitarian award for kidnapping and gagging Joey and Claire, if they could have only have found a way to take Ciara as well. Speaking of Joey and Claire, looking at the actors, one would never guess that in actuality, Claire is several years older than Joey. Its sad, but the actor playing Theo is really the only one of the newly aged teens worth keeping. His angst as Theo frets over Abe has so many levels: He is forever impacted by the death of Lexie, he just lost his grandfather, now he has to worry about possibly losing his father. Not only are we watching the impact of his autism when he is faced with stress, we are watching the impact such a scenario would have on anyone Theo's age. He is terrified and it shows in convincing and believable way. I am glad that we are getting more John and Steve as well as John and Marlena, it goes without saying that more Kayla is always a thing of pure joy. I love those guys. Looks like Aiden's days are numbered. DC looks to be on the way out again, despite his being a really solid actor who is playing a character who could be a badly needed valid bad guy now that it seems that the show is making Deimos a grey character, which the show needs as well. Talent and potential once again gets the boot, but the perpetual dead weight that is GG's Rafe continues to hang on and be featured. Is the show going to reveal that Rafe is Taniel's long-lost brother, because he certainly is getting the Taniel treatment. Can the show please find someway to keep GD as Orpheus, deranged villain or not, I absolutely adore both the character and the actor. -
Well, McKay stated once that the Alzheimer's story that morphed into the Kiriakis whisper story was originally designed to phase Caroline's character out, with the change in regimes, that plan might be back on the table.

S03.E02: There Are Worse Things Than Murder

She said, "Who is it." This episode making Connor semi-likablemakes me think it is him. The character I want it to be is Nate, because again, what is his purpose on the show. The character I want to survive is Frank. -
This is exactly what I think the deal is and based on the way Goldie talked about Davis, I suspect that Charles now knows this too. Davis met this women when he hired a hooker and they began and continue to have their own little relationship, so she is his girl. She left his name out of it until he and Charley gave their above it all press conference siding with the team (how's that worked out for you since everyone affiliated with the team had thrown Davis under the bus). She won't take a payoff because even if it turns out there was no rape, she undoubtedly has the receipts to decimate Davis and she knows she can make a shit-ton more on the backend of this case. What happened to Charley at the auction was ore than arrogance and hardheadedness, it was yet another example (in fact, it was the second one in the episode and the third if you consider how last week's episode ended) that Charley thinks she can throw money at/buy her way out of anything. This is clearly a pattern. Ralph Angel remains a dumb f**kup, who has the nerve to play the wounded card when he is called on his crap. He had a whole lot of mouth when he was slamming Charley and Nova for wanting the sell the farm and his chest was all puffed up with his farming know-how. Now when we see that know-how is non-existant, he couldn't tell rotted cane, he hides from Charley rather than deal with blowing her money and showing his stupidity, and pretends they have a bad connection. Poor Blue, that's some parental pool he sprung from. Nova and Charlie were both right and wrong. I just want to know what their story really is. It's sad that his marriage makes me opposed to their relationship because I really do believe they love each other and work as a couple. So I am torn on whether this should be the end of the Calvin character. Why doesn't Aunt Vi go to work at the farm and help Ralph Angel. Dont know why Hollywood has apparently not told Vi about his wife or this child they had (I'm assuming the kid died and it contributed to the wif'e already fragile state, or served as the inciting incident in the onset of her mental illness). This secret troubles me because it hints at cracks in the foundation of the relationship with Hollywood and Vi.

We in NY got no episode today, instead we got coverage of the crash in NJ that had no information, just reporters interviewing random people who live or work in the area, but were not around when the crash took place. There was literally no point to the coverage. This is the kind of decision making that kicked the legs out from under the soaps years ago, and we see the state the genre is in today.
