S03.E06: Is Someone Really Dead?
Happytobehere replied to Tara Ariano's topic in How To Get Away With Murder [V]
No, they were planning on covering the murder up and Annalise helped them along. They were in the process of the coverup when Wes returned to the house and Annalise was there; hence them not calling the police. Annalise can't be blamed for a plot they put in motion before she was ever on the scene. They are the makers of their own downfall and lie and blame Annalise to assuage their guilt and absolve themselves of culpability; we should not be doing the same. Michaela was the only on who wanted to back out of the scheme and theoretically do the right thing. It is in these moments where we first see Connor and Laurel threatening and intimidating Michaela if she dares to tell the truth and upset their pre-set apple carts of life. -

I'm more concerned with casting younger for the character. Aside from the sexist part, older actresses, especially older actresses of color have it hard enough in the industry without being beat out of roles they are actually age appropriate for. I have no issue with Ms. Williams per se, I hope she flourishes in the role. I just wish we could stop treating older actresses like viewing poison. Asfor today's show, loved Steve and Kayla and the health check-up PSA, and the fact that my boy Orpheus is alive. Give 'em all hell, well giver everyone but Kayla hell. I assumed you the same thing about the drug, so either Marlena's skills as a doctor are up,for debate, or we got a bait and switch. -

I was a little kid at the time, but David and Valerie weren't teens, they were no younger than early twenties during the 1975/76 introduction of the character, at least that was my perception as a child based on what I was seeing. I have no issues with Vanessa Williams, but they should have cast more age appropriate. Casting younger women for men remains one of the unchanging bastions of sexism in entertainment and I would have hoped that by this time, the show would have shown some growth, especially in a pairing where such things won't matter. I mean Days isn't going to pair her with anyone but Abe, no matter who she has or lacks chemistry with (see Lexie)/ so why alter her age so completely. -

Given that Valerie was an adult in the 70s, 53 is too young for the role and makes the use of history ridiculous, but then again, this is Days where Marlena was possessed by the Devil, Andre and Victor are running around as free men and 6 or 7 year-old Joey Johnson is an obnoxious, badly acted, college student. -

If Hope/Rafe/Roman could stand on their own, the show wouldn't need to run Aiden. You have three trash characters but we are supposed to love them. I wouldn't give them a second thought if Hope/Rafe/Roman were written off the show. I still cant get over how the show managed to destroy 30 years of love for Hope. I could never stand Rafe and Fauxman has been a waste since his good buddy Corday gave him the role. -

Michaela Pratt: Shooting Star
Happytobehere replied to Chicago Redshirt's topic in How To Get Away With Murder [V]
I agree with all you have written. I too notice that people seem to be willing to slam Michael for things other characters get a pass on. I just have a problem with the word uppity in relation to black people because of its racial implication where white people used the word to refer to black peoples who didn't know and adhere to there place as lessers. I like to say entitled or above it all. This is not a criticism but rather a reflection. -

Not only did Nate cheat on his dying wife, he became involved with Annalise and ultimately received his initial suspension in season one because he was at the very least a shady police officer. So in no way should Nate be that low on the list. -
S03.E05: It's About Frank
Happytobehere replied to Tara Ariano's topic in How To Get Away With Murder [V]
I find it funny that so much of what drove the plot both this season and last is Laurel"s inability to keep her damn mouth shut. Laurel's diarrhea of the mouth was on display with Annalise and Wes when he was hospitalized and then again when he was looking for the truth about his mother. The battle of Frank and Annalise and his downward spiral can be traced back to her and now she's running off at the mouth about Bonnie and Frank. I feel sorry for aznyone who gets her for a lawyer, cause Laurel is unable to not spill the beans. -
I think I posted in another thread that I thought about the passing as well when trying to timeline the pregnancy and realized that Laurel is actually seen drinking two or three times after that scene, thereby throwing a monkey wrench in her knowing at that time. Notice how we can conclude that she is far enough along that a test could detect the pregnancy, but not so far along that the doctors who were getting ready to operate on her could visually detect a possible pregnancy. I lack the knowledge of how soon modern medicine could detect that (10 days?). I was hoping we'd get the sex scene this week, but the show knows people are speculating and will likely only reveal via flashback.

Thank you for posting this. I've been meaning to say this for a couple of episodes now, but I get caught up in what happened storywise and forget. I love this show so much, but I am always irked by the fact that the show clearly cast a young actor who would not morph into the adult we see. With this show, I am torn as to the meaning of it, far too often, such casting reflects white showrunners and behind the scenes people who acknowledge that they really didn't think of it the same way they would know not to cast a blue-eyed, black-haired child to play a green-eyed red-haired adult. SInce I love both the young and adult Randall and the show is doing such a bang-up job otherwise, I am hoping that as you said, they hired the best actors and hoped people could look past it, or perhaps, young Sterling was cast befor adult Sterling and the show liked the young actor so much, they simply decided to keep him.

Well, unless all the actors are trolling us, as Weil isn't the only one to say something along these lines, the "profound loss" basically eliminates Nate, while many viewers like him, I doubt profound loss would describe viewer reaction. I think that leaves Wes or Connor as these two mcharacters and the potential that one is dead seems to be provoking the most responses on this and other forums. I would feel a profound loss if it were Frank, but I don't know how many others would share that sentiment, especially after recent events.

This is where I'm at. I check the board to see if the ep was worth watch, when I see the Lizzie drama, I move on.

S03.E05: It's About Frank
Happytobehere replied to Tara Ariano's topic in How To Get Away With Murder [V]
Since Connor is sleeping on Michaela's couch and the mother mentioned the phone being in the couch and vibrating her but, or words to that effect, I concluded that the mother came to visit Michaela and Connor left the apartment without his phone for some reason. I think it is a red herring because it is so easily explained away. -

So. Let me get this straight, the only person who dies from this mess is Orpheus, the only one i wanted left alive. So very Dena -- big events, bad stories, you keep proving Ms. Slezak right. That moron of a cop needs to be fired. He had a whole lot of mouth when telling Marlena that she had a responsibility to tend to Orpheus, yet he incompetently allowed Orpheus to get his gun and then conveniently forgot his duty to protect and serve since when given the option to save himself or stay with the woman he was responsible for getting taken hostage twice-over, he said Dueces to Marlena with the quickness. Ass-wipe, of course he would be employed by the Salem PD. Still feel nothing for Jennifer. She did however disgust me when she spoke of losing Jack. In true Horton fashion, let's gloss over the dirt you did specifically to Jack, such as screwing your tan deity and throwing him under the bus every chance you got. I think she is such a vile, shrewish, harpie like person. She can go anytime now, as I cant imagine Alice and Tom would be pleased with who and what she has become. I called it in the last scene Justin and Adrienne had together that we were getting ready to see the recoupling. Also got mention of their other kids, perjhaps one or more will appear on the show. Sadly, it looks like Lucas is getting ready to be crapped on yet again. Speaking of Lucas, two things 1) He is a better person than I because back into the street is where little Miss Anne would have gone. 2) The limbo he is in now is why making Lucas a Horton was a terrible mistake. Making him a Horton cut off romantic possibilities for the character. -
I thought about that and then realized I liked it because the show didn't go with the default white perspective but instead gave us how Randall and the black families at the pool saw things.
-
I wonder if the favoritism is rooted in perceived status of the kids. Yes, Kate is "Daddy's Little Girl," but she is ostracized and picked on, as is Randall, so she he parents focus their attention on reassuring them that they are loved and special. As a by product of this, Kevin, the seemingly "okay" one gets lost in the shuffle. However, given what we have seen of his relationship with his siblings, Kevin clearly responded to Kate and Randall completely differently, and that was and is on him. I loved the interaction between Randall and William, and the way that interaction informed how he viewed the reaction of the white parents at his daughter's play. The conversation between bio dad and son was needed not just because it speaks to the special issues faced with transracial adoptions (loved Rebecca realizing that acknowledging Randall's reality didn't make her less his mother, but rather showed just how much she really is his mother), but because it speaks to the ongoing discussion of representation mattering. Kate is beyond insecure, she is imbalanced. It's bad enough she cyber-stalked Toby's ex-wife, she upped the anti to physical stalking. I can't imagine how this job thing is going to play out. Kevin's journey remains the least interesting. I'm all in with his siblings and parents. Hopefully that will change because I want to be equally invested in all the characters. Edited because I forgot to say how pleasantly surprised I was to see that Kevin seemed to have a real and genuine relationship with his neices. It speaks well of both him and Randall that they didn't allow their differences to get in the way of the generational, familial bonding. I also loved how Kevin handled WIlliam's presence.

Current Plots Discussion: Actually Today's Episode
Happytobehere replied to CatLady's topic in Days Of Our Lives
Today's episode was pretty good. Orpheus is such an awesome villain and he is played to perfection by GD. I so want his character to be left alive and somehow make his way back to the canvass. Andre sucks as a villain, please dispose of him and bring TP back as Tony; and the Kiriakis Clan of Dolts isn't moving me. Deimos works best as a gray character because it enables the writers to play to VI's considerable charms. For some strange reason, I don't remember GD being so much taller than DH (by the way, DH needs to trim his eyebrows, he's getting what I always think of as old-man eyebrows, you know, sort of bushy and scraggly). I was both confused and entertained by the way the show made Orpheus be all, about John because of Rebecca's death, while throwing Roman's name in the mix. I think it was the best way they could deal with all the retcon mess and John being not Roman and JT being Fauxman -- they acknowledged for long-time viewers that Orpheus was a character during DH's reign as Roman while throwing in that technically, the person he should be upset with is Roman (see show, this is what happens when you foolishly failed to reveal John as Roman once WN bailed for the second time). I love the way Steve nd Kayla are interacting with John, Marlena and company. I especially love how Kayla is being written as of late, her concerns for safety and common sense are still at the forefront, but she is acting like who and what she used to be, Steve's partner in the fullest sense of the word. She never had the guns and stuff like Hope, but she was always in the mix and she always had Steve's back. I know this won't last because Dena is Dena and she has never treated Kayla well, I still feel in my bones that she is going to interject her beloved Ava back into this show to make my girl's life miserable and Steve will once again forget how close he came to losing her and go back to being the guy Kayla (and I) began to feel like she would be better off without. I loved the John and Marlena moments and Steve coming in to rescue John. It befits his character and their history when John was Roman. When I was watching all these scenes, I wondered if any character outside of Orpheus who I clearly want left alive will be killed. This is really the best way to facilitate a character's exit. I doubt this ill happen and if it does, it will undoubtedly not be one of the characters I would knockoff, but I am curious to see how this plays out. I really like Gabbi and Chad. They are better matched than Gabbi and JJ or Chad and Abigail and far more interesting in terms of emotional investment. Based on this, I will start to ff their scenes because we know Chad and Abigail will be shoved down our throats until we begin to regurgitate and find ourselves hate watching again. This is why I said Abigail should not have been recast so soon. I don't know if it is a sign of how far the character has sunk, how embittered I've become towards her character, or a combination of both, but I felt absolutely no sympathy for Jennifer when she had that bomb strapped to her. All I could think was, here is yet another opportunity for the sanctimonious Horton harpies to have what the show thinks is a touching moment after they have ruined Hope and Jennifer for so many viewers. No scene with Rafe is ever worth watching. GG has done the impossible and made AM a ff moment for me. Orpheus already had his gun cocked, Steve shooting him would likely have resulted in Orpheus spasming and his finger releasing the trigger, thereby killing John. -
I assume that Eric will be revealed to be the culprit simply because the person Juliet Lewis was focused on last year was innocent. How can the show keep; positing her as a capable investigator if she is always selecting innocent people to be killers. This is sad becauseI actually think that there are better candidates to be the guilty party. I hope I am wrong, but...

Well, if it helps any, Empire not airing this week is due to the final presidential debate, not baseball and with the way that sideshow is going, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a political version of ghost sex, so you can look forward to that.

Frank remains a completely vile and useless PoS as does his equeally despicable, thieving, rapist of a daughter. I hate both characters and would love for them to just fall off the face of the earth. Continuing with the show's delightful portrayal of black people, Carl's girlfriend is revealed to be a selfish, uncaring tramp; Frank and the piece of trash he is with find it perfectly acceptable to name a black boy after his rapist daughter and refuse to recognize that what they are doing is disgusting; Frank gets two new black children and neither of them is Liam; Liam, the only non-f'd up Gallagher is being ruined; and this new storyline with Vi is just awful. At least the show hasn't forgotten that Ian has a mental illness. Frank seizing possession of a home and inviting the homeless to live there -- now that is the scene that SWAT would have been called in for.

S03.E04: Don't Tell Annalise
Happytobehere replied to Tara Ariano's topic in How To Get Away With Murder [V]
I thought this too until I realized that Laurel was drinking when she was with her father in Mexio, and she appeared to be drinking at Wes's party. Either way, we should know by next week, in order for Laurel to be detectably pregnant in four weeks, wouldn't she have to hookup with someone next week? If there is no such connection, that leaves us its Frank as the father and definitely under the sheet, if for no other reason than the drama that will bring.
