  1. Gail is hosting Iron Chef Canada. I don't know if the two shows filmed at the same time, so that could be a reason why she's not around. A poster upthread mentioned, and one of the things that I really like about the American show is that they host in a different city every time. The Canadian version is always in Toronto (conveniently where one of the judges has a grocery store where the chef-testants get their groceries). I learn so much about the culinary traditions of various cities/areas in the US by watching, and wish I had the same opportunity for my own country.
  2. I haven't seen this episode yet, being in Canada, but I love your reference to Luka on the 2nd floor.
  3. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it. I’ve had a few that I like, but they were the ones that I tasted when doing juries for my farmers market. It’s huge at the markets, and they sell a ton, with a wide variety of flavours. I do live on the west coast, where I’m assuming that it’s more popular than other parts of the country.
  4. Dustin Nguyen! He looked familiar to me too, and according to Wikipedia, he is based in Vietnam now, still acting, so it could be him. Thanks @mansfolly for giving me great 21 Jump Street memories!
  5. I can't speak for Kenya, but I have friends who don't want their child's photos on social media, so this is a way to do it without showing their faces. For my friends that did it, they were politely intentional in the birth announcement, asking that people respect their wishes and not post photos. Having said that, I think I can assume that this is not why Kenya is choosing not to show full photos.
  6. I'm just glad that Gary proudly rocked his clock radio--I'm not the only one out there!
  7. I’m really old, because when Jack mentioned going to school on a cruise ship, I immediately thought of Breaker High—not Zack and Cody (hope I got their names correct).
  8. Something that I just realised is that the models in this show aren’t always the typical body size that one might expect. They seem to have models of different sizes, but don’t make a big production of it. I appreciate that.
  9. I’m looking forward to a new season too. What I would love, though, is if they travelled somewhere other than Toronto (or Ontario). There are such great culinary traditions in our country, and this would be a great opportunity to show it off.
  10. Kind of. It’s canadian, so not sure if it can be viewed in the US. They begin with 4 contestants, and after each challenge, one is eliminated, so by the end of the episode, there is awinner, who earns $10,000 (though, being Canadian, it should have been in Canadian Tire money). I like it, and it gets some sewing and fashion on my tv.
  11. I got through the intro and had to turn it off. Over competitive helicopter parents is not my idea of watchable tv.
  12. I'm Canadian and it officially becomes legal here (in the country) on the 17th. Apparently, they stated on the news that there might be a pot shortage. But, I digress. As someone who comes from Jamaican parentage, it bothers me that their first thought of Jamaica is pot. It's so much more than that. I like that Kelly took some time to research about the country (and I never thought I'd ever type "I like that Kelly...").
  13. Isn’t recreational pot legal in California? Why would they need to buy it in Jamaica when they could get it at home?
  14. It’s always on the news, but I don’t have any stats to back it up. I live in a condo, so it’s not an issue for me, but I’ve seen many news items of people who’ve had their packages stolen off their front porch. ETA I just read a stat that stated that 30% of Americans said they had a package stolen from their home. I don’t know what Canadian stats are.
  15. Hope that you have a great time in Vancouver (bring your umbrella--it was pouring here this morning). If you ever want to make them for your American friends, I highly suggest this recipe from Canadian Living. It's my go-to recipe, and hasn't failed me yet.
  16. Joe is currently a judge on the Canadian version of Project Runway, called Stitched (Project Runway Canada ran for about 3 seasons around 10 years ago). I quite like him as a judge on this show, and agree that he would do a fabulous job
  17. It's funny, as I had always thought of it just as a meringue, differentiated from the Italian and Swiss meringues. It took me a moment to understand what they meant by French meringue. Then again, I'm not on a baking show, so I can get away with my ignorance.
  18. I haven't decided what I think about this format. If we thought that the timeline in PR was too short, this is almost bordering on ridiculous! It could be interesting having different contestants on each episode. They don't get as tired as they would on a typical reality show, and there's no room for people who like to create drama. On the other hand, you don't get to see how their skills develop over the course of a show. But, it's Canadian, and in the absence of Project Runway, I need some sewing show in my life.
  19. Was it Expressenz who on this show did exactly that? Multiple turns a la seconde in every single number? While it was impressive the first time that I saw it, it got old the second time, and I know that I would have loathed it if they continued in the competition.
  20. While I'm totally sad to see Heidi and Tim go, I've started thinking of replacements (plus, I'm waiting for a program to load, and need something to pass the time). Andre Leon Talley would be fabulous (just because I want to see more of him whenever I can).
  21. I watched both episodes and really liked it. I totally have Sly and the Family Stone's song in my head, and will be playing it nonstop for a while. I watched from Canada and have a question about the commercials. During the (many) commercial breaks, all I saw were the same 5 ads for other BET shows. For those watching it in the US, did you have actual commercials? I got to the point that I could recite the BET ads verbatim.
  22. Mr. Hula-la, after watching Darius, stated that it’s not fair that he’s on the show, as he’s clearly miles above the other male contestants. I agree with him. Darius—you were too good for this show and you will be missed. And, as my user name implies, I understand Tahitian dance. They weren’t horrible, but they weren’t great. I guess I should be happy to see Tahitian on tv, but not in this way.
  23. Thanks for the info (and for saving me some tax dollars)!
  24. I’d gladly pay a dollar more in taxes for a commercial free GBBO!
  25. While I’m happy for my American friends, as a Canadian, I’m sad. I’m guessing that the CBC has the Canadian rights ( so it won’t be airing on Canadian Netflix), so it’s currently airing the new season. But, as it shows commercials, there is no technical bake shown. I was looking forward to seeing the whole show when it was shown on PBS.
