The Great Food Truck Race - General Discussion
GiandujaPie replied to a topic in The Great Food Truck Race
Really glad they are again going from city to city and state to state. Staying in one city the entire time is boring and allows them to always rely on the same following by always parking in the same spots and it didn't always seem fair. I was really surprised to see the Filipino truck being one of the bottom 2 in the first elimination. Was it really that the ube donuts took too long and people didn't buy from them until those were ready? I thought they were selling some of their other food. Hope Bao Bei is able to find a way to make their baos in time for the challenges. If there is no way to pre-prep any of their food, a lot of recipes would need to be retooled. I agree that they should have changed their name to Night Market or something that would have given them more flexibility. Cooks with Passion isn't going to be around long if they continue to be disorganized and have dishes that are too complicated. They might have good food and I guess if they win the taste challenges that awards them bonus money in their till, they might be able to ride it out for a while. -
The victim and suspect/defendant both work in the DA's office. No way that this wouldn't have been handed off to another county to investigate and prosecute.

So far, this doesn't seem that much different than the Fatal Attraction series with Joshual Jackson, other than that Carolyn isn't a psycho (that we know of) like Lizzy Caplan.

Well it turned out to work as a series finale since I guess they edited out anything that would appear to be a cliffhanger. I know Penny and Jack were a little annoying but I'm glad they didn't go the route of Penny and Chris actually realizing they were in love when Chris finally wakes up from the nerve gas poisoning.

You'd be amazed at how many people fall for these types of scams. So many people have this fantasy of being "discovered". Even people like the actress turned psychologist who should have known better took a chance just in case it turned out to be real, but she was savvy enough to bring a "bodyguard". Also, as others have mentioned, it is known to happen, especially for things like reality shows. Especially in a place like LA, where so many people secretly harbor this fantasy. When I lived there, I was approached multiple times even though I don't consider myself that type and while I'm not interested in being an actress or model, it is flattering to be approached in that way.

Re: A Deadly Scream Not sure what to make of this one. The entire case seemed shady from the get-go. I don't think the brother had anything to do with it but seems weird that he saw this pretty much happen. The investigation seemed botched, prosecution did not prove anything other than that the defendant was an idiot. Their "star witness" was anything but credible and I couldn't believe it when they showed a clip of the judge saying that he was! Most of the interviews seemed to be from 2017. So the only thing that has changed is that the star witness basically recanted and said he lied and that the convicted guy has a psychiatrist who is convinced he didn't do it.

Unfortunately in LA, it is much too easy to prey on women with that scam as so many are there exactly for that purpose. Even the ones that claimed they were aware it was likely a scam still went along with it (although brought along a witness) on the off chance that it was a real opportunity. I lived in LA during that time period and while I'm no raving beauty and had zero interest in being an actress, I had plenty of people attempt something like that with me and I also learned that in LA, you really can't judge how connected someone is in the industry based on how scuzzy they might look. And Kristi told her parents she wanted to be a makeup artist but clearly deep down she harbored the same fantasy of being discovered as a fresh young beauty in Hollywood. The police and media never reported on the details of the specific outfit so how could it be that those women all managed to come up with the same story if they were all lying, as Victor and his attorney contend. Did they ever say why he was so particular about that outfit? If this was a Criminal Minds episode, we would have found out that his mother was a prostitute and used to parade around the house wearing that outfit and flaunting her sexuality in front of him when he was a child. I also found it striking how so many of the women had the same look and then he also moved onto blondes. I wouldn't be surprised if more previous victims come forward after this episode. At the time it happened, I'm sure there were more women who fell for his James Bond casting shtick but maybe because they left before he was able to attack them, they didn't think to say anything, as this is a common scam in LA, or if they were assaulted maybe they were too embarrassed at the time to admit that they fell for the scam.

Laura's table did look the most appetizing along with the fun and whimsy of the baklava ring. I imagine that this challenge was the most difficult for those who are not strong in the visual arts which Michelle admitted was not where her strength was. As for Kaleena, I thought she'd be stronger in the quickfire challenges as she was successful on the Food Network competition shows she was on which appear to require being able to think quickly on your feet with surprise ingredients and being able to do them fast.

Fabio the celebrity hairdresser. I had never heard of him before this episode but I found this to be pretty interesting. The salaciousness of his wife hooking up with a former porn star was quite the twist and I don't believe for a second that she wasn't complicit in it somehow. How did he know to grab the hard drive where the security camera footage was stored? And I bet that she gave him the idea to dress up as the Knock Knock Burglars. What I found apalling was that she allowed her daughter to be the one to find her father dead, and in such a gruesome state.

Spring Baking Championship - General Discussion
GiandujaPie replied to Aethera's topic in Spring Baking Championship
I think they should have just given them one extra hour so that the decorating would have been better. If Steven had had that one extra hour, i bet his cake would have been even more stunning. Glad he won! -
I agree. If he had had consensual sex with one of the girls right before they were murdered, why wouldn't he have just said so when they first arrested him and brought him in? When those girls were found murdered, why wouldn't he have come forward then to say that he had seen them that night? Other witnesses came forward - oh yeah, they had nothing to do with it and nothing to hide! And his story that the sex was consensual was ridiculous. So JB makes plans to go to a party with her friend, gets lost, asks for directions from another teenager and her mom and then decides to also call some random guy she met while working at JCPenney and ask him to come over so they could hook up while her friend waited in the car? And I agree, after he confessed to the "infidelity", why would his wife continue to back him?

This was a weird Restaurant Wars. It definitely seemed like the judges all had vastly different experiences. Each group definitely started off well but got more frazzled as the evening went on so the second restaurant that the judges went to all had more negative comments and experiences. I don't understand why all of the chefs don't do what Danny did and have pre-printed tickets so that the servers only have to check off what is ordered. And what is up with getting table numbers confused and taking the food out to the wrong table? Is it really that hard to remember each table number and take the correct dish to the correct table? I thought Laura did do well as FOH as she was calm and looked elegant. Personally, I thought the challenge should have been that for each course, they would have to have a vegan or vegetarian option available. There is no point in having a vegan option for an entree but no vegan options for an appetizer unless you just don't want that person to get an appetizer.

This was a pretty good episode with an interesting case. Not sure why they got rid of Rollins to begin with. I wouldn't mind if they brought her back. Although during her "undercover" with the perp, I kept thinking she was getting dangerously close to entrapment, or at least giving the perp an excuse that she was flirting with him and so it would have been consensual. However, it was a good way to get his DNA. I bet there would be more cases out there that were never reported because the brides would be too traumatized and embarrassed to report it.

The Hungryland Homicide I'm surprised the 20/20 forum doesn't get as much activity as the Dateline forum. Anyway, this episode had a case that I had never heard of before. I have a few comments: They wasted all that time on red herrings like the ventriloquist and pastor, going so far as to include them in the episode description when they had nothing to do with anything. And they made the pastor look bad when he had done nothing wrong other than refusing to take a polygraph. My husband is a lawyer and he says that refusing to take a polygraph should not be used as proof of anything, as he would refuse to take one unless a warrant was issued but since they're not admissible in court, what would be the point. The DA or state's attorney seemed like a colossal A-HOLE. Wanting to blame everyone but himself for the crappy deal he ended up agreeing to with the defendant. If the defendant is offering up a plea so quickly that includes substantial prison time, wouldn't that be a red flag that he he's hiding something? Why would you agree to a deal only 2 days later before you had a chance to do some more investigating? And for him to blame the military for not taking jurisdiction just because he ended up being made a fool of by the defendant and defense attorney. Maybe he should have consulted with the military before agreeing to the deal he made with the defendant. Also, I'm surprised that Steven was able to clean up and cover all his tracks as well as he did, other than the surveillance videos. Are we to believe that there was really no blood evidence at all? If he cut her up in pieces, it had to have left some blood evidence in the car or in one of the homes. Did they not luminol either of the homes? Another thing that I found amazing was that Steven never asked for an attorney during all of his interrogations with the police. And even when the DA got involved, you'd think he would have wanted to make sure that a legal aid attorney was involved just to make sure that Steven didn't later try to claim that he was denied an attorney. Anyway, Steven just seemed like a total sociopath.

Lots of weird things about Dr Sills and Susann. First of all, yes I agree it was creepy that she was originally a patient of his with her first husband. Makes me think that her first husband wasn't as well off as Dr Sills and she decided to trade up her lifestyle because he certainly wasn't physically attractive at all, and her family admitted he was an odd duck and socially awkward, as well as that woman he tried to have an affair with. Seems like he benefitted from a reputation as a well-known and successful doctor with money, despite any shortcomings in the physical attributes department. If Susann was walking around the house carrying a large steel pot and she dropped it, there is no way that would not have made a large enough sound that would have woken up everyone in the house.

All of the dishes were amazing. For scoring, I wish they'd gone with how many flags each team actually got as opposed to a winner take all in each inning. However, I guess it's akin to leaving hitters on base without scoring. It doesn't matter how many hits you get and how many players get on base, you still have to send them home. Soo's corn dog did sound interesting. There is a Korean corn dog restaurant near my house that I keep meaning to try. Hot dogs are apparently popular in Korea due to the large number of American military stationed there over the years.

I had no issue with Remy hooking up with that lawyer in Missouri - you could see that coming from a mile away. What I like about Remy is that he likes age appropriate and strong women. That judge he dated who broke up with him was similar in that way. Not all men in their late 50s/early 60s want to date women 20-30 years younger than them. It's like how people freak out that Keanu Reeves is dating a woman who keeps her gray hair. She's age appropriate but she's still younger than he is! I don't know much about air marshals but if he was off duty would he still be allowed to openly carry his weapon? I didn't understand why Hana was flying commercial - didn't they use the FBI jet to get to Missouri?

Never watched any of the NCIS shows but started this one because of it's location and ended up loving the cast. I really hope they reconsider. As blackwing says, if SWAT can be cancelled and uncancelled twice then why not this one.

Another show that I watch on network TV getting cancelled, even despite decent ratings. The broadcast networks all complain about losing viewers to streaming but then they go and cancel the shows that people are actually watching. This show is way better than NCIS Sydney with better characters and better actors. Why wouldn't they at least put this show on Paramount Plus? At this rate, I'm going to have very few shows to watch on network TV. And I'll be even more reluctant to try a new show as they all seem to get cancelled after 2-3 seasons, if they're lucky.

Cashing In: CSI: Vegas in the Media
GiandujaPie replied to Meredith Quill's topic in CSI: Vegas (2021)
Well that's disappointing. Seems like a lot of the shows that I watch on regular broadcast TV are getting cancelled despite decent ratings. I know the networks complain that viewership overall is down, but when they keep cancelling shows that do decently in the ratings, it makes it hard to invest in new shows. It's like they are pushing us to streaming platforms or to just not watch at all. -
Lots of problems with this episode. First of all, I don't understand why if the verdict hadn't been officially recorded, why they did not just replace the rogue juror with one of the alternates. The rogue juror was not deliberating in good faith or in following the law so she should have been replaced with an alternate. Second of all, I don't even know what there was to defend. How can it be legal to take a minor away from her parents without their consent, even if you and her claim it was consensual? She is not old enough to consent to something like that. This wasn't a case of custodial interference or even 2 teenagers running away together. This was a disgusting older man who took a child away from her parents. Even if there were aspects of their time together that she may have enjoyed, there is no legal justification for what he did. There was no reason for the jury to reach any other verdict other than guilty unless they were going for jury nullification. And I just don't understand what was the point of the mother exchanging gross pictures with the perp. What was she hoping to accomplish?

So 2 people with children together should never travel together on a plane?

I thought the episode was pretty good. I like seeing Nina and Scola together but the argument/debate over mitigating risk seemed stupid considering they both have super dangerous jobs and are always getting shot at. If Scola was that worried about risk and ensuring that little Dougie didn't end up an orphan, then one of them should be taking a desk job. I may have missed it, but I thought there were 3 people involved in the torture and kidnapping of the retired FBI guy. They got the 2 brothers, but did they ever say who the third person was? I don't think it was that older white guy, or was it? Also, it seemed strange to me that Nina kept saying they had to book flights to Napa. For most people, if you are going to Napa, you would fly into the Bay Area or Sacramento, maybe Santa Rosa, but not many commercial flights into Napa itself unless you're rich and flying a private plane to their small airport. I live here so something like that stands out to me. But speaking of being rich, didn't Scola at one time say that he had made a lot of money in a previous job? I like seeing them as a family in a more realistic small apartment, but I thought he would have more money for something more spacious. Maybe even in a house in the suburbs.

It never occurred to me that the body in the truck would be Sam. Any idea why it would be? I missed how the cases might be connected. I just thought it was hilarious that Stabler would be able to go undercover again and nobody would recognize him. Although I suppose after a couple of years, people forget. It also looked like the woman who first took Stabler in and got him a beer while he waited for Boone, she is looking like she's also an undercover, at least from the previews. Did anybody else get that? A couple of funny moments in this episode - Jett and Reyes as a couple who have a foodie blog and Mrs. Stabler upset that Elliot and Randall "ruined" little Joey when they started hanging out with him. It was sad to see Joe Jr's addict behavior, but I'm glad all he did was grab the baseball and he didn't actually physically harm his mother.

Re: Kaitlin Armstrong/Mo Wilson episode on Friday. The new information that I thought was more interesting is the fact that Kaitlin tried to escape custody but was caught after running for about 10 minutes. The footage was pretty funny and I wish they had shown more of it. I also thought it was interesting that the jury took less than 2 hours to convict. Bet that humbled the arrogant defense attorney who was interviewed on the first version claiming that all of the evidence was wrong and that his client would be exonerated. My husband and I were very interested in this case due to the Costa Rica angle. We first heard about this case as we were planning a trip to Costa Rica so we did get kind of a kick about her trying to escape there and then getting caught due to the yoga mat she was spotted carrying around in the airport. Looking back, I'm sure she wishes she had just bought another yoga mat once she was in Costa Rica instead of bringing her old one. LOL We also thought it was very strange that Kaitlin seemed to go from a normal person (albeit with some red flag jealousy issues) to a murderer pretty quickly. Usually there's a sign of a person potentially escalating their jealousy towards murder. I'm surprised that neither Dateline or 20/20 ever dug up a former boyfriend or a former acquaintance who could say that she definitely had an insane jealous streak. Anyway, it does seem like such a loss that Mo Wilson was murdered as she did seem like a great person. Kaitlin definitely should have aimed her ire towards Colin the boyfriend instead.
