  1. I'm glad he took the plea and spared the expense of the trial. There's no guarantee that the prosecution would have won anyway. His attorneys were throwing so much information out there to try to get some doubt to stick. I understand that some families were upset and wanted him to admit why he did what he did, but I'm not sure that there is a real reason. I think he just wanted to see if he could do it and get away with it. And this wouldn't have necessarily come out at trial as this is not something that needs to be proven and the defense certainly wouldn't have offered this information up. He will get consecutive life sentences so he won't be getting out.
  2. Wow, this is the first episode I felt like commenting on. Simon is a creep. He preys on young vulnerable women. How old was Micky supposed to be when they met for the first time at the PYC? And his current wife/gf also seemed very young and looked and acted like she was being abused. It was heartbreaking to see Thomas hang onto his father's leg like that and how disgusting that Simon just pulled away. Not even a little hug or any kind of affection. I am curious to see exactly how Micky ended up as a police officer given her family background and her relationship with Simon.
  3. Not sure why Dateline rushed the Karen Read update. They could have waited a week so they could interview a few jurors. As for Michael Proctor and his wife's interview with Andrea - first off, I'm surprised his attorney allowed them to give an on-camera interview but maybe they did it against legal advice. I don't think it made him look better. He said that he was just emotional and frustrated having to investigate the death of a fellow cop and that's why he acted the way he did. He's basically making the case why cops shouldn't be investigating crimes committed against another fellow cop since they can't be counted on to remain impartial or un-emotional. Jennifer McCabe's testimony that Karen said "I hit him" 3 times sounds exactly like that scene in My Cousin Vinny when the sherriff testified that Ralph Macchio "confessed" to shooting the clerk. LOL. If Karen had really hit him, why would she be admitting it? Although I firmly believe that she and all of her friends were all still drunk that early in the morning after a late night of drinking. Plus Karen spent most of the night leaving childish drunk voicemails for John. It's still pretty funny (not in a good way) that a professional and educated woman like Karen acted like a drunk sorority girl in calling and leaving him voicemails like that. Even if he hadn't died and had gone into the house for the party, did she think he would somehow have a good reaction to hearing all of her voicemails? Karen's supporters did seem like a cult, what with their shirts and paying for opportunities to have dinner with the lawyer and giving her all that money. I think the DA overcharged with the murder charge and maybe you could argue there was manslaughter but the investigation was so botched that there was plenty of reasonable doubt to acquit.
  4. I'm so glad NBC decided to air the final season! I really love this show. Just watched the episode from last week - what was on the paper that Mags handed Claire in the nurse's lounge. I understand that she is going to try to help Claire through her trauma which includes getting help for her opioid use but what was on the paper? I'm not sure what is going on with Mags and Bash. Are they just friends with benefits now? I understand Bash didn't get the job, but surely there may be other jobs available?
  5. I forgot to mention that her family law attorney, the blond woman, was pretty nuts herself. Not to diminish her trauma if it was true, but her story about being in Mexico partying and then finding herself on a yacht and being sexually assulted seemed pretty out there. She claims she did what she had to in order to survive and get off the boat, but did she ever say if she filed a police report?
  6. This was definitely a weird case. The motive was really unclear and not very strong. I just don't believe that Roger killed Bonnie just because he believed she was abusing Heather.
  7. I don't believe her for one second. If she truly only lied about the 2 Hispanic women because she was afraid of James, once the police told her they had tracked her to him and had talked to him, she would have been like "Oh thank god, now I can tell you the truth because I was afraid he would hurt me. But since you know about him now, without me telling you, I can finally tell you what really happened." But no, she doubled down on the lie and also just became speechless and put on her white woman tears when she couldn't think of a way out of her lies. If, as she claims, that the blaming of the 2 Mexican women was just a way to steer the police to James, she would have said so when the police told her they had found James. She only came up with that story now. She could have just claimed when she was first "found" that she remembered nothing about her abduction, just like how in this show she conveniently doesn't "remember" how she ended up in the van. But no, she lied for years and when given opportunities to recant or change her story, she continued to blatantly lie. What is particularly galling for me too is that so much of the time, she smirked and laughed and this whole thing is just a joke and fame grab for her. She reminds me of Lori Vallow Daybell. Not to say Keith is perfect or doesn't have his own agenda, but I definitely do not believe anything Sherri says.
  8. Exciting episode for sure. I still didn't understand the motive for why so many of the agents turned traitor. Did they know they were in service of China? Not that I'm happy to see Isobel collapse and possibly die but it was unrealistic that she wasn't more seriously injured. I know we're not supposed to talk politics here but is there any chance we will get an acknowledgement next season that the current FBI director is a political hack and do-nothing and know-nothing?
  9. Pretty underwhelming series finale. The case itself was fine, but the other cast members had hardly anything to do with so much of the action being in Tokyo with Wes and the Japanese detective. It almost seemed like a backdoor pilot for a show set in Japan. Really disappointed that this show was cancelled.
  10. So they are not even going to make it to Vancouver? I thought they were going to go all around Canada. Why have the finale in Milan? I would have preferred if every few episodes they moved to a different province/region in Canada. So many possibilities and could have given all of us Americans a chance to see different parts of Canada that we normally don't see. What a let down.
  11. There is no way Maroun should have been allowed anywhere near this case. In real life, she never would have been, but on TV shows, cops, prosecutors, FBI agents are always allowed to be involved in cases they have a personal connection with. I get that she tainted the ID given by the doorman, but was it really that tainted that it was unethical or a misconduct? The doorman definitively identified the defendant as the guy he was talking to - he didn't hem and haw or was unsure. I think Price should have just disclosed to the defense attorney and let her cross the doorman and let the jury decide if that made his testimony and ID less credible. By not putting the doorman on the stand at all, it effectively tanked the case and now they can't touch him due to double jeopardy. I also didn't understand why the use of the familial DNA was tossed. So many cases in the last few years since the Golden State Killer (my county's DA did this!) have used familial DNA matches that I thought it was settled. Maroun was definitely the weakest link in the cast and I'm hoping she doesn't come back either.
  12. Murder in Minot I've seen this case covered before on another show but I can't remember where. It wasn't Cold Justice as we don't watch that show. I may have missed it but what was the reason Marty the maintenance man was ruled out as a suspect so quickly by the detectives? To me that was the most obvious suspect as he had a key. Also, I know they had the demonstration of someone trying to enter the room through the window with the cut screen but was it really that impossible to enter and exit through there? Yes it was a tight fit but it could be done. Again I may have missed an explanation why that was ruled out also. I felt bad for the Knutson family - losing 2 kids to this and the parents were so elderly. I thought the case against the roommate was weak and not sure her motive was strong enough. I feel like the witness accounts of her saying she did it were not really credible and could have just been her being drunk and wanting attention.
  13. A lot of Asian bakeries use fresh fruit with no glaze on their cakes. See 85 Degrees Bakery as an example. So it could totally be a cultural/palate issue as it seems like many of Mary Frances' critiques have been. She admitted she had to adjust her flavorings to match what the judges are looking for.
  14. So is Tyler no longer on the show or will they find some way to keep him at the BAU? L&O Organized Crime was also doing a serial killer network storyline. Is there something comparable IRL that is inspiring these storylines?
  15. Re: The Rose Petal murder I agree that Christina had the worst taste in men! I too kept thinking that Zach Hughes was going to claim he was mildly/high functioning on the autism spectrum. I couldn't believe that his father said he was proud of his son. It's just such a shame because he did seem to be very talented but what a nutjob! I'm glad they eventually arrested John Mello. What an arrogant prick. And was anyone confused by the fact that Christina's sister was named Tina? Who names their kids that way?
  16. I too was wondering why she didn't have any other paternal family members to contact when they couldn't get a hold of the father. A lot of times even if the dad isn't that involved, there are paternal grandparents around. Then we find out the father is a "trust fund kid" so why wasn't the mom getting adequate child support to pay for childcare???
  17. Just watched the lottery winner episode. I wish they had told us how Abraham Shakespeare got his name! I wonder why he didn't ask his rich lawyer for financial advice instead of trusting Dede. It's always sad that so many people who grew up with no money end up not having any idea how to manage their riches once they finally get a lot of money. Dede was diabolical and evil and I hope she rots in prison forever.
  18. I think they were able to get some bigger names to compete because it just a one full day commitment. The sudden elimination of half of the field is just to underscore how tough the competition is. I was a little surprised at who Kevin Lee chose to go up against in the first challenge and I couldn't remember where I'd seen her before. I don't watch that many episodes of Beat Bobby Flay so I knew I hadn't seen her on that. Then I remembered she was on Next Food Network Star. Not sure which season and who won that year though.
  19. I believe Natalie intentionally injected her husband with the insulin. There were text messages that she asked her friend for a vial of insulin to use for herself due to whatever cancer treatment she claimed she was doing. She was lying about having cancer and doing any treatment so what did she need the insulin for? Her friend testified she gave her the insulin when she asked for it, so Natalie had the insulin - what did she use it for if not for herself since she was lying about the cancer treatment? She and the defense attorneys had no explanation for that. I bet when Natalie changed her mind about testifying on her own defense it was because she realized she was going to have to account for that lie among many she told. The 20/20 episode on this case focused much more on the business fraud. I don't know why these friends and family aren't more outraged. They gave the Cochrans hundreds of thousands of dollars in "investment" and then watched as Natalie and Michael bought expensive toys and went on luxury vacations using the money they had given them. They were living the high life financed by their friends. And yes the embezzling from the little league team was small potatoes in comparison but really shows Natalie's lack of character. She was using those funds for TJ Max and Olive Garden so this just seemed to be stealing just because she could. As for whether Michael knew or not, I think he was being willfully ignorant. He chose to look the other way as long as he had the money to buy his sports car, fund his workouts and go on his luxury vacations. And I call BS on the kids testifying that dad "wore the pants" in the family including when it came to work. Those kids were way too young to know for sure what their parents did for work and how they did it. How many kids know truly what their parents do for work unless they are something tangible like a doctor or teacher? That testimony sounded coached.
  20. I just wish they would give them a more reasonable amount of time that would also allow for correcting of mistakes. I'm sure those bakers know how to make macarons but in their rush many of them made mistakes in their batter. And please no more "twists"! What was the point of the serrano pepper twist????
  21. The actor who played Mitchell's adoptive dad looked more like his biological dad than the actor who played his bio dad. LOL Not sure why they had Tyler go back to the US just to have him keep popping up on more episodes.
  22. Julian used his immunity because he knew he wouldn't have time to get any "spring" decorations on it and he was afraid of getting dinged for it. And of course after the judges found out he used his immunity, they praised it to high heaven. Jesse should not have told the judges he used the immunity card and I bet that they would have said it was too brown and not enough spring decorations. But because he used his immunity, they have to tell him it was perfect. RME. 🙄 It was time for Kareem to go, but clearly he was well-liked. I felt bad for him that his big ideas were never able to be executed. I didn't understand their criticism of his digital clock cake decoration but he was cut because his flavors weren't that great.
  23. Anya should have told them her "cake" was a cookie.
  24. Scola was wrong to go behind Nina's back to give the money, even though they have it. He's enabling bad behavior. They would have been better off helping Tink offload the expensive mortgage they can't afford and helping them with a deposit into a rental they could afford without the deadbeat brother-in-law. Why did MW and regular FBI both do serial killer storylines? These storylines seemed better for old-school Criminal Minds. Remy should not have been brow-beating the medical professionals into violating HIPAA. I understand why they needed the information, but they should have gotten a court order.
  25. Yes it was pretty arrogant of Julian not to use his immunity for this challenge, especially towards the end when he realized his cheesecake was not going to be baked properly. He was just banking on someone else being worse than him. I think it was manufactured drama though to have him be on the bottom 2. I'm glad he survived though. I'm hoping to be able to go to his bakery in the next couple of weeks as we will be in his area. 😋 Kareem's madeleine tower looked so much better before he stuck the madeleines on top of all the piped flowers. I agree that he seems to not be in the same league as everyone else but I guess he hasn't yet made such an egregious error that couldn't be overlooked. In the early rounds, I think taste will always trump decor, which I think is how Kareem has managed to survive so far since the bakers eliminated already had technical issues with their flavors/bakes whereas his tend to taste good but his decor not so great. Are all of the contestant bakers professionals and have their own bakery or work as a pastry chef? Usually there is one or two who self-identify as home bakers but I don't remember if there is one for this season.
