  1. Like everyone else here, I can't see why Mars even wants to be with Doug at this point. She should have moved on last year, maybe she's only staying with him for the tv show. Nice to see the proposal from Weston, Brooke looked happy. It was a little over the top about how she wet herself during the wresting match, but there is surgery that can fix it it's an ongoing issue. I think I too would have had trouble leaving my kids for 9 days when they were that young. But unlike Brook, I never drank alcohol when I was breastfeeding. Quad family, I find boring so I catch up on Facebook on my phone when they're on. Not interesting at all. I like Josh and Aly. And I mean absolutely no disrespect but I really , really hope that she's going to be ok. I'm also a breast cancer survivor but I was diagnosed with early stage at age 53 back in the winter. At 24, Aly had a much more aggressive form of cancer in that she needed 16 rounds of chemotherapy right away. Taking on 3 children so close in age- I really hope that she'll be here to raise them all. Recurrence can happen at any time with breast cancer, or any cancer, really. There is no magic about the 5 year date, it's a myth. Olivia Newton John had a recurrence after 25 years. Off my soapbox now....
  2. I don't know who actually started it, but I saw a GoFundMe account that was started for Jon to help get custody of his kids. It says he needs $30,000 for his legal bills. I tend to doubt he'll get much funding for his campaign, it's also not likely he'll get custody unless the show is officially over, which never seems to happen. It pops up for a season every year. I do remember seeing an interview somewhere from Mady and Cara who stated that they didn't want to live with Jon because he had girlfriends around all of the time. I have no idea if it's true or not, but I seem to remember him saying in an interview that he only sees half of his kids. Maybe only 4 of them go on a regular basis to visit.
  3. Interesting seeing Adam cutting up corn dogs with scissors for his little girls. I have scissors in the kitchen too as part of my knife set, but it seems weird to me to use them to cut up food I'm serving to my family.
  4. I read up on this family a bit to find their backstory. The sons are 33, 30 and 28, daughter is 26. The two eldest sons married in 2006, just a few months apart and son # 3 a year later. Then the daughter in 2013. So all of them married quite young, 2 of the sons were still in their teens and I'm assuming the wives were as well. One of the wives discussed her mother had been on hospice so maybe she has no other family. I do think there is some religious undertone to this that we aren't being shown. The only groups that seem to marry very young and have a lot of kids right away are Independent Baptists , Pentecostal and Mormons. Since all of the adult kids have a lot of children, I'm guessing this is one factor. Also, the fact that all of them got married very young seems to indicate that none of them were financially able to be independent anyway, but were in fact strongly encouraged to live with the mom and dad. The oldest daughter in law states she moved into their house, even into sharing a room with Blair (who was about 13 at the time)- why did she do that? Maybe she didn't get along with her parents? There is definitely some weird dynamic going on, more than ordinary cases of co-dependency. I can't imagine a 34,000 square foot house, it might as well be a palace/castle. I guess previous generations all lived together- I'm thinking of Downton Abbey now- but it's a lot less common today. Can't imagine there isn't some sort of conflict going on at least sometimes. Everyone shares bank accounts and has to eat all the same meal for dinner all of the time? Even the Duggars don't appear to have the same meal for all of their kids anymore from what I've seen on their show. And the Duggars appear to encourage their kids to move out and set up their own households upon marrying, which might also explain the rapid succession of marriages in that family.
  5. I watched an old 10 year episode the other day, which was put together as an update on Kate and the kids. She mentioned she was working on school for Colin, after it showed her taking the other kids to the bus stop. All of them were getting up early for school, and it showed Joel and Aiden first making lunches with Kate. He wasn't in the talking heads though, so some parts of the episodes were filmed before he went away. I can't remember if he was officially kicked out of the school that all the other kids attend, but I seem to recall he wasn't allowed back in kindergarten, along with Alexis, years ago. So I assume Kate had a tutor, I don't think she took on the task of homeschooling him by herself. I do wonder if he'll ever be coming home again but somehow I doubt it. That poor boy must feel horrible about having been sent away. The episodes show that Kate doesn't know how to enjoy herself outside of her element. The lists that wast showed about making lunches was just an example of her being a control freak. Her meltdowns make me wonder if she's either acting for the camera or whether she was ever fired from a job. I can't imagine any nurse acting the way she does. It'll be interesting to see what she attempts to do for a living after the kids are grown since she's not that old yet- 42? I figure that house will probably have to get sold in a few years unless she gets more regular shows from TLC.
  6. I just bought seasons 7 and 8 on Amazon because I've been enjoying the series so much. I forget how much of the original I watched, had to stop as we had kids who grew up and had activities and generally got busy with life. Now that both are in college, I'm having fun watching the whole series all over again. I'll probably wind up buying the rest of the seasons unless I find another way to watch the show.
  7. I'm wondering, after Jazz eventually gets this procedure done, if she is going to be happy with it. Even though she has talked to a few other young women now, does she actually know anyone who has had a vaginoplasty done? Has she seen photos of what it looks like afterwards? As I mentioned earlier, I'm a breast cancer survivor and I belong to an online Facebook group- there are many women who were not happy with the results of having mastectomies and reconstruction done. It has taken an immense toll on their self esteem and most of these women are from mid thirties through sixties. I was very lucky to have qualified for a lumpectomy, but I do have a permanent 4 inch scar on my breast. I'm fine with it, happy cancer is gone now and only having to deal with what might be permanent numbness in the armpit area. With Jazz, not only does she have the testosterone blocker, she also is taking estrogen. Her hormones might be contributing to her depression. And after all of this, what if she decides she doesn't like the way her breasts look and decides she needs breast surgery as well? I think I did hear her mention this possibility awhile ago. And I'm wondering if she too would have ongoing numbness from her surgery. There doesn't seem to be any easy answers to this. By the way, I didn't realize that Dr. Christine was also trans. She had her surgery back in 2000. Unlike many trans women I have seen interviewed, she is one of the few who I can honestly say I would have never guessed that she had been born a male.
  8. One thing I had forgotten in watching the reruns is how much the staff seemed to break into song randomly. It was cute and made the show less serious at times when it needed to be. Today I watched part of an episode where Doug and Carol are singing "Hello Mother" to a kid in the E/R. The nursing staff seemed to have fun in earlier seasons too, seeing them dressed up for Halloween, playing soccer while on rolling chairs (think this was during a power outage). I don't know if they took all that away later on because I think I stopped watching around season 7.
  9. Hope this isn't too off topic, but I'm on the hormone blocker Tamoxifen because I had breast cancer earlier this year and it's a pill I need to take daily for the next 10 years in hopes that the cancer doesn't come back. I was already in perimenopause when I was diagnosed and this will probably put me into full blown menopause. It definitely makes me feel different than I did before, and I can see where the hormones Jazz has been taking, as well as the hormone blocker, can affect her moods. She can't be the only one who blocked puberty by being put on a hormone blocker at age 11, but I'm guessing it's still pretty rare to see transgender people start identifying that way at age 5, which is when Jazz first expressed she wanted to be a girl. I think the doctors may not have seen many cases like hers and might not be 100% comfortable proceeding with the bottom surgery. That said, the fact that Jazz is impotent and not orgasmic is pretty depressing if there is nothing that can be done about that. I wonder if her parents would have consented to the blocker if they realized that Jazz might never be able to enjoy sex in her lifetime.
  10. It appears that none of the main characters like each other now, except everyone still likes Mary. None of them are friends in real life, it's just for the show.
  11. Oh bummer, stopping at season 6? I wanted to see the whole series too- originally I think I stopped at season 3 as my kids were getting older and we were busy with activities like baseball, soccer, etc. I wish another network would pick it up, especially Netflix
  12. Ugh, Sabrina. I read that she was just arrested for drug possession and I assume it's not her first arrest. So has she definitely lost custody of both her kids now? Where is Oakley and where is the new baby? The report said that the kids were 3 and 5 1/2 months old. No wonder Abe and Rebecca don't want to be around her. I stayed up to watch the clip show about Sabrina and she mentioned that she lost Oakley because she was homeless and living with the toddler in her car. So it wasn't just an unsupervised visit with the father that caused her to lose Oakley. I guess she must have spent all of her TLC money on drugs. This show is really becoming a train wreck. And with the exception of Mary, it appears that none of these people actually really like either other, other than the couples. And I'm not sure how much Carmela likes Jeremiah at this point. He too was arrested recently for domestic abuse and I think I read something about a restraining order. TLC needs to cancel this mess after this season. I do wonder how the ratings are for it.
  13. Abe is the father of both of Rebecca's kids, this was confirmed awhile ago. I finished watching this morning and all I can say about Mary is, I've lost respect for her. I actually admired the way she was trying to run a bed and breakfast a couple of years ago and I really don't see why her elders would have had a problem with that. I know in Lancaster there are several B & B's run by Amish families. But the drinking, pole dancing and driving a Trans Am- not just a car, a sports car, no less- it's pretty obvious Mary doesn't want to be Amish at all.And by dressing in the Amish clothes, she is showing disrespect to that community, in my opinion. Sabrina appears to be off on her own. Was she really actually friends with Abe and Rebecca or were they simply castmates put together for the sake of the show? I do feel bad for her, and I don't know if she fully realizes what's been happening to her. She comes across as possibly slow, if not drugged. It would very likely be a good thing for her to find a church that she feels comfortable with if she's not allowed to be Mennonite anymore. She needs a stable support system. Also, if there is any way for her parents to adopt Oakley, that would be the best solution for all involved. My friend from high school and her husband had to adopt their grandson for the same reason, his daughter was and continues to be a heroin addict and is living in a motel with a man who works sporadically but it also an addict. They let her visit her son at their home, which was allowed in court orders, but the boyfriend isn't allowed in their house at all or to be around this child. Jeremiah and Carmela are going to wind up divorced. And Jeremiah is headed for a full fledged nervous breakdown if he hasn't had one already. Where was he living in the past couple of years before he met Carmela? In the trailer home? It seemed like he was living with Mary and Chester for awhile and that caused friction with Abe and Rebecca. I don't blame them for not liking it.
  14. These episodes are getting way too long. I can't finish them in one night, have to DVR them. So Jeremiah and Carmela are talking about her getting her tied tubes reversed so they can have a baby together? And he already has 3 kids and she has 4? The two of them are quietly out of their minds. While I don't always think Abe is the sharpest tool in the shed, I agreed with him when he said that the two of them should work on their marriage, not try for kids. Trying to figure out why Abe went to Florida. to keep an eye on Mary's gambling problem or just to get a little vacation? And now Rebecca's going too.
  15. When Carter got arrested for disposing of a patient's stomach contents, I remember being really puzzled about why the police officer arrested him right there at the hospital like that. I know the argument was that Carter was protecting the patient's civil rights, but the cop said he was obstructing justice by throwing out the evidence. Yet if they wanted to prove drunk driving, or whatever the charge was, wouldn't a blood test show that as well , or a breathlyzer? Sometimes I can never figure out what's true in real life or what's fiction. But I do find the scenerios of the show interesting and it never fails to capture my attention. Maybe it's because I'm currently in treatment for breast cancer (doing well, thanks !) but the medical procedures are fascinating and a distraction from what I'm going through .
  16. too long of an episode. I set it to DVR and it's 3 hours! Watched about half so far. Really wondering why it's still called Return to Amish as no one has yet done that. I don't even think that Mary can be considered Amish anymore. Good to see her selling Tupperware though. I don't think Jeremiah and Carmela's marriage will last, in my opinion. Way too much drama in regard to their getting a new house. Can't believe they've been living in a camper for months but I guess it's because he has the traveling donut business at various fairs. Where are her kids anyway- doesn't she have 3?
  17. I've been wondering about the story with Jeannie being HIV positive and working with patients directly. Not sure what the law was back in 1995 but what about today? Can a person who is HIV positive work in healthcare that involves using needles to draw blood and give shots?
  18. I'm taping all of the episodes to watch in order, a little tough because they're showing them 3 times a day. But anyway, I was wondering how, at the end of season 2, Carol Hathaway announces she's quitting her job at the hospital. Yet in the season 3 opener, she's back again and it wasn't even mentioned. This is when Carter officially is now a doctor and watching the episode where he's on call all night long and barely getting any sleep seemed very real. Looks like Carol is also having financial problems between trying to sell her house and her car getting repossessed. Not sure why she's broke all of a sudden if she's been working consistently as a nurse all this time, unless her house truly was a money pit.l
  19. Someone commented upthread about the medication for adhd. I don't know about other states, but here in NJ, in order for me to get my son's Adderall refilled, I have to call his doctor, then go pick up prescription and take it directly to the pharmacy. It's limited to 30 pills a month, there is no call in available or mail in option with the insurance. He has to have blood work done twice a year and also 4 dr. visits a year , even as a freshman in college. I assume that when Sean was in school, he probably struggled with a learning disability and/or couldn't focus enough to pay attention and was diagnosed with adhd. He may have dropped out of school due to poor grades.
  20. One way I can understand why Zeke didn't tell anybody is that he probably doesn't want to explain over and over again and yes, have people look at him a certain way. In early February, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I've already had surgery and will start radiation next week. I struggled as to whether or not to come out in public about it via my personal Facebook page, and I have around 200 family, friends, neighbors, former and current co-workers etc. I'm doing as well as can be expected since my surgery was successful in getting it all, but it's strange to me now when friends of friends are asking me directly how I'm doing- acquaintances at best. I'm not comfortable talking about it to people that I really dont' know. Of course, they always feel free to share things like how their grandmother died of it, and how their sister in law couldn't take the prescribed hormone blockers that I will have to take for the next 10 years to hopefully prevent a future recurrence. To these folks, I want to tell them to take a hike. I imagine Zeke feels the same way. And being on Survivor, you're probably not out there long enough to bond with people to share something like that. For the record, after I did share, I had several women confess to me that they'd skipped mammograms for a few years but decided to get them after reading about my experience. All that said, I wouldn't be surprised if Survivor completely drops the issue altogether and it never gets discussed again on the show.
  21. I didn't watch part 2, only part 1 and was disgusted by what I saw. But I wanted to comment here about Steven's teeth, they did indeed look bad. It made me wonder, how many of these people featured on this show have been to a dentist in years? I wonder if anyone over say, 400 lbs can safely fit into the dentist's chair. Years of neglect could make teeth look really bad, not to mention their diets can lead to severe tooth decay. Maybe some of them just let their teeth rot and fall out. Very sad.
  22. For the first time, I am not going to watch this week's show. I really feel like I've been duped and lied to, as much as Dr. Now was. I can't believe Steven and Justin though we didn't really see much of Justin. I watched the youtube videos of "John" (wonder why he used to go by that name. middle name or alter ego maybe?). If the show continues on this way, as others have said, I'm going to have to stop watching. It's very disappointing and discouraging. It's one thing to show a person who became 600 lbs due to depression and anxiety but quite another when the participant appears to be a sociopath and drug addict. If Dr. Now cares about his show's future, they would not have aired this segment.
  23. This is the first season of My Big Fat Fabulous life in which I'm honestly getting bored of the show. I've missed a couple of episodes yet it doesn't really seem like I've missed much of anything. Something needs to change- Whitney's ambitions or hobbies, the other people on the show, just something. Does anyone else feel this way?
  24. I'm 45 minutes away from Atlantic City but I have zero interest in seeing this. If he was just doing the show as a DJ, I could see people wanting to attend though I don't know if I'm into the type of music he plays. But stripping? Ugh.
  25. I'm taping them too! Forgot how much I loved this show, used to watch all the time when my kids were little, after they went to bed but I never finished the entire series. I think I watched through the 8th season. I remember that Benton used to get on my nerves, but now all these years later, he doesn't seem so bad after all. Maybe I've mellowed out now I'm in my 50's. I also loved watching William Macy on here, and wish he'd been a regular. Doesn't look like Anthony Edwards had too much of a career after he left this show.
