  1. i honestly think will be very lucky if it follows the trajectory of a Lost or Desperate Housewives and remains a hit even after peaking culturally and in the ratings in early season two. I think this show is more likely however to follow the trajectory of a Glee.
  2. They should have Ana Gesteyer's drama teacher as a regular too.

    S04.E18: Baré

The 'doctor' bit had me howling; I also rewound and watched it three times. Is there a real Geoff Schwartz? If so, I wonder what the real Eric thinks of that story.
  4. Did the cast shoot and screen a different version of the finale than the one NBC aired? Because I read interviews with Sterling and Chrissy about the finale and many of their comments address things we just didnt see. In the least, they both seem to be under the impression that the audiance was given big clues about how Jack died; I didnt see one.
  5. I hate that the show hit us over the head with 'Kevin and Kate have a special connection' in the first few episodes, but then gave them zero interaction in the back-half if the season nor in any of the flashbacks to 88/89 or 95/96.
  6. I loved when Katie told Alan "your are the biggest peice of :bleep: . . ." and instead of jist bleeping over shit, continued bleeping other words for another 45 seconds.
  7. Get ready for This is The Voice: Chicago. On her way to Voice audition, Kate, Toby, Rebecca, and Miguel witness a crime involving a fire, have to get medical attention, and then appear as witnesses when the city seeks justice.
  8. Agent Melinda May was on and I didnt even notice?!? I have to agree with most of you that the Louis/Eddie & friends story was fantastic, but the roadtrip was terrible. I was actually cringing in embarrasment at that Jodie Foster impression; it sounded more like Barbara Walters.
  9. I really liked this episode, except for Glenn; his behavior was atrocious.
  10. First, the real money in television is in syndication, off-network, and international sales. Disney is making money with a portion of The Middle's revenues, and it will make 100% of the revenues of Blackish, Housewife, ONeals, and Ken, will get slightly over half od Goldbergs, and will make a portion of Fresh and Speechless. Speaking exclusivly to Goldbergs and Blackish, ABC Studios, and Sony with Goldbergs, are set to bank when those two go into syndication and off-network soon. Which is why the vast majority of ABC's comedy development is either from ABC Studios or a co-prod with another studio. Networks being able to repeat shows during the year are also big money makers. Once did not get a syndication or off-network deal. ABC can't repeat Once. Second, even if lets say To Tell the Truth or Match Game equaled the ratings for Once and even if the network couldnt make as much in revenue via commercials, those shows are significantly cheaper than Once so it's still a net gain for the network. Third, you didnt address this in your post, but folks shouldnt underestimate that ONeals has thr only gay lead on network tv. Annalise Keating is not gay. And ModFam is an ensemble. ONeals sole lead is gay. He does the voiceover. And the show is tackling 'gay issues' almost every week. For its season finale this past week they dealt with the lead having a friend kicked out of her house for being gay. Also, that it goes up against the backhalf of monster This Is Us does matter. ABC is going to be very careful about what they air against it; Blackish, which as detailed above is 100% owned by Disney, will not be sent there to be damaged.
  11. ABC makes jack shit from the conventions; the actors do. And its merchandise sales is infintesimally fractional compared to the syndication revenue the comedies are (going to) bring in. They can also repeat the comedies, just like AFV and the alternative/game shows, and some of them get repeat numbers that have 80%+ of new episode numbers. You've just made the argument for why ABC is going to turn the night over to comedy and alternative. Once has never been able to anchor the night. And in its six seasons the 9 and 10 slots have seen an endless stream of bombs and at best low-rated fare. Drama has not worked for ABC on this night since the first season of Once when DH aired 9 and was still pulling decent numbers, though it couldnt hold Once's then-hit numbers.
  12. I think* Tate's view is that April's job was the reason she got TB and then the stress of it led to her losing the baby. *but who knows since he and their relationship, like almost everything and everyone on this show, is chronically underdeveloped. NBC and Wolfe desperatly want this show to be NuER but they dont want to actually put the work in.
  13. Of course Manning made Wheeler's suicide all about her and will next week/episode (?) use the tragedy to get in Halstead's pants. She is truly awful. I love when Charles hesitates for a secons abouy going to comfort her and then bolted instead.
  14. Fresh/ONeals have been going up against monster This Is Us, and the few weeks they havent have shown major improvement. They also repeat exceptionally well, ABC will get a portion of Fresh syndication revenues and all of ONeals, and lastly ONeals is the only show on tv with a gay lead.
  15. I truly hope those people are out looking for other work because the show isnt coming back. ABC is literally right now trying to decide which comedies to use as a beachhead on Sundays. I have it on good authority that they are looking at different comedy lineups depending on what NBC does with This Is Us. If NBC moves it, then ABC is going to move Blackish to Tue at 9 to anchor that hour. If NBC keeps This Is Us in place, ABC is going to keep Fresh and probably Oneals as sacraficial lambs and move Blackish to Sundays at 8.
  16. Loved Diane whispering to Dre "hope you invested well". Very strong episode; best in a long time.
  17. Great episode, but the wacky hijinks music during the transition shots has got to go.
  18. Great episode that hit the right notes as both a seaaon ans potential series finale. Given that ABC wants to expand its comedy imprint, the show is produces by ABC Studios, and is the only show on broadcast with a gay lead, I think it'll be back.
  19. That fight was written and acted beautifully and brutually. Jack's arms looked fucking amazing when he was fixing that car. Aside from that, this episode sucked.
  20. All snark aside, the networks must be pissed at Nielsen right now as they are trying to make big decisions about existing shows and are having to wait on only the Sunday and last night ratings, but also the live+7 for the final week of the Feb sweep and final Feb sweep numbers.
  21. I'm shocked that negotiations that arent happening arent going well.
  22. I have nothing to add to that ridiculous plot twist. But I'm sorry, can we talk about Regina STILL having hearts in her vault?!? Why hasnt she returned them (off screen)? I get her raping Graham not being revealed to Emma, but what possible plot reason would she still have those hearts?
  23. It's difficult to compare what's going on with Once now to what happened with Nashville and Castle last year. First, Nashville only even got a fourth season on ABC because they were able to secure extremely generous tax breaks from the state and city, and Lionsgate also cut the license fee to the bone as the show was in negotiation for syndication with CMT but it wanted four full seasons. Also, once ABC cancelled Nashville it had nothing to do with the show landing at CMT with new episodes; that was all Lionsgate. With Castle, it only even got an 8th season because TNT wanted the additional episodes. ABC (Network) effectively did ABC Studios a favor by renewing it for that 8th season because the studio could make bank. When it came time to negotiate with the cast for a 9th season, which TNT also wanted, ABC and TNT made it explicitly clear that they werent interested in the show without Nathan AND Stana, but some morons at the Studio decided to never even approach her. As far as what is going on with Once now, my friend at ABC Studios is adamant that the Studio is not in negotiations with anyone or even talking about a 7th season and ABC has yet to even express interest in it. She thinks these stories are coming from the show itself in a hail mary attempt to save themselves. She also said, and I quote, "they wouldnt even approach Colin as he is still under contract through a prospective 7th season".
  24. As Beth's father died of cancer too, I wouldnt be surprised if one of Beth & Randall's daughters developed some sort of cancer. I dont mean to sound synical, but you know NBC would love promoting a kiddie cancer story.
  25. I really liked this episode, except for Choi putting his career and integrity on the line all because of a drug mule. I thought it was widly out of character for him to along with April and Jeff's lie.
