Final numbers for Episode 1: 0.29 in the demo, 1.474 million viewers. That's a big fall from the preliminaries; I don't know if it followed some sports program. This might be the first flop of the season

A really good interview with Azie by Digital Spy on Guardian's emotional debut and that uncomfortable final scene https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a37636560/supergirl-kelly-olsen-guardian-azie-tesfai-season-6/?utm_content=buffer6813d&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=maintwitterpost

Preliminary ratings for the first episode: 0.3 in the 18-49 demo and 1.62 million viewers, 4th of 5 in its timeslot. Not a good start. Fox is not having a great start for its new shows this premiere week

Yes, I actually did catch that dialog, so maybe that’s why he was able to so quickly redesign it but that redesign still seemed a little fast For whoever asked, there are 20 episodes this season, so 8 episodes left. And I have to add to the complaints that they seem to be delving into certain things a little late with so little time left, including Lena being a witch and Kelly becoming the new Guardian
-
Brainy did spend who knows how much time helping Kelly redesign her Guardian suit (that seemed like an awfully quick redesign) The issue with the people from the Heights initially seemed like an ordinary medical issue amid an overtaxed hospital and a city under attack, until Rankine showed her magical hand. What were the Superfriends supposed to do before that when they were dealing with a city under attack?
-
As said, Kelly had misplaced priorities when the whole city was under attack and many people were hurt or in danger. I can somewhat understand her anger at the humans who were ignoring her pleas, though they were overwhelmed by the attack on the city, but her superhero friends were rather busy trying to contain the problems of a city under attack and weren’t needed to focus on what seemed to be ordinary problems of some local humans and aliens. She should have left them alone and figured out the problem herself. Once she determined the councilwoman had magical powers and may have been to blame for her friends’ problems, then it made sense to bring in the superfriends to fix that issue and by turn help her friends

I enjoyed the episode overall and appreciated that Kelly wanted to help the disenfranchised and have people pay attention to the local Black community. I also liked that the actress playing Kelly had input into writing the episode and into the makeup of the Guardian suit to reflect her and her heritage. At the same time, it’s hard for superheroes to focus on local issues when they’ve got big bad supervillains to fight, so Kelly practically screaming at them to listen to her very local concerns when they are in the middle of finding and fighting a supervillain just seemed like odd positioning to me

I’ve been generally enjoying the show overall except for the Nixon Falls storyline, but Jason and Carly recapping the last 9 months to Sonny on today’s episode was incredibly tedious

Marisa Roffman reports via GiveMeMyRemote that Songland won't be returning to NBC for Season 3, at least for now https://www.givememyremote.com/remote/2021/09/20/songland-canceled-no-season-3-nbc/

It does have a certain quirky charm. With the reality show element, it reminds me, at least on paper, of Lifetime's Unreal, though I never saw that show, but at least one reviewer made that comparison The preliminary ratings weren't good at all with a 0.4 in the 18-49 demo and 1.968 million viewers, making it 4th in its timeslot and running behind almost everything else for the night except reruns and the CW, so unless things pick up, this will likely not get a full season pickup
-
I read a review that suggested this seems better as a comedy and fails at the more dramatic parts and I kind of agree
-
What an odd show and kind of all over the map, but kind of endearing. The opening scene was comedy gold and the bowling alley dancing was a fun segment. A Swan Lake performance seems kind of an odd choice to foist on amateur dancers I don’t see this lasting long enough for a full season pickup sadly

I’m about halfway through the first episode and there’s a lot I didn’t know about Ali’s early career. And I’m surprised how much they are ragging on the Nation of Islam, at least its early years

S03.E01: Welcome to Lagos
DanaK replied to DanaK's topic in Bob ❤️ Abishola (Bob Hearts Abishola)
Uncle Tunde’s pretend American accent to fool the Nigerian seller was pretty funny I was not expecting Abishola to be willing to let her son stay in Nigeria -
Tina going on overdrive to make the cupcakes was the funniest part of the episode

Clearly they were concerned given Monica got moved to the Pentagon. But I guess most of them figured it wasn’t their business. I think maybe the secretary thought she had to do what her boss told her -

Something I forgot to post about earlier is that there was a #FindtheDoctor game for the fans that started a few weeks ago and had them find clues that were either part of a password for the /mystery website here https://www.doctorwho.tv/mystery or clues to other places to find more clues. In the end, some fans got into the website's code late last week and found the full password that allowed a jump to the end, 3 clues before we were supposed to apparently. What was found was a new promo picture of Jodie and a video that was a voice mail message from the Doctor (voiced by Jodie) to Yaz and then glimpses of a monster Here is the tweet that contains the picture and link to the video The /mystery website also contains the previous voice mail message from Yaz (voiced by Mandip) to the Doctor that the Doctor was responding to if you want to have some fun listening to it -

They are currently filming in Grange Gardens in Cardiff for Jodie's final special (set to include her regeneration) and Bradley Walsh has been spotted on set and photographed with John Bishop. Mandip and Jodie were spotted at some point as well. Here is Cultbox's writeup https://cultbox.co.uk/news/headlines/doctor-who-bbc-centenary-special-filming-in-grange-gardens-cardiff At the bottom of the article is a hard to see link of pictures of Mandip and Jodie filming with director Jamie Stone: https://wrp.huwevansimages.co.uk/events/18541 -

S03.E02: The President Kissed Me
DanaK replied to DanaK's topic in American Crime Story: S03 Impeachment
It seems another post got lost in the ether, so I'll just repeat the high points. 80 minutes for each episode (at least through Episode 4) seems like too much I didn't feel sorry for Monica at all in this episode. She acted like so many people, especially women, do in affairs with married lovers and wait around for crumbs and a sign that the lover is paying attention. Plus, Monica apparently had previous affairs with a couple of married men, so she should have known better (but then so should Clinton). I think the actress is doing a good job of getting across Monica's hopeless and naive need to hear from Clinton and be near him as much as possible, even if her look isn't as close as it should be The only time I felt Linda was being sincere and likeable in this episode was when she talked about her kids I think Clive as Clinton is doing a good job. I especially liked the scene where he was just talking about stuff with Monica The episode has Paula clearly being used by people, though it's a bit hard to tell if she is quite as naive as she seems to be -
Pretty good stories overall and nice nods to the original show at the end, plus we learned an interesting thing about Elena in regards to her taking over the island
-
This looks quite interesting and getting Brandy and Eve seems to be a pretty good get (I don't know the other two ladies). I'll at least tune in to see how it goes
