S07.E06: Meri Makes Amends and Kody: Behind the Scenes
Featherhat replied to Galloway Cave's topic in Sister Wives
Yeah it's no real surprise that Meri went off the deep end with the world's least convincing catfisher when she'd just watched her "noble sacrifice for the family" leave on (another) long honeymoon (sans kids). I do think Robyn wanted her kids to be as much Brown as possible (because of her purity feels and "baggage" the creepiest picture in the world that she had made shows that, but it was also about the kid that she promised Kody after he put a (legal) ring on it, not to mention that all important "bit of paper" that was just a technicality with Kody and Meri. I don't think Jessop or his family have ever spoken out about his side of the story. He may have dealings that he doesn't want the media investigating (anything kind), he might not be interested in TV audiences enough to comment or he and his family may be the traditional plyg/ plyg associated who just doesn't talk to the media (ala Christine's often shown paranoia). Their Church wasn't very pleased when they started doing the TV show were they? -
Well I'm in the camp that thinks Jill's incredibly insensitive "Cathy's 90 YO bio Mom" info tweet was intended to draw out wider family members for an even slightly less boring storyline than normal for this show. Whether that means they are desperately trolling for stories to convince TLC to renew or desperately trying to come up with storylines for the already renewed show when no one is pregnant or courting is anyone's guess. Because if they have been renewed and its another season of no babies, no courtship and recaps then even the leghumpers will get bored and the ratings are in the crapper right now.
-
Probable. But like a lot of people I remain convinced it was so they could drum up publicity and storylines for their show. We're thinking of adopting!" Now by sheer chance here are all of Derek's mother's bio family that have never met each other before except they came together via Duggarism, JOY! Izzy loves his new family. Pics! There seems unlikely to be a new baby for either J wife so far for whatever reason and any budding courtships suitable for TV titillation have not materialised even if they might have been planned to appear. A season over angsting about a never going to happen adoption complete with long lost bio relatives was the juiciest they could hope for. Otherwise watching the Duggar sisters with one baby each cook very badly and show how awful they are as "helpmeets" (their stated goal not mine) is fantastically boring.
-
Bit in bold is bingo I suspect. Either Jill was desperately trolling for any kind of storyline or the producers were. Think about it, Dill are "considering adoption" and lo and behold Cathy's long lost birth mother (or her relatives) come out of the wood work and agree to film the reunion for TV and give the juicy story up for the cameras. (Or their version of "juicy" which is "slightly damp".) They'd milk that for a season's worth of storyline. That's why they blasted it out to twitter for maximum impact rather than quietly looking around adopted kids websites or basic google searches. That's especially the case if Blessing #2 is off the cards for now or proving tardy in getting here in time for filming.

Shameless Fame Whores: Sister Wives in the Media
Featherhat replied to purpleflowers's topic in Sister Wives
I'm sceptical that Kody would actually go for a 5th wife at this stage (although who knows the bloom seems to be off rose with Robyn a little), but I can see it being milked as a "will he won't he" situation for ratings. Then again maybe he would *actually* marry someone else if it got them another couple of seasons. MSWC has been hacked and goes to a porn site, that would also make a good episode as Robyn sobs about her pride and joy business going to hell. -
I'm still kind of annoyed that the show made Diane so weak sauce. As an historical woman her story is extremely interesting and whilst her and Catherine's relationship was a clusterfuck it was actually a more interesting clusterfuck than showed up on screen. (History credits here with Henri and Catherine managing to have legitimate kids she wouldn't want to murder them). It could have been an interesting stand off between her and Catherine and Mary, showing women and power and sex in all angles of the period. Instead we got 3/4th of a season of Kenna whining and bringing insanely negative game to the "you win or you die" game of court politics. Does anyone know why Caitlin Stasey left?

S07.E03: Thanksgiving: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
Featherhat replied to Armchair Critic's topic in Sister Wives
IMHO I think it's ok for even adult kids to be shocked and upset sometimes when their parents break up or consider doing so (as Meri was certainly doing). It's your whole life until now and that can be a head trip (even if it truly is for the best for everyone), never mind what other personal head trips Mariah has had to deal with recently with the divorce/"just legal paperwork for adoption" marriage (followed swiftly by "legal" baby no 2 20 years her junior. She may well have no idea where her own head is at. She was the brattiest of the teens but if you'd filmed my teen years I probably would have appeared as a shit show. She's still in college and it seems to have matured her somewhat and is exploring different ways of life. She didn't high tail it to Utah to marry the first suitable Pro Polygamy boy she met. Her support for Bernie Sanders might be a phase or it might not. But for all the drama over her going to Westminster whilst everyone else went to State Schools (which is for the record, still unfair, at least she appears likely to finish a course. -
S07.E02: Confessions and Polygamy Perks
Featherhat replied to Armchair Critic's topic in Sister Wives
If he's got in to the AFA that's awesome for him. Or even getting to the Prep Academy doesn't seem a cakewalk. I'm really glad he and Logan seem to be doing really well. I hope Mariah stays in college and comes out with a view on life that does not involve polygamy and that ends up being something she said when she was 14 and a family Princess and her Mom was the not yet de throned 1st wife. -
S07.E02: Confessions and Polygamy Perks

Wow, Janelle was showing her future suitability for the Brown Clown Train there. know she was very young and emotionally vulnerable after her divorce and desperately wanted to change her life, but .... camping in a tepee in Wyoming in November. WTF! I read it at first as "I quit my job to spend what ended up being half an hour in a freezing tee pee, which would have been double insanity, but I don't think it actually says that. I can see young Cody being something of a catch. He was handsome and whilst he's a dufus and very insensitive, doesn't come across as a controlling dufus (quite the opposite in some clown ways) and not physically abusive as far as we know. Meri was clearly enough in love with him to agree to the idea of Sister Wives and it's easy to see what appealed him to Christine and Robyn. It's marrying your ex's sister's husband that I can't wrap my head around. I always find it interesting that Christine really wanted to be a 3rd wife. I guess it makes sense. Three is the big number to get your own planet and by then most plyg husbands can't afford more, so there's no jealousy about being replaced. And wasn't there something about no. 3 adding balance to the sterotypical two way cat-fight between 1 and 2 (gosh it's almost as if they know polygamy is shitty for women from the start). It did work out like that for her for a number of years until Sobyn. I wonder if it's true that Christine and Kody are getting along better or if its just editing or for the cameras? -
Having watched since the days when it was on the bubble to get renewed even for a 2nd season, I think this is the right time to end it. 8 years is a very long time in today's TV landscape and I'd rather they end it with Beckett and some semblance of purpose intact than stretch it out for another 13 episodes because it remained *just* this side of profitable. The show proved Nathan can anchor a series that lasts more than 13 (if that) episodes and gave the mostly "working actor" cast "series regular" status for nearly 200 episodes. They'll all have at least a shot at a pilot in the next couple of years if that's what they want and the crew will move on to the new crop of shows. I would really like to know what went down though, if it was going to be renewed and all this gossip was a ploy for negotiations which broke down or if there was anything else behind it. It seems like a lot of networks are confident in their pilot crop for next year though.

At the end of S3 I have to say I'm amazed how much I love Jake. I basically hated him in the pilot but he has grown so much and the writers and Andy Samberg have done so much to make me believe that what he really needed was a father figure he really respected who didn't give up on him to actually mature. And they've really shown that gradual process. And for Holt he's also both a nightmare and a dream come true. Here's the text book cop who would have hated him for being gay and black for a lot of his tenure within the NYPD but whilst early Jake is a menace, he never has any issues with Holt's sexuality or race and starts defending that fairly early on (Old School) and beneath it, he's desperate as Amy for Holt's guidance and approval. He's finally been given his own precinct and three brilliant young detectives are ripe for mentoring. Must have been a lovely moment or realisation for Holt. Loved that Jake had grown so much that he was most choked out about Amy and *Charles* moving in together and very chill about them taking this next step. Obviously that was a lot in service to the final twist but I enjoy that they slip in "Ames" all the time as no big deal and it's "Jake of the acknowledge feelings" rather than "Jake of the stupid sitcom tropes" that has appeared this season.
-
The shipper of Holt/Cozner and Jake/Amy in me hopes they're with him but I doubt it. The fact that Jake agreed so happily to moving in either garantees it's just him and Holt (which doesn't make any sense given the whole of the 99 was investigating Figgis and Amy and Charles weren't subtle at the end) or that paradoxically they are in WP together and things are going horribly. I think Jake and Holt are on their own. The only question is whether its a "one and done" ep as at the beginning of S2 or an "arc and done" like S3. Whilst I had issues with Jake seemingly busting dangerous Mafiosos on a Friday and (seemingly) turning up to work on Monday, I think its a better approach than having Jake/Holt off by themselves for your first group of episodes, especially when ratings have not been great. I guess Jake/Amy will go through some drama, but I hope its the grown up kind that makes this couple very rare on TV, let alone sitcoms.
-
"Dread Pirate Roberts" situation? Figgis *was* really Figgis but Pimento took over (snapped, got corrupted, etc) I don't know if they would do that, but so far almost all "coming back to the fold"/ex friend characters have been dirty/antagonists and it would finish the Pimento arc in a final way for "Rosa" since I doubt JM is sticking around. I kind of figure it has to be someone we know but maybe not. I correctly predicted The Vulture as Captain but not Bill Hader. There's going to be a twist. I prefer the whole squad together so I hope "Greg and Larry" are only the first episode or so, but OTOH I thought Jake's mafia stint ended too cleanly for an organisation who would certainly have noticed that Jake Peralta went back to being a cop with no consequences like a week after 15 senior mafiosos were arrested. I feel like Amy should be in protection since it wouldn't be hard for a guy who has moles in the FBI to figure out that "Isabel Cortez" looks remarkably like the cop girlfriend of the detective he's just sworn a vendetta against. But I guess it only being Holt and Jake gives them their Father/Son storyline and leaves a cliffhanger of sorts for "will Jake and Amy move in together or not?". I have grown to love those two surprisingly a lot over the season and I love their mostly mature, low key storylines so I hope they continue that next season. Loved that Jake didn't do any sitcommy panicking when Amy said she wanted to move in together. He's really grown huge amount since Holt became his father (and wasn't that a great pay off!). Loved Hitchcock's driving and Charles's 1st class snobbery. The whole arc where they let Melissa Fumero not hide her pregnancy was great, although she certainly showed more "Amy" than believable "Isabel" in the final speech.
-
Yeah it wasn't the most nuanced B storyline the show has ever done, but it was simply used as a mechanism to end the undercover storyline. I hope if they do end up adopting that it comes up in a slightly more believable (for this show) way. Nor does it seem likely that the sister would break down at "real-ly" Amy's "just tell me everything (including your boyfriends' names and job titles". And shouldn't the FBI already be involved if the NYPC is conducting an investigation across state lines, in a federal prison, involving a mobster? Especially if Bob Anderson already tagged files with that name for his investigation. Or maybe it will be revealed that he knew long before Holt called him and was manipulating the situation. But I enjoyed the episode a lot despite that. I knoew Terry would be the leak and I wasn't a fan of "Gina is secret the most genius, awesome person at the 99 but she prefers to be a mean, stupid bitch persona". But Terry Crews' performance made up for that entirely. I knew it was going to be him but it was fun getting there. Charles' line reading of "my best friend Jacob Peralberg" cracked me up with just his tone, and the Peralta/Samberg was a fun nod. I did miss Jake/Charles and Jake/Amy both pairings I enjoy, but Charles/Amy is a rare pairing on the show and it worked great as is usual when this cast mixes it up. I did actually smile when Sully/Hitchcock were so happy they made Terry so confused that he went away. Bob/Holt. What can I say. I pegged him as a bad guy because that's what you do when a TV show casts the most famous name in an episode (something B99 has 99% gone along with) but it was great watching them get there. Loved Rosa's yoga and Jake's pull ups. Although I think someone that could legit do 1000 push ups without needing medical attention could have developed the strength to do like 10 pull ups.

This was a great way to incorporate MF's pregnancy into the storyline and give her something more to do than hold boxes/files or sit at a desk for two scenes per episode. Yes Amy is tough and can be bad ass. I liked the storyline with her and Jake, it felt fairly natural. It's horrific to watch someone you love in a terrifying situation and if the circumstances had been any less secret Holt would not have allowed it to happen. I liked that they both acknowledged the difficulties of dating a cop, but I wish we'd seem slightly more of that this season. Jake was obviously out of line but he admitted it and recused himself gracefully in the end. Their relationship is so grown up for all TV let alone a sitcom. .......And then Amy beats him up as the only way to regain the prison cred he cost her. Love Holt and Rosa, that's most of what I have to say here. I'm really glad that he discovered that he enjoyed High Fives! And that whilst I wasn't a fan of lightening fast! Rosa/Pimento that SB gave a great eulogy. Teeny Tiny side note. Does anyone else feel Jake's "what?! WOMEN WATCH PORN!!!??!" moment was a little weird for the character. It wasn't a big deal

The only reason I could even possibly think that they would move to LA is for TLC storylines and they are that desperate to keep the gravy train rolling. Especially if Meri isn't filming as much/they won't give any more details of the catfishing from her POV (her choice). There's really only Robin's Princess Ariel otherwise and lord knows that's most likely to be another on screen snooze fest. Possibly Maddie's wedding I supposed but who know how much of that the couple want to be documented, (or unless TLC ponies up some bonus for them maybe). "The Sister Wives Take LA" sounds like something TLC/Kody could have cooked up, although with Kody you wonder if he thinks he can strike it big whilst he's there. They'd be more isolated than ever from their Church in LA, way more so than in Nevada, I really would like to know if its just lip service these days, how their Elders view them and what they actually currently believe, but we won't get that honesty from them. Of course the LA rumour is likely complete bunk from a 3rd rate gossip site, but I could see them pitching it.
-
It doesn't help that they've also had to write around MF's pregnancy, which must somewhat limit what she can do (mostly hold boxes apparently). I think the biggest issue is that they've been so terrified of turning it into the Jake and Amy Show (with occasional guest stars from the 99) that interaction between them has been non existent beyond a carefully selected handful of episodes. If they're still together (or get back together if there's a cliffhanger for them again) next season then I really want to see the relationship from Amy's POV since it's been almost all Jake's perspective so far. Pimento is ok in very small doses but his shtick was starting to make me loose interest in the show TBH. He should definitely be used in Doug Judy doses from now on. I'm not sure I bought the relationship with Rosa apparently moving to marriage and ILY so quickly, ala Boyle. A few episodes ago she had to do 4 shots before telling Jake her new boyfriend's name, and now she's comfortable saying "I love you/him" in public after a few weeks? However he makes much more sense for Rosa than Marcus ever did and I could theoretically buy that Rosa just found her lightning in a bottle circumstances. SB was really selling it for me more than the writing I think. The parties were both awesome though, and it was really great the writers had Amy/Charles/Gina throw in character parties that they thought Rosa would love rather than in character parties that any person could see Rosa would hate in the usual sitcom manner.

Well "MeriBeALiar" posted is the "zero" so she still has some internet access and is posting to make sure we keep talking about it so she's not bored of the attention quite yet. Either she forgot or couldn't pay the bills and/or "Sam" will make a dramatic re- appearance on 6 months time, with the twins having both died in unspeakably tragic circumstances or the "cousin" has kidnapped them and fled the country. (Never mind that that would be international gossip because of such a rich/good looking "victim". It's embarrassing how transparent crackfish became, she knew that we knew she knew and played it up (TM Friends) so jokes on all of us I guess. Difference is, most of us have other things going on in our lives and this is just fun downtime (as is SW in general) whereas JO seems to have spent hours a day intentionally/fantasising and unrealistically pretending to be a ultra supposed "awesome" multi millionaire when it is clear she has never had a functional human relationship of any kind.
-
Catfish has changed its intended audience. It knows no one believes in the slightest and is deliberately trying to provoke reactions by posting ever more outrageous stuff so that we talk about "batman". It takes a few clicks to learn about Catholicism, Veganism, pregnancy, twins, successful business practices (ie don't give your employees 3 days off so they can prepare for the weekend etc. Not to mention Batcrap is such an awesome philanthropic amazing guy who gives away his money very generously and is a devout Catholic and yet......has released private pics and phone messages of a minor celeb and even claimed to have released a sex tape of same. Also Meri's reaction to "him" on the tapes make "him" sound a manipulative monster. It would have had to have been slightly more convincing in the beginning in order to get Meri to do what she did, but JO is enjoying us posting here as seen by entirely easy to spot attempts to keep the fans flamed here.
-
This is not a reflection on either girl and I hope they are both happy in life. But its interesting that Madison who was always one of the more outwardly "no way" to polygamy on the show has dropped out of college to marry a man very connected to their family wreath, whilst Mariah the budding sisterwife is still in college and apparently experimenting with feminist ideas, at least for a while. Obviously it doesn't mean Madison's marriage will be plural or that that is on the table at all or Mariah will blow and head to LA or wherever, but like most people, their 20 year old selves are perhaps in a different place than their 16 year old selves imagined.\Maddie might always have been considering an early marriage since she tried to convert LDS who now officially believe in being married before 25 latest and her school has lots of married undergrads her age.
-
Yeah it was pretty obviously JO, worried that Meri's thread was being a bit neglected. So I guess my post here is giving her what she wants. She might even want everyone to know its her posting since everything from the name to the posting style was idiotically transparent if she was trying to be incognito. BasqueGirl I guess at this point JO know a few people will check out (and talk about) her blog *because* it reads like a naïve 12 year old or a 50 year old virgin who has never even had a personal conversation with a man. But even when she was catfishing for money she was too lazy to make anything actually plausible to anyone who wasn't desperately unhappy and ready to believe anything for an escape, even a 5th rate hoaxer.

It’s fairly common for kids to go to college and discover OMG DIFFERENT OPINIONS ABOUT THE WORLD and dive head long into them. It might be a reaction about Daddy dumping Mom for no 4 and adopting her kids/catfisher situation, but I view it as fairly normal and even positive. She’s questioning the world around her in a normal teenage/early 20s way and no longer parroting the “I want to be a sister wife” narrative, which would have been worse. In a couple of years she might well have changed her opinions again or even actually become a sisterwife but I’m glad she seems to be doing her version of exploring other ideas and “finding herself” away from home. Added to that she has to deal with her family's reality TV show where she either has to suck it up and give muted answers during "tell nothings" or launch into a rant and not only upset her family but maybe have TLC try and figure out how to spin this into "Mariah's Wild phase" storyline, which she may or may not want. College me would not have benefitted from being in the public eye so I do sympathise with all their kids.
-
Yeah and suddenly the mystery of why she wanted the Wet Bar is clear (I'd forgotten that). I do kind of sympathise with Meri when people were saying she should just live with one of the other wives or have a small apartment because she had only one high school aged child. She would only have had much less in "assets" than the other wives and thought of that as a "punishment" for not popping out as many spirit babies as the others and everything would have gone to hell much sooner. She could have had a smaller house, but seeing as how *none* of them could actually afford them, I can see why she just thought "to hell with it" other than being selfish I mean Or maybe Kody would have liked a quiet apartment away from everyone else. It seems like he did at one point have a "man cave" at Meri's. If it's true that it was code for I/we'll make tons of money using my kitchen for LIV events, then that sort of makes sense. If she's got a "show room" type kitchen with lots "bar" area to showcase green goop it might look more attractive, but it doesn't seem to have paid off financially for the Browns and helped the catfish enter their lives. Oh hey Jackie, if you're looking for validation on her, just be sure to note Catholic Priests where pink bunny suits at Holy Days of Obligation and Vegans have a special type of blue milk they love, just FYI.
-
I'm actually kind of annoyed that with how much emotional and hoped for financial investment Overton was counting on that "Sam" as so sloppy. Taking such an (in)famous brand name to brag about, surely she had to know that was provable with the most rudimentary digging. Even Meri could conceivably wikied "Kool Aid founder family" to see how wealthy he was if nothing else. Overton clearly knows very little about Catholicism but seems to have done little to educate herself. Not bothered to attend a local mass and get "insider info", check out any official literature online or research the large number of blogs, forums etc of devout US Catholics. Surely a multi millionaire, devout, social media addict like Sam would be a leading light in the Catholic blogger world. Nor does she realise that devout Catholics are unlikely to use Tarot or take it seriously if they do have a reading. Similar it takes two seconds to google "death card Tarot" and realise that it doesn't mean actual death. She's apparently never taken the time to research Veganism or she would have realised that it's much more than "Veggie Plus" and that devoted Vegans would find the smell of bacon vomit inducing or appetising, that their favourite dish would never be funeral potatoes and the traditional Superbowl party would be 100% inedible and to be avoided not celebrated. And that no football fan takes his time shopping in Yankee Candle before a big game. If he's there, it's because he's miraculously remembered a birthday or something for his SO and rushed in and grabbed the first colourful candle he sees. Nor do they personally redecorate at Hobby Lobby. Or that wealthy business men don't give random time off for their staff at the drop of a hat, especially not 2 days before the "event". A Jewish firm that I interact with closes early on Friday during winter and the guy I was talking to stayed later than usual so we could sort some issues out (I think he made it in time). My father was a business man and he constantly stayed late and had is work with him, even on vacation in case something came up. That is how successful businesses work. I'm not advocating that anyone do these things, and it certainly made it obvious this "guy" wasn't for real, but........I guess I feel like exposed internet scammers should have put more effort into it before their lies get too outrageous to ignore, like Warrior Eli or even the Duggar "fandom's" Razing Ruth. In fact as everyone else has said, I don't think she's ever significantly interacted with a straight man before.
-
Yeah because owners of supposedly very successful international businesses give their employees a half day off at short notice so they can go home and prep for their Superbowl parties on Sunday after giving them days off to go Christmas shopping late last year, oh and how sweet Jackie was probably planning to have "Sam" give his employees Valentine's Day off because he loves them all so much and knows they need to prep that special night for their SO. Is that all 3 companies? Because that is absolutely what a multi millionaire who presumably would like to stay a multi millionaire would do, give everyone the off for their own personal enjoyment, especially when he works so much in countries where Superbowl is not even a blip on their radar and people can spend a day getting ready. Jackie, it doesn't make Sam look philanthropic, it makes you look pathetic. MSWC had a better business model than "he" does. His "he" going to give people time off to arrange their Chinese New Year/Shrove Tuesday(Pancake Day)/Ash Wednesday family get togethers all next week as well? Yo Sam I'm having a post Superbowl blow out part yhangover Monday Morning an awesome CNY/Pancake Day mash up, and of course I have to attend Church on Wednesday, I assume its ok to make it to the office maybe Thursday-ish? Has this woman ever left her house?
