  1. The FDA banned trans fats last year, with an off the shelf date by June 2018. However, most food companies have been 0 TF for the most part, especially if they sell in California and NY State. Most margarine and shortening manufacturers had 0 TF options available in 2011, when California law went into effect. This might be the issue with Country Crock-in changing their formula to 0 TF, the taste and flavor may have been altered. It's not a simple matter of subbing fat for fat. Hydrogenated vegetable oil behaves very differently than palm oil, high oleic soybean oil, canola oil, etc, so it's actually very likely this caused the issue with the taste. Have you tried some of the olive oil spreads if going to straight butter isn't an option?
  2. You made me remember how much I hated Tom Cruise for Valkyrie alone. WHY ARE PEOPLE SPEAKING IN ENGLISH ACCENTS WHEN THEY ARE GERMAN CHARACTERS??? The story is so good, so compelling. He fucking RUINED IT.
  3. Like....how has no one successfully sued Scientology for paying to get telepathic abilities and not receiving them? Surely the US has more robust consumer protection laws. Right???
  4. I thought this season was great, too. I really liked the re-centering of the story on Pena, he was always the more interesting character, plus Pedro Pascal is a far superior narrator. I didn't want to spoil myself about the fate of the characters, but I got so nervous for Jorge and his family that I had to do some googling to quell my anxiety. I also really liked Pacho's character and his motivations for not wanting to surrender being tied to his sexual orientation and how the cartel gave him the power to live his life as he wished. Whether or not that's true, I have no idea, but as a narrative device, it worked for me! LOL at Maria that just bounced around from protective dick to protective dick. You've gotta admire those survival skills. And the fact that it led to David's death was particularly satisfying. If you just listened to your dad, you little asshole... Excited about the move to Mexico! I don't even care if they change central characters, I really liked the new DEA agents that got introduced this season. But can Hot Colonel Martinez somehow find a reason to show up there, too? Our time with him was brief, but VERY appreciated....
  5. Honestly, cinnamon roll dough is generally really easy to work with and not as challenging or scary as other yeast breads. It's usually a nice, soft, pliable dough, easy to roll out and work with. At least in my experience!
  6. It's really difficult to find the words to comment on this show when a 14 year old former reality show star is a judge, the shoes come from JC Penney, and the makeup is by Avon. Just. No words. I liked Brandon's look, but Kenya's was better.
  7. Yes, it was really tasty!
  8. I hauled in about 1/3 of the apples from my apple tree-it finally started producing full sized fruit this year! I made a bunch of apple recipes to use them up and to freeze, and let me tell you, has anyone ever made Ina's apple crisp? That recipe made 17 individual servings of apple crisp and let me tell you, I think they were exceptionally generous serving sizes. Cut the amount of apples to 3 pounds at least. Sheesh, Ina!!
  9. I saw Sara Moulton once point out that shells have sharp edges, but your fingers don't, so now I just crack the egg into a bowl and pop out the yolk. Unless I break the yolk on the cracking, I have yet to break a yolk since I started using this technique.
  10. I thought that it was a metaphor for Cooper/Bad Cooper. Turkey Jerky isn't the "real" thing, neither is Coop's doppelganger? I wouldn't have hated the Audrey scene so much if it actually felt like Audrey's character in there somewhere. But all the shouting and name calling was just super off to me. I always felt like Audrey was an introvert, so aggressive confrontation just felt so wrong.
  11. Me too! Although, I do not like cucumbers. For years, I thought I liked cucumbers, because, why WOULDN'T I like cucumbers? But after every party, the cucumbers from the crudite remained uneaten as I devoured the rest of the leftovers. I just never had an urge to eat them. I never pick them up on a salad bar. Then one day, a coworker said, "I don't like cucumbers," and it just dawned on me. NEITHER DO I. Now, to be even more confusing, I love tzatziki, I think cucumber water is perfectly fine, and pickled cucumbers are absolute LIFE for me. But raw, fresh cucumbers? Nope. I didn't really care for beets as a kid, and I still don't like boiled beets in a can, I prefer them roasted. There's a brand they're selling in the produce section now that come in a sauce. The sweet heat are the best.
  12. My favorite parts were the 90's nostalgia music (Ahhh, A Long December will always remind me of that one particular freshman crush in the winter of 1996-7), the montage with Fred Savage to MmmBop and then MmmBop slowed down to make it a tragically sad song, and, of course, Fred Savage tap dancing. And that's it.
  13. I thought it did for a second as well. There was a different tenor to his voice, like Cooper's real voice, versus when Dougie repeats things like "case files" and it's in that dreamy voice, versus the stronger, clearer voice of Cooper. I also thought that when the music was playing, Audrey would walk into the restaurant and THAT would wake Cooper up?
  14. She doesn't need an army. She needs one person to murder Sansa and Jon. A warning to not underestimate Cersei was all Sansa was giving, but, once again, Jon is so far up his own ass that he couldn't even acknowledge it politely. Good for Jon and Jaime looking at it strategically, but in the show I'm watching, Cersei has never been strategically clever. She's been murderously ruthless, and if Jon doesn't think she's coming for them somehow, or to at least prepare himself for the possibility, it's his detriment. The fact that the conversation took place is a foreshadowing, since dialogue is rarely non-essential on this show.
  15. Actually, I thought it looked like the reaction was mixed. But the decision WASN'T made, or at least, not to Sansa's knowledge. They were discussing the closest strongholds to the Wall, and someone said they should tear down the Karstarks, etc, etc, and she said the castles aren't useless, and they should be given to those that were loyal. At the very least, Jon should have acknowledged her advice as the way of doing things in a different time, but these were different circumstances. He was just as much to blame for their public disagreement as she was. And Jon, like Jaime, doesn't understand the lengths Cersei will go to for revenge. She blew up a goddamn church with the Queen in it because they humiliated her. She thinks Sansa murdered Joffrey, in what world is she going to let that stand? The underestimation of Cersei's determination is Jaime's biggest fault and now it's Jon's potential mistake.
  16. But she didn't disagree with him, straight away, she suggested that the closest strongholds NOT be torn down, but given to other lords. Then Jon shot her down. Then she stood up for herself.
  17. So any good idea she does have is negated by bad ones? Jon should be batting -.400 then.
  18. What was she wrong about last season? "Let's go take Winterfell!" Great idea. "Don't do what Ramsay wants." Also a great idea. "Let's ask the Vale for help so we have more men before attacking Winterfell!" Again, also a great idea. She predicted that Rickon would die because he was a legitimate Stark. What was she wrong about?
  19. Arya!! Girl, slayyyyyyyyyy. Slayyyyyyy! Little Lady Mormont for the feminism win! (Please please please make Sansa want to also train to fight and Lady Mormont gets to help.....) Sassy Sansa is the best Sansa. Jon is being a condescending dick to her. Period. It wasn't just her "undermining" him in front of others, it was him dismissing her very valid opinion and stance on the treacherous assholes that betrayed their families. Ugh. And then him not listening about Cersei. Jon Snow, you fucking tool.
  20. My first trip to Europe, we flew Air France and they gave us yogurt with granola and all of the Euros around me poured their granola into their yogurt, so I followed suit and my mind was blown! Now if I have to eat yogurt without any crunchy accompaniments, it makes me sad!
  21. Not sure if it's barrel aged or no, but a really affordable chardonnay that's great is Bogle. It's usually in the $10-12 range. I think it's really well balanced.
  22. Really??? Awesome!!! I adore her. I was always terrified to cook a whole fish at home until we cooked some on vacation in Montenegro a few years ago. A fresh fish guy drove around every day and we bought fish out of his trunk (not even kidding, but it was on ice, everything looked and smelled fresh, he was very sanitary), and he cleaned them for us. I just followed the example of a million TV chefs, and stuffed it with lemon and fresh herbs. More than one friend said it was the best fish they'd ever had. Keeping it whole really does enhance the flavor and tenderness. It also makes it harder to overcook, because we were cooking those bad boys on a cheap charcoal grill and got the most amazing results.
  23. I was more invested in the south central storyline, because of (and with all apologies to those that suffered in Nicaragua) the tragic and horrifying devastation that the crack/cocaine epidemic perpetuated in the inner city communities. I don't care if the CIA was part of it (I mean, I'm okay with that being part of the story, but that's not THE story in all of this), and I don't care about the ways cocaine got into the country. I care about the very real people and families it destroyed. I'll give it a shot for several more episodes. I like Franklin and the actor playing him and BONUS BRIANNA BARKSDALE AS HIS MOM. I think the South Central cast was more impressive, I love the actress playing Claudia. She scared me a hell of a lot more than the "crazy" Israeli.
  24. No, currently I have to pull it out in order to tilt the head, and I have to tilt the head on this mixer in order to get in there with a spatula to scrape the sides.
  25. Question for the bakers on the forum-I currently have a Hamilton Beach stand mixer, but I hate the tilt head (it's ALWAYS locked, as opposed to the Kitchen Aid where you get the option), as the tilted head doesn't fit under my cabinet, so I have to pull it out and it's super awkward. I'm considering the Kitchen Aid mixers with the drop down bowl, and wondered if any of you had any strong opinions one way or another on it? I mean, a Kitchen Aid is an investment and never a waste of money, but there's no need to spend it if I'm just gong to hate the design. I grew up with the classic Kitchen Aid and vastly prefer that as well over the Hamilton Beach.
