  1. I think that's definitely true I liked how quick he was to defend Beth on the most recent Talking Dead. Gimple seems very invested in her character and all the women on the show which is a great sign. Although he was probably a little two quick I got the feeling he'd done it before. That's what truly worries me about the women on this show, that Gimple isn't show much the man in charge as he is the straw boss for Kirkman. I have heard nothing good about Kirkman and nothing about him or the comics convinces me that he has clue about writing female characters. I don't hate Lori either, I don't particularly like her but I did understand her at certain points, I think Lori was just someone who was used to always getting what she wanted and didn't quite know how to deal when the world went to shit. Lori didn't know who to deal with the new world so she trued like hell to make it look like the old world. That's why she clashed with Andrea, because Andrea was adapting to the new world and threatening Lori's position as the Queen bee. Andrea I could like at certain points she was just very inconsistent overall. I think the actress was just miscast more than anything. Andrea was writtten as young woman and the actress was nearly fourty. Andrea's relationship with Guvernor and Woodbury make a lot more sense when you realize the character is supposed to be a lot younger. I think with Tara and Rosita I'm still waiting for them to transcend the cliche a bit. I'm wary of both thier characters because they are fairly blatant case of tokenism. I think Rosita could be a good character if only because the character seems willing to speak her mind. I just hope we see more from her next season. I have this issue with Carol so many of her lines seem to come out in a whine and she soooo self pitying. I find it so irratating, I can forgive a lot from characters but self pity always drives me up the wall.. I feel like saying "Yes you are a burden, now shut up cuz whining just makes you an annoying burden". Or yes Karen and David were sick however that was not their fault, you stabing them in the head was your fault. Now quit trying to manipulate Tyreese/Rick with your aligator tears. I don't hate Carol yet but I'm getting there. I think her reaction to being back with the group will make or break it. for me. I don't think she should be on her knees begging for forgiveness but some genuine contrition would be nice. If she plays the victim and makes out like Rick is the bad guy I will officallly be routing for the walkers to get her.
  2. I love Michonne as I just hope she doesn't end engaging in the bedhopping that her comic book character did. Although I think at this point the writers have put so much effort into setting up Richonne and there has been such a huge fan response I think they need to pay that off somewhat. I think Beth has potential maybe not as a badass but she could end up taking a much more traditional role and gaining power and agency from that. I tihnk it might take a season or two but the journey is part of the fun. Even now Beth has pull over both Darryl and even Rick through his kids. She could end being someone who has a lot of power within the group itself even if she stays in a caregiver type of role. Lori was a failure characterwise because no one appreciated her efforts and she wound up stirring up more trouble than she solved. I don't see Beth making the same mistakes. Lori was a fundametally selfish person her goal was always her own interests where Beth is self sacrificing and would put the groups interests ahead of her own. I really could see Beth becoming someone who takes care of the day to day minutia of laundry and food and chasing kids and officailly has no rank but still winds up having a lot influence because the groups leaders trust her moral compass. She would be the more subversive type of feminist type of character and I think it would be nice for the show to acknowledge the world needs more than just hardcore Zombie killers if humanity is going to survive.
  3. I wonder about the hospital types being the real cannibals because Carol gets captured by them. I've said since halfway through 4b that Carol was going to end up as tainted meat and that would fit with that for me. I can see them giving her a big death to pacify that part of the fanbase or at least justify their decision. In any case I think Carol's capture is the end of the line for her, either she dies trying to save Beth(god to be on tumblr if that happens) or she sacrifices herself for the group. The only scenario where she lives is if she stays there because she realizes she has no place in the group anymore. (I'm so glad this board is getting more traffic it so nice to be able to discuss Carol without being accused of being fifteen and in love with Norman Reedus. Cuz apparently that's the only reason anyone would dislike Carol, I have rolled my eyes so much this summer I think I developed eyestrain.) I do like that it appears Beth is taking on a more medical role, I always thought that was the best fit for her going forward given her personality. They're not going back to Hershel's farm filming spoilers have debunked that particular rumor. It could be someplace that's like Herschel's farm though. I could see Rick going back home one last time before the leave. To regroup and refuel for their journey if nothing else.
  4. Sam Anders (BSG) : Most of the awesome fighting skills of his wife but about half the personality issues and a briliant scientist to boot. (Although I wouldn't so no if he wanted to bring her along obviously). Plus he's already survied the apocolpyse twice so he must be doing something right. Fiona Gallgher (Shameless US) : I really love her and she'd be totatly fun to hang with. Plus her Galagher survival skills can only come in handy and shes already an awesome Team Mom.(Its a Zombie apocoloyse so probabilty of coke related lapses in judgement are low) The Tam siblings (Firefly) I know technically their two people but I don't see getting one without the other so I'm counting them as one. They are totally awesome badasses and Simon is a great doctor. Kira Nyrese (DS9) One of the most truly awesome badasses in the history of Trek and one truly strong woman. Sayid Jarah (Lost) Smart pretty and he can fix stuff.
  5. I think he was just pissed she was so nice before hand an then just unloaded at the table. She really was over the top I also think he was actually laughing at her at certain point too. Considering I also think she finally clued in that she was making fun of her with his snarky little comments. I liked Tyler it was funny to realize hom much of Tyler is in Nikolas I definitely recognized that sense of humor in any case. I also don't think it so much a matter of Tyler being uptight he's just stoic and some of thats probably cultural. Media tends to exagerrate the Native tendecy towards stoicism but it definitely exists and I think Tyler is fairly good example of it. With Natives its not so much not being able to goof off(Tyler certianly had fun messing with Devin) but we like to keep a lid on the more negative emotions like anger unless there is a really good reason especially in front of an audience. It's about saving face not necessarily suppresing emotion, most of my mothers family firmly believes you can have any kind of feeling or outburst you want just don't ever do it in public Plus Devin and Ronn were so pretentious it was alomst unreal. Ronn is probably going to be pissed when he realizes how he came off.I laughed so hard when Devin said Ashton Kutcher bought her picture like that actually meant it was good.Ronn was creepy too when he was talking about the other wife.
  6. I suspect that many of the upgrades are product placed and are either cheaper than budget options without the product placement if not actually free. You'll notice how at the end of the show their are always a string of logo's for things like flooring and tile.
  7. And I think this is exactly how Carol is going to end up this season. Tyrese himself said he forgives her but I don't think he trusts her. I can see already the rest of the group having similar issues. Putting aside the morality of what Carol did the fact that she did it herself may be what really bites her in the end. I'm also not convinced Carol really deserves that trust in any case. I'm not convinced she really understands how truly arrogant killing Karvid was in the first place. I think she undertands it was wrong to kill two people but I'm not sure she got the message that it wasn't her call to make and that isn't quite as smart as she thinks she is. Until Carol realizes her own limits she will continue to be a danger to herself and the group as a whole. I don't see any real solid bonds though at least not anything shown onscreen. That's been a big issue with her character since the ned of season 2. This show is trying to be a character drama and the fact is the more people you can interact with the more storylines you can be involved in. I wouldn't call Tyrese her frined in any case, he has forgiven but he doesn't seem to want to speak to her. I don't think Carol fits that role though, I actually suspect that's why they brought in Abraham and Co. Carol acts behind the scenes, even killing Karvid only amounted a few scenes of real conflict, (And 900,000 online discussions.)
  8. I don't know about that I think the show is ridiing pretty high right now that does tend to translate into TPTB being willing to take risks. Plus I'm not a hundred percent convinced Carol would be that popular with the overall audience. She's certianly popular with the online one but that doesn't always translate to popular with the larger audience. Shows still tend to weigh more heavily on market research than inernet forums for feedback. Lana Lang is classic example she was hated online but TPTB promoted her like crazy because their market research showed she was popular. I wonder about Carol being popular with casual veiwers since she had such a small role prior to this season. Plus she's not an Action girl or love interest or any one of the types that tend to be popular with wider audiences in any case. In the end I would rather TPTB kill someone cuz thier story has ended rather than anything else. In the end the internet portion of a fandom is usually only a sample anyway.(plus it tends ot be a specific set of demos that don't always match up with audeince of the show) I actually think Carol's story is over in any case, her only real freind left is Darryl and he has moved in a completely different direction from her. Plus as Team Mom she didn't really interact with the other characters enough to make that a viable option for her going forward. Either for her character having room to grow or for her being a character that is vital to the story. She doesn't really another she can believeably take over either the show already has three Lancers and she sure as hell isn't the Big guy or the smart guy. She's not the heart or an action girl shes not really anything. The only thing I could see her being is The medic and if Bob is around they don't even need her for that. That's why I think Carol's goin to die she's just run out of room to grow. Plus I wonder if she actually got the message that she isn't a law unto herself. I think in the Grove she realized killing Karvid was wrong because she hurt Ty but I wonder if she really undertands that she really isn't as good as she thinks she is. More than anything that arrogance will make it impossible for her to intergrate back into the group. Especially out on the road the group needs to be cohesive Carol trying to do her own thing and go against Rick is just going to cause trouble.
  9. I think its less Asperger's and more extrmeme abuse. As NR has said he doesn't really asociate touch with something positive because he's been so severely abused he expects to be hit. Its a symptom you see in cases of Reactive Attachment Disorder actually. The difference is that Asberger's cases don't like being touched because of sensory issues they can't control cases like Darryl's can actually change He has warmed up to being touched somewhat even in the premiere he was a lot less gaurded. Darryl doesn't really have any of the other hallmarks of Aspergers like lack of understanding other emotions Darryl's actually fairly sensitive. I think plenty of people who like Bethyl(or Deth) but there are just also a lot of people who like Caryl and are butthurt over having competition. I feel like Carol and Darryl are on completely different pages and places in life. Emotionally Darryl is still very young and is just starting to figure out what he really wants. Carol has been married had her kids and just wants someone to love her. Morally as well I think they've definitely moved to opposite poles. Darryl is pulling back from the extreme he believes in people where Carol believes she is a law unto herself. I also feel like Carol mommies him and relies on him for protection in a way I find creepier than any age gap. A couple of thier scenes have made me unconfortable actually cuz if a man had continued making sexual remarks while a woman told him to stop we would still be hearing about it from feminists. With Beth I think actually part what disarms Darryl about her is there nothing to fear from her, he knows she won't hurt him on an instinctive level. That's part of why he opened up to her and I think that's part of his atttraction to her. I also think while they go about it in very different ways they enjoy taking care of the group. That scene of Beth setting up camp while Darryl hunted was very specific way of showing that. While they might come from different places they do seem to have come to a place of understanding
  10. Emily Kinney has officially been spotted on set and in her ugky gray sweater, tumblr is damn near exploding. Looks like Beth will be back, although where and how are still up for debate. I always knew they wouldn't kill her off shes too useful and it would be too much like Sophia but now I'm really starting to wonder what the hell happened to her.
  11. I think that has more to do with Berlin being around the same age a Irisa though more than anything, My mom tends to call anyone around my age as a "kid" for the same reason.
  12. Actually given Pottinger's accent and Amanda's comments last week I think they may be going for a British East India trading company parallel rather than the more traditional Space Nazi's. Although in terms of racism the difference between the two is really only by degree The British Empire definitely believed their race was superior and had a right to rule over everybody else. The British just generally believed the savages could be converted and salvaged as slave labor instead of wiped off the face of the earth. (For the most part anyway some Irish academics definitely disagree). Although they weren't shy about sacrificing a few of them along the way, by some estimates they killed more people than the Nazi's did. I wish I had a few more historical examples but the British Raj is one of those parts of history I don't know as much about. Most of my knowledge of the British Empire is about Ireland and British North America and to a lesser extent Africa and China.
  13. I don't really have a problem with what Oliver said I just think he could have said it in a way that was more diplomatic.
  14. Yeah Pottinger broke a couple rules on the evil overload list there himself. Interestingly it actually includes the same rule Datak broke. I like that Pottinger isn't total caricature but is still definitely not a nice guy. I like the moment when his Bio-man was actually concerned for him. Bio men are actually one of those things about this universe that really fascinate me. So many questions about what they are and what they can do. This show is definitely firing on all cylinders last year it couldn't seem to decide whether it was DS9, Stargate or Farscape and now it is decidedly Defiance with its own unique blend of all of those things and (I know I say this every week) it is awesome. A couple of things I find really interesting about Stahma is her comments about "the nuns at the academy" which seems to indicate she has her own resentment of religion and abusive past. I also find her devotion to Alak somewhat surprising, given how he has seemed to disappoint her prior to this that she felt his injury so deeply. I always wondered if her devotion to her son was rooted in the same self interest that her devotion to Datak was but now it seems she truly does love him. Loved the scene with Irisa walking in on Nolan and Amanda it was hilairious and very them.
  15. Or himself, he a tool so I'm hoping for that option. Frosty is really starting to flounder, she's isolated and has zero storyline. I always thought if any of the original five quit it would be her, I almost wonder if that's what they building up to. Gail's a good cop but I feel like she only became one because she couldn't think of anything better to do. Eventually she is going to burn out because her hearts not really in it. Although Diaz was floundering plenty last year and his is my favourite storyline this year. Dov's reaction to this was always going to be half the fun of the storyline I can't wait to see what happens next. TPTB seem to be really trying to underplay this which bodes well. Tracy seems like the natural chioce to find out next since she also seems to be on to Chris and shes always been Team Mom I wonder if that's not what Steve Peck is yelling at her about next week. Oliver officially gave Chief O'brien a run for his money in the worst day ever competition this week. I liked his interaction with Andy even if he was a little harsh. His relationship with his daughter is adorable even she's kinda a brat. That video was taken without Andy's permission no way any hearing allows it in any circumstance.so I was annoyed by that.
  16. Brendan Fehr killed it this episode he was good on Roswell he was probably the most talented of all the kids but this episode was really great.
  17. I did notice how there is not a single Votan in E-rep military or in any kind of power position. That points to me to some kind of discrimination official or otherwise. I think Tommy is an idealist and has bought in to the E-rep to a point. Or as I said in the premiere Jammer I just hope the Nolan's can snap him out of it before he goes out the airlock. I also think Tommy is in for a "bad girl who doesn't communicate" versus "good on paper girl" choice that usually reserved for female characters.
  18. Well Sam's dark backstory is dark and really there's nothing there we didn't expect. It was well acted and I think Andy's words actually landed for once. Its such a tricky balance letting character's grow without having them do a complete 180. I like that McSwarek is not perfect but Sam really does seem to be trying. At least this time around it seems like Sam gets that he needs to change. Dov and Dov's girlfirend need a new story this one is officially old news. I have a feeling Detective Peck had something to do with Dex's attack this story doesn't feel done yet.
  19. I don't think we know enough about Votan tech to say whether its and AI or not. It could be a super intelligent being they brought over on the ship in stasis. Also one thing DS9 taught its "God" is in the eye of the worshipper. This thing being an AI or just an alien doesn't rule out it being considered a god to the Votan's.
  20. Awesome show is awesome. I really missed this show while it was gone. I'm too much of trekkie to subsist on "realistic" scifi. I enjoy Orphan Black and The Walking Dead but nothing beats the transportive effect you get from shows that take the whole new world idea to the next level.Skiffy is really sinking the money into this one buliding the Angeles Arc couldn't have been cheap. Stahma is awesome and kicking it up a notch. I'm surprised how much I liked Alak in this. They managed to show why he is completely ill-suited to take his fathers place without him coming off as a douche or an idiot. Nolan and Irisa are made of win. I love these two so much. Amanda is going to a dark place but given how much of last season she spent giving speeches from on high she kinda needed to be taken down a notch. Drugs was a bit of surprise though she so much about control something that destructive seems a little OOC. So Tommy is Jammer? I hope Nolan and Irisa can snap him out of it. I laughed when the kids flat out called the E-rep Nazi's. This show is certainly not afraid of the fact that its derivative, something I have to give it credit for. Although I think British imperial troops is probably more the historical parallel the show is going for. It sounded a lot like Hebrew to me or possible bad Russian. I could see though given the upheaval that's gone on and the fact that the old world is effectively gone new religions based on a blend of the old faith and the new aliens one could spring up . That or the priest was giving the new equivalent of an inter-denominational service.
  21. Aw I've actually been liking her character this week. Tracy may have her flaws but she genuinely loves her brother, which is even more interesting considering they grew up in entirely different households and are 15 years apart. I've always had a soft spot for Tracy but she actually managed to earn it this week. The episode today both moments where she told Peter she knows he didn't do it and hugged Simon were really sweet. I do like that she's standing up to Rob whom I've always hated. I almost laughed at him calling Peter gutless since I've never seen any evidence Rob has a spine. Deirdre is of course believing blindly in her child's innocence despite the fact that Peter is forty odd years old and not actually her child. Although I think after all these years he feels like hers and frankly I think she likes him better than Tracy most of time anyway(it helps that Peter actually appreciates her probably because he never really had a mother to begin with). I did laugh at Liz's reaction to Deirdre's defense of Peter those two really great friends and Liz knows better than anyone how blind Deirdre is sometimes. Besides it not like the shoe has never been on the other foot Steve is no angel either. I really felt sorry for Deirdre when Carla laid into her. Dierdre didn't deserve that and to me it just shows how selfish and nasty Carla is. It seems like bullying, tearing a strip of someone who has flat out said they don't want to fight you, especially someone as harmless as Deirdre. I wish Dierdre or even Liz had said you'll understand when you have a child of your own.
  22. I keep trying to puzzle out Siobhan's background and I keep going around in circles. The simplest answer is that she was IRA (given the era and her accent) and had to leave that for one reason or another went over to England and got caught up in the labor movement there. However if there ever was a show where the simplest answer is the wrong one its this one. I also wonder if she wasn't MI-5 and switched loyalties at some point, they have been accused of infiltrating the labor movement in England more than once. She definitely has some kind combat training, she moves like a soldier and has the discipline to go with it. Something more along the lines of the IRA makes sense though because she always attacks sideways which would go with a terrorist mentality. In any case she's one of my favourite characters and the thing that made me tune in initially. I loved Maria Doyle Kennedy on The Tudors (the first two seasons that were good anyway) and I figured she wouldn't be doing anything too awful.
  23. Or he was brainwashed by Helena, she died now he has to go complete his mission to destroy Luke. I don't know but but there is something about how formal his speech is that made me think of the Cassadines. "Buxom" is not a word you hear in conversation often but is very in line with the pseodo-Gothic way the Cassadine's have always spoken. I supposed it could be Zombie Mikos or Jery Jacks for that reason. Maybe I just wish Stefan would come back though, he was always a fave of mine.
  24. I actually think it could be brilliant. Cops using drugs is actually fairly common for the same reasons alcohol abuse and divorce rates are sky high among cops. I'm not sure this quite the show to address that but it could be interesting. Also the attitude about substance abuse in cops is different up here. As long as Chris goes to treatment and doesn't do anything particular stupid to feed his addiction he could still have a job at the end of all this. Most forces will try to keep it quiet but I actually know a cop who has been to rehab and gone back to work. Plus given what we do know about Chris's family history addiction is fairly consistent with his character. Dov's reaction will be interesting considering his history with his brother too, he might actually be the first to figure it out. Your not supposed too, he was strung out (maybe high maybe just coming down). It was really well played by the actor actually I didn't put it together on the first viewing but it seems obvious now. Its really easy to play something like that over the top, the fact that actor seems to have handle on this is part of what's making me optimistic about this story.
  25. I think Puke (love the nickname BTW) is Stefan. Killing of one of Alexis unworthy suitors is totally the crazy loving controlling Stefan way. And Puke seems very interested in Alexis and Sam. The way he talks is very formal and imperious and very Stefan as well. Plus Stefan has actually spent a lot of time with Luke over the years I could see him impersonating Luke easily(not that has ever stopped soaps). Isn't Stefan supposed to be wrapped in Robin's story anyway?
