  1. You think he knows Naz is under Chalky White's protection?
  2. What, what, what?? Mickey with the stupid bowler hat and stupider laugh who wouldn't die no matter how much we all prayed for it? THAT Boardwalk Empire Mickey? Serves me right for watching most of this series on an iPhone. <sigh>
  3. Gloria Estefan looks great, and very natural, especially compared to some overly worked aging stars we've seen this evening .
  4. It seems the telecast is pretty ambitious so far. Don't know if they'll succeed, but at least they're trying.
  5. According to "Penn's Sunday School" (Penn's weekly webcast), everyone tried to move heaven and earth to get Ross's schedule and the taping schedule to coincide, but it just didn't work out. Penn is happy with the second choice of Hannigan because not only is she good, but she's in such a different direction than Ross that hopefully no one will think they were only trying to replace him because they were unhappy with his work. Penn wants Ross back for the next season for sure, he says.
  6. And didn't she play a big role testifying about her appearance as a teen celebrity contestant in the congressional hearings on TV game shows in the 50s? OK, this is a run-on sentence, but I'm upset and you know what I mean. :(
  7. Yes, exactly! "Mr. Adams, leave me aloooooone...!"
  8. :::::throwing myself on the ground, gnashing teeth, and sobbing uncontrollably...::::
  9. Thank you for posting this and for mentioning the third book was still unfinished...I had a small heart attack thinking I had somehow missed it....!
  10. What if I don't WANNA know what's lurking in my mattress?? :(
  11. Yup, I agree...I'm all in, especially if the following shows live up to the level of the premiere. Slightly OT: During the the very first taped bit, my heart sank...but only because I thought they were using a laugh track. Who the hell uses a laugh track anymore? Then the show pulled back to show the studio audience, laughing perfectly on cue. Ahem....sorry, Samantha, for doubting you. ;)
  12. If Glee can be one honkin' grand slam hit, why can't this show?? </whiiiiiiine> On topic: did everyone else (as opposed to me saying "anyone else", because you all are so damn observant) get a smallish kick out of the "Titanic" reference during the Madalena/Wormwood duet? Her arms outstretched, him holding her waist from behind, and a throwaway line of "Don't let go..."?
  13. I know an older couple who lost everything by investing it with Madeoff. While they were not among the super rich, they were living in a high-class downtown concierge condominium. They are now in affordable housing. While I do not know the details of their investments, I do know that they invested everything with him. There was no diversification at all, something which drove my husband crazy. It's one thing to be conned by a sociopath, but it's always an absolute investment no-no to put all your eggs in one basket. Still, they are victims, and both had to return to work. After the initial shock and panic, they handled their new situation with grace, even though they had their lives turned upside down.
  14. See, this is what I thought, too. And I'm someone who cannot pass by a new version of a sports bra without thinking, "are you the one??" But I sweat profusely when I work out, and this seemed constructed more like a life vest, rather than a lightweight sports bra. Those big wide straps holding all that absorbed sweat next to my body, or merely adding more weight, does not seem like a comfortable design. Still, I'm looking forward to any real-life reviews from the folks here. Would love to be proven wrong.
  15. Because he paid a lot for them? (Sorry for the snark, such as it is, but have you ever seen a photo of The Fabulous Mr. C before he was famous? His teeth were not so terrific.)
  16. The entire scene and musical number with Death was brilliant...I've been singing the "Goodbye" song all day.... "Goodbyyyyyyyye....seems as though we just said hiiiiiii...." "We did."
  17. You know, I thought I saw it, too, a thin strip along the bottom of the filling. But, I was cowed out of that idea by Stephen's insistence there was NO tomato there. I can't believe my own lying eyes, apparently.
  18. Nutjob and cpcathy, I thought I was the only one (or few) who couldn't stomach AHSthis season after only one episode. Not even the amazing Kathy Bates could entice me to come back to that (red) hot mess for a second shot. And I was looking forward to the season! Lady Gaga was horrendous.
  19. Charlie! Charlie Gerhardt is still alive...unless he picked up some weird virus in the hospital and died. Sure didn't have many family members left to act as health advocates for him, did he?
  20. Yup, I'm sure we'll have another installment of the Hungry for Power Games...whether it's with just this one fallen tribute or more to come over the holidays. IMHO, it's one of the few sure-fire bits LSSC has. (Not that they don't have other fun shticks, but this one's always a crowd-pleaser.)

    Serial

I'm one of the few people in the US who did NOT listen to season 1, and to my brother in law, the only other podcast enthusiast I know, that defies comprehension. So be it. ;) Maybe I bring a different perspective, but having just heard the second episode of Bowe's story, I think the show so far is interesting. Certainly a great deal of work has gone into the research, and I'm sure keeping track of all the military tactics, terms and information could not have been easy. My personal opinion, which Ep. 1 did nothing to change, is the Bowe deserted, plain and simple, and used the example of his superiors' failures as an excuse. I really am looking forward to having my mind changed about this, but I'm doubtful it will happen. I will, however, continue to listen.
  22. Probably because Kareoke in the bar would more likely than not happen in the evening, I suppose.
  23. Maybe Mike's arrival will finally give Tandy back some dignity, ("Treat my brother with some respect!") and Original Phil won't have to try so hard. Of course, that won't last...
  24. One of the few things that keeps this show from Emmy greatness and TV immortality is a lack of humor like this. :) We don't need belly laughs; just a nod to the silliness of it all now and then. Guess Kevin doesn't do "dad humor." (Although, his "Because it's stupid!" line was pretty hysterical.)
  25. I might have had an interest if all the ads hadn't drummed it out of me. I'm finishing up Limetown now, and the "actorish" performances take me right out of the conceit that it's supposed to be a news podcast. Don't care to go through that again, although, like with most stories, once you get started, it takes a lot to give it up midway. No listener wants to admit they've completely been wasting their time.
