  1. Totally agree - I thought the show was setting it up that Janine was actually the problem and her sister was the one with her life together, but I was surprised to see they are both damaged in different ways which really rings so true to what happens with siblings in real life. Nobody knows how to get to you like your family.... Being from California, that Drought board game hits a little too close to home, although maybe not since our state is about to float away..... Who else expect Mr. Johnson to say "TRASH" when he asked where Gregory's hat belonged? ;-p And more scenes with the entire faculty please - sometimes it feels like the school has six or seven teachers......
  2. I think Sam should actually write a fictional ghost series with the setting being Woodstone. Each book could tell the story of a "character" that died at the house, and she could sell their stories as historical fiction with actual facts weaved in - there is enough evidence that most of the more modern ghosts were real people, and the older ones like Sass or Thor that have no real evidence of existing could be explained as an archetype of people that she "discovers" have existed in the area over the centuries. She could start with Sass and say she was inspired to do it after what happened with the tree......
  3. I have only watched one episode, but I came here to vent - I am already over all of these assholes who make a living being "extra" and acting their most over the top worst selves just for some clicks. I am sick of reality shows casting "internet famous" people like they are celebrities - I am sure it's even cheaper than getting D-list celebrities as these people seem down for anything as long as they can make a buck on it and gain more followers. I like the science gal and Moira Schitt impersonator. That's about it. I didn't read the whole thread, so don't spoil me! Anyone farther along - do they settle down or are they all continuing their wacky schtick? I am disappointed that Jeff didn't return to lead the blue team - he was the perfect sweetness to Anne's toughness, and his personality worked so well for all the dumb games. The superchef seems kind of low energy for that stuff so far......
  4. Totally agree! It was frustrating seeing Sam put the ghosts ahead of Jay's feelings multiple times. And then all of the work he did for, let's face it, two dead people, is ridiculous, not to mention wasteful since nobody is actually going to eat it. I think it's time to stop pairing off all of these ghosts. We now have Nigel and Isaac, Hetty and Trevor, and Thor and Flower. Not to mention Pete pining after Alberta. They've been together for years and years and suddenly everyone is hooking up? Flower remains my least favorite ghost, so I really could have done without this pairing. But I would be lying if I said I wasn't all about the Hetty/Trevor pairing - they are weirdly awesome together!
  5. I am on the fence about Gregory and Janine - they do seem like soul mates, but the fact that they are coworkers is cringe to me. HR nightmare. Still, it was a cute moment. Barbara and Melissa were the best. Their glee at sitting next to the school supply lady was awesome. Melissa's digs at her sister, and the two of them roasting that woman. Epic. "We still got it". "I forgot my shoes". Ha! Can someone tell me who Ava was talking about at the end of the episode? It cut off before we could hear who she was talking about.
  6. Totally agree with this! Contrast her behavior with the child who shadowed Siegfried a few episodes ago. But I will say Jenny is has always been portrayed as pretty sassy, so there is that. Also, considering she is an only child being raised in the city, it might also explain her behavior a little more. Okay, now I'm talking myself out of my argument. ;-0 I do think she was a tad too old to think magic shoes would transport her back home though, and I don't think she would be calling the adults by their first names.
  7. The books are truly special, and I can appreciate them as a separate thing, but even without the books, this season leaned too far into the personal drama for a show called "All Creatures Great and Small". Compared to previous seasons, I felt it was a let down. I did still enjoy it, just not as much. Audrey's hovering was what annoyed me the most. She didn't need to be there, especially since she knew Gerald had showed up just for her. Most of the time the arguments between Tristan and Siegfried take place in front of everyone, and I don't mind when she tries to keep the peace in those situations, nor when either Tristan or Siegfried seek her out for her opinion or just to vent. But in this instance, they went off to have a private conversation that neither invited her to join. As I said earlier, she inserted herself unnecessarily into their conversation and her presence there seemed awkward.
  8. Ha! Same, only with that horse. I am still traumatized by what happened to horses on Walking Dead. When they tethered the horse to the tree, I was like nooooooo!!!! Glad the horse got out of there alive, Joel on the other hand........if this is the end for him, well, see you in a couple weeks Din Djarin! I know Joel is messed up by everything he's lived through, but to say Ellie can't understand is pretty messed up. She's a freaking orphan - she knows loss! I thought it was a good scene, and I do think Bella is a great actress, but I think she could have played that comeback even more unhinged in that moment.
  9. I hate to say it, but I totally agree. This season was less about the treatment of animals and more about the drama of the characters. It bears little resemblance to the books at this point other than in name. James was almost a secondary character as it focused more on the personal lives of Siegfried, Audrey and Tristan rather than the "creatures great and small". The scene that annoyed me the most was the Christmas episode where Audrey abandons the man she stage an entire party for just to insert herself in the argument between Siegfried and Tristan. And in this instance, it felt like intrusive overstepping. They are two grown men having a painful, very personal, private conversation, and she didn't just happen to be there, and nobody asked her to join. She was only there to create the drama of Gerald being left alone and leaving. As she stood there watching the back and forth and making half-hearted attempts to sweep it back under the rug, all I could think was buzz off lady - this doesn't concern you! Go back to your maybe boyfriend who is leaving in 10 minutes!
  10. Thank you! I finally finished this and I am shocked at how sloppy, messy and unprofessional these cakes looked for the finale! I am sorry, but Dru's cake was hideous! Why didn't he just do round cakes and put some kind of mountain-scape around the edges? That missile on top was atrocious. All of these cakes looked like they came from the kids baking championship. These people were all nice, but man, that was a disappointing finale just in terms of the quality of the final bakes.
  11. Actually, I think that bedroom scene was important. That is where we learn why they were all following this unhinged bitch. Without that scene, it really makes no sense why they would do whatever she said when the thing that makes most sense is to deal with that pulsing cordyceps floor and not go on a wild goose chase looking for two kids that are really no actual threat to the community at large at that point. I also think that scene gives Kathleen a little more gravitas, so to speak. To see her ruminating on her choices makes her less of a psychotic lunatic and more just a hurt woman who has turned bitter and chosen revenge over all else in the wake of the nightmare her life has become. For me, it's little scenes like this that make this show so good - they are doing such a great job making these characters come to life in such a small window of time.
  12. You are not wrong about Kathleen, but her muscle guy (I don't know his name) spelled out exactly why they were still following her - she was the reason they were able to organize and overthrow FEDRA - something her brother could never accomplish. For that job, being an arrogant vengeful bitch was useful. In the aftermath, not so much......
  13. Ok, finally got there and omg - the "kisses" emails getting out of control was hysterical. Less hysterical, Mikes inability to put up a tent or make a fire safely thus continuing his dim bulb status (and yes, I know Alison got help from the ghosts, but still, the writers love making him look dumb).....
  14. Gah! Nothing you have said here makes me want to survive the zombie/fungus apocalypse ;-p
  15. I was so glad Helen took James' side against her father and stood up for him in the office. The whole mess looked so shady mostly because of Mr. Alderson disposing of the cow, even worse than the paperwork because James has shown sloppy paperwork problems before. Plus the fact that it was his own father in law.....Helen is pretty great, but this made me like her more. And that Jenny - telling James they can take care of themselves - those Alderson girls are tough! I understand Siegfried laughing at Tristan for his premature proposal to Florence, but it was still cruel. I am glad Tristan stood up for himself, and not in a defensive childish manner. Good to see his growth this season. I was surprised to see the kids being bused in at this stage of the war. I thought they started doing that during the London blitz.
  16. I get what you're saying, but I do think there are enough people to live past meager subsistence - I mean, just the horrid filth is confounding. Sure you can't have new nikes but why stay in cities that have no way to support growing food and starting over? I know not everyone has the skills Bill had, but I personally know a lot of people just in my own life that possess engineering skills and even just tinker with things to a point that they could probably figure out how to make it work. If I know that many people, how are there zero people there that are trying to do what Bill has done? Lots of places in our own actual world have experienced catastrophic events and eventually they rebuild. I don't think the US would have collapsed to the level shown in this show or Walking Dead. But I am an optimistic person, so maybe it's my naivety that makes me think people would rise above. Maybe that's what draws us all to these shows - a voyeuristic view of how humanity behaves in an extreme crisis? Or, as I said in my OP, let me die first if this is the only outcome because I don't want to live like a savage hiding in a gross building eating 20 year old chef boyardee or killing people to survive......
  17. It's on my list - especially since it stars Big from Res Dogs! I just don't have an AMC streaming subscription so I'm not sure I can access it.
  18. It's hard for me as well, I think that's why Episode 3 was so great - two decent people trying to just live a normal life in the middle of the apocalypse. Fixing things instead of letting everything go to rot. I get that people do horrible things when they are desperate - we see that happen all the time and all the way down history, but it's so depressing to think almost EVERYONE would be that way. And every single show set in the apocalypse has been that way. Well, except Last Man On Earth, but that was a comedy. Still, in some ways that is what I think more people would be like. I mean, where are the people trying to rebuild? Nowhere? No-one???? It's not the immediate aftermath here, it's 20 years! I know Kathleen was broken by all that came before, but saying "maybe he (sam) was supposed to die" - what? By that logic, maybe her brother was supposed to be turned in! God, it makes me think if I end up in this situation, please just eat me first. I don't want to live that way or be that kind of person. This episode was waaayyyy more bleak and sad than Episode 3. How gutting for Sam and Henry to go out that way. Ellie's back and forth on Sam's board was brutal. "I'm scared of ending up alone", "If you turn into a monster is it still you inside" "I'm sorry". All heartbreaking. But for me, the saddest moment came when Joel begged the old sniper in the house to put the gun down. Pedro Pascal's face said everything - he just knew he was going to have to kill him and he didn't want to do it. What a horrible life. Again, please kill me before I have to be that person. The hoard coming out of the ground was well done, but I think I'm immune to that type of stuff after years of Walking Dead. Oh great, a hoard of zombies fungus clickers and a bloater....sure,whatever.......I'm just glad Kathleen came and went in such short order - she was a terrible leader and they all followed her to their peril. Fitting end, now on to the next group of which I assume we'll meet for two episodes before they're dispatched - uh oh, one is Joel's brother.......
  19. I appreciate this perspective, and normally I don't mind differences between books and movies/shows if they are true to the source material to some degree. I will say it bugs me more if I read the books first (like in this instance) more than the other way around. For some reason, it's easier to replace a tv show character with what I see in my mind by reading after the viewing but it's harder when I created a version in my head first. And here it's even more muddled - there are the real life people, the book characters and then the various shows. Siegfried, Helen and Mrs. Hall have all had significant backstory changes this go around that are hard to ignore and become something of a distraction as I am watching. I do like all of them on this show, including this version of Mrs. Hall, but I feel like the last couple of seasons her character has become a little formulaic. I am glad she was given more to do this episode than flit around Skeldale alternately chastising/encouraging Siegfried and Tristan.
  20. Thank you! That took me right out of the show. No idea it was that old because it does seem to be a very modern era phrase. I liked this episode with Mrs. Hall, but this show is getting farther and farther from the books with this character. I can't decide if I like that or not. It was good to see her doing something other than solving "the boys" problems for once.....I do feel like her role in the house has been reduced to a formulaic "Audrey sorts it out" type of plot between Siegfried and Tristan and this was different, albeit in a very sad way.
  21. I don't see anything even remotely romantic in the interactions between Joel and Ellie. In fact, I was thinking that some of how Joel talks to Ellie reminds me of how Din speaks to Grogru. My heart did break a little for her when Joel referred to Tess as family but Ellie as cargo. You could see it hurt her. Not cool Joel! I have seen articles on social media where people are disappointed at the lack of violence in this show, but for me, it comes as a welcome relief. There are ten thousand other shows people can watch if they need to see abundant carnage. I like that this one is spending as much time making quality characters as it is on prosthetic monster mayhem. Although much like all of these type of shows, the actual humans left at the end of the world are the biggest threat. Still, Kathleen doesn't seem like your average apocalyptic maniac, so I look forward to seeing where this goes.....
  22. I totally agree with this about Bill. I do wonder if he would ever have had the courage to act on his feelings though if it was not the end of the world. I am glad Frank fell into his pit. ;-p
  23. I was wondering about Bill's backstory - from the show perspective, not the game. This was Bill's first time with a man, and he tells Frank he had been with a woman before. I've been wondering if pre-pandemic, was Bill a closeted gay or was he hetero? He was alone in that village for FOUR YEARS. Like, totally alone. I cannot fathom the crushing loneliness of that. I know he was a loner type before the fungus, but it's one thing to be a loner and completely different to be living like last man on earth. I am a hetero woman, but honestly, if I was isolated like that for that long and a nice woman came along, I don't think I would say no.....
  24. What a beautiful, quiet episode. Not playing the game, I loved it. It's so rare to see someone survive the apocalypse and live "normally" for not just a few months (I'm looking at you Walking Dead), but a lifetime. And that Frank and Bill, two people who would probably never have met in pre-fungus years, found the loves of their life like this was wonderful. Every scene just added to the whole picture so much that by the end it's heartbreaking, and yet, I found it weirdly hopeful at the same time. They survived to old age and died with dignity on their own terms, not from violence from raiders or FEDRA or fungus people. Could Frank have lived longer had this happened in an age where treatment was available for whatever was wrong with him? Maybe, but as someone who has watched a loved one suffer through multiple rounds of chemo and still succumb to fucking cancer, it's hard not to see that this is in some ways a more peaceful way to go. Anyway, lots to think about, so good on them...... This show is doing an amazing job creating fully realized characters in a short time. My favorite moments were when Frank showed Bill the strawberries and their joy over them, and Ellie's amazement of riding in a car for the first time. It's the little things...
  25. Definitely not - when I went to bed last night I had nightmares of that scene with that thing "kissing" Tess - those tendrils moving into her mouth will stay with me a long time unfortunately. RIP to another great Anna Torv character - her time was short but impactful. Her speech to Joel was heartbreaking, and once more, Pedro Pascal makes the most of saying everything while saying nothing, at least here I can see his facial expressions! And kudos to a show for actually showing damage to his hand for beating a man's face in with it - I hate when people fist fight in shows and movies and their hands have no damage. Hair line fracture indeed....... The other thing that grossed me out completely was when that doctor cut into the dead woman's leg. Ewwwww........... OMG you are so right!!!!!! We watched this while we ate dinner because I didn't think I could stomach eating while watching The Last of Us and it was a good call, but dang, I was tearing up while I was trying to eat! This show and the dang horses! I had to watch an episode of UK Ghosts after Last of Us to calm down before bed! ;-p
