  1. I figured that at some point Matt would learn that others had been paid more than he was, but I loved the matter-of-fact way it played out.
  2. Re Tim's Sigourney Weaver line: other than the fact that she's a beautiful woman with long, shapely legs, is there a particular significance to this reference that I'm missing? Like did she use her thighs to kill someone in Alien, which I've never seen?
  3. The motivation isn't making a lot of sense to me yet either, but I'm trusting the writers on this for now. It might have to do with the soil quality in Harlan County, and/or Avery's political muscle in state, which could end up giving him a virtual monopoly on pot cultivation. As long as we keep seeing the kinds of tensions that S6 has given us so far, I won't worry about this aspect too much!
  4. I saw Dana Carvey perform at a small comedy club in the SF Bay area in December, 1982. I remember being so excited when he joined the SNL cast a few years later.
  5. Wikipedia has a pretty nice run-down of the first season here. I did not know this:
  6. Two words: Hunting Trip. If that one doesn't make you laugh, nothing will.
  7. I turned to my husband and said, "Hey, it's the Douche!" (from Parks and Recreation)
  8. That's kind of cool. Guess they are not worried about an actor's choices in early episodes being affected by what they know about later episodes... or maybe they think that knowledge is good? I guess it's not a problem with movies, where actors have read the entire script before shooting starts.
  9. Mary Steenburgen talks about The Trash and the Snake:
  10. At this point, I just hope that I get out of Harlan alive. The tension is killing me!
  11. Urban Dictionary offers some peacock insight, but I think in Harlan it simply means someone who preens (dresses and acts flashy) but lacks any substance.
  12. I'm feeling the same about Mary Steenburgen. She is making Katherine Hale one scary-ass lady. And without Botox.
  13. Caught this last night. Some very funny stuff, including Sean's phone call with and Morning's not-so-subtle hinting around that .
  14. So you want to GET PHYSICAL, do you? ;-) Sorry, that song was a nice enough piece of fluff, but not Record of the Year material, IMO.
  15. I enjoyed Isabella Rossellini showing up as herself at the coffee house. Also, Gary Oldman as Joey's scene partner in the WWI movie. I wish we had seen more of Marlo Thomas as Rachel's mother.
  16. For some reason, I don't trust a lot of what MTM has to say about this series. I've gotten the impression that she embellishes copiously.
  17. Why would it be? It's on SHOWTIME. :-) We all have those nagging irrational desires that go against our professed values. This is Bev's, and it's a hoot!
  18. Finally tracked down a photo of Madonna this morning (I stopped watching the Grammys eons ago). If she was going for geriatric toreador dominatrix, then she really hit the mark with this. Does she really think anyone finds this sexy? Sam Smith's big hit is boring, but Grammy often goes for that, e.g., Olivia Newton-John's 1975 win for the equally boring I Honestly Love You.
  19. Yeah, I wasn't sure how the youngsters are spelling that. ;-)
  20. I think Jake would want the thread title spelled "B99-Styles." :-)
  21. He was good in Friends, too. :-)
  22. I'd like to see how Leslie's mom, Marlene, is dealing with the fact that Leslie's professional success has now eclipsed her own. I mean, this is the woman who once said "I want my daughter to be successful, which is why I always tell her, there's nothing wrong with being a wife and mother."
