Here's an oldie: He & She ran for one sublime season in 1968-69. I was only 12 at the time, and I didn't always get it, but I loved it. It received 5 Emmy nominations, winning one for writing. More recently, Six Degrees didn't even last one season. I think there are unaired episodes lurking somewhere. I would love to see them.

I prefer to think of him as sex on a stick. And Walton Goggins, perhaps even more so. Enjoy season 2!

Yeah, what if she had had a stroke in the bathroom? You always check on your spouse before driving off! Yeah, Debra was cutting it close, and Ray would have been justified in getting pissed off once he knew the reason for her lateness, but he didn't bother to find out before taking off in a snit, and that was a big no-no, in my book. (and in Frank's, too!)

I don't recall the Robillards needing money. In the book, Ellen was in love with her first cousin, Philippe, and when the family objected to their union, he went off somewhere and ended up being killed in barroom brawl. Ellen blamed her family for his death and married Gerald O'Hara partly out of spite, and partly to put distance between herself (moving to inland northern Georgia) and her family (in coastal Savannah). Valerie Harper was rushed to the hospital during a performance of a play in Maine last evening. Not clear yet how serious her condition is.

TCM is running the AFI tribute to Steve Martin again tomorrow, July 30. From an email I received this morning:

Both TV critics for the NY Times are predicting Jon Hamm will win the Best Actor category this year, and one of them even thinks he deserves it. That kind of talk makes me nervous.

Theodore Bikel has passed away at the age of 91. He originated the role of Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music on Broadway, and also played Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof more than 2,200 times. He was nominated for both Tony and Oscar awards. I remember Bikel's AitF appearance. He played a butcher who fell in love with Edith Bunker, and later married a woman who was her spitting image (also played by Jean Stapleton, of course).

Plus, the finale is twice the usual length. :-)

A lot of them are unnecessary, too. Sometimes writers overuse the freedom of HBO, Netflix, etc.

Apparently Horgan and Delaney "met" each other through Twitter and decided to write something together. This show is the result.

I remember Coe from Hill Street Blues, where he played a city council member running for mayor for a few episodes some 30+ years ago. I also remember his character firing Dustin Hoffman in Kramer v. Kramer. He had an extensive list of credits, but I'd forgotten about SNL until reading his obituary.

There is a "named" episode, but I don't think it is "submitted" in the sense of the actor having to supply a tape to ATAS. But correct me if I'm wrong! As you note, the point is that voters don't have to have watched ANYTHING before voting on nominations.

Amy Schumer is a grown woman with talent and business savvy. Her 12 Angry Men parody alone is award-worthy, IMO.

There are no "submitted episodes" in the nomination phase. People really are going off of memory and name recognition at that stage. It is only when voting for the winners that voters must attest that they have watched the episode submitted by each nominee. This is why it has traditionally been hard for strong actors on lesser-watched shows to break through.

I have to wonder if any of the voters actually watched it. Eek. Also very glad for Andre Braugher, thought disappointed that B99 didn't rate a nomination as Best Comedy -- it's my favorite show in that category, and one of the few things I watch on non-cable TV. I love Tina Fey, but agree with your assessment of her performance in Kimmy Schmidt.
