  1. I thought it was very much in keeping with Samberg's digital shorts on SNL, which often featured him singing. I remember when Samberg and Bill Haider were introduced as featured players on SNL at the start of the 2005 - 2006 season. I thought, "Great, two more white-bread frat boys, just what the show needs." I almost couldn't tell them apart. Boy, did they prove me wrong!
  2. Having voted since 1976, I'm not confused. ;-) I was comparing the fictional world in which a fictional character ran for president on a fictional timeline to actual political conditions in the actual world at that actual time. :-)
  3. I'm currently watching the final season. Arnold Vinick seems like a liberal fantasy of a Republican presidential candidate. I don't think there is any way a candidate like that could have gotten the Republican nomination in 2006. The pledge to appoint "pro-life" judges to the Supreme Court is a litmus test that would have come during the nomination process, not afterwards. Still, it's fun to watch.
  4. Unless he gets a TV show on ABC, NBC, or CBS, his turn won't come again for a while. The network that airs the Emmy broadcast gets to choose the host and typically chooses someone with a program that airs on that network. Jane Lynch was the most recent host on Fox, in 2011.
  5. Jean Ralphio may be the woooorst, but his name is the best! I want to know what writer came up with it.
  6. I doubt it has ever happened but I don't know for sure. Andy Samberg made a joke about this in his monologue. Ed Asner won for playing Lou Grant in two different categories (Drama and Comedy), albeit on two different shows.
  7. Tidbits from the NY TImes obit: He had a romantic relationship with dreamy actor Montgomery Cliff. He started writing plays in high school. He dropped out of HS, convinced that his bowling talent would lead to a professional sports career. After his agent told him Superman had no sponsor and was unlikely to see the light of day, he agreed to film 26 episodes. His partner of 35 years, actor/writer/director James Bridges, was Oscar-nominated for writing The China Syndrome and The Paper Chase. He swore off fan events after a 1988 incident in Cincinnati in which Sharpie-wielding autograph seekers permanently stained a white linen suit he had had made in Italy. His house in Brentwood was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Any you thought he was just Jimmy Olsen. ;-)
  8. It's also in keeping with the role she played. Olive made her own dress for her son's wedding, for goodness sakes, out of floral fabric that would have been better suited to country drapes. ;-)
  9. Yes, congrats to Andy for a very fine and funny hosting job. And man, was he ever rockin' that tux. Hot damn! ;-)
  10. Not if you get a bood look at her hands. It's always so jarring to me when I see a smoothed-over face with clearly 70-year-old hands.
  11. The Case Against Jed Bartlet I agree with a lot of this starting with: Let the debating begin!
  12. Eh, to me, obnoxious behavior is obnoxious regardless of how thick the veneer of "charm" is. I think Bartlett "got away with" too much behavior that would not be tolerated in someone we did not find "charming" or politically acceptable. George Bush probably thought he was being "charming" when he rubbed Angela Merkel's shoulders, too.
  13. Great dancing, yes, but both "Birdie" and "Hugo" seem to have some pitch problems with their singing. Ouch! Glad I finally stumbled across this thread. I'm learning so much!
  14. Thanks! Need to check my DVR settings to catch the new season!
  15. Have a "meeting Stephen" story you'd like to share? Here's just the thread for it! My encounter happened in 2003, at a book-signing after Stephen, Amy Sedaris, and Paul Dinello performed Wigfield. I was happy to meet Amy and Paul, but thrilled to speak with Stephen. I asked if he would sign my book "Ta-da!" but he didn't quite hear me and asked "To Da?" I replied, "No, Ta-Da! As in The Ta-Da! Ballot." He laughed and graciously complied, then shook my hand, which I didn't wash until the next day. ;-)
  16. Ugh. MM was on-screen for 2 minutes of The Americans and, IMO, didn't do anything particularly special. I love her, too, but there's a strong case to be made that she won on name recognition.
  17. Hmmm, good question. The award went to Norman Howell, but he is listed as the stunt coordinator for many B99 episodes. Howell was nominated last year, too. After doing a little more research, I wonder if the stunt category does not require submission of a specific episode. In this list of winners, there is an episode listed for "Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Supporting Role," won by American Horror Story: Freak Show for the episode, Edward Mordrake, Part 2. But no episode is listed for Howell's win in the Stunts category, a few entries below that.
  18. Just when I thought I couldn't love Terry Crews more, I come upon this interview from March 6, 2015.
  19. From the case for watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Ha-ha! My husband and I actually did watch that episode again last night, as part of our run-up to the new season. Jake, Terry, and Santiago in Holt's bathroom with the dog never gets old! Note: writer Allyson Johnson needs some remedial help with proper use of apostrophes, but otherwise, this is a pretty nice piece.
  20. The winners of the "Creative Arts" Emmy awards (including actors who made guest appearances on shows) were announced on Saturday. Full list of nominees and winners here.
  21. Berger had a family? Are you confusing him with the Justin Theroux character whose parents were Valerie Harper and David McCallum?
  22. Ha-ha! Alas. I did not have any ex-streetwalker, fledgling designer friends that I met in jail.
  23. I didn't dress that differently from her in my 20s! I thought she looked classy. Different strokes. ;-)
  24. Variety is reporting that Martin Milner, of Adam-12, has passed away. He was 83.
