  1. Didn't everyone who responded to Kim's post? If you really want privacy and to be left alone, why not turn off the commenting capability altogether? I gather that Instagram has this feature (I'm not a user myself), as per wikipedia:
  2. So much for graciousness. Either one of them could have taken this private -- and "she did it first" doesn't fly with me.
  3. Looks like Kim has thanked her "fans, friends, and #SexandtheCity colleagues for the outpouring of support... over the past 72 hours." She sounds gracious.
  4. It was indeed nice to see Matthew Rhys in The Post -- though the number of familiar faces in that movie almost got distracting!
  5. The Chicago Public Library has posted a blog entry with 12 photos of John Mahoney's early stage work in Chicago. You can see some young versions of Terry Kinney, Kevin Anderson, John Malkovich, Tom Irwin, Joan Allen, Laurie Metcalf, and others (I think Gary Sinise is in one but am not sure).
  6. And what's wrong with that, exactly? Kim posted the news publicly using social media. If SJP and CN hadn't replied, there would be people criticizing them for that, too, I imagine. It's almost like some people look for excuses to be negative. ;-)
  7. Another take on John Mahoney by his "adopted home town" paper in Oak Park, IL.
  8. If you're not familiar with how John Mahoney got into acting (he was 40 at the time of his first professional acting job), this piece by Chicago Tribune drama critic Chris Jones does a nice job of explaining. I remember Mahoney talking about a lot of the stuff Jones mentions when he did that Q&A at Steppenwolf a few years ago. ETA: Be sure to click through the slide show that accompanies the Jones article at the Tribune site. There are many great photos of Mahoney appearing in Chicago theater productions, some with other actors you'll recognize. We're fortunate here in Chicago that people like Tom Irwin, Kevin Anderson, Laurie Metcalf, and others feel such loyalty to local theater!
  9. Having had the pleasure of attending a one-on-one Q&A session he did after a performance of The Herd at Steppenwolf two years ago (as well as seeing him accept a local award on behalf of his In Treatment co-star, Gabriel Byrne, a few years before that), I'm pretty darned sure Mahoney would have been fun to sit with anywhere. A genuinely nice soul.
  10. I can't access Twitter at work. What sad thing did Leslie say?
  11. I've watched it several times now, and enjoyed it more with each viewing. Ferrell hasn't lost a step as Dubya, and he pulled off some sharp barbs. And "No Cake for Gays" Pence is probably how he'd view the guy -- can't make Dubya TOO astute, you know. ;-)
  12. Yes, this happens in Ep. 7-6, The Strategy, which is after the weird menage-a-trois back in LA in Ep. 7-5, The Runaways. (I recently rewatched S7 for the first time since it aired.) Don and Megan have this idyllic play-acting weekend in NY, but at the end of it, Megan is scouring the closet for a fondue pot to take back to LA, and talking about meeting Don somewhere other than NY or LA "next time." As the Slant review put it:
  13. Tracy Morgan showed up briefly on SNL this past week, with Will Ferrell hosting.
  14. It bugs the shit out of me that Swank has two Lead Actress Oscars. She won for two "flashy" roles in weak years, IMO -- and I don't think she was even that good in M$B, which is a movie I loathed. I would have given the Oscar that year to Kate Winslet for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. For that matter, I could picture Kate Winslet doing a better job than Swank in M$B, but could you see Swank in Winslet's place in ESotSM? No way. She was good, but I sometimes felt I was seeing McDormand on-screen rather than the character. When I saw The Post last week, I always felt I was seeing Kay Graham rather than Meryl Streep. YMMV.
  15. I'm on that train, too. Exactly. She did it well, but I didn't laugh. at. all. Ferrell's cold open as Dubya was brilliant. No economer. Supreme Court, like Americans. I call this one "Doggy Goes into Space." Shoe me twice, I'm keeping the shoes. So good. BTW, for those of you who don't remember the "shoe me twice" reference, here's a primer courtesy of The Daily Show in 2002. (Good lord, I can't believe that was almost 16 years ago.)
  16. My husband participated in a baseball fantasy camp this past week (I tagged along for part), and Joe Pepitone was one of the former MLB players in attendance. I remember Kramer mentioning Pepitone during his spiel about Central Park when he was giving the carriage rides, but I'd forgotten that Pepitone is mentioned in several other episodes as summarized here. I love this one:
  17. Probably because the writers didn't know in Season 1 that the show would last to Season 4. ;-)
  18. By definition a sitcom has to come up with situations for comedy to ensue. The situations may be grounded in reality, but they aren't necessarily consistent from season to season or even episode to episode. Especially when a show runs as long as ELR did. I love that , too!
  19. Not a follower of country or Southern rock, but I don't get why this guy is SNL-worthy. That first song was just the same guitar riff over and over and over with some shouted lyrics. Meh.
  20. One of the motivators for Lou Avery's comic strip Scout's Honor in S7 of Mad Men!
  21. This was a bigger irritant for me, so I love your comment!
  22. I haven't seen The Post yet, though I'm dying to, but a number of reviewers have singled out Streep's performance as elevating the film.
