Buying books or borrowing from the library? Which do you prefer?
Tom Holmberg replied to RealHousewife's topic in Books
Fiction I'd rather borrow from a library because I'll read it only once. Some nonfiction I'd buy because I would want to refer to it again. -
I was looking for it yesterday, but it wasn't out yet. IMDB has its TCM Remembers predictions. A lot of big names died last year, it might need to be extra long.

Retro TV Channels: ”The Good Old Days of Television”

Batman started off as a superhit but sort of ran out of steam. The writing wasn't very good and they pretty much ended up repeating themselves over and over. -
Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

I guess because at one time there was a whole thing about no one being a native-born Californian (although there actually were native-born Californians). -
Say What?: Commercials That Made Us Scratch Our Heads

I guess because then they wouldn't have a commercial. 😉 -
I think in the past they did show the Alastair Sim version. This year I found that it will be running on FXM. So it looks like a double feature of "A Christmas Carol" on FXM and "A Christmas Story" on TBS.
-
Of my 4 annual Christmas movies ("Die Hard," "Scrooged," Alastair Sim's "A Christmas Carol," and "A Christmas Story") none appear to show up on TCM, not even "A Christmas Carol," though the Reginald Owen "A Christmas Carol" is going to play again before Christmas.

S05.E01: One Bad Night and Chaos of Selfish Desires
Tom Holmberg replied to DanaK's topic in Young Sheldon
Let Bobbi beat up Sheldon and said he should "grow a pair." And sprayed Mary in the face with shoe deodorant. -
I have to wonder if younger moviegoers have any attachment to "West Side Story" and if they really want to see it.

Don't have a good plane story, but do have a good El train story. I was on the El when the train stopped at a El stop, the door opened and a large German Shepherd got on the car by itself. It stalked up and down the aisle and finally lay down against one of the doors. In those days the door opened inward, so when the train stopped at the next station the startled dog jumped up and leapt out the door just as two old ladies were entering the same door. They screamed and started running down the platform with the dog (playfully) chasing them and trying to jump up on them. The conductor shut the door and the train left the station with the ladies fleeing down the platform with the dog in pursuit.

Agreed about smoking sections on planes (or anywhere else for that matter). The university I went to was one of those modern buildings with no windows that opened, in the classrooms you could barely see the prof. for the thick cloud of cigarette smoke. (In the lounges in the student union it was an entirely different kind of smoke.)

I can recall flying in the 1960s when you were treated like royalty, today its like being in steerage on the Titanic.

I have that on reserve at the library. I'm also looking forward to the forthcoming biography of 1960s "Mr Cool", James Coburn, by his daughter-in-law, "Dervish Dust: The Life and Words of James Coburn." ISBN 9781640124059 (Hopefully there's some interesting stuff about the movie "The President's Analyst.")

It's not like the airline's going to feed you. I always think its funny to watch old shows where they make fun of airline food (which wasn't that bad), when today you barely get drinks.

On Sun. Dec 12, the "Alfred Hitchcock" show on METV showed the episode "The Jar", from a story by Ray Bradbury, and with a great cast including Billy Barty, George Lindsey, Pat Battram, Slim Pickens, and many more. I remember being creeped out by this episode as a kid. When I was young I used to do a haunted house around Halloween and charge neighborhood kids 5 or 10 cents to go through it (until the other kids mothers made my parents stop it because I was scaring the bejeebers out of their kids). The last year I made a "Jar" to include in the haunted house. -
S05.E09: The Yips and an Oddly Hypnotic Bohemian
Tom Holmberg replied to Bort's topic in Young Sheldon
Yep. Also cliched writing on the part of the writers. I'm glad they finally actually gave Missy some time on the show rather than her usual two lines. -
I called mine Mater and Pater, which they hated. 😈

My mother would start dialing and we would start crying and swear to be good (which, at least I, never did).

When I was little I usually got a threat from my mother to call Santa and tell him how naughty I was.

S05.E08: The Grand Chancellor and a Den of Sin

I just hope there's a payoff, otherwise it's more of the shift towards the "Old Meemaw" show. -
Would be more appropriate as a mini-series.

She did a good job. But that Gary Coleman thing.... She even had his facial expressions. I was waiting for "Whatchu talkin' about, Mrs. Hannigan?"
-
I couldn't get over that Annie looked like Gary Coleman in drag.

I thought the original taste of Tab was closer to Dr Pepper than Coke. Do you dislike Dr. Pepper?
