  1. I also have to wonder, if the show runs long enough, if they'll have an episode where Sheldon's testes descend (which he said occurred when he was 15), considering they had a Missy episode where she gets her period and now where she gets body hair. Just to be fair.
  2. "Adam Ruins Everything" did a segment on this, which leads me to suspect its still a thing. Younger girls might want to conform to what their peers are doing. Older young women might go their own way on the issue.
  3. Then again he's hanging out with 20 year olds who act more like 12 year olds.
  4. I noticed that TCM is running Robert Downey's rarely seen "Putney Swope" Sat Jan. 29, 1 am (CT).
  5. Latest memoir announced: "Waxing On: The Karate Kid and Me" by Ralph Macchio, due out Oct. 2022. ISBN: 9780593185834 Since The Karate Kid first crane-kicked its way into the pop culture stratosphere in June 1984, there hasn’t been a week Ralph Macchio hasn’t heard friendly shouts of “Wax on, wax off” or “Sweep the leg!” Now, with Macchio reprising his role as Daniel LaRusso in the #1 ranked Netflix show Cobra Kai, he is finally ready to look back at this classic movie and give the fans something they’ve long craved. The book will be Ralph Macchio’s celebratory reflection on the legacy of The Karate Kid in film, pop culture, and his own life. It will be a comprehensive look at a film that shaped him as much as it influenced the world. Macchio will share an insider's perspective of the untold story behind his starring role—the innocence of the early days, the audition process, and the filmmaking experience--as well as take readers through the birth of some of the film’s most iconic moments. Ultimately, the book centers on the film itself, focusing on the reason that the characters and themes have endured in such a powerful way and how these personal experiences have impacted Macchio's life. It will bring readers back to the day they met Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi for the first time, but will also provide a fascinating lens into how our pasts shape all of us and how the past can come back to enrich one's life in surprising and wonderful ways.
  6. I always wonder if you could use it for spray painting for hobby projects. Cheaper and more compact than a real spray paint compressor.
  7. I was glad they finally had an episode this season where Missy got a plot line. I guess we can expect that not to happen again for a while. They seem to have dropped the casino, though that, I'm sure, will be back.
  8. In 1870 George Francis Train received a lot of newspaper publicity when traveled around the world in 80 days (though he spent considerable time in Paris during the Commune, traveling time was 80 days). Verne's book came out in 1872. https://www.wingnet.org/rtw/RTW001O.HTM Book about Train https://www.amazon.com/Around-World-Citizen-Train-Sensational/dp/1903582113 BTW, the Concorde flew around the world in approx. 31 1/2 hours.

  10. Speaking of non-US shows, here's a list of the best UK sitcoms. Unfortunately it leaves off many, including two of my favorites, "The Young Ones" and "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin." https://screenrant.com/best-british-sitcoms-of-all-time/
  11. I wouldn't say its "thin." Verne was more interested in an exciting story than character development in any of his books. As I mentioned before I think his Fogg is a French stereotype of a cold, unemotional Englishman.
  12. I haven't seen it mentioned, but Michael Palin did a mini-series where he actually went around the world in 80 days (without using air travel). It's worth watching.
  13. I liked last week's episode better as the plot involved actually going around the world in that one, not staying in one place.
  14. Suttee is probably too politically incorrect. I don't believe Estella was mentioned in the book.
  15. Hopefully he's better at sex than he was as a quarterback for the Chicago Bears.
  16. RIP, Yvette Mimieux https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yvette_Mimieux
  17. All the younger girls back then loved Ilya, I assume their mothers loved Napoleon.
  18. In the book the dismantling and burning the train takes place at this point, so that's out. I'm guessing at least one gunfight, a meeting with Native Americans, and some outlaws. As for historical figures, maybe a meeting with Emperor Norton in San Francisco, Wild Bill Hickok, Custer, Sitting Bull...?
  19. I don't think any of his shows are available on the retro stations, but Bill Jackson. creator of "BJ and Dirty Dragon Show" and "Gigglesnort Hotel" fame (local Chicago kids shows) has passed away. https://chicago.suntimes.com/obituaries/2022/1/18/22890200/bill-jackson-childrens-television-blob-dirty-dragon-bj-chicago
  20. I think the fact that this was one of the earliest movies with nudity probably accounts for its popularity at the time, but I can see the audiences at the time going "When will they shut up and take off their clothes?!" Roger Ebert said, "Two hours of this movie will drive thoughts of sex out of your mind..."
  21. He was in the movie, but still its an odd choice. I'm sure some people wouldn't be happy with the association. BTW, "I am Curious (Yellow)" isn't really that sexy of a movie. There's nudity, which was new at the time it was released, and the actress looked much younger than her supposed 20 years, but you have to sit through a lot of talking between the sex parts.
  22. I liked that they had her as a character, maybe some people might search out more info on her. She had a very interesting life and was the model for all those women in popular culture who ran off with Arab sheiks (from "The Sheik" to "The Wind and the Lion") I wonder if they are going to have actual historical characters in every episode?
  23. Sort of like Sally Draper's ("Mad Men") crush on Ilya Kuryakin (except without the touching).
