  1. Going to chime in on the Wal-Mart discussion over in the Small Talk/Prayer Closet topic. Hope Jill has gotten through the worst of the morning (ha, if only!) sickness. (And by if only I mean if only it were just the morning!)
  2. I love the name Lydia! People think they can say and do whatever they want when women are pregnant. I don't understand why, but they can't seem to help themselves.
  3. Strangely, both of my kids have A names, my brother named his kids with S names and my cousin named his 2 with M names. And it was all unplanned, we just chose names that we liked. It will be interesting to see what my cousin and his wife name their third (surprise!) child in February. I will say I was peeved when family members commented not so nicely on my kids names. Andrew and Abigail are supposedly not good names, who knew?
  4. Please, folks, let's get back to Duggars in the Media.
  5. I think Glory put up the lights to avoid her FIL. Because, while there are more frustrating things than putting up lights, it would be pretty hellish to do it with someone that annoys you and you have to stay patient. Mr. Toast gets all angry and yell-y putting up lights that I've stopped helping him. This year, I don't even want him to do it because it is just not worth it. So, guess I should go vote :)
  6. Ew. Why are junk food places so intent on ruining their perfectly guilty pleasure junk food?
  7. Here's a thought, Sabine, don't join an underground rebel group if you don't like secrets. Rule 1 of espionage and other subterfuge is people only have part of the information so if they are caught, they can't reveal the entire plan. And another, not so gentle suggestion, don't get pissy about it when you're in danger. And I know this is for a younger demographic, but the zaniness with Ezra, Chopper and Zeb is getting really tiresome. And Chopper is not funny or cute or anything, he's just annoying. It's only a few episodes in, and I'm hoping it gets better. But it's rather tiresome.
  8. Before it gets too far off topic, let's keep talking about Josh and Anna, please.
  9. Christmas just got difficult because of the whole work thing. We're thinking of still hosting a Christmas Eve dinner but it will start later because I'll be working. Christmas looks to be nice and quiet--just the family in pjs all day. Probably. We'll see.
  10. I think it was referring more to the mood of Empire--they didn't win at the end, they barely escaped. It was actually gloomy and somewhat depressing. Also, there's the idea of finding out about a parent and Luke's not so successful journey into being a Jedi could also describe Hiccup not doing such a great job at it either. It's tenuous, but I can sort of see it. If I squint my eye and tilt my head. Honestly, I was pretty impressed that they were brave enough to do something like that for something that was ostensibly happy go lucky. With that being said, my kids (8 and 11 at the time) were totally cool with it, which surprised me. But I can definitely see how that would turn people off from the movie because it was quite a sharp turn and completely changed the movie and franchise.
  11. If you talk about Josh and Anna and not each other then you can't make personal comments to one another. Remember, it's ok to snark about the show; Josh and Anna in here, specifically. It's not ok to admonish, criticize or snark your fellow posters.
  12. Thinking about how it's suggested to put an apple in with brown sugar to soften it, maybe put the mangoes in some brown sugar?
  13. Kitty Winter (from canon) was, to put it nicely, a guttersnipe. Probably a prostitute. She had been used by Baron Gruner and gave Holmes valuable information regarding Gruner which he used. Sadly, she gave in to her desire for revenge and threw acid in Gruner's face asHolmes was making off with the important black book and Watson was posing as a Chinese pottery expert. Watson tended to the man's melting face until help arrived. I always think it's The Illustrious Client, but then I go and check and it's wrong. So, seeing this Kitty somewhat unstable matches what she was in the original. She didn't hang around all that long, but then again there was more Lestrade than Gregson, too. The Five Orange Pips was about the Klu Klux Klan. They would send a decreasing amounts of orange pips and then kill the person. Holmes' client had started receiving them and told the story how his uncle had also received them and died. The client was killed walking back to his hotel in the London fog. I believe the perpetrators died in a shipwreck not long after though Holmes was depressed about not saving his client. So, it was similar in something was sent in the mail as a warning, but that's about it. I was just glad to see that Joan handled the situation with patience and maturity. The drama came not from Joan reacting to Kitty's issues, but rather Kitty's issues. I'm willing to see how it plays out. Initially I liked Mycroft, too. And then the character soured on me. But I'll give them credit for not transforming Joan into a shrill harpy about it and rather see her gradually accept Holmes back because she finds as much joy in working with Holmes as he does working with her.
  14. That was no man Ezra met, but that's the first episode I enjoyed. I appreciate the implication that even though the Jedi are supposedly wiped out, they're still on the lookout for at the very least Force-sensitive young people to round up. Which leads me to wonder what happened to all the clones? Is there some backstory I'm missing. Because the lack of discipline with the cadets was glaring. Still not feeling Jedi Kanaan or whatever his name is.There's just something that I don't connect with.
  15. I know this started out because one of the Bates' perhaps suffered a miscarriage, but discussion has veered into only talking religion and reproduction. You can take it to Gimme That Old Time Religion or even Small Talk when it's about your own experience. Thank you.
  16. It's my understanding that beans have to soak overnight, throw out that water and then simmer for some hours. So, no 7 hours is not enough.
  17. What's even better about those Kraft commercials, I can understand them while fast forwarding the recording. Even then, I saw the grandpa one, laughed and rewound to watch it.
  18. I liked the twist of Moran's air gun (even if it was Moran). The Empty House, Holmes's return in the books, also featured a closed room mystery with interesting bullets and a weird gun. So, I enjoyed this adaption. And if Kitty is loosely based off Kitty Winter, most definitely petty criminal, though keep her away from the acid. She threw vitriol at Gruner's face in front of Holmes and Watson. I got the feeling it wasn't just the note that Joan was pissed about, it was a slow burn last season of Sherlock and Joan figuring out each other's boundaries. Especially the last half of the season. I think this is just the culmination. And I got the feeling that Joan was working towards warming back up to him. I can't imagine that they'll keep up the distance forever, but I can see Joan saying she needs her apartment and her own work to feel as if she's accomplishing something other than being a sounding board. Sherlock knows she wasn't but I can see how she would feel that way. Also, in the stories, Watson did continue to practice medicine, so can see Joan being pulled into one of Sherlock's while she's working a completely unrelated case, and I'd be fine with that. As much as I love their friendship, I was pleased to see that they can succeed and grow without each other. They are still Joan and Sherlock, and the one may be better with the other, but their well being and happiness is not solely dependent on one another. I appreciate that. But now I want to see them friends again.
  19. Wow! I'm going to take inspiration and start getting up early and exerising! I was going to wear a witch's hat to work, but I forgot it at home despite putting it right next to my purse so I wouldn't. I am wearing a Halloween shirt because it's a pretty casual environment here.
  20. I just moved some posts to Things About the Duggars That Annoy etc and the Small Talk topic. If you wish to continue that conversation, do so there. According to the pinned official post, I could have just deleted. I do understand how the conversation moves. At that point, you can say something like, "Taking to such and such topic"
