  1. It seems after every Marvel movie I see I marvel (I'm not sorry for that pun) at what a fabulous job they've done casting. And a lot of it is they trust in the draw of the character rather than relying on names to draw an audience. So the actors can act. But a lot of it is that so many of the actors have such charisma it just draws you in. What's even more fascinating, as these movies have gotten more and more popular, is how other actors are being utilized, like Glenn Close and John C. Reilly. It almost gives a feeling of Marvel has created this fun playground for actors to play in.
  2. Just a heads up that I changed the title a little to match the rest of the forum, I hope.. I can change it to something more clever with some suggestions? Otherwise, continue on with the casinos and the world of Dominion.
  3. Ask, or hint, and ye shall receive. Especially since local commercials can be so terrifically awful.
  4. I've been laughing at the Gamora Kevin Bacon line randomly all day. That and: Who put the sticks up their butts? Isn't that cruel? I'm surprised I didn't sob at the We are Groot. And then we see Quill's mother a few minutes later. Good lord, the water works!
  5. My kids aren't allergic, but I don't send them with PB&J just because it's something small I can do to make it a little better for those that are allergic. Instead they get Nutella sandwiches, but only Fridays. It's creamy for me, but crunchy doesn't bother me. I had PB, honey and raisins as a kid, and I still do it today on toast. Yum!
  6. @Glory, infinitely rewatchable--definitely. I would have stayed in my seat and watched it again from the beginning if I could have. SB's birthday is coming up (Labor Day this year, actually) and we were going to steer him to seeing Ghostbusters with his friends and instead we might have a party the weekend earlier and see Guardians again. Thus far mod duties are pretty easy--I still have to test the "housecleaning" waters as it were--editing topic titles, starting an episode topic, merging duplicate threads etc. I also haven't swung the hammer yet, but it's pretty chill where I've been poking around. We have lovely guides who have been wonderful, too.
  7. My 8 year old daughter asked me about that and I told her, "Never mind." In about 8 years, she'll get it.
  8. You're on the list @King of Birds. I floved Guardians of the Galaxy. Normally the trailers show the best parts--not in the is instance. Looking forward to seeing it again hopefully as part of SB's birthday. And then Ghostbusters Labor Day Weekend. It's been an excellent summer for movies this year: Winter Soldier, Days of Future Past and Guardians of the Galaxy. I feel spoiled.
  9. I never thought wearing make-up to a Marvel movie would be lead to mascara tracks, but dang, right away. For a movie that was fun and funny and frenetic, it hit a lot of emotional beats as well. What a ride. The best bit for me was when they crashed, and they thought Ronin was killed and I think Quill said, "We did it." An audience member very loudly said, 'Nuh-uh." And the whole theater laughed. Enjoyed the hell out of that movie. So quotable. We are like Kevin Bacon will crack me up from now on. And by being funny, when Quill says we're all losers and then shift the tone, how life takes more than it gives and there is so much loss, that was pretty powerful. And damn, We are Groot. Excuse me. I need to find a tissue. Coming from a movie that had me rolling with laughter? Thank you, thank you, thank you. It's amazing that theu create these worlds that I want to know more about Ronin and Nebula--it did feel like we met them in the middle and didn't get a full understanding, but I can't imagine cutting anything or putting anything more in. There are all these stories and we're only getting a few of them, and they are part of this other woven tapestry that we only see a few bits of the threads and I want to see more. Also, all of the ships were so cool. Loved the Nova ships and the sorta-Tholian web idea. Loved Quill's ship. Ronin's ship was cool too. And the moment of quiet with the fireflies almost seemed out of place until I realized how right it felt to take a quiet moment and be full of wonder again. Well done, everyone (actors, writers, music, costumes, set, design). It was why I love going to the movies.
  10. There was BIlly Joel channel on XM radio in May and we got our daughter hooked. I can take both. I find that amaretto is better in Pepsi, though. Also, the diet does make you hungry after you eat it, so I've really cut down on my soda/cola drinking.
  11. I saw this about the interactive Marvel display attraction and it made me smile. Nothing newsworthy so much as cute.
  12. I just finished rewatching all the episodes and was just thinking, I should watch the pilot again. Just because. So, I will. And maybe even scare my 11 year old.
  13. Anti-matter in CT cracks me up. Also, Florida. Hee hee.
  14. I have to say, rewatching this episode, knowing how the season ends really changes it. Also, Katrina is shifty. There's just something I can't put my finger on. And even if it would make her a more interesting character, I don't want Crane to have to deal with that crap, too. Gah, the angst would be too much, they've already got enough crap to deal with such as the freaking Apocalypse. But she's just so jarring and weird and I still don't like her. Between Headless and this Golem, the actors bring so much life and emotion to something without facial expressions. It's amazing that I actually felt sorry for that Golem; the scene with it and Crane was so moving. Very impressive.
  15. I tend to either blank out or roll my eyes or both during Katrina scenes, but I agree @Julia, she's not a great example of a Quaker. Or a person who is supposedly fighting the good fight. If she were supposed to be shady and manipulative, it would work better. Instead, I'm left to wonder why Crane misses her so much.
  16. Watching it again, it really is the very worst time to admit that oh yeah Katrina and I just figured out we love each other and want your blessing. Seriously, Crane? Other than maybe thinking it would get Abraham to stop moping (which, why would that make sense), that was terrible. Not saying he deserves all the hellfire that is actually gunning after him, but still. Crane. Abbie at least had youth and fear as understandable reasons why she didn't stick by her sister. Crane was just asking for trouble. I love John Cho in this episode. The way he makes Andy creepy and sad and pitiable fully rounds out what could have been a very one note character. As much as I hope he manages to salvage his soul and escape his servitude to Moloch, Andy is too weak a person to do it. And Cho plays that so well. On top of that, the gleeful evil is a great thing to watch, too. Too much Andy would be a bad thing, but what we get is terrific. Also, it's a very clever way of showing how evil isn't always mustache twirling, gleeful stomping. Sometimes, evil is just being weak and making bad choices. Which was the idea of the Sin Eater, too. Crane made his dithering a sin by regretting it, but in the end he made the right choice. Sometimes the dithering and the weakness lead in the other direction. It's so easy for anyone to become like Andy. Well, not a servant of Moloch, but allow evil and cruelty to prevail by being weak and doing nothing. I also like Jenny and Irving working together. Seeing the "team" together was satisfying and working their strengths was great. I'm glad they showed Crane failing at the interrogation, it makes him human and not perfect. Even it makes me want to slap him. And I still giggle at the Snowflake and Hessian scene. Whoever likened it to Lassie getting help for Timmy down the well has colored that scene forever.
  17. I'm hitting 40 in February, so I'm not far behind you. My mom is also going through a divorce, though not acrimonious. I also had a Brother Word Processor though my typing was no way good enough to type papers for people. Way I'm not like sacrebleu former known as BeetFarmGirl--I have never been to the US Open. Have a fun! And hope that this cooler weather holds.
  18. I learned typing with Mavis Beacon after graduating college. And no, it does not make sense that I learned how to touch type after I wrote all those college papers, but I never said I made sense. I probably needed to learn keypad, too, and this way I learned touch typing and could indicate what my words per minute were for job applications. I think the writing standard in college was two spaces after a period, and it was reinforced with Mavis Beacon. I was able to unlearn it more easily than I expected. However, I read somewhere that it would make more sense to have the punctuation outside of the quotation marks. It makes complete sense but I haven't been able to adjust to that yet. Some day.
  19. I love this episode. I love Abbie and Ichabod working together, I love how John Cho portrays Andy as uber creepy and yet so pitiable. I will occasionally say to my kids, "Kiddo, you rum beggar". It carried the momentum from The Sin Eater and created some of it's own. And I giggle when Crane is at the museum and gets all huffy. I noticed this time that the minister that is killed at the beginning, during the Midnight Ride, his collar flies off in a different direction than his head. Sleepy Hollow always challenges my squick level. Though after seeing the Desolation of Smaug and the Orcs getting half a dozen arrows through heads and another half a dozen getting decapitated, I'm getting better at it.
  20. For me, this is the episode where things really gained momentum and everything really started to fall into place. Not that everything was revealed, but the idea of a larger picture was made clearer. It cemented the relationship between Abbie and Ichabod, it introduced Henry Parrish, a character I found fascinating. There moments of humor and there are moments of loss. After the pilot, this episode finally seemed like the show was going somewhere. As supernatural as it was, it was also about people, which is what Sleepy Hollow does best, I think.
  21. I took the cutting off of her wings by Stefan to be a rape metaphor. As it should have, it made me supremely uncomfortable as it was an act of violation, betrayal and violence.
