Crossing my fingers! I'm too lazy to go the contacts route and still wear glasses. I got new frames last week, and they were too tight. So I went and had them adjusted and they still feel too tight. But I like that they don't slip off. I'm torn between having them adjusted again or just dealing with it. The problem is that it hurts in the morning like a bruise when I put them on. I guess that answers my question.

The grieving plot was so good that I really didn't care about the mystery plot other than it was showing how affected Sherlock was. Sadly, I don't think Emmy voters understand that procedurals can use the form to really explore issues like addiction and loss. But these writers do and despite the tears, I'm grateful that it's not just the mystery plot of the week.

Because I still love the original stories the best, my favorite Holmes is still Jeremy Brett. I find that JLM has the same warmth, kindness and humor that Brett brought. The one difference is I always felt that Brett and canon!Holmes were supremely confident, even when admitting they were wrong. I find JLM's Holmes confident, but they also allow him to explore a little with uncertainty, which I think has to do with his addiction storyline. For the most part, he strides in, knowing that hurting people's feelings is worth the price. But I appreciate that JLM gives him a little more nuance. After Moriarty and Bell being shot, he has a better understanding of himself, and he's navigating what it means to be a person with faults. And luckily, he's got Joan Watson with him. They're both figuring it out and I'm quite enjoying the journey. I also adore the relationship between Joan and Sherlock. I can completely understand why they are friends--I see the wordless and worded connection they have. And I devoutly hope it will remain a friendship because it is one of the most touching and caring friendships that I've seen. I know some people are tired of the addict storyline, but I find that aligns with canon. Canon!Watson mentions that he weaned Holmes off and was usually on the lookout for times when Holmes might succumb. I think both Joan and canon!Watson are aware of his tendencies and have a good understanding of how to approach him about it. But I find being an addict humanizes Sherlock. In canon, he was at minimum polite, but he was usually kind and empathetic to his clients/the victims. He had sense of justice and fair play that didn't necessarily line up with the law, but was more spirit rather than letter of the law. I appreciate that in JLM's Holmes we see the desire to use his intellect to make the world a little more just and fair. We've really seen it this season, and I really like seeing the idea explored that both Joan and Sherlock want to help people, want to ensure justice.

I'm going to reply about Sherlock in his own topic. I got new eyeglasses yesterday afternoon. Both my kids first response was, "You look like a nerd." Well, duh. Obviously.

Pssst...Boston TWoPpers....check the Con thread. Hey, AMC! Might be nice if you posted times for Saturday so we can purchase tickets for Winter Soldier. Dammit!!! I've been waiting for months for this movie and I cannot wait! I need my tickets. I love reserve seating, but this is driving me crazy.

I may have actually laughed out loud at that. The sound was so weird and choppy last night (for me at least) that I thought it was just a weird edit. But it was too perfect so it must have been intentional. Clever show. The talking heads sounded all stilted and edited--mostly when they weren't showing the heads and were just having the artists talk over what was being done. It sounded off to me. It's so nice to see how much they actually like each other. After seeing an episode of Grimm with an Aswang, Nico's was sadly so far below that. Granted, it didn't have that horrifying clicking that was reminiscent of terrifying Star Trek TNG episode where clicking creatures were experimenting on the crew. The Grimm Aswang also had a long tongue, but it was needle like and stored in the mouth until used to suck up amniotic fluid. Nico's looked like a torture victim rather than something that would suck your blood. And I don't understand how they can put George in the top with those fingers. He shouldn't be allowed to remove them in order to make it. Plus, they were integral to how his vampire functioned. And I like George and want him to get to the finale. Tyler was hindered by the wings, and he knew it, and was trying his best to mitigate it. Rashaad was lucky that his vampire was the most human of them and he could do a simply face and a great paint job. I wish he'd step away from the bright green, though.

I went back and read that whojackie part after I heard the forums would be closing. And I remember thinking, before the shout-out was revealed, that posting about a Murphy bed, that is so off topic and just plain weird. But I didn't do anything because it wasn't a hugely busy thread and it was unlikely it would get sidetracked. A variation of ignore the troll, as it were. And then the reveal was just amazing. And it's still a lovely depiction of internet friends that is hard to find these days.

Since this topic isn't supposed to be about the show, I want to say hi to Monty and just let you know how much I enjoyed those recaps. It's nice to see you here still watching and commenting. And I agree, I never found canon Holmes to be the colossal dick that he's been portrayed in modern incarnations. I can't see how the character would have been as popular if he was an antisocial high functioning sociopath. But comparisons of the various Holmes can probably go in the Sherlock Holmes thread? Or should there be a canon thread?

Well, he feels like he won, so of course he's glad to go home. But man, dude is cold--the guys got him cupcakes for his birthday and he's all, later losers. I'm a winner. Ooookaaay.

Ugh, that sounds a like a terrible. And while it doesn't help when I say we've all been there, that's what the scotch is for. Because that does help. Mostly.

Even though we didn't get to Ms. Hudson, I was pretty glad we got to hear her mentioned, that she hasn't been forgotten. I hope we hear about Randy too soon. And Alfredo. I'm kind of disappointed that we didn't get to see the performance of Let It Go but maybe just imagining is better. It was good to see Sherlock gently approach Joan about her fixation on the surgeon. If anyone understands seeing clues everywhere, it's him. Hopefully part of teaching her will be to accept that people aren't perfect, but it doesn't make them criminal. Just...let it go. (Sorry.)

For someone who says he doesn't do robots, Daran sure sounds like one. Daran earned my dislike when he told Corinne (I think) to hold his glue cup. Ew, that sounds dirty. He wouldn't let her do anything and was kind of a dick to her. Which is sad, because in some ways he reminds me of Jamie from Mythbusters. I really enjoy it when they are enthused about what they're doing. As Rashaad said, it's like being a kid again. I blame Tyler. Is he ever grumpy?

My 11 year old son remarked that it would have been a good thing for Skye to die. An 11 year old, who likes some really questionable things (like Jar Jar Binks, shudder) because he's 11, said that. (Or maybe his mom and dad are finally rubbing off on him? And he'll start hating Jar Jar.) That's not good, though I had to say I agreed with him. I'm sad that a show I thought would be terrible, Star Wars the Clone Wars, has turned out to be a pretty darn good show and Agents of SHIELD, which I thought would be awesome, isn't. Maybe my expectations were too high? I don't know, but sometimes it feels like a chore to get through and it shouldn't. The Marvel movies all have a certain element of fun, a twinkle in their eye, and this show just doesn't. However, it's only the first season, and if I can get through season 1 of Star Trek TNG, I can get through this. AoS season 1 is better than season 1 of TNG, so I have hope.

I don't think there are any Wesen around. And even it there were, they don't bite. Unless you ask. I'm going to bop around a few of the threads. It's so much bigger, I almost miss it being one thread.

Yay, I found it. Unless everyone was trying to get away from me, then you're out of luck. There was no Elementary or Grimm last week and finding out about TWoP just made me super sad. However, my 8 yo daughter had a friend over and hubby and I watched an episode of Sleepy Hollow during dinner (they were eating in a different room--a tent in the basement, in point of fact. How I managed to set up a two person tent in a basement with low ceilings and a new tv is another tale) and we realized that perhaps it was a good thing that we wouldn't have to keep pausing Grimm to make sure we didn't freak her out. Then again, Adalind as Hexenbeist is just at the line of what I find too scary. I am not the bravest person out there. I'm just glad that new episodes are starting up. And as sad as I am about Sebastian, poor little mouse (he had to have been a mouse), I hope we get some more Meisner as recompense.

Smrou, forewarned, I may take you up on that! One of the pet rats died last month and the other is ... not doing well either. Sadly, that's the lifespan of a rat. But she's still a sweetie. Me, too, LiberryLady. Me too. Crostini is 8, but she's a pretty strong reader and I'm really, really tempted to introduce her to it. And someday we'll be able to afford a vacation and I will persuade the family to go to Prince Edward Islan.

I wish I could say that I watch because it's on before Sleepy Hollow, but that's not true because we record both and delay watch. The hair style of the captain (good lord, I can't remember her name, and I'm always the one that knows character's names) makes me wince every time I see her. It's so distracting. And hubby doesn't like Minka Kelly, whatever her character. To be honest, I think I watch for Mackenzie Crook, Dorian and Kennex. The three of them together are just fun scenes that make me smile. And, to a somewhat lesser degree, just Kennex and Dorian. The common thread is Dorian, and I think Ealey is doing a fantastic job. I also appreciate that the technology doesn't seem so farfetched, even if it is a big advertisement for Dodge. But if it were not renewed, I wouldn't miss it all that much.

Even though I know how it ends, sort of like, there was a whole lot of foreboding in Bring Up the Bodies. I enjoyed the heck out of both them, though.

I'm shocked at how much I like Joan Watson. But, she makes sense. Why would Holmes develop a relationship, in canon or any other show, with someone who was dumb. Even in canon, he appreciated smart, capable women. And I just love Joan herself: her wit, her steadiness, her intelligence, her warmth. There are so few excellent women characters In tv/film that it's nice to see one. And she's not a badass in that she can kick your butt or seduce you and kick your butt. She's just a real person, who is smart and reserved and pretty awesome.

The only reason I joined facebook last night is because TWoP was closing down and I wanted to make sure that I would keep in touch with many of the friends I made over there. So, in the two Meet Markets I was active in I posted the link so during the transition I wouldn't lose information. But, hey, it's voluntary, right? And smrou, I love your picture. Makes me all jealous for a kitty. And despite the many dreams hubby and I have been having about dogs, we're going to resist and not get another one for awhile. But it's hard.

Yay, somewhere to talk about Sleepy Hollow and various other stuff. I haven't started to go through withdrawal yet, but am glad that I saved all the episodes on the DVR. Hubby and I spend half the time looking for landmarks like the Tappan Zee bridge in the stock shots and the other half mocking the Spanish moss and other North Carolina stuff.

Well, I made it over, and I found all my lovely friends. Mmmm, do I smell some good junk food? Yum! Even if I'm not a big fan of sweet/salty. Sweet/sour is more my cup of tea. I just started reading some books again, don't know why I didn't this winter, but I couldn't bring myself. I have to figure out how to set up my kindle to borrow books from the library. Since I have to return some books for crostini I'm going to pick up one by Alison Weir about Mary Bolyen. (I think I spelled that wrong, but I whatever) I just finished Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel which I thoroughly enjoyed. I read those on my kindle as they were Mother's Day gifts from last year, but I do find it hurts my wrist a little to hold it. I do like that it's easily transportable. I don't like crostini asking for my kindle to play Minecraft. We saw Muppets Most Wanted yesterday and enjoyed the heck out of it. SB urgently whispering, "Mom, mom, that's Tom Hiddleston with a mustache. It's Tom Hiddleston with a mustache. With a mustache!" has been cracking me all morning.
